There are restaurants that have to change with time and there are restaurants that transcend time. Giulio's represents the latter. My family has been going here forever and a day (true story) They've been open at least 40 year and any place has been open 40+ years is doing something right and Giulio's does everything right. They're just off of Old Country Rd. in Westbury. Hidden from the masses but that doesn't stop them from being packed every night. The decor hasn't changed much since they opened, but then again they really don't need to. The bar is to your left as you enter and to the right, pictures (tons of them ) of celebs who have sat at Giulio's to enjoy a meal. The dining room is fairly large and has tables draped in white linen. If you've been there more than twice they pretty much all know your name. The staff, whom most have been there 20+ years are always friendly and eager to take care of you. I wont go into detail about the food too much because it is all awesome. Giulio, the owner and head chef, who comes to the table to tell you about the specials and take your order, will make you just about anything you like. The food is always fresh and always made from scratch. Some of my favorites are the osso bucco which is braised lamb shank. Soooooo freakin good! Also the stuffed veal chop (not on the menu) and the hand made pasta with lamb ragu are amazing. I have never had a bad meal here in the 20 years that I've been going here. In my opinion Giulio's is the best Italian restaurant if not the best restaurant in Long Island. The greatness here does come at a price as this place is not cheap. It's s special occasion type of place and if you're lucky like I am, a spot you get to frequent often. read more

Took my wife here for her birthday as a total surprise. What I love about this place it still has that old school feel and it tucked away from a major road on Long Island. We had a chance to meet Giulio and some of his family as they are the ones running the business with his staff. Eats: - Osso Bucco which was simply delicious, juicy and tender. Full of flavor and seems that it was slow cooked for hours. - Grilled Chicken a la vodka was also delicious. Chicken was cooked just right and sauce tasted home made. - For dessert we had the main dining room made flambé which for us wasn't the greatest. Actually, I am not sure why we order this as we are typically not a fan of flambé so don't trust my judgement on this and give it a shot if you like this type of dessert. Overall I would definitely come again. The service, ambiance and food made it a memorable experience for both my wife and I. read more

Hey! It's Julio and Cesaré. It's always good! I normally have the veal meatballs and pasta. They melt in your mouth. Tonight I'm having the shrimp Parmesan. Shrimp was fresh and meaty. An unbelievably sinful dish. Others had Osso Bucco, swordfish (Marx Brothers, lol), Veal chop (big and juicy), etc. the Tortollini en brodo was a bit bland, but the other apps were fine, although Adele didn't eat her salad. Her and her sister are never content and return things. It's part of their DNA I guess. I'm used to it. Personally something would have to be pretty bad for me to return it. I can't imagine returning anything at this joint! Service is always warm and great. Of course they have known the family for years so treat everyone so well. This place is very well known and one of the best Northern Italian places on Long Island, even the whole Metro area. I wasn't going to go out tonight since originally dinner was planned at Stressa. An old school Italian restaurant that simply does it's job better than almost any other restaurant on Long Island. Meals are delicious and service is great. First time here! The service was wonderful, portions are very big. We enjoyed the Caesar salad and mussels for an appetizer, there was so many daily specials available, but it's verbally told to you, and it's hard to decide and remember, this was our first time here. many options on the menu. Interesting enough I never order anything else except for the same Aglio Et Olio with angel hair pasta/-I can't eat this anywhere else---all though it is a simple dish no one nowhere makes it so perfect (as my grandfather used to make) meat balls -they make them with veal-beef and they are truly delicious---Stuffed Veal Chop---stuffed with cheese --prosciutto in a mushroom /wine gravy that you have to eat every bite and escarole with potatoes old style--absolutely creamy with a wonderful texture. Giulio Cesare is one of my favorite Northern Italian restaurants, and I am one of their favorite regulars. A lot of the reviews that I've read, state that people who dine there are very old, many over 50 years and up. This apparently causes the reviewing Yelpers enough concern to report it, as a negative. Many of my friends and I are way under that number, and we don't care who else is there, minding their own business, paying $125 to enjoy a delicious dinner for 2 (including cocktails, tip, and tax). Why should anybody else mind if some people who are older than they are, will be there, too. I could understand giving a