Well, I give it 3.5 stars this time. Service was ten times better than last time I went. This visit was strictly to carbo load for a run, so I did not have any appetizers this time. I ordered the Pork carbonara and my running buddy had the Veal Parm. The before dinner bread is still very tasty. My meal was good, not great. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was flavorful. The pork cutlets however were severely overcooked. They were difficult to cut with my butter knife. My buddies veal parm was just okay. It was hard to find the veal on the plate. Then we realized there was huge glob of undercooked cheese on top of the veal. They must have put it in a salamander because the top was cooked, but underneath, it was not. Once he moved that to the side he found the veal and his noodles. Overall, extremely large portions, but I would rather have a smaller portion of properly cooked pork. Overall, it was decent. Not fantastic, but not terrible either. My wife and I just got back from dinner at one of the finest Italian restaurants anywhere! Period. We began our meal with their house salads. Then we shared a generous order of lamb osso bucco with linguine topped by a superb tomato sauce. We both moaned and groaned with delight from the sublime flavors, just like being in Italy! A large birthday party nearby ended their meal with a tall 3-layer candle-lighted cake with chocolate icing and a custard filling between the lower layers and chocolate filling between the upper layers. It was Dolce de Patricia cake, one of Guiseppe's specialties. So we ordered a slice to complete our meal. Great decision! Our server was William who was assisted by a new server trainee. Both were extra friendly and helpful. Guiseppe's is a one-of-a-kind family operation, which means we'll have to return to Tucson soon for another fine meal there. Next time we will have the Sicilian beef dish, braciole. We can hardly wait! read more

The food was very good but the service and wait for our food left a lot to be desired. We were a non alcohol drinking table and I got the feeling that is why our service was mediocre. Giuseppe's is hidden in the plaza that Putney's lives in - I had no idea that it existed until we planned a surprise birthday dinner for a friend there. Service was SLOW but accommodating - I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here and say service is timed more to the European style of dining rather than the "wham bam thank you ma'am" style that America is used to. Drinks took an exceptionally long time to come out, which may not have been the server's fault but the bar's, but certainly if that is the case the server can relay the message to the table that the drinks are being prepared, rather than us just thinking that they've forgotten about them altogether. The food that came out looked like old school Italian fare - lots of cheese, sauces, and pasta. I (and curse my allergy testing) am currently following a no gluten diet to see if that will help some health stuff, ordered the Giuseppe salad and added a portion of grilled salmon to it. The salad was dressed lightly, had fresh ingredients, and I enjoyed the mixture of flavors. The salmon was seasoned well but overcooked. Altogether my salad came to $14.50 which I think is reasonable for the amount of salmon they put on the salad. Everyone around me at the table seemed to enjoy their dishes, from fettucine alfredo to lamb osso bucco. The one complaint I heard was that a side of meatballs actually had bigger chunks of diced onion that were not properly cooked down (and this person HATES onion so it was REALLY apparent to them). Ambiance - we sat out on the patio - I totally recommend having your party sit out there if the weather is great. It's pretty, you can people watch, and you can hear each other talk. This isn't a place I would go out of my way to go back to on my own, as I think the Italian food I make (and salads) at home are far superior, however if someone else suggests meeting here I wouldn't be opposed to coming back. read more

We had a delicious anniversary dinner with 2 entrees (eggplant parm and chicken cannelloni) a salad and 3 glasses of wine plus tip for under $50. And no problems at all with service... There were at least four different wait staff attending to us during our meal. My cannelloni was tremendous. A flavorful (bay leaf, sage) bechamel with spinach, carrots, onions and a very generous serving throughout of chicken breast stuffed two cannelloni and was baked to perfection. Just this side of "too rich". Like an discerning adult's version of chicken pot pie, although I might not admit that publically. Total comfort taste and completely satisfying. I will order this without hesitation the next time we visit. Hubby loved his eggplant parm but was too engaged to do much more than groan with happiness. He liked his house Chianti; I liked my Chard. This is my in-laws favorite restaurant and I've been there a few times. Never had a bad meal. Quick, smiling service as well. This weekend I had occasion to taste the best Alfredo I've EVER eaten - smooth and creamy. Usually it's been overheated, separated, and grainy. No flaws with this one! Our table enjoyed the eggplant parmesan, veal parmesan, chicken giovanni, and alfredo. Great pricing as well and their wine menu is affordable. We also enjoy their desserts and the stuffed mushrooms. We will continue to patronize this great little hideaway. If you're looking for flash and trendsetting dining - this isn't it. But taking the family out for a nice Italian meal - you got it here. read more

