    Cinnamon Bun Pancake

Oh Martha. We gotta have a talk girl. What is going on? I stopped by on a Sunday about 11:30ish for a party of 2. We got sat pretty quickly as this place was busyyyy. busyyy worker bees. Everyone was wanting to get a seat at Martha's! I only waited about 20 minutes if that. Not too shabbyyyy ! I started with an iced Spanish latte as I love my Spanish lattes. This is where everything started going downhill. First sip, questionable. Second sip, even more questionable. Mix the coffee with the straw for a minute, another sip, even worse. It tasted like I was drinking the water from a burnt coffee bean with a hint of cinnamon. It was NOT good. I was very sad. I ended up ordering an iced chai latte as a secondary choice.. because how hard is it to mess up a chai? WELP. It was managed to be messed up as well. How?! Martha girl, who was making the drinks this day, cause nuh uh, more training now. The iced chai latte was watery. It did not resemble a chai at all, even the color was weird. I took 2 sips and never finished either drink. I had my counterpart try it-- mind you, I took a sip and gave no reaction to not bias my counterpart. Once they tried it, they were just as astonished to how horrible both drinks were. They ordered the banana bread latte. oh my-lanta. Artificial, sweet, sour banana flavor, he had it switched out for a blended pump shake that was much better-- REALLY sweet, but they loved it. For the breakfast option, I ended up ordering the huevos playa. The hashbrowns were cooked evenly and tender. The sauce/salsa it was sitting in. not it. you're not that guy pal. tasted like pace salsa from a jar or something. that weird salsa taste that makes you aware that it is not home made. I did not like it whatsoever. The sour cream, guac and eggs were the only thing I enjoyed out of this dish. I would not order this again. The cinnamon pancake was the only thing that saved the experience, but even then, $17 for a singular pancake is absolutely insane. Overall, I was extremely, and I mean extremely, disappointed. I wish it lived up to all the social media hype that is around, but my taste buds were extremely unhappy leaving. Service was great, the lady removed the banana bread latte off our bill for not liking it, but I stayed with my 2 awful drinks. I ended up going to a coffee shop to fill my Spanish latte cravings after leaving. Parking is on the street, metered. fills up FAST.

My Saturday breakfast group loves Martha's but weekends are always very crowded. We thought since it was overcast the place wouldn't be busy. WRONG assumption but luckily we got a table after 10 minutes. They were very busy but we had a server we've known for a long time. I had the vegetable omelet and one friend had the Thai scramble. Two people had the abc omelet and the other the white corn scramble. The abc omelet people said that was the most bacon they've ever seen and were very happy. Corn scramble person loved her omelet. Unfortunately the Thai scramble recipe had been changed with added cabbage which made the eggs cold. My omelet was packed with vegetables and was delicious. Service was good considering how busy it was. Still love this place.

Wonderful, quaint spot in HB! Nice patio, good views, great service. Reasonable prices and delicious food for breakfast or lunch! Had a guava mimosa and 1/2 sand (turkey), soup (chicken cilantro) special. Short walk next to beach!

If you're anywhere near the Strand, do yourself a favor and stop by Martha's 22nd Street Grill. This place is a true Hermosa Beach staple -- and yes, it's always packed for a reason. Between the ocean air drifting in and the option for indoor or outdoor seating, it's the perfect spot to soak in a classic California sun while enjoying an incredible meal. The atmosphere feels effortlessly coastal -- relaxed, welcoming, and full of good energy. The staff is genuinely amazing. Even when they're busy (which is almost always), they're attentive to every detail and make you feel taken care of from start to finish. The menu has a huge variety, so whether you're craving something indulgent or protein-packed, they've got you covered. Portions are generous and everything tastes incredibly fresh. The Eggs Manhattan? Poached to absolute perfection -- rich, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. And the Steak and Eggs bowl is tender, hearty, and packed with protein power. You definitely won't leave hungry. Martha's is more than brunch -- it's a Hermosa tradition. Highly recommend!

First time trying Martha's and it was great! We had mimosas and ordered the white corn scramble and stuffed French toast to share and they were both so good! Service was great and fast. I love the ambience, it's right by the beach and they have inside and outside seating. Also plenty of metered street parking!

Had breakfast here with my daughter on a Wednesday morning. We got there at the crack of dawn, so there was plenty of seating available both inside and outside. By the time we left at about 8:30, it was already getting pretty busy, even for a weekday morning. The interior is comfortable and cozy. Lots of good breakfast choices on their menu. We both had omelettes and we substituted toast with one of their Cinnamon Bun pancakes ... which was pure genius! I would order that again and again. The omelettes were nicely made with lots of filling. And the hash browns were properly prepared - crispy on the outside and fluffy (fully cooked) on the inside. I asked for house made salsa and they gave me two - one red and one verde. Both were excellent. That was a nice bonus. Service was friendly and helpful and our food was served to us quickly. It was a great breakfast and I will be back here again soon.

