I showed up last minute and feeling frazzled as I really needed to get my hair done. I arrived on a Saturday morning, and I was warmly greeted by Nadia. She said she was able to take me in, and I thanked my lucky stars! I absolutely loved that this salon has dedicated parking behind the building, even though there are just a few spaces. It is better than parking on the street. After moving my car, Nadia gave me a welcome tour of their shop, telling me about their product and mission. Never had a salon staff do that, so it felt nice to understand the ethos of the salon. After the welcome tour, she put a smock on me, and we went to wash my hair. Not only did I get my hair washed but I got scalp plus an arm and hand massage. WHAT?! Yes, please. Nadia was so thorough in her wash my hair, and the product smelled lovely! Then we went to her station, where I then got a neck and shoulder massage. EXCUSE ME? It was like a I walked into a dream and I didn't even know it. I proceeded to tell Nadia about my hair journey and what I wish my hair would do and how long it would last. She was so knowledgeable about potential products to use for potential future visits. My whole visit was about 1 hour, and just like that, I was in and out. Since I was a new client, I used their new client offer that can be found on their website. Nadia was so great that I transferred my new client savings as a my tip to her, because she did such a great job! And a few days later, I stand by my decision, because my hair lasted through one of the most stressful weeks (aka wildfires). So, Nadia, if you read this, thank you so much! Went for the first time yesterday after struggling to find a salon I can both trust an afford. I went with Nadia, a new talent. She did great. I love the color, and she actually listened to me when I asked for only 1 inch to be cut off, which is so important to me since I've always asked for 1-2 inches off an ended up with a minimum of 4 being cut. Renee did a great job on my color and the lash tinting. Renee was nice. Front staff were great and super friendly. The haircut is cute and I have received compliments but I feel like it was not what I had asked for, so that is my only complaint there. I came in with hair that was almost to my butt. I asked for about 5-6 inches off (around my bra strap) and ended up with hair that is barely past my shoulders. This might have been my fault if I was not exactly clear, but was hoping the picture I provided would have helped.I measured where it was at compared to now and that was about 8-9in. Hair grows back and I'll get over it, but wanted to provide my feedback as asked. Regarding charging just be aware that if you come in with extra extra long hair and leave with shoulder length you will be charged for the extra extra long haircut. I was only charged for the extra long tone and color because my hair was pre-cut to bra strap length.. so I did appreciate that. Other feedback I have is to wait for the water to get warm before using it on the client. It was absolutely freezing and I was told that it takes a little while to get warm after I yelped because it was ice cold. I was told to keep in a sit up position while she took out my foils.. I kinda joked about it being a core workout but pretty uncomfortable and the first time i've ever been asked to do this in a salon. read more