9/22/21 Appreciate the owner response - based on past visits, upgrade rating and will go back - assume the bad service was isolated incident. I do suggest that the owners add a "Contact Me" to their website to allow feedback other than public. Bad service- well over 1 hour waiting.... Upon arriving, First thing we noticed was that they have the tables very close together- packed people in like sardines... We Made reservations for 5:30 arrived we 5:15 placed our order, waiter did not take time to update us on our order status, and at 6:45 no food - We flagged down our waiter, explained that we have been seated for over 11/2 hour, with no updates .... asked for our check - explained that if he would have just let us know that our order was delayed or something we would have been ok - We paid and left. Waiter did not offer explanation, no manager took notice.... no one seems to care. we have dined here several times , food has been good, but it seems that the service has declined, and no one seemed to care.... we left with out eating.... We tried to go to website to send a note before posting this review, they have no way to contact management??? As a business owner myself, I want to hear feedback and have opportunity to correct any problem.... We will not be back and unfortunately will not recommend to others.... read more

Perfectly serviceable Italian food. Not great, but not bad. I ordered the antipasto plate and the pesto salad, thinking an appetizer and a salad would be perfect for one. Wrong. It was perfect for three, maybe four people. The portions didn't stop me from ordering spumoni to gorge myself on in my hotel room, though. The service was excellent, though. When some restaurants fall they fall hard. A recent dining experience at this restaurant was a disaster. We received it in the room once part of a cigar store which reaped of tobacco. I'll go over all the mistakes beginning with the appetizers of the usually excellent mushrooms. The Caps were placed on the side of each ball of stuffing and barely cooked. My dining companions meatballs with ricotta were far inferior to what they used to be the meatballs were LED in instead of light and fluffy the sauce was basically out of a can in baked in a to a big mess which no Italian would even recognize. My ossobuco was barely heated in the pasta it came with was gummy. The reason the pasta was gummy is that the pasta Hedman creep are boiled and then dumped in hot water which should never ever be done with pasta especially at an Italian restaurant. There is exactly one way to serve pasta which is Al Dente and this wasn't remotely al dente. All the old waiters were gone I think what's happened is this been to change of ownership and or management. But in its present State it's a mess and I won't be back. read more

This is not the first time I've been to Guiseppe's, but tonight seemed to be a standard and not the exception to the rule. Service was ok the time before, and food was decent although it wasn't me picking up the check, but that's not the experience I'm rating tonight. Tonight with Jessica as our server was unapologetically rude, sure she took our order(not in a timely manner) and brought us the check(also collected the check before we left saying are you done with that) but my gosh she even offered to box up the leftovers, that was over half the meal, unfortunately we never got it back. I guess according to her it got thrown away, no offer to remake it or I'm sorry, no manager. Just "someone threw it away have a good night," ummmm ok. Soo long story short I wish I could write a good review, I wish I could say food and service was great, and I will definitely be back. However I'm not sure that I will, my meal at least what I had of it was good but why does the kitchen have to make excuses for the service, after all it's called the service industry not the kitchen industry, I have a kitchen at home. read more

This is a great place if you're looking for some solid Italian food. It came highly recommended by someone I work with and it totally lived to the expectations. We decided to sit outside as there was a spectacular lightning show going over the Catalinas. The buttery garlic bread they bring out is fresh and hot. Our server brought us a small side of their house vinaigrette salad dressing to dip it in. It was so good. The oil they have at the table to complement the bread is pretty light and the balsamic vinegar is just fine - nothing too special going on there. We ordered their grilled pork and the meatball ricotta. The grilled pork was really good. The pork was nicely cooked and went great with the grilled spinach that came along with it. The spinach was actually really good. It was topped with mozzarella cheese - a bit too much cheese for my taste - and came with a bit of linguine and some red sauce that I could not get enough of. The linguine was cooked just right and that red sauce still taunts my taste buds for more. The meatball ricotta was a whole lot of a dish. Really, there was a whole lot of food that came with this plate that my friend didn't even finish it. The meatballs were so nice and they did not skimp on the amount they give. The sauce was delicious, farfalle pasta great, and the cheese was a lot. I think we left about a pound of cheese on the plate because there was so much of it. Lovely dish though, you wouldn't be disappointed if you got it. Because both dishes were so filling, we weren't able to get their Dolce de Patricia. We had seen it come out a few times while eating, and this thing looked divine. Next time I visit, it's on my need to have list. Side note. They have this beautiful landscape painting right inside their entrance. I asked the manager about it as he came by our table, and mentioned that they get their art from the Jane Hamilton Fine Art Gallery just a couple miles down the road. I went to guiseppes February 17th for dinner with my girlfriends family. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The restaurant was quite busy however and there were two large tables that had already been served and were eating. The waiter took 10 minutes to take our drink order and it took another 20 Minutes for him to bring the drinks, no apology, just blamed the bartender. Our food came about an hour after we ordered, again, no apology. We complained to the manager who offered us a couple drinks and deserts, it was something but seemed halfhearted and lacking. He took forever to bring the bill as well. Our dining experience took over 2 hours, rediculous. Possibly the rudest service I have received in some time. The food was quite good though. read more