    Chorizo Sweet Potato Hash

Dined on a Tuesday around 1:00 pm. Our server was sweet, but did not check in on us often. We had to track her down to ask for a box after paying the tab. Their menu here is pretty varied, just not a lot of options for someone who is gluten & dairy free. Ended up ordering the chorizo sweet potato hash. It was good, but nothing super special. I was not expecting the chorizo to be hard sausage chunks. I guess I imagined soft ground chorizo. All and in, the food was decent. But service was a miss unfortunately. Would return to give them another chance!

decent brunch spot and conveniently located next the beach. restaurant was very busy on a sunday afternoon but we got seated outdoors within 10 mins. service was attentive and food came out fast. we ordered the: * avocado toast - not sure what i expected, but was pretty plain. * cinnamon bun pancake - pretty tasty! cinnamon flavor really stands out. my friend was full after eating this dish. * stuffed french toast - tasted good. the fruit was fresh. * mimosas - opted for this since they ran out of skinny margarita. it tasted okay, my friend couldn't finish hers. overall, i enjoyed the ambiance. good pick to try at least once.

The Baseline: For a breakfast/brunch cafe the food must be hearty/filling/satisfying for the early morning, there must be a mix of sweet and savory to fulfill that brunch/breakfast need, and service must be a welcoming start of your day experience. Food: Breakfast, brunch, and lunch is the food fare for Martha's and oh... it is delicious and satisfyingly good. My item was the Potato Frittata Skillet and is my favorite of the breakfast skillet/bowl/etc. preparations. Bacon... good... cheese...good...potatoes... good...eggs...good. Seriously it is breakfast Americana to the maximum breakfast brunch output. Also coffee. Standard drip coffee that wasn't burnt or acidic. Warm, robust and great with the table cream I was given. A solid cup of coffee and looking out at the Hermosa Beach and Pacific was an awesome way to see this new year. You also cannot go wrong with the breakfast burrito but I tend to like a beans option with Mexican food items which was not available and is the reason I passed on the Huevos Playa. The Bacon Mushroom Onion Tomato omelette was also pretty filling option as you will find with any of Martha's omelette options. The lighter side is the Kale Caesar salad which was a vibrant array of greens that paired well with grilled chicken (which was a tad on the dry side). The Tuna Melt was a good option as well but would not have been my sandwich choice, especially since there is a Montecristo on the menu. Overall there is a sizable menu that does almost everything well at Martha's. Service: We had the honor of having Emma as our waitress and she was charming, engaging, and kind. Kept all of our needs met (full water glasses) and checked on us at a due proper amount. The food came out in an efficient manner after we ordered and made for a good service experience. Ambiance: Breakfast/brunch/lunch at the beach. That is a Winner, Winner, Martha's dinner experience right there. Comfortable seating and well laid out tables with a lot of people watching opportunities. The restaurant itself is homey and well adorned to give you a seaside feel for the decor. This holds up to the beach dining experience you come here for.

Martha's been here for decades. Good luck if you think you can eat here on the weekend. I think what it is, is that it's half a block from the beach. I could see the sand from where I was sitting. I came during the week, in the morning. The metered parking is free before 10AM. There were plenty of tables available around 8AM. Gentleman who worked there said I could choose to sit at any empty table. Tables are close to one another. I ordered a latte with oat milk and an avocado toast. The problem with this place is that the food looks better than it tastes. There were fresh ingredients on my avocado toast, but nothing special. I don't understand why it's always so crowded when the food is average. By the way, there are fly deterrents on every table outdoors. There was a noticeable amount of flies flying around while I was eating. Service was good.

I've been coming to Martha's for a long time - mostly to entertain visitors - because as one reviewer wrote "the perfect breakfast spot". And more recently with our retired gentlemen's southbay breakfast club. We pick this spot for the convenience of our post-breakfast strand stroll. I'll give it 5 stars for the ambiance, location, and service; but only 2 stars for the food. All the times I've eaten here I've never had a meal that was "wow I gotta come back for that." It's more like "Eh...okay, gotta try something different next time." Granted it's always been breakfast... eggs and something. The place gets good reviews, a lot of guests really love it. And on a nice day it's outside is packed.

