    Salmon teriyaki bowl
    Bonnie Z.

Gnar Bar is a casual Japanese/Hawaiian spot if you want to grab a quick sit-down meal! This was our first meal as dinner in Mendocino after we checked into our B&B. We were tired from our drive up and ready for a tasty but fast meal. Saw the cute sign on the corner and had to drop in. I got the salmon teriyaki bowl and my husband got the combo (tuna + salmon) poke bowl. We're prioritizing eating all the seafood this weekend and this hit the spot! The fish was very fresh. My salmon teriyaki wasn't overcooked and very tender. I loved the tangy but not too sweet teriyaki sauce. Staff were very friendly and the food came out quickly. We may come back to grab some rolls or musubis to eat on the beach!

Top quality food and service made at the time of order. A real surprise to find this place considering how good it is. Coming to Mendocino? You have to stop in everything tastes amazing! The prices are just as fantastic. Oh. They have vegan options too

Will return! Great quality fresh fish and greens. I'm vegan husband pescatarian. I got vegan roll, he got poke bowl. Everything was fresh and tasty. The micrograms and homemade sauces were super yummy. Great prices, everyone was supper accommodating with our requests. You need to stop by.

We stopped in for a late afternoon lunch while visiting Mendocino. We ordered two sushi rolls and the Brussels sprouts. After ordering we were told they were out of something in one of the rolls and asked if they could just make us something - we were game And then we found out they were out of Brussels Sprouts so they ended up making something else for us that I didn't try because I was full, lol. The people were cool, the food was delicious, the town is adorable, and if we're ever back in Mendocino we will visit again.

Had a great lunch here, miso ramen with chicken, and the pork and shrimp shumai. It was all delicious and vs portions are huge. They offer limited counter seating and take out. Definitely going back.

Visiting the Mendocino coast for the first time, we had a craving for ramen since it was a little chilly. Henry took great care of us and we really enjoyed the vegan broth ramen and the tonkatsu ramen with chicken. Both delicious as it's hard to get a vegetarian ramen broth right. Henry gave us a list of great recommendations and we really enjoyed the whole experience. It's a small spot so, definitely grab a chair if possible or I'm sure a to go option to sit by the ocean wouldn't be a bad idea either. Thanks for your hospitality and we will be back!

Beautiful poke bowl, yummy spam musubi, and great service. Charming little place to grab a bite to eat. If you're hungry and in a hurry, grab the spam and go! Nice selection of hot sauces!

The spam musubi was one of the best I've had. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the ramen. I got the pork / chicken broth tonkotsu ($18) and added charchu to it (+$6). It is probably the worst restaurant ramen I've had to date. The broth seems to lack a tare base and tastes like one combined chicken and pork broth off the shelf together. It's just plain broth without any weight to it. The noodles were overcooked and had no give to it at all. The charchu was tasty, but I don't think it justifies a $6 price. My wife got the JD roll, and she said the ingredients were like an everything bagel minus one or two ingredients and stated it was ok.

    Yum!!! Chicken bowl delicious

So yummy!! Fantastic food, great service, chill atmosphere. Highly recommend for a quick pickup and was so fresh too

I love all of the ingredients that they add, including the bamboo shoots, and woodear mushrooms. The pork belly was incredibly delicious this time around. It wasn't too fatty, which is why I typically avoid pork belly, and it paired well with the chili oil. There was more seaweed than I've had in previous visits, which made the broth overly salty. Adding the chili oil helped round out the saltiness. If you like bouncier chew to your noodle I recommend the sapporo noodle. There is a $2 up charge to change the noodles, so keep that in mind, but I think it's worth it if that's your preference. For a drink I ordered the sidewinder. I enjoyed how cucumber forward it was, and the spice from the togarashi salt rim made me want to keep sipping. 10/10 great drink.

The Tonkotsu was incredibly rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful without being overly heavy. On the flip side, the Shoyu broth was perfectly balanced, savory, and clean. When I found out that he owned Raku Ramon & Rolls I was excited to try it and went last night for dinner. It was one of the worst dining experiences I had. Really an embarrassment to his name and other restaurants. It is a self serve and buss your own table kind of place, which I had no problem with. The staff was more than polite and friendly which release great and a nice surprise. What was difficult to understand was the poor quality of the food, the discomfort of seating and lack of repairs to many of the chairs with broken foot rails. Actually the chairs were all backless and either very low seats or high stools. The pork pot stickers were very good, the salmon Katsu was terrible being a long strip of overly fried thick crumb coated salmon that was so over fried that the salmon was dry and the thinnest piece of salmon was overpowered by the thick coating . It sat on a huge mound of sticky rice with tasty sauces and unusual cooked pickles. Definitely not worth the cost of this entry. Needless to say, I will never go back and will continue goi g to Sea Thai Bistro, Sea Thai Noodle and Mandarin.

Updating prior review…read more.. I used to come here a lot and really enjoyed it. Decided to give them a try after going to some other sushi places for a bit, so it was a nostalgia trip. They have also just completed an expansion and remodel which added more seating, and opened up the restaurant with a bit. They still use the iPad based ordering system which I always like, since it allows for better pacing. While before I praised them, this time left more to be desired. The sheen seems to have come off. Not sure if they changed chefs, but fish did not seem as fresh, sauces were a lot more heavy handed (overkill), and it just didn't feel as clean tasting as it used to. Maybe an off night, but not nearly as good as I remembered it to be. They have more cute robots now - and the bee decor makes it feel more like a proper restaurant. Though they have a wide menu - I would probably encourage sushi lovers to look elsewhere. The ramen, fried rice, dumplings and bento boxes are probably a stronger suit here now. They also seem to be doing a lot of take out service now as well.
