Wonderful International home style cooking. Try the Sauerkraut. Keeping old traditions and keeping it comfortable for a romantic date night. Great Filet and Crab Cakes no filler. We've passed this restaurant often, and kept saying we should try it. Being at an event across the street last night, we decided to give it a shot. We walked in to a fairly busy late dinner service. The place definitely looks like it caters to an older clientele, as the predominant age was 45+. The decor is definitely dated, lots of heavy wood and bad carpet. For me, that's not a huge deal, as I'm coming for the food & not the decor. Our waitress was extremely friendly, and we were kind of excited about the menu. Lots of options for tasty bites, and a good variety of German dishes. I decided on one of the specials, the sauerbraten with red cabbage & homemade spaetzel. My boyfriend ordered the German dinner from the regular menu. Our salads came out immediately, letting us know it was prepped ahead. I had the house creamy dressing, and boy am I glad I ordered it on the side. It had the texture of ranch, with a slight pink hue, and sweeter than I'd expect a dessert to be. Strike one. I didn't eat much. Our dinners came out ridiculously quick, once again telling us that the majority was not fresh, or at least it was all pre-prepped. Strike two. We dug in, excited to try this fare. One bite in and I knew it was bad. The red cabbage was crazy sweet, as if they'd dumped sugar into the sauté pan. The meat was not bad, but the sauce on top was congealed, and rang of sugar as well. The spaetzel was overcooked and bland, and took on the flavor of the cabbage next to it. My boyfriend said the sausage flavor was ok, but the texture was off (no crunch to the casing), and while he liked the duchess potato, it was over salted. The waitress noticed that I wasn't eating, and came over to check. I told her my thoughts, and she offered me the menu. She said they were known for seafood, so I ordered the scallops in a lemon butter sauce, with roast potatoes & mixed veg. Again, came out super fast. The sauce was congealed, like the butter was old. The texture was slimy. The scallops themselves were covered in paprika (what?), and overdone & rubbery. Definitely not fresh AT ALL. Strike three. We finished our meal & got out of there, barely crossing the threshold before discussing how awful the meal was. We agreed that nothing tastes fresh, that it seemed microwaved, and that for the prices ($20+ per dish), we expected way more. My husband and I stopped in on a Tuesday evening. It was like stepping into a charming country cottage. The servers are very warm and friendly, and will crack little jokes. For instance, a kind older woman said "relax" as she dropped off my wine and his Stella. The inside is dated, but I love the wooden furniture and quaint country pictures and decor. As other reviewers have mentioned, the clientele is predominately 60+. The wine selection is limited (only the house brand of various types of wine), but I thoroughly enjoyed my pinot grigio. It was sweet but not too sweet. A note on the food. It seems as though it's inspired by 60's cooking, which is a bit heavy on the butter and sugar. The dessert menu features Baked Alaska. I find this comforting, and takes me back to my grandmother's home cooking. The homemade Caesar dressing is delicious. It has bacon and doesn't have the same "bite" that most Caesar dressings have. My husband and I thought this was delicious, but other reviewers seemed not to like it. The homemade rolls were quite good. I had fried shrimp with twice-baked potatoes and coleslaw. The shrimp was off good quality and was cooked perfectly. My husband had a delicious breaded veal with homemade brown gravy, spaetzle, and mixed vegetables. The German chocolate cake for dessert was moist and delicious! I find this place absolutely charming. It feels so nostalgic, and the servers seem genuinely happy. Management is doing something right. Like Mike I also stumbled across this place and glad I did. It was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had in a long time. This place is family owned by three brothers (Gladchuk). I ate here for lunch and did find a number of "old people" as Cindy pointed out. But unlike her I will be back. I actually like "old people". I also liked the waitresses uniforms and did not find them to be "weird". Don't miss the opportunity to eat here if you want an excellent meal at a good price. They have been in business for almost 30 years. Their fish is all fresh as are their vegetables. I took the time to take a number of pictures for you to get a feel for the ambience which I found most relaxing. The food is something I would define as good homecooking. They do have a full bar which makes it nice for those wanting a cocktail before the meal. They also take reservations and the waitresss told me that it is a good idea to make one. She also told me about the Christmas decorations she said are very beautiful. They actually make a huge gingerbread house for this occasion which remains on display. I intend to make this place a destination during the Christmas season. This is but one example of how this place feels like eating at home with family. One of the Gladchuk sons was actually working the day I was there and explained how his uncle was one of the cooks who bake the delicious rolls I had just eaten. read more

