We had dinner here on Saturday, less than an hour before closing time, and there was no wait to be seated. Actually they had us choose our own seats. It was the end of the day, so the place wasn't the cleanest, but it wasn't nasty, just unbussed tables, a dirty tablecloth, and a bit of food on the floor. Service was standard and sufficient. We ordered the spicy tuna handroll, hamachi maki, salmon thing, pork gyoza, and carlos roll (minus avocado) cuz i was curious about the chicken beef shrimp combo. Most of the food was decent, though they used imitation crab instead of fresh crab, surprisingly, since the restaurant is located so close to the water. The carlos roll wasn't great. The texture was definitely different (I was fine with it, but my bf couldn't even eat it), and the meats were a bit dry. Unique for sure, but not exactly the most appealing. Our favorite items were the salmon thing, pork gyoza, and spicy hamachi handroll. Nothing too special, but the taste was better than the rest. read more

The lion King roll was delicious. Came with lots of sauce. Never seen such bright pink ginger, but it was tasty. The main thing that brings it down to four stars is the service was very slow. It was a Friday night and a good amount of people, but our food took quite a while. Also, they have a 4% surcharge for using a credit or debit card so that's annoying. The restaurant is simply but elegantly furnished. The waiter and cook were friendly and approachable. THE FOOD: - perfect is not a good enough word for the meal I had there today. I had lunch: chicken teriyaki and tempura, came with rice and salad and an orange slice. The chicken was so tender, the vegetables excellently cooked, battered and fried. The white rice was exactly the stickiness preferred by a diner. The serving was so ample I was able to take half of it home and enjoy it for dinner!! I didn't want to leave my motel, so I ordered through "food runners", the local food delivery service. The food came reasonably quick.. My first item was the green mussels appetizer. Overall, it was good. The mussels were delicious, with a good briny flavor. They came with the house special sauce on top. The house sauce was good. A bit spicy, but not overly so. I enjoyed it very much. I also ordered the Durango roll, which had Fried soft-shell crab, tobiko, and again with the house special sauce. I paid an extra dollar to put cream cheese on it as well. This was also very good. The softshell crab had a good flavor, and I could definitely taste the cream cheese. However, on this one, the combination of the tobiko and the house special sauce, was a bit more spicy. I still ate it, because it was good, but it was right up to the edge of what I care for in spicy. The price of the food was good, but the delivery price, I thought was a bit high, Just the delivery charge, and fees, came out to 10 bucks, plus tip, which I would've paid in the restaurant anyway , I do realize that I was paying for the convenience of having it brought right to my door. I can usually put away three orders of rolls, no problem. The size of the rolls at Off the Hook are easily 1.5 times bigger than most Sushi restaurants. I could only finish one order of rolls. Came for lunch- ordered miso ramen and a katsu bento. Well katsu was over cooked, maybe they don't have panko here. The tempura roll was massive almost 3 inches diameter, but the taste was lacking. While the restaurant is very clean, and tastefully done, there's nothing truly special about that. But, oh! The food! We were in Fort Bragg for a short visit, and on the first day, two people recommended this place. We decided to drop in, and were glad we did! The menu is large, and the dishes authentically Japanese. We wish we could have tried one of everything! We settled on the Shrimp Sauté and the Chicken Sauté, and were very happy with our choices. We started with a couple of bowls of Miso soup, and they were hearty and deep flavored. So good! The entrees arrived, and there was SO much food! Wonderful vegetables, and succulent, well cooked proteins, sautéed in an amazing sauce with sweet notes, and hearty body. We finished off with a bowl of house made Green Tea Ice Cream that was bold and rich and not overly sweet. Service was very quick, on the money accurate, and our server was very pleasant. This sushi restaurant is AMAZING. My family and I came by for the first time back in November but my fiancé and I finally had a chance to come back last week and it was SO good. We had the same lady seat and serve us from last time and she was so friendly, her service is really great. The inside area was nice and clean and we got seated at a booth. I really love this place. We were hungry so we ordered a good amount of food. We got the magic mushrooms (stuff and fried mushrooms), miso soup, edamame, garden