heads-up if a restaurant allowed, and was frequented by people with out-of-control, screaming, crying children..........but older people?? Maybe it would be a good idea to include among the check-off items that appear before the restaurant reviews, i.e. Smoking - Wheelchair Accessibility - Take Out - the following additional items for people to consider before coming: A- Too Many Old People? B-Too Many African Americans? C- Too Many Latino Americans;? D- Two Many White Americans?, etc. It's a good feeling to be a regular at a great restaurant like Giulio Cesare. This is because it's easy to relax in an environment where everybody knows your name, and your drink, and the owner gives you a big hug, and whispers in your ear that your favorite dish is one of the specials tonight. The waiters know what kind of coffee I want with my dessert, and how many sugars and if I take cream. They know which desserts I like, and arrange a small assortment of them on a special plate, just for me. The host offers me and my guest(s) an aperitif, champagne, or anything else we want, on the house. I have a group of favorites in each category, and it's hard for me to decide which to order. I always start with a hot appetizer and choose from a shortlist of the ones I enjoy most. Tonight, it will be "Mozzarella en corroza with anchovy sauce and capers."Even if you don't like anchovies, which I didn't, you will love this delicious offering. Mike cuts off a generous slice of buffalo mozzarella, that he dusts with flour, and coats with a mixture of eggs, salt and pepper. That gets pan fried in olive oil until golden brown on each side, plated and served hot, and topped with a delicious anchovy sauce with capers. The finished product is slightly brown and crispy on the outside, but lusciously creamy and warm melted cheese on the inside, and the anchovy sauce brings it home with style and flavor. Next, my main course will be "Osso Bucco," a tender, luscious and delicious, salt and pepper seasoned, rich and extremely meaty lamb shank that has been braised for 6 hours and served on a dinner plate with savory sauce and a big bone. The large shank bone, has a cocktail fork sticking out, so I can remove and savor the exquisite taste of marrow, melting on my tongue. Fantastico! Along with that, I will order Angel Hair Primavera, the thinnest of all Spaghettis, cooked al dente, with delicate baby broccoli, cauliflower, fresh green peas and carrots, in one of my favorite addictive sauces of all time, and aged Reggiano Parmigiano generously sprinkled on, for an even more complex flavor. Desserts are all good, but anticlimactic, so I'm going to avoid discussing them. This is an iconic restaurant, that got better as it got older. Giulio Cesare is always very busy, and deservedly so. It got a jump start after its opening, because Roosevelt Raceway, the Islanders hockey team, the Westbury Music Fair, and Fortunoff's department store were all operating at peak volume, and attracted a lot of hungry and wealthy people to the area. Barolo Montfortino is my favorite, and one of the most outstanding, and expensive of all the Barolos in Italy. Naturally, it goes well with everything at Giulio Cesare. Whenever I order a bottle, the first glass of wine goes to Cesare, and we drink a toast. I always save a glass for Armando, my favorite waiter, to drink in the kitchen. It's a tradition, that some of the regulars and staff share; and is a bond between us. I don't think there's any way that Giulio Cesare will be able to continue on for too long. Selling the restaurant business is unlikely, because without Giulio and Cesare there, and with the staff retiring to warmer climates, the regulars will no longer feel regular, and the knot will be untied---marking the end of a great run! Meanwhile, fellow Yelpers, go and enjoy an exquisite experience as guests of Cesare, Giulio, Armando, 2 Marios, Mike, Milano, Raoul, Odeel, David, and Paul. They just might get a second wind, and stay there long enough for you to become a "regular." This is an old standby that I should have reviewed a long time ago. Some of the best Italian food you will ever have. Chef usually greets you at the door. You MUST have a reservation. Place was packed tonight on a Monday night. and it is located off the main rd. Always go with the specials, but the menu is amazing too. If you don't see what you want just ask they'll make it. The Veal Meatballs are world renowned. Older crowd, judges, politicians, sports teams, that kind of a place. Had the veal meatballs tonight and they were amazing as usual. An absolute classic old school Northern Italian joint. They haven't changed anything (menu, decor, wait staff, etc.) in years & years, but they've always had the same approach... excellent food, great service & they'll make it for you if it isn't on the menu. Major kudos go to the Filet Giulio and the clams in wine broth. I don't think I've strayed from this formula the last 10 times I've been there. The Chilean Sea Bass is also great. I love all the old photos out in the lobby... especially the hockey player shots (including a few of The Great One) from back in the Islanders 