Fairly delicious brat for $8.50, but when asked if I wanted sauerkraut and onions, I didn't expect it to be over $13.00. Maybe a scoop of potato salad or pickle on the side would've made it worthwhile. The only problem was that you couldn't tell if there was any sauerkraut underneath the onions. It tasted as if they might have been grilled together. No distinct layer of sauerkraut, and that made it too expensive for my taste. read more

Best Roast Beef Sandwich! I ordered one all the time and enjoy each time. The Roast Beef is made in house. Perfect amount of seasoning and far from salty! Came in today to pick up sausages (Brats and Bats), potato salad, red cabbage and sauerkraut for 4th BBQ. Their salads are excellent. They have four potato salads to choose from and all are great. Also picked up some German Mustard and a few beers. Excellent selection of Beers not to mention three on tap for dine in enjoyment. Staff is friendly and great, especially the owner. read more

If you want by far the best sandwiches and meats this is the place to be coming to all the time, and here's why.... No matter what you order this place is just phenomenal and everything is great about it. I used to come here over five years ago when I lived in Newport and now that I moved back I will definitely be coming here a lot more often. I walked in today and met the owner Sean. Extremely cool guy and clearly someone who really understands great food. We started talking and he told me the reason he even bought the place was because the first time he ever came here he ordered the roast beef and was so impressed he ended up buying the restaurant. After hearing that I had to try it! The roast beef sandwich comes with lettuce, onion, tomato, mustard and mayo with your choice of cheese and bread. The meat is piled high and is super tender and moist, and everything tastes fresh. Simple and done right and that's exactly why it works. Next was the Reuben. Corned beef with melted Swiss, sauerkraut and Russian dressing on toasted marble rye. This one is loaded and perfectly balanced. Warm, melty and full of flavor with the bread toasted just enough to hold it together. Honestly one of the best Reubens I've had. Then there's the hot German potato salad. Warm potatoes with a vinegar bite that gives it a really distinct flavor and it was amazing alongside the sandwiches. I love when owners are passionate about their places. I came here io a friend's recommendation. It was a very happy thing having a friend recommend this charming and delicious spot. I would never have found it on my own. I have driven by it at least 300 times without ever noticing the Globe Deli. This humble strip mall location hides a real jewel of a deli. My best buddy loves German food, he will drive a good distance to find his favorite food. He checked out the menu on Yelp and immediately knew what we were ordering for lunch on Wednesday. Rouladen, beef stuffed and rolled and slow cooked and served to me in the middle of a lake of the most delicious gravy. The service was sturdy and friendly and efficient. I had an RC cola with lunch, but they have plenty of German Beer. I used a spoon scrape the last of the gravy into my mouth. Stumbled across great reviews on Google and Yelp and decided to try it out. One of the Best decisions we made about food this entire trip. The guys were very helpful on helping us decide what to try. We were torn between the Reuben (which looked delicious), the sausage sampler. Since my hubby and I were sharing they suggested the Big Schnitzel Sandwich. When it came out we were shocked how big it was. It looked amazing and after eating it - it was amazing! The schnitzel was cooked perfectly - moist on the inside- the bread was tasty and all the condiments they put on it were fantastic. If we are ever back in this area, will definitely be back. It's a big bummer how you hope the place would blow you out of the water when you see such glowing reviews, especially when you plan your day to drive from south county to give the deli a try. The family and I were hoping that we'd be able to try their reuben that was one of their fortes. If you have the chance, look at some of the other lower reviews where they talked about the lack of warmth and inviting vibes the deli has was spot on. Cold and devoid. We arrived there a few minutes after 4 o clock, and this older gentleman behind the counter dismissively said that the kitchen closes at 4pm with no additional follow up. Weird, but okay. One thing we both noticed was we got looked up and down by this person like we were getting measured up. Huh. After leaving that lackluster conversation with this gentleman, I asked my wife afterwards if we got refused because of race and she said she got a weird vibe from this poor interaction. Check. We both agreed that with this poor interaction, even if the food were good, we won't bother trying ever again. Hope this review helps the rest of you! This place used to be amazing and easy 5/5. The food was top notch, and Jason and Megan were to best (I know Jason needed a break so hoping the best for him). When we went, the new owner was cold and dismissive (essentially measuring us), but when any new non minority came in, he would bubble up with all the pleasantries. Popped in after getting coffee and the guys behind the counter were chatting it up with a woman like she was a celebrity and when I went to order their demeanor changed completely. Is it bc I am a Mexican ordering German ? Very weird vibe, like he didn't want to serve me, didn't say thank you and was not at all engagjng. Cases are old, empty and the entire place is dated. I walked into globe deli because I saw that they had a sign for German beer outside. My husband really likes German beer so I decided to pick him up a few bottle. The selection was small, and the deli was very quaint however, the service when I walked in, they looked at me as if I was an alien. They were probably like what is this brown Mexican girl doing in here hahaha! Just kidding the service was not that warm or inviting, but I just went and got what I needed and got out. I came here by chance after seeing it while walking around, looking for food, while getting my car serviced. It seems like the kind of hole-in-the-wall place where everyone knows each other, and most of the customers are repeat customers. I felt like I didn't really fit in with the customer base, but that's my own problem Ambiance was interesting, seems like most people are here to drink and chat. It's pretty small so tables can be hard to find since people seem to stick around a little while. Staff was very nice and friendly! They seemed very comfortable and knowledgeable here. Since the pretzels seemed popular, I wanted to try it. I'm not a fan of mustard so I asked for no mustard. It was really salty without it so I probably wouldn't recommend doing that--I imagine the mustard balances out the flavors pretty well. The sandwich was not bad, but not my personal cup of tea. Overall, the food here is great, but just not my personal flavor palette. I brought the food home for my partner, though, and he fell in love with the food and says he needs to come try it out for himself. read more

How has this place been kept such a secret!? My first time stopping by to get a sandwich. It was hard to decide, but I ended up with a French Dip (which was delicious). Lots of great flavors and just the right touch of horseradish and big enough to share. The bread makes the sandwich IMHO and it did not disappoint. Had I been able to eat it right away it would have been even better, but I had groceries in the car. I look forward to going back and trying some other things. Parking lot was crazy at 2pm on a Friday... first sign things are happening here, some guy with a giant black truck was parked in two spots... Located in a strip mall off Harbor Boulevard and blocks away from Triangle Square in Costa Mesa, Globe European Delicatessan is a family owned and operated German deli offering sandwiches, sausages, hot meals, beer and German Specialty goods. My wife's colleague recommended it and I am so grateful he did! I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it was quite possibly one of the best I have ever had. Also added a side of the German Potato Salad which interestingly enough is served hot and a Paulaner Pilsner that was smooth and light to wash everything down. Yum, yum!! PRO TIP: They no longer serve pickles standard with sandwich orders since costs have increased and too many customers have tossed them out (so wasteful!). If you like pickles, you'll need to ask for one which they provide with sandwich orders at no additional charge. Upon arrival, Buffy answered our menu questions and took our order. This place is fantastic. Definitely a local spot. I took my brother from out of town here and he recommended it to every person we visited afterwards. His girlfriend even said she would move to CA for their sandwiches and the coffee from the place next door. We got the beef dip, the Ruben, and the Philly cheese steak.
