    French Onion soup
    Marianne D.

Dined at Glen Prairie last Saturday night for the first time. This restaurant is attached to a hotel. It has a nice bar area and lounge area with an open concept dining area. We were seated at the first table near the door in a banquette with an upholstered chair on one side of the table and booth on the other. I first sat on the booth side, and it was so low that I switched to the chair so the table wouldn't be at my clavicle. The chair was very uncomfortable thoughout the meal. Our server didn't introduce herself, but she was friendly and brought over bread service and took our drink order right away. I had a Trefethen Chardonnay, which she brought a taste of because I usually don't drink Chardonnay. That was nice. My husband had an old fashioned, which was way too sweet and he didn't enjoy it. The smoked cherries were medicinal and didn't taste good. The table next to us concurred. We both started with soup. He had a French onion, which was delicious. I had the pumpkin soup, which was not a creamy thick soup. It was more on a broth side. Not a winner for me. I had the tuna poke bowl for dinner, which was plentiful, except for the tuna. It was more like eating a salad, than having the protein of the tuna. It was fresh, though, but missed the mark with little protein. My husband had the fish n' chips and enjoyed it. Our server was extremely busy that the reception desk people were running food. I felt a lack of attention. To be honest, there are much better restaurants to dine at, so I won't be back. Too many misses, lack of attention and the uncomfortable seating.

Pumpkin Homers Ice Cream with sea salt caramel and espresso

A local favorite. We enjoy the seasonal menu and specials. Tonight, along with our standard firecracker shrimp appetizer (LOVE IT), we had the seasonal beef bourguignon, instead of my standby short ribs. It was wonderful. As was the Scottish Salmon on a bed of butternut squash risotto. Paired well with a Pinot noir. But by far the biggest surprise of the evening was the pumpkin ice cream with espresso and sea salt caramel. So GOOD! Go now while it is still in season! The service and atmosphere were excellent as always. Will be back with friends.

Steak Frites look great but were ice cold.

The short- The appetizers were good, the entrees flavor and temperature was inconsistent, and the service was awful. The long- While the server said she would give us space, before we ordered, it was very difficult to flag her down because she didn't come by anymore. After ordering, I would have thought she would have checked on us more frequently. This would have been especially helpful after we received our meals and my daughter's food was cold. It never happened. Our party of 6 had a 20% gratuity added automatically at the end. The percentage is not an issue, but there was zero notification on the menu, or by the server, of such a fee (as I have seen in many other restaurants). The server debated with us about this being the standard and had the nerve later to say it is an Illinois standard. This is patently false in regards to party size and percentage (it varies by location). We asked to see a manager and the server came back saying they weren't around and mush be on break. Upon her return from removing the applied fee, she loudly apologized that we were not happy with the service (the loudest she spoke all night) and now said she informed the manager of all of our concerns and the manager would be available by the reception desk upon departure. Not only was the manager not there, but I am curious why the manager wouldn't come by and check on us personally. Was the server being truthful? With lackluster service, and food that was hit or miss, I would think twice about returning. I definitely cannot recommend Glen Prairie to others.

Literally the best skirt steak I have had in a while. In addition to the garlic mashed potatoes and pico and all the added yumminess on the plate. It was also grass fed steak .... Which is amazing. The ambiance was also cute. 10/10

    Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl

I've always wanted to try this place because I've heard great things about it. Coming there for the first time, I really enjoyed it. The Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl was amazing but my absolute favorite was the dessert !! Our waitress, Edna, was absolutely the sweetest person ever and we really enjoyed her company. Definitely worth the 30 minute commute. I would come here again!

The sweet corn bruschetta was our favorite dish! The squeeze of lime made it even better!

We had missed this great spot when they were closed due to covid for so long. We were pleasantly impressed with our entire meal. The food was served with such flavor, freshness and tasted amazing. My husband even said it was better than he remembered. I would recommend the tuna poke bowl. It was so fresh and reminds me of a fish I had on vacation when only being In glen Ellyn. The mashed sweet potatoes were excellent as well. But the Mac and cheese! There is a reason it's Chicago's best! The butter club crackers on top and the perfect cheese to noodles ratio. Our waitress was on top Of every need while giving us space to enjoy our meal. We will be back soon!