80's heyday. I can't believe anyone would give this restaurant 4 stars. It was very disappointing. Reviewers raved about the osso bucco so I ordered it. Totally bland. It was supposed to be served with bow tie pasta but they gave me some mush. It was served with a side of what was supposed to be mashed potatoes mixed with spinach. Horrible. My friend had chicken parm. He said that wasn't very good either. Then there was the ambiance. Totally outdated. The ceiling was dropped with those tiles like they have in offices. One old favorite that hasn't lost it's luster. Some of the best southern Italian food on the island. I was saddened to hear that Cesare no longer works dinner, but we were warmly greeted by his son. Guilio still comes to the table to take your order and to say hello. What comes from the kitchen is always good - a real treat. My only concern is that the crowd is getting older. Why drive to NYC when you have Giulio Cesare right here on Long Island? I have tried just about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed once. They have the best fish I've ever had, including Red Snapper Livornese, Salmon with a white wine and Dijon mustard sauce, Chilean sea bass, filet of sole, and halibut. Giulio's sauces pair perfectly with each dish, whether it is veal, chicken, beef or seafood. If there is something you want that is not on the menu they will gladly accommodate your request. This restaurant is a hidden gem. We are foodies and have lived on Long Island all of our lives. Heard about this place last week, and promptly made a reservation for the following Friday night. We were welcomed very warmly, and seated right away. Our waiter was very attentive, but not at all intrusive. The food was excellent all around. Authentic Italian cuisine, prepared with very fresh ingredients. They do not in any way make you feel awkward if you have special preferences with your order, and the food arrives at the table hot and delicious. As far as the crowd, it seemed there were a lot of regulars. That being said, these folks, even in a full dining room maintain a respectful volume ensuring a nice evening for all. From Giulio, himself, coming out to take our order to the excellent table service, to the wonderful food. The atmosphere was welcoming and reminded me of family get-togethers, when I was young. Every year my mother and I go Christmas shopping all day and end the day by going to a nice dinner. She mentioned that her boss would go to a "hidden gem." Boy was her boss right! This place is tucked away off a main street and kind of looks like a little house. We went around 6pm on a Wednesday night. We were greeted with smiles. The gentlemen asked if we happened to have reservations. A little surprised we said no and he said no problem and took us to a table. We ordered 2 martini to start - they were made PERFECTLY. We noticed that a majority of the men coming in were wearing suit jackets. They even had a private party going on in the back area (it's closed off.) For apps we had a salad to share and the white wine mussels. Fresh and delicious. Entrees I had grilled chicken rigatoni alla vodka and my mother had the veal meatball special with spaghetti, which she loved! Dessert we had a Tartufo and after dinner drinks. Prices were reasonable. $25-$35 for entrees and martinis were $12-$14. We left feeling stuffed! Very cozy place but high end - some cars in parking lot were Porsche, Mercedes, Range Rover. My family came here for dinner; this place is hyped! They needed two weeks in advance for a reservation. I'm not sure why that is, though; the restaurant is good, but it's certainly not two-weeks-in-advance-to-reserve good. I had gnocchi with bolognese; it was tasty. My parents had fish and I think my sister had the alla vodka. We all enjoyed our meals; my dad wasn't thrilled with his martini, but that was the only small issue we encountered. Service was fine. This place really is your standard, run-of-the-mill nicer Italian restaurant; I have nothing bad to say, I just can't believe how much some people love it. To each his own, I suppose. I hear well known people frequent this spot; Giulio Cesare's walls certainly attest to the fact that many notable people have eaten here. Stopped by for dinner with a friend after work. Awesome wines and food. Had Red Snapper and Soft Shell Crab which were tasty. Spaghetti dish was great too not to mention the baked clams and calamari as appetizers. Overall a real nice old school Italian place to enjoy good drinks and meal with friends after shopping right off Old Country Road. Definitely five stars!!! This place is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at. I first went here with my in-laws and fiance for a family dinner, and by the time we were finished with our meal, the entire place was PACKED! This is a traditional Italian place that will make anything to your liking, which is amazing in my case since so many of their dishes sounded delicious, but I could not have them because of my shellfish allergy. The chef and owner himself came to our table and put together a special sea bass dish for me in a white sauce that was to