If you make a sandwich and you are a specialty store it better be damn good or something that makes me remember you. The pastrami I ordered was on par but nothing special. There are a couple novelty specialty items like a good selection of international mustard, but all in all I was not to impressed. The most delicious cold cut sandwhich around town! I live walking distance to this place and didn't discover it until I was walking out of the Chaba Thai Massage spa right down the way. After I had the cold cut sandwhich on a roll- i coudn't stop thinking about it and came back the same week for 2nds. My friend had a turkey sandwhich on wheat and it wasn't comprable to the cold cut. This review is strictly for this place as a "business". I went there today only to find that it was closed due to a family emergency which they indicated on a small sign. The sign said they will be closed for "awhile". As a business, they should have posted this on their Facebook page or something as a courtesy to their customers. I came across this German deli by accident when I visited the pupusa restaurant nearby. I bought a bottle of German beer and a variety of chocolate bars. The beer tastes so earthly and flavorful. The chocolates were out of this world. And the deli owner Jason was super friendly and helpful. What a wonderful discovery! This deli is a gem. This place rocks!!! I love the great selection of world foods, snacks, sweets, beers and more! Its almost like being in a store oversee's with all the goodies that are available!! The deli itself is very very good, cheap prices for food, freshly made in front of you and I would have to say always a tasty experience :) I always go in there for the corned beef sandwhich and always have a smile on my face after I finish eating it... very delicious, fresh :) The service also is very very good, kind employees, very helpful and knowledgeable about there products and overall a good feeling when you enter the store. Really unique, small family-run business with wonderful service and expert knowledge of German sausages and cheeses.

I happened to drive by, notice the sign, & stopped in on 1/11/18. I immediately met a very pleasant & welcoming Jason. As he sliced butterkaese, muenster cheese & leberkaese (all excellent), he gave me samples to taste...like the German butchers did. How delightful! He told me he, too, had lived in Germany. Jason also gave me a sample taste of a delish red-skinned sausage (will return for more!). Plan to return for the homemade beef rouladen. They have a few hot dishes, sandwiches, cold cuts, homemade potatoe salads, cheeses, breads, packaged goods, etc. Jason advised me the lady chef in the kitchen has been there 17 years! I also bought a bottle of Maggi & their homemade sauerkraut that has bits of meat in it (they have another w/o meat). When I warmed up the kraut, it was mellow & not too vinegary...authentic, excellent flavor! Jason explained he & his partner have only been owners for a few weeks, their inventory is low but will improve over time, & they have great plans for the place. I must echo the sentiments offered in William J's review. i went along today for a late lunch and ordered the fresh bratwurst with german potato salad on the side. i'm guessing the sausage itself had been prepared and cased earlier in the day, so delicate was the texture and full flavoured to taste. it was fried so that the outside and end had some slight crisp to it, and the inside, when prodded with a fork, released delicious juices, and was cooked perfectly succulent, with the slightest hint of pink. there are also a selection of further german and central european sausages on display but the fresh bratwurst looks and no doubt tastes the best. The Sauerkraut has a not-too-bitter vinegary taste, and also meaty notes provided by the chunks of hungarian sausage specks in the mix, which complement the cool starchiness of the salad. at $9 this is a steal. my companion ordered a havarti and salami sandwich on rye. the amount of salami is generous, over-generous i'd argue, as my girlfriend had to remove some slices just to fit the sandwich in her mouth! There are also a wide array of german speciality and imported products. try to schokocola caffeine-energy-chocolate in the red and white round tin. a solid alternative to early morning coffee. read more

Went in for a quick sandwich on my lunch, the girl who helped me was very short and not polite. I asked for salt and pepper on my sandwich and was told they had packets on the side. While I waited and watched the girl NOT find packets I stared at the 2 shakers right above where they make the sandwiches. I don't know why this employee had to make me getting lunch difficult, but I definitely left this place with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Nice selection of cold-cuts and German sausages. Sadly, not all of the servers use food-safety gloves consistently and consider doing so a "courtesy" rather than a hygienic must. Selection of European packaged food (sauces, Spaetzle, tins) is good buy overpriced (compared to high-end grocery stores), and in two instances beyond expiration date. German beer selection is well-cared for, but pricey, too. Will have visited store twice: a first and a last time. read more

