I was excited to go to Gloss, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. You can pick your tech when you book online. I picked the tech a friend uses, and I am not sure if she was the owner? By the time I arrived, they switched the tech on me. I didn't get the girl's name? She did not introduce herself. At 10 am, there were lots of clients there already, then a parade of techs came out with little trays while wearing prom dresses and high heels. It is was a bit odd. I really felt out of place. My pedicure was average. I did not realize that one toe was smudged and there was polish on my skin. It chipped badly the next day and continued to chip throughout my vacation. I am very careful, and can get a month out of a pedicure. I used their polish, which was a big mistake. I usually bring my own. The gel mani was OK. I asked for a specific design and sent it in via email to make sure they could duplicate it. It was wonky and crooked and another lady had to do the designs. It looked nothing like the picture. The tech doing the designs kept answering phones and stopped working on me 4 times. It was annoying and poor customer service. The whole process took 2.5 hours, which is pretty slow. I didn't have a great experience, and it is double the price of my usual place. Should have gone to my usual place. I wont be going back. read more

I've been to gloss a few times but I never did a review for them. I usually don't remember their names either. Sometimes I book online but I end up not getting the nail technician that I requested. I went today and I requested ivy, but i ended up getting Rachel. I have no complaints for rachel really her service was very well. The last time I went, I had Karen as my nail technician and she was also very nice too and she seemed like she really cared about her precision with painting my nails and making sure everything came out tip top. Overall, gloss is a very good place to get ur nails done, the nail technicians there are all very precise with their work. I highly recommend. If anyone wanted to book an appointment there but didn't know who to ask for I suggest rachel, Karen, linh, and Hanna. I've had all those technicians before. But no matter who does your nails there I think they are all well trained and do good jobs, you don't have to worry about leaving with crappy nails. read more

The spa is clean, the technician is efficient - and unlike others who have reviewed, she asks before using nail clippers. Color choice is fine for me. I rated 4/5 because of funky step up for pedicure (it's not a deal-breaker for me) and while clean and bright, it's not trying to be some super-lux hotel spa. I'm always careful about which nail salons to go to after I had a bad experience. Friend recommended this place and I'm in love. SUPER clean - they don't do any tips or anything in order to preserve the cleanliness. I get in for a gel removal and manicure and am out in under 40 minutes, which is another reason I love this place. It's bright, super clean, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and talented. I almost always have Ivy and she's been my go to for awhile - my pedi's last months and my gels last at least 2 weeks. I had my first appointment at Gloss on a Saturday around noon in the early summer, with Lily. I arrived 10 minutes early and was brought to my pedicure station on time despite them being extremely busy. It took me 10 minutes to find a parking spot though and I could only find 1 hour parking, so I was immediately rushed and so I informed Lily that I had ~48 minutes until I had to leave. Keep that in mind during my review as my pedicure could have been rushed due to that. When it came time for my appointment they asked whether I wanted water or Diet Coke which is a very nice service experience. The tub seemed a bit dirty and stained even though they sterilize it between customers. I typically see plastic materials over the sinks of the facilities I go to but I'm sure this is easier cleanup. Their instruments are wrapped up like you're in a doctors office so you know it's clean. The seats were difficult to get into so if you want to bring a child or even someone shorter than 5'4" you may want to consider another nail salon as their legs won't reach the tub! The actual pedicure was enjoyable and they got the excess skin and callouses off, however I would have wanted a bit more work done- perhaps my time constraint was the issue. The polish selection is remarkable and the people are very kind. I may be back, but I much prefer MiniLuxe for the higher quality work and a fancier feel. I don't indulge in manicures or pedicures frequently so the cost isn't very prohibitive. However for $30 this pedicure was a steal for sure and I do recommend it if you're a penny pincher like myself looking for a nice looking salon with a cool atmosphere. To take this from 4 to 5 stars I'd say parking and the shaping of my nails would be necessary improvements. read more

I visited Gloss for the first time last week. After seeing the great reviews on Yelp, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, they were a little too high. I live right down the street and have been looking for a local place to get my gel manicures and pedicures. I made an appointment for the manicure and polish change on my feet since I had just had a pedicure the week before. The salon is very pretty, spacious and clean. The front desk staff are super friendly. Unfortunately, the nail tech I had was not. She appeared to be a young girl who would have rather have been at the dentist getting a root canal than doing my nails. She was not friendly at all. She put three coats of color on my nails because she had a hard time covering, which has led to them being super thick and the polish has completely peeled off less than a week after my manicure. When it was time to get my toes polished, since I had never been there before, it would have been nice if she walked me over to the pedicure section and told me where to sit instead of just expecting me to know where to sit on my own and looking very frustrated as though I was wasting her time. The toes looked fine but definitely NOT worth $12 for a polish change. My entire service cost $42. I have been to nail salons far more superior that are $40 for a gel manicure AND a pedicure. The other technicians there seemed to be more engaged with their clients and I'm assuming I just got stuck with the pissed off employee that day. Even so, I gave her a generous tip. When I was leaving she walked by me without even acknowledging my existence. Unfortunately, because her service sucked, I won't be back. read more