special roll, salmon lover roll, rainbow roll, spicy tako roll, and the kake sake make roll. Went here with a friend from out of town and it was just eh/pretty average. Service was not great but it also wasn't bad--more apathetic, if anything (waiter was also the host who seated us and didn't really seem to care to pay attention to small details like repeating the orders back to us or how I had forgotten to order a drink until my boyfriend pointed it out when the waiter was about to leave). The salmon sashimi I got was fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but my boyfriend said the shrimp tempura roll he got was just okay. My friend seemed to like the Dragon Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll (though I thought the spicy tuna was a bit spicy--but I also can't handle spice well). Food portions were very small for the amount we paid, in my honest opinion. My sashimi was $20 and while I got eight pretty thick slices of salmon, it was served on daikon strips and a piece of lettuce and just seemed like the value of it was just a bit stretched and overpriced. My boyfriend's shrimp tempura roll was only four slices and was ~$10, while both of my friend's rolls were ~$15 each and I want to say that he got four pieces with the spicy tuna roll and maybe five or six with the dragon roll. I was interested that they served my food and my boyfriend's food on opposite ends of the same long plate rather than using two separate plates. I suppose that might also speak to the scale of how small the portions were though. Ambience was fine. Wasn't anything to brag about or write horror stories on, though there were some gnats that kept hovering around the food. I was blessed to get a meal with my daughter when she returned for a quick visit from college. She/We wanted sushi so we chose Off the Hook, one I hadn't been to in many moons. Our pre basketball game treat began with edamame and miso soup, both perfect. I chose mackerel or Saba and the Durango roll for the soft shell crab. The Saba tasted fresh and was bursting with flavor and the yummy Durango roll was gigantic. My kid opted for the Serra Special which was a meal in itself and absolutely divine. I'm pretty fond of the setting it definitely had an Asian nautical vibe that was relaxing and warm. The owner is fabulous, we were fortunate she was our server as she was super attentive. They do have beer but unfortunately no 99's which is the only knock . Upon entering Fort Bragg a 3-hour drive from Oakland to here, we were starving. Gal at hotel said here's the map of our restaurants. Hubby and I love sushi, so we chose based on location. We noticed the big sign, and only street parking available. Upon entering, we almost thought it was closed. So quiet, and no customers. We were greeted and seated immediately. We ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, the Dragon Roll, and I had a salmon handroll with cucumbers. I must say, they were pretty quick and food was delicious! I'm such a foodie so everything I read, we don't always follow. We had a great meal, very nice hostess. I have to recommend the Dragon Roll, it was so big, we had three rolls left over. Let's talk food first- I am amiss for not starting with sushimi - I had the hamachi lovers roll. This was a Bay Area good size roll, not the thumb diameter roll size served across the street. It was LOADED with incredibly fresh hamachi, avocado and cucumber with just enough spicy sauce to make it 'pop' but none dripping into the plate- amazing! Service was very good -attentive but not distracting. Ambiance - there is no typical sushi bar. It was not fancy but clean, - low budget, I imagine a necessity in Fort Bragg. The sweet potato roll was so large I had to take 3 bites, meaning the roll just fell completely apart. The waitress originally brought me the wrong order in a togo box when I was dining in. I had to ask a different waiter about the mistake because the waitress never came back and I didn't want to eat someone else's food by mistake. Ordered Coke and it was so flat which employee looked surprised and then said they have been having that issue. We ordered edamame it had 0 flavor. This is for folks planning on doing south of the Lost Coast trail. We went backpacking the Sinkyone Wilderness Segment and camped our car on 431. Fort Bragg was the nearest town with a cell reception. So we ended up here. The service was a little slow, but the food was really good. One young man was working front of house, bringing out pick-up orders, AND waiting all of the tables, and he was absolutely killing it. He was extremely kind, attentive, and charismatic. The food was fantastic as well - our table had three different sushi rolls, yakisoba, and teriyaki, and all were Delicious. The portions were extremely generous for the prices.