So today was my 3rd time coming to the salon. The first time I had a consultation with one of the stylists, this was about 3 months ago. I decided to wait and not color my hair because the product has ammonia in it. Well I guess the owner Renee was upset that her salon wasn't making money and so she gave me an attitude and said "well I guess I will have to call someone else to take your spot". I said, I came in for a consultation and that meant that I can refuse service right? Anyways, she changed me $15 and I left. I wasn't going to come back but I decided I would try to actually color my hair at the salon. I was greeted yesterday by another stylist, Renee wasn't there at the front desk which made me happy. Although the new stylist and I talked a lot about the color I wanted, she colored my hair much darker than my roots and my hair looks black. I cried the whole night and I wanted to remove the color right away. When I called the salon today, Renee picked up the phone and asked me what I wanted, if it was my money back and that she knew where this was going. I said I want my color corrected and I'm so unhappy with the color looking black. She said I'm sure the stylist did I good job but you can come in and I will see it. So I went to the salon and Renee called the stylist and we looked at my roots and compared them to my ends. The ends are lighter and they don't match. She literally grilled me and kept asking me "what did the stylist do wrong, how could she have expressed herself better." I'm sorry lady this is not a time to educated your stylist. I was left in tears with black hair. The stylist felt bad and washed my hair to supposable try to look lighter but it did barely anything to lighten the roots. I removed my previous negative review because I was trying to give rhem another chance but after today, I will never step foot and give them a penny. Renee made me feel so bad like I did something wrong when I told her that I wasn't happy with the color. She said we will not be color removing it and walked away as I started to cry. If you read this Renee. I'm sorry but this is not a court room where you have to prove who said what and who is right or wrong. The stylist should have fixed my hair. I'm happy I found another salon that actually did a color-fix and I don't have to deal with your anymore. I paid $200, you didn't do me a favor. This place does not even deserve one star. The Salon owner Renee is extremely rude/angry and already frustrated when you have just walked in through the door and havent even said a word. It feels like she is on some power trip and will kick you out for reasons that are in her head while you just stand there wondering what is actually happening when you have been nothing but kind. They will treat you as if they are doing you a favor by you giving them your money for the absolutely terrible service. I am tramaurized already by the few minute interaction I had. I had to say to her "are you upset?" Bc she seemed annoyed before even greeting me and it procceded throughout the consult and she kept hurling weird untrue insults at me for no reason. This is not a professional place. These high reviews are probably bought bc the place is always empty when I walk by it, and I see why!! Please save your money and spare yourself the extremely hurtful treatment by going anywhere else but here. Just a terrible place with horrible service and attitude all around for no reason! Not one redeeming factor. They don't deserve to carry even the cheapest product they carry bc they are giving the brand a bad name. This salon spa makes you feel super safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. They have temperature checks at the front door, hand sanitizer, and face shields. They all wear masks and socially distance when possible. I also enjoy my visits here because they make you feel like family. I believe they have pick up ordering, too, if you just need product. I started going blonde little by little until I decided to take the plunge completely. My hair is still healthy even after years of bleaching thanks to Allie adding treatments to preserve my hair. FIVE STARS FOR KELLY! I am new to the LA area and was recommended to Kelly due to her work in Santa Barbara. Through Kelly I found out about the Glendale salon and decided to make the drive out there from Culver City. Although it's a long drive, I will definitely be going back! Kelly took a lot of time talking to me so that she understood exactly what I wanted (I have been very unhappy with all of the stylists that highlighted my hair over the past year). She came up with a plan to fix my hair and even got a consultation from the salon owner to make sure that they agreed what was best. Kelly took her time to make sure that I was happy! She spent 2.5 hours with me and even curled my hair so that I could see how it would look (because that's the way I normally style myself). I could not be happier with the service I received! My hair looks 10x better than before and it is definitely the direction I wanted to go in. I also love that Kelly has late hours twice a week so you can still get in with her after work. She is also available on Saturdays which is super convenient. The salon overall is very cute and a great environment. I love Aveda products and they all take the time to teach you about how to best use them. The salon is also very upfront about prices, which is very refreshing. I decided to branch out of my normal salon and try Glendale Salonspa. I wanted to try a blonder balyage look like I have done many times before. When I arrived, I was assigned to stylist Renee. She immediately told me she would not be able to color me because my hair needed a cut and told me I would have to come back. But in fact, she was annoyed that I came later in the evening at 5:45 pm because of my work schedule. She made me feel like a nuisance and grabbed the ends of my hair pointing it to me in the mirror saying "look at this how can I color this". She made me feel like I had horrible hair which I do not. I have never had a problem with other hair salons, and no one has ever downgraded me like that. I immediately told her I was not interested and left to go somewhere else. I came here for a Brazilian Wax with Renee. I was brought into a warmly lit, tranquil waxing room and handed a warm towel to freshen myself before we started - a very nice touch. Unfortunately, the pleasant experience ended there. I'll first discuss her waxing technique. She used soft wax, which is much more painful in comparison to hard wax, and she used the same stick to apply the wax onto my body throughout the entire waxing. Double dipping is a big hygiene no-no. When she first applied the wax to my body, it was WAY TO HOT! I informed her about it, and she lowered the temperature. But towards the end of the waxing, I realized that she must have just turned the warmer off, because the wax had started to harden. Applying semi-hardened wax is difficult for the waxer and VERY PAINFUL for the waxee. I just closed my eyes, clenched my jaw, and waited for the experience finally be over. Now onto Renee as a waxer. Considering the uncomfortable nature of this waxing, it is the waxers job to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She was very cold, made little attempt to engage me in conversation, and made this already horrible waxing experience even worse. I was given another warm towel to clean myself off, and noticed that the waxing job was not even complete! I will never come back here for a waxing service. read more