We took a party of 10 there on a Sunday afternoon which included a 5 year old & an 11 year old. We called ahead & they had a table ready for us when we got there. They were quick with refilling the bread & drinks (I never had to ask for a refill, he had a new one to before I finished the old) & almost every table was full in the place. Not the best place to take a kid - no kid menu or coloring sets BUT they accommodated her very well. He brought her a drink in a to-go cup & found computer paper, highlighters & dry-erase markers so she could draw. She ate the Alfredo which they gave a small portion just for her & gave kid friendly noodles (bow tie). She loved it & so did everyone that tried it! I would get the Alfredo if we ever go back to Tucson & eat there. Everyone loved there meal & everyone had enough leftovers for a whole meal the next day. My fiance's Pork Ricotta was to die for! I would love to have this recipe!! I had the chicken Bolognese. It was very good, the other two previously mentioned were better. The only down side was it took an extremely long time for the food to come out, on the other hand, we did have 10 people & almost everyone ordered a meat dish, so I really can't fault them for this. The food is excellent, and the service was great. Guiseppe's is a great value for the price. I had fettuccine alfredo with chicken for about $11--all homemade. Olive Garden charges $12.25 without chicken--and it's not fresh. Macaroni grill wants $13.50--and it's wheat pasta. My husband had the bragiole. He eats a lot, and even he had to take home half. Disappointed! We dine at Guiseppes on many occasions. Service is usually good and we like the food. Had dinner there tonight and were totally disappointed. Service was terrible. Had to continually ask for anything we needed (balsamic, drinks, cheese,) even after asking, we had to remind our server 2-3 times. Dinner took over 2.5 hours with no appetizers or desserts. Not even an apology when he knew his was not taking care of us. With covid, we fully understand issues with staffing, etc. and have been very patient, but this was ridiculous. I'm having a hard time writing this review and it should be a 2.5 stars. Being Italian and raised with excellent food in the family I'm terrible to go out for Italian restaurants. However I have had some past success with this restaurant and their lineage of family owned restaurants. This will be my last time at guissepes. The calamari was recommended by the server and all I can say is if you love Burger King Onion Rings you will love these. Esp for the price. They are clearly mass produced preformed and taste the same way. Served with cocktail sauce from a jar. Highly dissatisfied. The red "sauce" gravy or whatever you call it was orange. And very watery. So watery that we tried to take it home but the way the leftovers were packed cause them to leak all over. Huge to go black bags. And off balanced containers in their caused that. I like to pack my own leftovers too ...kinda weirds me out when they dissapear in the back with my food and I cant see if they stuck their fingers in it, how they loaded it, etc. I think this place maybe has just cut corners on food costs to make up for overhead. The service has always been great, and that's half the battle in Tucson finding quality staff that give a shit. My eggplant parmesan was not great. Giuseppe's... well when it opened it was great. Great food, great prices, great portions... a hidden gem. I have been at least a dozen times. As of late the quality of the food itself has gone down. The prices are right but for some reason the food itself is not sustaining what was first being served when the doors opened. I ordered a vodka cocktail and each time I ordered it I could tell there was barely any vodka in it... very disappointing. Also, the Bolagnese is their best dish. Atmosphere is very loud and not very nice decorations but the price and the food outweighs those negatives. It is the second best Scordato restaurant in town. I'd go again but if you were an ORIGINAL patron it is not as good as it once was. Still worth of a visit, but hopefully Joe decides to amp it up. Went to Guiseppe's for New Year's Eve and had a really nice meal. Service was prompt and both the waiter and other staff checked in on us multiple times. Stuffed mushroom appetizer was good. Main dish portions were very good. One note: Eggplant Parmigiana could have used more sauce and cheese, but it was good. I've eaten at the restaurant before but this is my first experience with their take out. I hope this was an anomaly. I ordered the eat plant parmesana and my mother the shrimp scampi. The eat plant was awful. The eat plant wasn't bad but it came without any sauce on top. The amount of pasta was ridiculously small and sat to the side, not underneath, the egg plants. The sauce was awful. If some kind of light red paste. There wasn't much pasta which was okay because the sauce looked just as bad as it tasted. The scampi came in the typical clam shell styrofoam container which allowed the thin sauce to escape into the plastic bag it came in. 2 star because she said it wasn't bad-just a mess to deal with. Why not serve it in a water tight container? If you can't get them, don't offer it. There was no bread or condiment packages. The restaurant didn't discount its food so this wasn't a cheap dinner. I'm trying to patronize the local restaurants during this time but will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Went to dinner last Friday might to celbrate two wedding anniversaries and a birthday. Our reservation was 6:30. We finally got a drink order after 20 min. Finally flagged down our waiter to take orders about 7:30. By now people that arrived after us were eating. While waiting for dinner I had to go to the bar to plsve an order for more drinks. Dinner was served at 8:30! My mother-in-law was last to be served. Off course it was the wrong meal. They served the right dish abour 10 min later. I wish I hadn't eaten any bread beforehand because I wanted to soak up every last drop and they give plenty of sauce. The meal was wonderful. I had a dinner salad also, the greens were fresh, dressing tasty. The bread was fairly plain, didn't stand and it didn't need to with what I ordered but by itself it wasn't noteworthy.
