Honest Review: 3star at the most since having eaten here for years My fam and I have debated over the years that this was our go to "expensive" Korean BBQ since it was always a bit more pricier than the others around them within a 2-3min driving radius. The reason being was that their quality of food which included meats, soup, noodles, fried rice and side dishes were much fresher and better than their competitors...at least until more recently, really not sure what happened especially with such early closing hours at 8:30pm; do they not want to make more money or maybe it seems sus for not having to pay into employee benefits/insurance since cutting hours below max full-time of 40hrs/wk. Anyway we mostly order these as follows: 1. Seafood Pancake (used to be filled with more grilled octopus but now just a mouthful of green onions) 2. Jhap Chae (this is my all time fav because they make it super tasty and it's in a hearty bowl instead of a plate; kept nice and warm but you must request less oil since the bottom can be resting on a good amount of it) 3. Beef Fried Rice (again, make sure to request for less oil; we prefer this over the Kimchi Fried Rice since my fam is unable to do spicy lol sucks for them because I love kimchi) 4. Ox Knee Soup (used to be filled with lots of big tendon pieces now sliced into much thinner ones with more glass noodles as a filler) 5. Gogoong Noodle Soup: Seafood (very inconsistent now where you must request for less salt and noodles cooked longer) 6. BBQ Short Ribs (can't go wrong, still very nice hearty pieces that are rich in flavor so very happy they've kept their quality and did not go thin on us like their other competitors). ***DO NOT ORDER the Fried Chicken Wings (they have now become so mini that it should be on a kids menu) and the Fried Seaweed Roll (not homemade; literally taken out from a bag you can buy at the supermarket yourself to make at home) The reason why I'm still giving them a 3star is due to the fact that they've been around for a long time and I have recommended fam and friends to try before they started going a bit sour. I really hope that they bounce back and get back in shape, it may be due to management and their owner; however, I'm really hoping that their long term hostesses/waitresses/servers (I thought they were sisters at one point lol) speak up and demand for what's best for them and us as their loyal customers!!! read more

We always come here if we have time during dinner after work and yes as always cravings satisfied. The server is nice and very accommodating asking if we need something else. I had the Beef tofu soup, medium spice, it was very delicious and the spice level was up there. Decent amount of Beef. The kimchi fried rice had a nice runny egg and was also delicious. Pork belly spicy pork was disappointing. It was a small portion and there wasn't much fat on the pork. The saddest dish was the seafood pancake. I don't know what has happened to this restaurant but the quality of their food has really gone downhill the past year . This restaurant is VERY EXPENSIVE, for the price they charge the food quality should be much much better . Ordered crispy and sticky chicken wings tonight , both were overcooked , and the smallest wings I have ever seen , less than 2 inches . The sticky wings had less than a tablespoon of sauce , dry and overcooked. The beef fried rice was just ok , the egg looked and tasted as if it were fried yesterday . Terrible food and mediocre service. The place is semi "trendy ", Their bonchon was so little, only 6 small plates. It tasted ok..They don't refill plates like most korean restaurants. They don't serve you tea or have any. The prices are EXPENSIVE compared to other restaurants . Their galbj and jap chae was NOT that good .WORST part: there was gum on the their chair and it got stuck on my clothing. It ruined my clothing, and it can't come off! Came on a Sunday for lunch and had the tofu soup, which hit the spot. The waitress was very attentive, asking if I wanted more water and sides. I'm Korean and used to BAD Korean service but I just tolerate it because it's just part of the culture unfortunately, for this reason alone I will never go back and all my other friends agree.. There were 3 empty tables, we were there for no more than 2 hours and the middle-age hostess with a mask told us we had to leave! There was one family of 5 that could have easily sat at the other 3 empty tables! We didn't leave and she came back and told us to get out. We sat at 5:30, waitress came at 6 to take our order, it took 30 mins to get our food and at 7:40 she was telling us to leave!!!! The family of 5 would have not even been able to sit at our table as it was a tight table for 4 so I had no idea what she was talking about in that they were waiting for our table.. There were two tables of 4 and 1 table of 6-8. Why couldn't they sit there?? WOW RUDENESS and unfortunately at that point we already left a tip. With the weather so cold, I was really craving some Korean tofu soup to end my week. I've been to Go Goong before COVID, and the service has always been great but I have been loving how COVID friendly they have been. My favorite part of Korean food are usually the side dishes. I was worried I wouldn't get any when ordering the food to-go, but Go Goong packs all the side dishes beforehand into a cute container! All the vegetables taste really fresh and healthy. The broccoli and kimchi have a nice sweet flavor to them, and the spinach and bean sprouts always taste so fresh and refreshing - a perfect side to the meal! My favorite orders here are the Soy glazed chicken wings, mushroom soup, and spicy chicken. The chicken wings are sweet and crunchy with such tender chicken meat - there's a reason why it's a favorite here! The mushroom tofu soup has a really nice flavor to it and is so filling. The spicy chicken / meats aren't too spicy but still have a lot of flavor. Go-goong is a bit pricey, but that's expected for good Korean food! read more