Average massage service, bad customer service. The only reason I went to Glendale Salon and Spa was my Aveda Pure Privileges reward certificate for spa and salon services. The reason I was absolutely looking forward to today was I just ended a job that was stressful and I wanted to unwind and celebrate a job well done. I made my choice of spas available from the Aveda website and I chose my services from Glendale Salon and Spa's site. I scheduled a deep-tissue massage and facial from the massage services page, which totaled five dollars more than my certificate and when I scheduled the appointment I made a comment to the receptionist I was trying to get as close to the reward value as possible. The atmosphere in the salon and the private spa room sre as good as any of the best I've experienced, the staff was friendly, and the extras, such as ice cold H2O when I arrived were all welcomed. My disappointment started a few minutes in to my deep tissue massage. I said to Tamara she could press harder because the pressure at that point was very mild. She never acknowledge my request nor during the 90 minute service did she ask if the pressure was too much or too little. In fact when she asked me to turn over I was a bit shocked she wasn't going to work my back and legs more, because what she performed only felt like a warm-up compared to the deep tissue massages I 've received in the past. Being this was a day of relaxation I really wanted to let it go and just try and enjoy the bad new age relaxation music in the background. The massage I got felt no different than the one and only Sweedish massage I received and wasn't any better than when I was a guinea pig at a massage therapy school. The next service in my day was a facial and boy was it amazing. By the end I was happy with the day and made peace with the fact that the massage was average. The attention to detail and the quality of products made of the facial was top notch. Remember I had a gift certificate, so this day was supposed to cost me five dollars plus tip. When I went to leave the bill came to thirty dollars more than I expected. And the following is why I am really giving this place a bad review. What I based my selection on was the website and specifically the massage section. The total would have been five dollars more than my reward certificate, but since I did not ask for the facial by name the most expensive facial is what I got. When I seemed confused all the receptionist did was smiled, giggle a bit and said oops guess there was miscommunication. Then someone in the back asked, "Did you enjoy the massage?" And at that point all I wanted to do was get my hairspray and get out. While I was paying and expressing my disappointment about the bill another staff member handed me a one time use shampoo sample. Don't know if this was their way of making up, but been a loyal Aveda long enough to accumulate rewards points, which means I already have a shampoo from them I like. I left, checked the website on my way to the car and returned to show them the page I was referencing. At that point what appeared to be the manager said sorry we've already run the certificate and at that point she asked again if I like the massage and this time I told her no and left. The staff of Glendale Salon and Spa could use a lesson in customer service. They broke the number one rule, never let a customer leave angry. I hope they read this because it wasn't the money that was the issue. I was disappointed with the bad the customer service and lack of concern from the massage till I left for my wants. The saddest thing is, I wasted a couple of years of accumulating Aveda reward points on this average day. read more