I cannot believe I waited so long to try this place! Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. We were all very happy with our meals. We got the Chardonnay chicken and salmon. I really would like to like this restaurant. It's a quaint little place with friendly staff and a nice looking menu. Many of my friends think it's fantastic but I can't get past the average quality of the food. My mother and I have eaten here many times with friends (when they are picking the restaurant) and sampled a wide variety of their menu and every time, no matter what we get, I think that another place makes it better. For the price the food should be at least as good as I make at home. The last time we were in, my mother and I split a Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries and each ordered a cup of soup. Without asking they spit the order onto 2 plates which was very nice of them. The food was good but I've had much better and I'll never order their sweet potato fries again. For dessert one of our friends ordered German chocolate cake which sounded wonderful but in reality, it was devil's food cake with an adequate coconut pecan icing - similar but no where near real German chocolate cake. Gladchuk's is a Frederick institution. Filled with locals who have eaten there for years. It's not a showy place, almost looks like it will be country "down home" food - but it's not. Very high quality seafood and steaks. Just completely delicious. If you go, you have to get the crab bisque - it's the best I've ever had. Only had a bad meal once (a broiled piece of fish). Run, don't walk! This place is amazing!! Food is fresh, homemade and prepared with care. The mashed potatoes are REAL, the butterscotch is homemade as are the rolls. So by chance one night, my boyfriend and I decided to go to this restaurant (based on reviews from here) and we were very very impressed. :) The food was excellent and the staff was extrememly courteous and professional!! Glad we went. Have lived in the area over 14 years and never went. It was very quiet. Great wait staff but they all seemed to check out as closing time came and it took forever to get our bill. Cute inn like atmosphere. Food was okay. We had to wait what I thought was LONG for the host to talk to two elderly leaving, which I found quite sweet (as they were regulars) but not the best to not greet us warmly so new comers had a good first impression. It reminded me of the Shamrock which is another place I can't click on any of the Ambiences: Divey \ Hipster \ Casual \ Touristy \ Trendy \ Intimate \ Romantic\ Classy \ Upscale - it's kind of none of them. My husband and I stood at the host stand without even being acknowledged for almost 10 minutes and we had a reservation. First we were sat at a table that was completely off kilter, so we asked to move and were then sat at a lovely table. Our server was very friendly and thorough. Didn't like the raspberry vinegarette dressing with my salad- it was super thick and gloppy. Cheese platter was good and rolls were warm and delicious. I ordered the petit filet with vegetables and scalloped potatoes and was disappointed. Steak was cooked fine, but again with the super thick sauce? Veggies were mush and soaked in butter, potatoes were tasty. My husband had the German dinner and liked it fine, he wanted German food. Overall the service was great, but the food was very disappointing and overpriced. You can get s much better steak dinner for the same price or less at many places in Frederick. We had a really great time at Gladchuk brothers! My parents love this place so we decided to go for my father's birthday. It has a German vibe to the decor but the food has a little bit of everything. Def go for the wings for the appetizer! Nice and crispy with lots of flavor. I had the stuffed shrimp which was sublime and my wife had the BBQ ribs. The ribs were chargrilled and absolutely mouthwatering! Dad got the petit filet cooked to perfection. My husband and I just discovered Gladchuk Brothers today with family. The food and service were really good. Our server checked on us several times but was not intrusive and we had a good visit. The food was wonderful. Three of us got the Polish Lunch. Sausage, stuffed cabbage and pierogies all wonderful. The fourth member of our party got salmon which she said was very good. Just a terrible experience from start to finish. We had 6:30 reservations on a Saturday night. We were seated and ignored for 20 minutes until we finally flagged a server down and asked who had our table. She (Dani) said it was her and she would be right with us. Ten minutes later she returned to take our drink order and tell us how busy it was. Ok, it's a Saturday night...go figure. We ordered our food with our drinks for fear that we would not see Dani for another 20 minutes. About ten minutes later our drinks arrived. Looking around we saw that everyone had bread baskets but us. Dani was nowhere to be found so we flagged down the busboy who got us bread. The food arrived shortly after. I would say mediocre, at best. I got the scallops which were very good. My husband got the chicken cordon bleu which was fair at best. The sides were bland and forgettable. Dani did check on us while we were eating. After we finished Dani eventually got to us and cleared our plates where we promptly asked for the check to end our misery. Again it took Dani at least 10-15 minutes to deliver the check. Don't mind paying for food and service when it is warranted. Do mind paying for food that's ok at best and terrible service. The Yankee Pot Roast was awesome, Vicky our server was the greatest server of all time, I mean you dream about this kind of outstanding service. We met one of the owners, a real gentlemen. We love this place. We live in Frederick, and this is one of our favorites. The restaurant is furnished in a semi-colonial look. The servers have been there forever. It is aptly named, as the chef is a Gladchuk, and the maître d is a Gladchuk, and so on. They do some German specialties, but mostly the menu is standard American faire. This is THE place to take Grandma when she comes to visit. Plenty to eat, and the service is VERY attentive. Comfortable place.