We had the cozy and warm restaurant to ourselves for a good thirty minutes before other parties started rolling in. I like how there's ample space between tables and that the center was open. We ordered the cheese tteokbokki, fried chicken, sweet and spicy fried chicken, and spicy beef soondubu; all of them came in good portions for sharing. The meal was a good deal for the amount we paid and food wasn't heavy (not like the Korean food you find at restaurants where people drink like there's no tomorrow). This is definitely one of the more family friendly spots I've seen and I think it's in a good location! read more

First thing they said to us was we should make a reservation next time and to look at the menu then they'll seat us. The entrance was blocked by a table. Never knew it requires reservation and it was our first time there since they changed owner. Thought it was pretty rude to assume we knew their rules and didn't even ask first so we decided to give someone else our business. Beef Bibimbop on hot stone: 2.5/ 5. Very small portion of stringy meat. Packaged carrots. Some of the green vegetables were stale and tasted sour and I had to spit it out. Even the spicy paste in the little bottle didn't taste right. Who knows how old that thing is. The ban chan also tasted old, like it had been sitting out and it was all room temperature. We did get a refill and that was served chilled. Fried Mackeral: I didn't try this but my SO ordered it and said it was pretty good. It looked oily to me. The bathroom toilet I used was leaking brown goo at the seams. It was super gross and they tried to mask the smell by putting in some strong air freshener that burned the inside of my nostrils. They asked to leave right after I paid the check because there were people waiting. There was only a family of 3, and there were tables that were open. We found it rude. A pretty typical Korean restaurant, I tried their seafood pancake and beef tofu soup. I liked how crispy the pancake was, though it's "airier" than ones I've had elsewhere with a lot of gaps in-between the seafood and batter. The soup wasn't super flavorful but satisfied my cravings. They did use pretty sizable chunks of beef in the soup which was nice. The banchan dishes tasted good but nothing super memorable. They had all the usual ones like kimchi, seaweed salad, beansprout, etc. We went pretty early on a Friday night and there wasn't any wait. So overall I'd say this is a decent place to go if you want Korean food but wouldn't put it in my top 3. read more

Just went for the first time. Best Korean restaurant in the area. Man, I read the prior reviews and boy are they bipolar. I got the sense that the food was great but service was horrific. I went right at opening. Had a young lady as a waitress. She could not have been more polite, friendly, and attentive. Came by to refill waters without asking. Asked if I wanted more banchan when she saw empty dishes. Seemed the same way with other tables. We got the galbi, bulgogi, garlic soy wings, and beef soondulbul. The tofu soup actually had flavor. BCD is still my favorite, but BCD specializes in that so not totally fair. This place was still good though and more generous with the meat. Bulgolgi was soft and flavorful. Probably the best I've had in America. The only knock I had was, yes, the wings are only 6 pieces and they're really small pieces. But it seemed fried in rice flour so it was extra crispy and flavorful which helped make up for the size. Danon in Danville is good too, but not as "authentic" and costs quite a bit more. I'd say Ohgane in Oakland maybe a bit better, but 1) they jacked the prices way higher than here and 2) it's in Oakland and a broken car window is just not worth it. We did ask for some time between appetizers and entrees, as we were not in a rush. That didn't happen. But water refills, checked on between courses and during entrees to ensure satisfaction, did happen. The seafood pancake had lots of seafood and was perfectly cooked. While the potstickers were good, I will skip the next time. My date loved the flavor of the ribs, but did not think it was worth $30. My soft tofu soup was delicious and had great flavor.