For lunch I ended up doing the 3 for $21 deal which is exactly that, a fantastic deal. I ended up choosing the House Fries, the Tempura Fish Tacos, and the 1/2 Grilled Cheese Sandwich. How was it? House Fries- Covered in Grana Padano and Mustard Aioli, these French Fries were super crispy and tasted really, really good. Tempura Fish Tacos- Two tacos that I wish I could transform into 20. The Tempura fish here was absolutely delicious. 1/2 Grilled Cheese Sandwich- A few different cheeses between some sourdough, a simple but fantastic grilled cheese sandwich. And Hubbers suggested this place for a late-ish lunch because he's been here before and had a positive experience. Outdoor seating only since we had the furballs. We had our choice of where since we were the only customers on a late lunch hour. Servers were so patient with our pups (even when they were moody - my apologies!) and were even nice enough to bring them water bowls! It was a cool and cloudy day, but that didn't damper anything. In fact, we appreciated it coming off the heat wave from the last couple of weeks! Everything on their menu looked so good, it took me awhile to decide. But Hubbers and I agreed on the Kayak Tide Tray (+4 extra oysters) and the charred watermelon salad. In the meanwhile, I battled between lobster pasta and five dragon pastrami. (The pasta won out.) Hubbers went for the cedar planked Ora king salmon. And a couple of cocktails to wash it all down! KAYAK TIDE TRAY: The seasoned scallops were my favorites, hands down. The sauce was fantastic and didn't overpower the scallops' main essence. The oysters were shucked fresh and the sauces elevated the flavors a bit. Shrimps were chilled tender and had a nice chew. Cocktail sauce added flavor. The mussels? Sad to say, but half of them were served still frozen hard. So we took our time with it and let it thaw out which didn't happen until we were halfway our meal. Overall: excellent. CHARRED WATERMELON: This plate was so well put together! And not only is it pleasing to the eyes (nice touch with the micros!), it was the same with the palate. Watermelon was fresh. Charred only on one side (I'm curious what it would be like if they charred ALL the sides - will make this request - only if possible - next time!) Taking bites from each component of this salad makes all the difference: the acidity of the tomatoes are tempered by the burrata and the cucumbers, and the freshness of the watermelon makes it all refreshing. The onions added a bit of tart, as did the pomegranates. Didn't notice any macadamia nuts, but no matter! This is a must have! LOBSTER PASTA: Didn't happen... see below. LOBSTER ROLL: Served along with Hubbers' salmon plate (more on that later.) We had a different server at this point (our first one told us he was going on his break.) I thought Hubbers put in an order of this too, so I moved the plate to his side. Our server noticed this and said, "Are you sharing? Would you like an extra plate?" Hubbers confirmed he didn't other this. And that neither did I, but we are waiting on the lobster pasta. He then explained they are out of that dish, "was this not related to you?" Long story short, I told him I'd take the roll, no biggie. He offered to comp it, and if I like, I can put in another order. So I went for the pastrami. And as we waited for that, Hubbers and I split this and WOW. Bread was toasted and buttered perfect, generous with the amount of lobster, plating was a delight to the eyes, and overall delicious. I appreciated the aroma of the tarragon. Yum! FIVE DRAGON PASTRAMI: This is a generous serving, plenty to share with another. Lots of flavors with each bite but the well-seasoned and flavored pastrami dominates them all. The slaw was strong but the subtleness of the lappi balanced it out. Sourdough was perfectly toasted. I thought about not ordering this since I knew the lobster roll might have been enough, but I'm sure glad I went for it! Delish! Hubbers let me have a couple of bites off his salmon plate and O.M.G.!!! He sure picked a good one! Skin was seasoned crispy and the fish was so moist! This is probably one of the best versions of salmon I've had. (For the record, I rarely order anything salmon since 90-95% of the time, they're served dry, but this one here, I'd highly recommend.) FOOD: 4.75. SERVICE: 5. They were AMAZING!!! VALUE: 4. Given the location, pricing is understandable. But worth it. PARKING: Street/Structure only. All metered. And getting here will require a bit of a walk depending on where you parked. OVERALL: 4.5. Plans on coming back here with more people is now in the works. Looking forward to doing that soon!

I could drink the chimichurri sauce it came with and the meat was tender and cooked to perfection * mole blanco enchiladas - chicken Machacha, queso, chipotle pepitas, arroz de tomatillo and frijoles Nevro . 9.5/10 and I fear I will never want to have mole any other way. I also got a complimentary dessert of choice for my birthday. I opted for the fried ice cream (horchata flavored) which was divine and the perfect sweet treat to end the meal. The ambiance is lively, I recommend to sit outdoors as several other restaurants have live music and great to people watch. Huge compliments to the chef and to our incredible waiter, Peter, who was attentive and provided the best recommendations. Would definitely come back to explore more of the menu.

We ate half of our meals that day and finished the leftovers on the 23rd. On Christmas Eve morning, I woke up violently ill. I spent the next several days isolated in a bedroom, unable to keep anything down, constantly vomiting, and dealing with severe gastrointestinal symptoms. It was the sickest I have ever felt in my life with severe nausea. At the same time, my 3‑year‑old daughter suddenly spiked a 103.5° fever and developed diarrhea. My husband had to rush her to urgent care, and from there she was sent to the ER so she could receive fluids. Watching my child go through that was terrifying. After a week of not improving, I went to urgent care and tested positive for Salmonella poisoning. My daughter also tested positive while she was hospitalized. We are both still dealing with symptoms. I am going on a second strong course of antibiotics today. After my test result was reported, the LA County Department of Public Health contacted me. They told me that another woman in Redondo Beach, who had eaten the same salad on 12/22, also tested positive for Salmonella and had been hospitalized for several days. I later spoke with her and her family, and hearing her story was heartbreaking. LA County has opened an investigation, and I am cooperating fully. I'm sharing what happened to us in hopes that it helps others stay aware and safe.