What a fun discovery of an old business! It was like walking into a little piece of Germany! They have all sorts of German imported foods and magazines and a lovely selection of fresh sausage, cheese, etc. I love trying new foods so bought some QUARK Soft Cheese. Sad to say, Randy & Michelle will be greatly missed. The business has been sold, and lacks everything. This was my staple for over 25 years, when in the neighborhood to gather my international staples and have lunch or dinner. You are now faced with the very angry unpleasant man behind the counter, who doesn't know the first thing about customer service and manners for being in the food industry. Not knowing it was sold, I ordered my usual. I was spending a lot of time at South Coast Toyota buying a car. Ordered by phone, and needing to get back, I didn't check my order. At the dealership I realized the order was upside down and most of the hot food had spilled into the bag. The normal serving of bread and red cabbage was also missing. Out of curiosity, I called, and the very nice lady whom I'm sure didn't last told me to come back in when in the neighborhood and they would take care of me. Thinking I would have lunch and shop for items to-day, I went in while my car was being checked since I'm rarely in that area. The new owner, after my introduction, said he inspected my previous order himself, and all was fine with it. Funny he didn't notice the missing bread or red cabbage that he agreed was included. I said, did I waste my time coming here on the invitation from the phone conversation? He said I guess you did. I mentioned there were consequences for lack of customer service. He said there is also for lying. So I guess now I'm a liar. He then with his SHORT FUSE order me out of the store. He came at me from behind the counter and was about to touch me when I warned him he better not. He said he would call the police, which I agreed was a good idea. Did I mention, this is over goulash!! On the phone, in front of the only two clients at noon, he referred to me intentionally as older with grey hair. I'm a blonde. Police arrived, and suggested I go to yelp, since it was a civil matter. So I'm taking the time. I apologized for the fact that they probably had much more important things to attend to. They were so nice to me, and I'm happy they came. One other man commented about the fact that Randy the previous owner was no longer there. The shelves are bare, and the sweet girls behind the counter are gone. The community lost a great deli. I just believe that people need to be aware of his capability. He has a Police banner hanging in the store now, and I'm not sure what that means. On picking up my car, my guy at South Coast Toyota said they don't go there anymore either. He sent me across the street to a delightful casual Italian restaurant, where the service and food was delicious. I will gladly return. Bare in mind, that Reviews that you read are probably from the previous experiences. All over being invited back to be taken care of. Well, I guess he did that! read more

A pretty-good German deli. I'm from Chicago, where we had outstanding German food, and I travel in Germany quite a bit, so my standards are pretty high. We stopped by for some lunch, some bratwurst, and some brotchen. First the lunch. I had the bratwurst plate. The bratwurst itself was okay, but nothing special. A cut above the packaged stuff in the supermarket, but not as good as what we are used to. The sauerkraut was good, and so was the german potato salad. However, the potato salad was served American style--cold. The brotchen for the bratwurst was oversized--it really was more like a half-baguette, rather than an authentic brotchen. Also, the deli has no on-premises beer license, so it's water or soda with lunch. We picked up a few bratwurst to take home, but we passed on the brotchen--I can get a baguette at the grocery store. All in all, not a bad place to get German food, and pretty much on-par with other establishments in Orange County. read more

usually come here to get some salami. good for that, and also delicious frankfurter sausages. but this review concerns my last visit here though, and their (lack) of customer service. so...they changed their hours on the day before thanksgiving and closed at 4pm. ok...didn't know that. I arrived at 4:01pm, and found all chairs up and the door locked. Seeing all the chairs up and everything locked up one minute after closing...they clearly closed early. the owner saw me (and another customer...old german lady) looking inside trying to see what's going on, and he was just ignoring us. very unfortunate. I understand i got there right at closing time, but I would expect more consideration...especially from a small business like that. clearly my regular business is not worth their time...or an extra 5 minutes, and consequently my business will be put on hold for now!! read more

My husband and I have been coming here for years to stock up on our favorites that aren't available locally but were somewhat put off by the last owner as he always seemed rather impatient and crabby (his wfe was nice). The new owners are great! I've learned to call ahead before we make trip from San Clemente to make sure what we want is in stock before we make the trip and the new owner offered to grind fresh tartare to have ready for us when we got there. He even asked if it was ground the way we like it. Very pleasant and friendly! They also held the last loaf of kommiss brot for us. A nice surprise was, at last, a very nice woman who speaks German now works there. My German husband was delighted to have someone who actually speaks the language in a German deli lol. As I recall, the previous folks did not. Same menu and recipes so we had a delicious lunch while we were there. It's smallish on the grocery side but has everything we need and the deli is perfect. Try the red cabbage. Yum, as good as homemade! We will be making the trip more often! read more
