On a whim, my daughter and I decided to get our nails done and we had driven by Gloss many, many, many times and today, it just so happened that there was spot right out front, so in we went to see if they could take us for a walk in classic manicure. Lucky for us, they were able to get us in and we quickly selected our colors and in the chairs we went. I was struck by how clean, neat and orderly everything was. Our techs, Hannah and Justine were very friendly and were quick! We typically get mani-pedis that take a while so just giving some love to the hands went by quickly! $15 each was a pretty good deal. All in all, we were in and out in 25 minutes (including drying time). Next time, we will use the on line booking tool - which looked really convenient. It is billed as a lounge and they definitely have that lounge vibe. Very spacious - good for big groups for sure. Would go back for a basic manicure for sure! This is a great place.. like many reviewers stated: roomy, clean, bright, etc. It was beautiful. The music was very nice and relaxing. There was not a whole lot of noise. I actually stopped in around 1ish on a Thursday afternoon so I was definitely lucky there was absolutely no wait and only two other people in the salon. I got a pedi and eyebrow/lip waxing. The woman doing the eyebrow/lip was super UNfriendly! She told me my eyebrows were uneven.. which even though I had not done them myself, I felt a bit insecure. She was really fast and didn't even introduce herself or make me feel very comfortable. This is one of the reasons I only gave four stars. My pedi was amazing, but the woman doing it did not get my ingrown toenail. It wasn't a bad one, but it would have been nice to take care of this. It was very quick, although it was a nice treatment overall. It is very unique in that the stations are on a long couch sort of platform with pillows. It's really nice. Gloss is by far the best nail salon I have ever been to. I have been a religious Gloss customer for over a year now and I will go nowhere else. Every single person that works there is kind, respectful and fun to be around. The owner and her husband are the most adorable people ever. They greet me by name and treat whoever I bring with me like a VIP. The color selection is fantastic and the technicians are always quick to help you make a decision. If you want to talk, the ladies at Gloss are happy to chat. If you don't want to talk, that's fine too - there are magazine and the technicians are happy to let you sit and check your facebook without interruption. It is so nice because the technicians really seem to like each other or at least get along. Nobody is every yelling or fighting and there are never any side conversations going on while services are being provided. The online booking is a dream, they are NEVER late and even when it is busy, you don't feel rushed. Gloss is also sparkling clean. Also, if you have a favorite technician, you can choose to book your appointment with them. I have had great experiences with everyone I have encountered, so I don't take advantage of that service, but I am sure others do. One of the other wonderful things about gloss is the smell, or lack thereof. I am so happy that they don't do fake nails and I don't have to smell them. Also, the ventilation system in that place must be top notch because you don't even smell nail polish! I give this salon 2 stars and that is being generous. The online booking for appointments is very convenient and easy to do. Gloss had a pleasant smell and nice decor, however it wasn't clean. There were several puddles from the standing sinks on the floor. As well as paper towels and dirty cotton balls. Upon entering the salon, I was greeted and rushed in to picking a color. The female tech that did my pedicure seemed inexperienced. She did not buff my heels or the innerside of my feet. She also placed the crystal stones (big toe nail design) on the wrong side (shiny side down). The same tech did a less than average manicure. $60 later, I had to buff my own feet that evening. Gloss is overpriced and overrated. Save your money and find another salon. read more

I went to Gloss today and got a fabulous and relatively inexpensive manicure. It hasn't been in Melrose for more than a couple of weeks but the family who owns it has owner a few other salons. I was initially drawn in by how nice it looked inside, all modern white clean looking furniture and very fresh looking. All the employees were very nice and hospitable. I had great conversations with the two women who worked on me. They have TOP OF THE LINE EVERYTHING! Including all of their disinfecting equipment which is always a relief to know. My manicure looks great and I look forward to going back soon to get a facial treatment and their other herbal treatments. I highly recommend Gloss! read more

Gloss is a new ultra modern super clean nail spa. I had made an online appointment that was confirmed within ten min. I had ended up being 30 min late and they still were able to accommodate me on a Saturday no less. My technician did not rush and actually spent the full amount of time on my pedi! (50min) I got the new gel polish which came out phenominal and lasted more than 3 weeks. It was my first time and definatly worth it. They were very customer oriented and did not rush. Before last night, I had never had my nails done at a salon before. Gloss made my first experience amazing. Everyone that works there is so friendly and the entire salon is very clean. You start by picking out a polish in the waiting area, which has a great magazine selection & something good on the TV. However, I did minus a star because a lot of the polishes were running low & they didn't have a lot of the summer pinks I usually go for. I did like that the used Essie and Zoya though. Next, I met Kristie and she took me over to the pedicure area. Kristie was super nice and even though she didn't talk a lot, I really liked having my nails done by her. I could tell she was really focused on what she was doing and making sure everything was perfect. The pedicure area was really nice. I was actually a little worried about reaching the sink area after reading some reviews on here but I'm 5'3" and I had no problem relaxing :) I felt very pampered! During the manicure, I was able to sit back and watch DC Cupcakes and Say Yes to the Dress on the tv. The chairs could have been a little more comfortable but you're not there very long. My nails look perfect thanks to Kristie and I was very satisfied with my experience at Gloss! Tip: Before you start your service, make sure you have your keys and money/card easily accessible for when you're done. I haven't been to gloss for over a year and decided to book an herbal mani and pedi. I was not impressed. The technician Kate gave me an herbal pedi first which wasn't that impressive, I should have stuck with a regular pedi. Additionally I booked an herbal mani but only received a regular mani. I didn't speak up because the herbal pedi didn't impress so I figured I'd save myself $5. In whole, the entire visit did not impress me. I've received better powering from less expensive salons around Malden and Melrose. Ps, I didn't realize it at the time but I was still charged for an herbal mani. Whole visit $60 plus tip. I did get a French on my toes but had a coupon to cover that. Not going back. read more

