I love the Globe deli. This little place is a mix of a small market with a deli counter. They carry a nice assortment of imported foods in the market section, and there is a selection of hot and cold food choices offered in the deli. This is a place where you find items that are hard to find elsewhere. I shop at the Globe because they carry a German mustard that I cannot live without. Their smoked bratwurst is yummy, and so is the homemade sauerkraut (I buy the brats and sauerkraut to make a "One-pot Octoberfest" recipe from Whole Foods that is deeeelish!!). The pickled eggs rock. They are kind enough to let you have a taste of the prepared foods so that you can decide what you want to purchase. I usually time my shopping around lunch so that I can pick up a homemade sandwich while I'm there. This little place isn't cheap, but I don't shop in mom-and-pop stores for rock bottom prices. I visit the Globe for great service, and to purchase some staples that I only buy there. The parking where Globe is located can be challenging during the lunch hour, and there may be a line at the deli counter. Visit when you are not rushed and you have the time to appreciate this unique place that's been a part of Costa Mesa for many years. read more

Came in here on a recommendation from a stranger and it did not disappoint. The owner was in there super friendly and nice. Offered to show me some of their authentic german beer. Ran into my sons buddy Sam here. Almost walked right past him, because I was so distracted by the elderly lady with a giant poodle sitting right in the places tiny seating area. She spoke with an accent that made me think that maybe the potato salad here reminds her of her childhood at the Lebensborn home. We were very happy finding this place today (^-^)!!! Szeget Salami, Sausages(Bockwust,Blatwust), Liverwurst Paste, Sauerkraut,Poteto salada,Sarotti Katzenzungen Chocolate, Ritter Rum Rasins Hazel Nuts Chocolate,etc. Everything very good. The owner husband and wife I guess, were very friendly and helpful. He even especially sliced the salami very thin although it takes very long time and not possible doing that during lunch time, but only at the least busy time.  The thin slice did make a big difference on the taste adding more flavor and nice bite feeling.  But I don't want to bother him spending that much time and labor, so I am thinking buying the meat slicer, so I can slice salamis, hams, cheeses, in my home myself. The poteto salada has nice taste never had before in American poteto saladas. I asked why cats on the chocolate,the answer was the shape of the chocolate is like cat's tongue. The Rum Hazel nut chocolate really taste good. You can eat lunch at their small tables too.  I am looking forward eating sandwiches or Goulash soup next time. read more

Called in an order and went to a sign that said "phone orders line up here" and was ignored. had to get back in line of people waiting to order to be helped. A buddy of mine raves about this place so I went to check it out. BEST REUBEN EVER. One of my favorite sandwiches now, and I eat a lot of them haha. Service is always so friendly and great, I'd say the only downside is at peak times it can take quite a bit, but it's well worth your wait. Pretty big sandwich as well so come hungry. REUBEN.... just repeat that mantra as you come in here. make sure you get the sauerkraut as well. grab a good hefeweizen or witbier from the shelf o' beverages. then go home and go to town. seriously, this is the first place at which i ordered the fabled reuben sandwich. corned beef, sauerkraut, russian/thousand island dressing, swiss, all on delicious toasted rye bread. such a weird combination of stuff, but it's ridiculously good. the reuben is now my go-to sandwich, and the globe is my place to get it. in addition to the sandwiches, you can also pick up random german stuff, like der spiegel, curry ketchup, and other such things. you should visit at least once just to marvel at the skill with which they rendered this corner of costa mesa teutonic. to top it off, they sell geese! for eating! next time i'm in the mood to blow a paycheck, i know what i'm getting. read more

my last name is orndorff. i am german and thus must check out every german restaurant, pub, deli i can find to support my heritage. this is a cute little shop located in a strip mall. you walk in and they have a wide variety of european treats, a lot seemed like items you couldn't find elsewhere. i settled on the reuben sandwich and settled in at the bench by the window. lots of fresh meat in this sandwich, bread was tasty without too much grease slathered on the outside. and to top it off a crunchy pickle :) i want to go back and try some of the authentic german beers they carry! read more

