I usually only come for the gizzards, and I've been eating these since I was a little girl. They are delicious, especially with the buttery dinner roll. I can't say much about going in, but if you have ATLEAST an hour to wait in the drive thru line that goes into the Main Street (Troost), then you may have to come back on a random weekday at 12pm because the line is crazy. However, when you reach the speaker to place your order, the staff is kind and you usually get your food shortly after you order. I was there around 11 a.m. at the drive-thru. I was so excited for my wings and mashed potatoes and of course the HS. When I got home(7 min later) I opened my tiny box of heaven and there sat 4 old wings a cold cup of mashed potatoes. My husband had the same issue with his gizzards as there was barley enough breading on them to fry, so eating them wasn't an option. This isn't the first its occurred. Normally I'll wait a few months to go back. Things happen and no one's perfect. However, its expensive to eat out anywhere and when you do you want it hot and fresh. Definitely not as flavorful as Popeyes, Raising Caines, Zaxby's or even our local Price Chopper. There seemed to be no seasoning used. Fried chicken heaven. Take my word. :) A local favorite that should be on your short list of non Barbecue food spots in the city. I recommend the wings and the fried gizzards. Multiple locations across the city. Both on the Missouri and Kansas sides of the state line. The location on Troost is my favorite with both walk in and drive through available. Had fairly high hopes because of all the other positive reviews. Honestly, go-chicken-go should be called stop-chicken-stop because it will legitimately take you 20 min to get through the drive thru. As I was waiting in the drive thru, I saw multiple people utilize the walk-in part of the restaurant and then after they got back to their cars, they walked straight back into the restaurant because their order was wrong. This should've been a sign. By the time I got my order and got home, I realized my order was wrong as well. They gave me the wrong meal and wrong drink. What I ended up getting was the dark meat meal and gizzards (which I had ordered originally, so this was ok). The fries chicken was good, but really greasy. I was disappointed with the gizzards (lacked seasoning and did not seem fresh). The sides were not great either (mashed potatoes were average, and would have preferred KFC tbh). The buns were bad but I'm not a Hawaiian bun fan. If you go during off hours (not the lunch or dinner rush) may be okay, but not sure if I'll be returning read more

The line to enter this establishment was somewhat long, but it was well worth the wait. I was greeted by a nice woman who was very energetic. Definitely set the mood of the whole establishment. She took our order and even recommended the G-Sauce and helped answer any questions I had. The food tasted amazing. You get two sides with the meal, so we ordered coleslaw and mashed potatoes with gravy The chicken was very flavorful, juicy, tender, with a slight crunch which made it even better. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy. More than enough to fill you up with a great taste. The coleslaw was rich in flavor and made the rest of the food pair perfectly. The G-Sauce has a sweet and spicy flavor which made the chicken taste better, but not my personal favorite. Overall, I had an amazing experience at this location. We visit this place while in town visiting my Sis. Service was quicker than I imagine given the drive thru line and the servers were courteous and professional. The food was incredible. She was craving the liver and gizzards and ordered just enough to satisfy her craving and the other two of us to taste. The bread and G sauce was enough to make me return everyday but the meal was just as tasty. Wow, no wonder this place is always busy. It is really good! I've had their gizzards before and loved them. Today I decide to just get a few drumsticks with a roll, a side of G sauce and a drink. I finished everything. I probably would've eaten a lot more if it was in front of me. They have a drive-thru and larger parking lot than most other GCGs, and the dining area is also large and appeared clean. I wouldn't mind frequenting this place when I'm in the neighborhood. Just a heads up, it doesn't look like they have an indoor restroom though. I would recommend keeping that in mind. I was only in the building for a short period of time but so many people came in and many through the drive-thru. They are very efficient and get your order out to you rather quickly and the food tastes hot and fresh. So this is my favorite GCG location and I do recommend giving it a try if you like fried chicken. read more

After several people/family had mentioned that they liked this restaurant my cousin and I decided to try it out. We looked at the menu and we're excited to see that on the website it said that it had broasted chicken, which is a really super dish that we grew up eating in independence Missouri. however, when my cousin got to the restaurant to pick up our order, we found out that they don't have broasted chicken that it is basically fried just like KFC. That being said it was very good. The way they cut their pieces of chicken breast was more reminiscent of Church's, and I do prefer KFC's method of cutting also. The side dishes we ordered included, slaw and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy. We thought they were excellent. Even the rolls were very good and the piece of cheesecake we shared was very tasty. My cousin had called in order to head and it was ready when she got there. We were a little concerned because it was Sunday and we all know what Sunday crowds are like after church, but she didn't have a very long wait at all. The staff at the restaurant/drive-through was very helpful and polite. The restaurant is close to the plaza area where my cousin lives, but we don't have one that I know of out here in Independence, where I live. Guess I'll just have to depend upon her, picking it up and bringing it out to me again. It was good value for the money and we did enjoy it and will enjoy it in the future hopefully. read more

Had heard good things, so I tried the drive-thru. Ordered a 9-pc all dark with corn on the cob. Out of corn on the cob. Alright, 9-pc all dark with mashed potatoes and gravy. :-( She told me the price over the intercom, and it seemed a LOT higher than I expected. I questioned the price, she repeated it with the order: 9 piece combo (rolls and large side). Oh well, I just chalked it up to pandemic and inflation and supply chain issues, and maybe I read the online menu wrong. Got home, pulled out the chicken and it was not all dark--in fact, it was ALL WHITE (which I kinda hate). Oh, and all-white is much more expensive than all-dark at GCG. So that partly explained the higher price. Gave the chicken a try and, well, it was nothing special to me or my wife. Among fast-food chicken, I prefer Popeyes, Church's, and KFC, probably in that order. The mashed potatoes and gravy tasted like they were out of a box. The rolls were pretty basic (definitely not homemade). This restaurant has the absolute best and tender gizzards! They're well seasoned and fried to perfection. I've yet to find a restaurant that has better gizzards that aren't tough and hard to chew. The staff is also friendly and work hard to get your order out as quickly as possible. read more