Usually nothing but good things to say about this place, but my pedicure today was just horrible. The shape of my toenails is jagged and ridiculous. She cut me 5+ times too and skimped on most parts of the pedicure. She leaned to the girl next to her and spoke hushed Vietnamese, I'm 95% sure she was making fun of my petite size 10 feet while she was at it! Honestly, she was old as fuck compared to the other girls. She was probably just not happy to be working there amoung more attractive girls who probably had non-barren wombs and families to be proud of; and I can't blame her. But she was rude and unskilled beyond belief, she gives the place a bad name. I think her name was Kate, but I could easily be wrong; if you get the old woman with long black hair and a fake smile, beware. I'm thinking of calling for a refund, she did such a horrible job. I love it here! The place is clean and very sleek looking. I loved the vibe I got when I first walked in. It's like being at a spa instead of just your typical nail salon. My Linh did my nails and she did a great job. There was a good selection of colors for gel/shellac. There's also a super simple way to make appointments by booking online. I have found my new go-to spot for pampering. I've been to Gloss a few times now and have had different nail techs each time. Every visit, I've had excellent service and been very happy with the results. The salon is spacious and clean, and the acoustics are great - even when it's crowded, it isn't too loud, so you can still relax. The selection of gel colors is great! I also just have to give a shout out to the pedicure stations --- so much more comfortable than the massage chairs at the typical neighborhood nail salon. the place is amazing; its nice, modern and clean. the girl who did my nails didnt talk to much, which i did not care much about but if u wanted a conversation while u did ur nails maybe ask for one of the younger employees. But she did an amazing job and i almost fell asleep while getting my pedicure on how great and relaxed i felt. the price was good 60$ for pedi and mani and acrylic take off. however, i did not give 5 stars just because of the parking. it took me more than 10 mins to find a parking spot which was like a couple min. walk from the salon. but i would come back again but just leave earlier to find parking and be able to make my appointment. read more

My fiancé and I had our first pedicures ever at Gloss together. I had asked around because I wanted our first time to be amazing. I had a few friends recommend Gloss and a few other places. I decided to go with Gloss because of all the rave reviews on Yelp. I am so glad I did! We got the herbal pedicures and they do an amazing job. Soak, callus removal, cuticle trim, nail trim and shaping, hot towel, hot stone massage, and your choice of scent for the herbal treatment. I chose mandarin orange and he chose the detoxifying mix. It was so relaxing and they did such a great job. I heard you can even bring a bottle of champagne or whatever with you to enjoy while you get your treatment. I would ask the spa for details. I went back for another regular mani pedi, and today I brought my fiancé back for herbal pedicures again and I got a gel manicure. I am very pleased with the services that I have gotten and the people that work there are very friendly and professional. This is not your average nail salon where the employees speak to each other in another language leaving you to wonder if they are talking bad about you. I really want to love this place because everyone here is so friendly and the place is clean. But I've stopped coming here because my gel nails never last more than 5-7 days. Last summer I'd come here all the time because my nails would last weeks but now they start chipping after 5 days. And I don't think it's anything I've done because I've gone to other salons recently and my nails last 2-3 weeks. I have noticed that here they use the black OPI LED box for gels and they look old. Other salons have the new white LED one. Maybe that's it?? Or maybe I've just had bad luck with the nail technicians I've got. read more

I went to Gloss for the first time today and I am so happy with my visit. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted at the front with a smile, checked in, and told to pick out my color. I definitely suggest making an appointment online and going as early as possible because it seems to get busy in there the later you go. I got a gel manicure with french, and I needed to remove the gel I previously had on. Tran was the one doing my nails and she was so pleasant and happy to serve me, and offered me a drink as soon as I sat down. She talked to me like I was a normal person, unlike many other nail salons where they all talk to each other instead of the customer. While removing my previous manicure from another place, she told me they had been using acrylic chemicals to try and make my gel last longer, which ended up doing quite the opposite, but felt like cement coming off my nails. I am so happy I discovered Gloss where they don't use any chemicals at all and I was grateful my nails weren't burning when I put them under the light, like they did at the previous place. My total was $30 for gel removal and gel manicure plus $5 for the french. Don't forget if you mention yelp you get a 15% discount!! My total was now under $30 and I am so pleased with my experience. Make sure you bring cash for tip as well. I couldn't recommend this place enough & I am thanking the nail gods I found Gloss Spa! read more

Finally made a mani/pedi appointment at Gloss after driving by it for almost a year. It's such a clean, open space, and everyone there is extremely friendly. Instead of individual pedicure chairs, there is an area that resembles a large couch with foot tubs built in below. Hard to describe (but there are pictures on their site), but I actually really preferred this to the chairs you find elsewhere. Most importantly, they did a great job on my nails. I usually have some sort of chips by day 2 or 3, but on my third day, my nails still look fabulous! read more