I cannot say enough about this place! First off, Jason (the owner) is one of the most kind and genuine people you'll ever meet. He asked me for my name, and then remembered me the next time I came in 2 weeks later. He has extensive knowledge about every single product they sell, and is willing to educate you on it! So helpful - especially when you're unsure of what you want off the menu, or what pairs well with a dish. On top of that, the food is outstanding! I've never had a meal that I didn't love! This is probably the best place to eat in Costa Mesa. As a local I go to many gems that doesn't get a lot of social media coverage this is my new favorite gem in Costa Mesa. Jason & Buffy are super friendly and give recommendations on what to pair German beers with different sandwiches. Their soups! OMG they are made from scratch and sell out quickly. Cold weather makes people want to have soup. Their split pea is so hearty. Big chunks of ham and just the right amount of spices will make your heart sing with pleasure. Their German Chicken noodle is made with fennel, cabbage and (2) different kinds of noodles. Their small grocery area is perfect to pick up a few items while waiting for your food. Plus their meat, sausage, and cheeses are displayed in the deli case and will cut slices thick or thin are your request. The make their own German breads, without preservatives so you either have to eat it quickly or freeze it for future enjoyment. Was getting my car fixed at Southcoast and walked over here - so glad I did! I ordered a couple of different sausages plus some sauerkraut. I cooked it at home and loved it all! This place isn't a dining hall. It's a quaint little shop that sells a wide variety of European products, and a wonderful selection of European, especially German meats and garnishing. They do server up lunch, and have one small table for two, and a bar that seats 5. Again, quaint little shop, don't try to take your whole family here then complain about the size. Came here for a quick lunch with my Dad and coworker and boy was I surprised. A wonderfully cheery staff greets you, and even more wonderfully tasting food awaits your palette. I had the bratwurst special that comes with sauerkraut, a large buttered roll, and one of a few options for potato salads. I believe it was around $9 for myself. I chose the "German" style potato salad which had bacon and vinegar. Very tasty! The bratwurst was great in taste, but for myself, it was too small in size, but that's fine, it's just how they do it. My favorite part of the dish wasn't the bratwurst or potato salad, it was the sauerkraut. Warm and freshly cooked with mushrooms, it complimented the entire meal perfectly, and I ate around it saving it for last, to savor it's wonderful taste. This is a perfect place to get a quick lunch or stock up on your deli meats. They also carry fish roe paste which is another favorite of mine. If you are a fish person and haven't tried this, it's a must have! I wish there were an extra star I could give because I had nothing but good vibes in this place. If the street outside didn't look like Costa Mesa I would have confused it for being in Europe! read more

I'd driven by here for years and while driving down Harbor wondering what to eat......I saw the Globe. So we stopped in. I got the cold cut and the gfriend got the Tunafish. She didn't particularly care for hers, she just thought it was pretty ordinary....Mine was good......but just seemed lacking something......I think onions maybe. But I'll come back and try them again. It was better than say going to Subway. I want to like this place. It's cute, it's small and the woman behind the counter was nice. Came for the food and stayed for the conversation :) my husband and I had just finished getting a Thai massage Next door and we noticed this deli so we stopped in to check it out. We were immediately warmly greeted by who we came to find out was the new owner. He was seriously so friendly and nice. He gave us samples and helped us decide what to get and then we totally ended up just chatting it up with him while waiting. The tuna sandwich is what we decided to share which was so delicious and the rye bread is incredible and also available for purchase by the loaf. We also got the German potato salad which we both really liked. I've never met a friendlier and genuine business owner. We ended up talking after our meal too and we wish him all the success in taking over this business. It's people like this who make you want to return and really root for. I will stop by Globe Deli when I work in the area as they have some of the best real deli sandwiches available. I was just in town for two days and had an associate working with me and had to bring him by Globe. Found out they are under new ownership. This place has been around for forever and has changed hands a few time. Glad to see they are keeping with the German and European style. Yes, the store is a little slimmer now with inventory, but way more organized, clean and the food is still epic.