The most delicious pork tenderloin I've ever had.

It was worth the trip we had to travel a lot better than we used to. I live in Bloomingdale and we usually find places to eat that are 8 to 10 minutes away. My friends had to think about it for a while because they had so many different things on the menu--BBQ Ribs, Italian Beef, Souvlaki Chicken or Pork, and more. The dinners were about $20 each--but it was worth every penny--each serving included a Greek Salad, Seasoned Potatoes, and the main entree. I ran into a guy who also recommended the Gyros. My two friends both ordered the Souvlaki Chicken. The chicken was on two skewers. Both of them took home doggy bags because it was a lot of food! Service was great-- the staff was friendly and, even though the customers were to pick up the food themselves, a guy named "Will" helped me by carrying the meals to our table. It appeared that a tip was not expected. As far as ambiance, the dining area was relatively small. There were both seats and chairs, but they also offered outdoor dining. I often judge a restaurant by the condition of their rest rooms. They only had one co-ed bathroom and it needed much attention--unclean and the toilet was clogged with toilet paper. That being said, we will definitely go back there. The gyro plate was as good or better than any other restaurant that makes them.

The young lady at the counter seemed to be having a bad day, at least I hope she was, because if she's like that every day, she shouldn't be working there. She had attitude and was short with us. It wasn't anything she said, but rather, the abruptness with her questions and overall demeanor. If we ordered anything on the side, or asked for something different than what usually comes on a sandwich, she huffed and eye rolled us. It didn't make us feel very welcome. We got a number and sat down and waited. When our food arrived, we were short one soda and a side of vinegar and oil. No worries there. I was taken back a little that we were charged 50 cents for water, $2.50 for one slice of Gouda cheese, and 50 cents for an oil and vinegar cup. There is also a 3% charge for using a credit card. The actual food was better before. My combo sandwich was somewhat bland. I remember the hot dog being bigger before. It went from a deli hot dog to a regular sized one. My wife thought the turkey burger was bigger before as well. Overall, I remember it being more flavorful in the past. My potato salad was still very good. The cannoli pieces were outstanding. The place was fairly crowded being Mother's Day, and the service was pretty quick. Turkey burgers take a while to cook. It's always lively but quiet in the restaurant which I like. I hope this was a one time dud experience, and I will be back, unless the cashier has another bad day, and the food is lacking taste.

We ordered half biscuits and gravy, stuffed French toast, and sweet hot fried chicken and waffles. I'm not quite sure why my half order of biscuits and gravy took about 22 mins to make. It was faster at other places. They were good, not amazing. We received the main entrees a few minutes later. They were huge portions. I got my fried chicken on the mild side because I didn't know how spicy they make it. The mild version was still good. They were easy to cut and tangy. The waffles were firm but soft. The stuffed French toast was loaded with cream cheese inside and I like the generous amount of fresh fruit. Overall, the experience is like a solid 4.

I shall start with the good. This is the closest place to our home when we both have extra-busy…read morework days, with meetings, calls, etc. This is a woman-owned business, which I am happy to support. My husband is a human garbage disposal (rude, but true). He is happy to eat here. I really hate this place. They are overpriced, very overcrowded (on any day of the week, however do not even attempt to get a table on the weekend). If you decide to come anyway, know that they provide no seating for waiting customers. This dump is standing room only. They have (kind of, to be generous) a couple of options for vegans. Their hashbrowns are made with canola oil, and by default only, they are vegan. They serve a very bad fruit cup at a very high price. If you bring your own vegan butter, their toast and English muffin are options as well. Vegetarians do well at any breakfast diner. There are no Celiac/gluten-free options that are marked, however to my limited knowledge eggs and hashbrowns are safe (minus toast) I really try to do my best and include everyone of every dietary choice/need in my reviews.