Just not worth it. I spent $60 for what should have been a $30 haircut. My hair isn't too hard to cut, but it does take some thought - I want long layers on my fine hair. The woman who cut it never once pulled out the razor. Razoring is necessary to get hair like mine to look right. Instead, I ended up with graduated layers around my face that never blended properly. I waited a long time before I wrote my review, thinking the cut would somehow even out. Nope. I went someplace else downtown last week, and got an absolutely superb haircut for $45. I usually come here to get my eyebrows threaded. If you are wondering and have began questioning "Should I switch to threading from waxing?" I definitely think the answer is yes. Ani ALWAYS does my eyebrows, and I really don't trust anyone else. Threading costs $10, and is SO worth it. What I like about threading is that it is MUCH more precise, and you can really work into the natural shape of your eyebrows. It's a lot harder to "mess up" or take some hair out that wasn't supposed to come out because of the precision and the technique. Plus, when you get your eyebrows threaded it lasts longer than waxing. The only thing I kind of miss about waxing is it kind of felt good to me, the warmth of the wax was relaxing, threading is slightly more painful, but really not that much. Also I have gotten my hair cut here, and seriously best cut of my life. I had Tamara cut my hair and she always does a great job. The staff is very accommodating, will always ask if you would like some tea or coffee while you wait, and I always have a nice experience here. read more

Although the girl was nice, I inspected myself with a magnified mirror I noticed that most of the lashes were not glued securely at the base of the lash so most of them were dangling by mid lash. Other lashes were clumped together. This wasn't my first time getting them done so I know how well to take care of them to get the most bang for my buck. I'm really even considering NOT GOING BACK for my retouch that was included just cause i feel like I just want them all to fall off already and not get a mediocre job again. Maybe it all had to do with the type of lash (even though i asked the girl if they were synthetic or not but she didnt know) cause I've always had minx lashes put on and these felt synthetic but didn't look too bad just wish they were put on more precisely. im still very MEHHH about it. read more

I admit it. I'm normally a Supercuts guy. There. Now all of my cards are on the table. However, after engaging in a hair growing contest with my friends for the past five months (and winning, might I add) I figured it was tiime to man-up and get my hair done in a salon. Man-style. After finding GSS on Yelp, I scheduled a same day appointment and went on over. Now, never having my hair cut at any place charging more than $15, I was a little apprehensive about what it would cost and what I would talk about and what it would cost. Did I mention the cost? Fortunately for me, I really had nothing to worry about. Ani was really very accepting of my salon ignorance and explained everything to me as if I were a child - but not in a condescending way. Her work on my bird's nest of a head was fantastic and she also gives a great scalp and hand massage. People will now look me in the eye again and stop muttering about filthy hippies as I walk by. I've tried many hair stylists in the area before settling on Glendale Salon Spa as my favorite. It's an Aveda salon, so you know they adhere to a certain level of quality. The products are organic and leaves as little carbon footprint as possible, which is nice to know with all the shampoos and products. They have different levels and prince ranges for all their stylists. I personally go to Lina who charges about $60, but I think that went up a little as she was recently promoted. I don't mind, as she does an excellent job with my fine hair and her haircuts are really consistent. She is one of the few stylists who really listens to me and doesn't cut my hair shorter than I ask for! I go every few months to Renee for eyebrow waxing which I am always so pleased with. She does a great job and is really friendly. I also got a full leg wax here for my wedding and I felt it was a nice job. All the staff here are friendly and helpful. They are always great when I have questions regarding products or can recommend something to me based on my skin/hair needs. Be sure to bring cash for a tip and there's a small parking area in the back, but I find sometimes street paring is your best bet! read more

I'm very happy with the Glendale Salon Spa in general - I've been a customer for several years. I go to Ani and Heather for waxing and Tamara for hair. They're great! I agree with the comments on Renee and was somewhat relieved to read that others had similar experiences since as a long time customer, I'd taken it personally! My regular wasn't available for a bikini wax so I went with Renee and was left bruised by the rushed job and burned by too hot wax. Her mind wasn't on her work. Strange because otherwise she's very nice and does a great job running the salon. So, with that caveat, I endorse the work done by the rest of the women, wholeheartedly! read more

I have been in search for a good hairdresser for a while. I decided to check out this salon from the good reviews and yes i was very glad to have paid my visit. I had Lina and she was amazing. She knew exactly what i wanted and was very friendly. I felt so taken care of. They also gave me a free hand and arm massage which was nice. All of the staff there are very attentive and are very professional. I went in for a color and walked out feeling absolutely fabulous.