die for. I ATE THE ENTIRE THING, which is a rarity for me. They also make fresh zabaglione, which is a dessert made with white wine and they serve it over berries. So delicious. Food was pizzeria quality starting with an uninspiring appetizer of antipasto for two which was made up with basically subpar ingredients that could be purchased at any supermarket the baked clams were tasty however instead of little necks we wete served top necks and they were chewy.my osso buco was overcooked and stringy and the salmon was dry the sides of escarole where once again bland and pedestrian as were the escarole mixed with potatoes the desserts were standerd fare that could be had at any of the Thousand other restaurants for a lesser amount of money service was fair not very smiley and basically inattentive don't know how this was 40 years ago but it ain't much now read more

Went there with my wife last night. This is my review. To start, the bread on the table was like mush, not crusty, not good. I ordered Mozzarella and Tomatoes, the tomatoes were OK, the Mozzarella was hard like Polly-O, not good. The main course I ordered was Spagatti Matriciana, it is one of my favorite dishes. Its made with Tomatoes, onions, bacon and a little hot pepper. This was nothing like it. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce had no flavor. The Capuccino was excellent. I give this restaurant a 2 1/2 or 3 rating out of 10 I'll never go there again. read more

Was heading to the westbury theatre in Long Island ny to see a show that starter at 8pm. So unsaid my daughter let's try to stop to get a bite to eat before the show. So I said let's go on yelp and see what they recommend and we found this restaurant nearby the theater on yelp. When we got to the restaurant the maître d' told us we need a reservation so I explained to him that we saw the review on yelp and we decided to come eat here. The maître d' was very accommodating and he allowed us to sit down to have a dinner the food was unbelievable the service was unbelievable, menu prices are on the high end but quality food made to order. This place is outstanding, without a doubt one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been too. Everything was fantastic top to bottom. I started with cesar salad, crunchy kroutons, crisp lettuce and the perfect dressing not too mcuh fish or egg. The veal meatballs with pasta were gerat too. I have never had veal meatballs before and probably won't ever again until I go back to this place. The chef came out of the kitchen to greet our party personally. It was so good we went back there another night on our vacation. Better than the Steakhouse that was twice the price the night before. This turned out to be an overall excellent dining experience. The atmosphere is dated but I found that to be part of the charm as both my husband and I got a real kick out of the photos on the wall; it is a great piece of their history. The service was fantastic, the meal just delicious and the drinks flowed. From the moment we sat at the bar everyone was very nice...we actually met a couple who was there on their first date back in 73 and have been going back ever since...a lot of regulars that have been going to this place for 40 years and being in our 40's there was definitely a generation gap; however, the food is great and as long as you are not looking for some sort of "scene" and want fantastic italian food this would be the hidden jewel. I had the salad, a signature here. Lets just say I could have soaked up the dressing with a loaf of italian bread...it was delish! Next the stuffed artichoke and again one of the tastiest like my grandmother would have made. Ravioli with meat sauce came next and again delicious. I also appreciate that they give you an option for a half order of any pasta dish. My husband had the veal Giulio and loved it...coffee, dessert all really really good. Eh...it was more of a landmark establishment than a place I would go to soothe my craving for Italian food. The crowd is much older and they are regulars. Signature meatballs were okay. This was the best Tradition Italian food I had on Long Island in a long time!!! Everything on the menu is very traditional. I had the veal osso bucco with gnocchi and boy let me tell you this was the highlight of my week. Everything that my table had was delicious. Including the cold seafood salad and baked clams. If you are going to splurge, this is the place to do it! We have been coming here for years, and have never been dissatisfied. We come here for special occasions, because it is a bit pricey and our budget doesn't allow for weekly or monthly dinners. Simply the best Classic Italian restaurant in Nassau County. The food is always excellent as is the the presentation. The waiters are extremely attentive and courteous and provide excellent service. Osso Bucco and salmon served to perfection. Cold antipasto appetizer is perfect as is the homemade pasta and the Osso Bucco sauce. I have been coming here for years and the quality and service have never faltered. I have never had a bad meal here, whether meat or fish, with special sauces or plain.