Absolutely wonderful!! My mother and I went for a herbal pedicure and a manicure. From the moment we were entered and were warmly greeted by the owner, to Linh's excellent color recommendations, to the comfortable seats in which we received luxurious aromatic foot massages, the experience was positively lovely. Linh and Lee did an impeccable job and were kind, friendly, thorough and considerate. The business is owned by a family who has owned, improved and sold two nail salons previously, so they know what they're doing! The facility is very modern, well decorated, and has a pleasant ambiance. I felt pampered and relaxed, and the prices were very reasonable! I wonder if the three negative reviewers went together and were all having a bad day, because this place was excellent, very clean (Linh made a point of mentioning how they insure sterility of their instruments) and professional. I normally pay 30 for a mani pedi at my salon down the street but I was in the mood for something more spa-like and high end. Had to update my old review based on a recent visit. Had my first gel manicure done 2 days before my wedding, and decided to come back to Gloss to have it done after having several manicures here before. I was told the gel manicure would last up to 2 weeks- perfect, I thought. However, after I left, I noticed a weird ripple in polish on one of my thumbs. That night in the shower, my hair was getting caught in my nail polish close to the cuticles. The gel manicure ended up lasting me no more than 2 days before half of it was peeling off, and it was completely peeled off my nails no more than 4 days after the manicure. The online booking is a breeze, you almost never have to wait, and my gel polish lasts the full 2 weeks and then some if necessary. Appointments are definitely necessary (they are always packed!). My Linh, I love you!! My is a perfectionist. She's my perfectionist. A little background about me, I've had acrylics on my nails for over 15 years and it was time to grow out of my 90's style. All my former places didn't want to work with me to get them off so I could have my natural nails back in a healthy way...I was just looking for options really. One even said my nails wouldn't look right with the acrylics off. What?!?! So I made my first "fill" appointment with My, and we discussed a customized plan to keep the acrylics on for a few fills to allow my natural nails below (I'm a picker....cuticle, under the acrylic....if I can find a way to peel or pick I will...and yes I know it's totally gross, sorry if I grossed you out). So for a month and a 1/2 or so I did good. I've since come a long way! Thanks to my mentor Mya! Then came the day when the birds were chirping and choirs were singing and it was time for the acrylics to come off so I made my shellac appointment. I was paranoid about having little nub nails so I asked her not to focus on filing all one length as some were pretty long and I would have thought it would be a waste to trim those down (and have all my hard work go to waste? Little did I know what I asked for was completely wrong. But what do you expect from a real nail newbie? So after 2 shellacs, My My :) suggestion filing all one length and shape and as she did this to my mismatched nails, I watched this genius at work and the miracle that was happening right before my very eyes. I've never, in my 30-ish something years have had my REAL nails look so good!! I still have a little way to go with strengthening and a few others that need to grow a bit to catch up with the others. But I'm on cloud nine right now!!! AND I can knock this off my bucket list!!! Yippeee!!!!! I left tonight in a candy apple red color I never in a million years would think of putting on my fingers (ever). My cuticles are no longer dry and ragged, the shape is beautiful and they look so good I don't want to pick. Unless it's loose shellac which I'm slowly finding the willpower not to because I really want my nails to be healthy and not shredded. I can't say enough about My, she truly is a perfectionist and knows her stuff, more so that anyone else I've ever been to. And I've been to many (dozens, or more). Her sister Linh gave me a nice long pedicure a couple weeks ago and I probably could have gone ice-skating on my bare feet. Seriously, she's that good!!!! The cost is reasonable just be sure to bring cash for tips. Their tools are hygienic and cleaned AND sealed in some medical wrap for each use (not sure about you but that puts me at ease). Just got back from a full leg waxing at Gloss. I was a bit apprehensive going in since all of the other reviews are for nail services. No reason to worry. Mimi was pleasant and thorough. The room was clean and comfortable, warm enough. The wax she used didn't stick to the skin too much; one of the more comfortable waxes I've had. Relaxing music playing but not super cheesy and New Age-y like other spas. All of the people working there seemed really nice. Cost was $60 for full leg (and by full, I mean to the edge of the underwear, not just 3/4 of the way up the thigh like some places I've been). Keep in mind, you cannot put the tip on your credit card. Cash only (?check) for the tip. The guy at the front desk was very nice about me running out to the ATM to get money for tip. I've been getting my nails done in total for about 12 years now with the occasion of a 'special treat' on my birthdays when I was much younger. I think most of us can agree, its extremely difficult to find a nail salon that will keep you consistently coming in. In my case for a long time, it was wherever was most convenient-I'm also a very picky person about my nails! When Gloss first opened up in Melrose I drove by a few times on my way to and from work. I couldn't believe how simple and serene it looked from the windows. It has an elegant and very different style than most salons don't have. For a while I even figured it was most likely out of my price range. However just once after treating myself, I have continued to ONLY go to Gloss for almost three years now. At Gloss, you get affordable yet luxury treatment. I go every two weeks for a gel manicure and even with being an avid gym goer, cooking, cleaning, daily routines, etc, my gel manicure lasts a full two weeks- and probably more if I let it. I have also been for pedicures (the spa pedicure is literally to die for, you won't get this kind of treatment anywhere else) and various waxing- all of which I have high remarks for. Not to mention how easy it is to book appointments online. If I can't find the time I need, all I have to do is call and they can almost always accommodate me. I don't have a specific technician I go to every time because every Gloss employee is highly professional, personable, clean and most importantly, fantastic at doing my nails. I have yet to have a bad experience with any one of them and after three years, I've most likely had an appointment with almost everyone. Every time I enter Gloss I feel relaxed and more importantly, comfortable. Knowing that I will have great conversation, that the tools are clean and I can count on outstanding service is a good feeling and keeps me coming back. I've read some of the lower star reviews and honestly, I can't figure out how it is even possible to give Gloss a bad review. This is one of the best salon experiences I have had in a long time! After being immediatly welcomed by the owner I was given a brief introduction to the salon. The space is impeccable - bright and clean. The owner and her husband (?) who runs the front desk called me by my first name during the entire visit. I am very particular about my customer service experience - and I was consistently impressed! Second note - I am in the floral business and my hands are in water all day long. A manicure usually last 2 days max during the work week. I am typing this reveiw 8 days after my manicure will still gorgeous nails that have JUST started to chip. Seriously impressed.
