Visited with my boyfriend for dinner and we both got a two entree plate with samosas, and garlic naan. The garlic naan is AMAZING, definitely a must if you go there. I tried the chicken tikka masala and the daal. Even though I can't handle spicy foods, I found that there was just enough heat that I still enjoyed it. My boyfriend got something else and he said it was spicy enough for his tastes. We both ended up taking home leftovers with enough for a second meal. The samosas were good, but I wasn't really impressed by them. Glad I tried it, but probably won't get again. I will definitely be returning to Gogi's. I STILL love this place as you'll see from my prior reviews. Here is the new tip- call ahead by 20 minutes and request the Tandoori Chicken. Most of the food is cafeteria style not made to order, so it's quick, the Tandoori Chicken is the exception but OH SO WORTH THE WAIT, and no wait if you call ahead. I've ate here many times and never remembered to call ahead for the Tandoori chicken, and finally pulled it off. This is marinaded to perfection and everything you love about BBQ, you'll find carries to Tandoori chicken. With a side of Samosas you are in heaven. HEAVEN! PS- Gogi's bring back those wraps for the farmers market I was so excited when the market started back up, and then so sad when the wrap wasn't there! As long as samosas exist I'll never stop coming by, but I do miss my wrap. read more

I opted for the two entree and rice plate instead. Picked the potato and cauliflower dish and the chicken curry. Plus a samosa. I've been to Gogi's a few times since they opened as they are just a few blocks from my office, but all I was ever brave enough to try was Skittles and Ice Tea. Yesterday I decided to challenge my boring anglo pallet and went in for lunch. Gogi, actually came up front and explained every single food to me, and I got to try several dishes before I chose. Oh my how good it all was. I loved it so much....especially the Mango Yogurt drink that I brought my friend, the world traveler in for lunch today. She loved and the prices are ridiculously low. I don't know all the names of the types of Indian dishes, so I like that I can see the dishes and choose which one (or two) look the yummiest-- which is often hard because they all look delicious. I've been coming to Gogi's on the regular for a couple years and have only ever had great service and even better food. Samosa and house made chutney are always great. Saffron rice goes with every delicious entree. The owner is pleasant and usually present. Don't forget to order fresh, made to order naan. I recommend. read more

I've been coming to Gogi's for several years, enough to use up 2 of their buy 10 get 1 free cards. I've never had a bad experience here and the owners are always kind and friendly to me. There are certainly cheaper places to get a bite but if you want a quality meal with locally sourced ingredients you're going to have to pay for it. The only possible complaint I can come up with is that they don't have lamb dishes as often as I want :) I've so far had the lamb curry and lamb korma when they've had it and could easily eat a gallon of that stuff, it's soooo good! They used to be amazing and give proper sized portions for high prices, a little while back i came and had problem with the lady giving me not what i ordered. Decided to give it another try and asked for 2 SLICES of naan bread, 1 order. And the man gave me 2 ORDERS charging me over 6$ for 4 slices, the food is still way over priced over 20$ for 1 meal and they cu5 the old portions in half, hardly any food. Gogi's Cafe is a new Indian Restaurant and they are a new vendor in our Dorm Dollar and Guest Chef Programs. Our residents love their food! The staff are very friendly and the environment is clean and comfortable, the extra bonus is that it is just steps away from campus. Our favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala and the naan is amazing! read more

For all the aromatics that Indian food has to offer, this just felt slightly underwhelming. The texture was fine, creamy Tikka Masala, but we definitely added our own seasonings when we got home to liven it up a bit. Amazing food. Great staff and atmosphere. Love the restaurant. I recommend the tofu curry. They serve cafeteria style which minimizes waiting...which is great for students. I was excited to hear that another Indian food restaurant had opened in Chico and even more excited that it was within walking distance from my work. The menu above just listed the two choices... One item or two. I ordered a two item not knowing if it included sides or anything. He grabbed a plate.. Gave it a scoop of rice and asked for my two selections. I choose the two curies with chicken. He got a single scoop of the first one.. 4 small chunks of chicken and a little sauce spread out on one side of the rice. Selection two yielded two small chunks of chicken and a small pool of sauce. He headed to the cash register; I could tell I was going to be hungry still so I asked if they had naan? I was told that they did not have naan but did offer another type of bread and that he would bring it out. I grabbed a ginger ale to go with my meal, my friend with me ordered the exact same selections. He rang us up for a total of $27 and change. Pricey considering I was going to be hungry after the meal. We paid and headed to our table. He brought out the bread a minute later. It was what amounted to a single 5" spinach tortilla. As I tucked into the curry I found that the chicken was cold in the center still. They seem to be using their steam table to slowly warm the food rather than heating it on a stove. As we sat eating out meal the local health inspector paid them a visit. As we were leaving they were getting verbally quizzed on their reheating practices because the food was not at a safe temperature. So my hot lunch was not so hot.. $2 for a single 5" tortilla is way too much and the portion size was way too small for what I paid. Plus the lack of meat in the small portion of curry I received was disappointing. For less money than I paid for this meal I could have had hot all you can eat with table service, naan and dessert at the competitor. What can you do to improve? a) Follow the health inspector's guidance on reheating the food so that it is not cold. b) Increase the portion size or at least be consistent with the meat portion. c) Include naan with the meal d) Talk to your customers. Our table of four was clearly not happy with our portions. We did in fact stop at a second downtown establishment on the way back to our office to fill up. Please take this to heart and implement some changes. I will gladly revisit and improve the rating in the near future and post back. I don't want to see you fail. I also don't want to lie to you and make you think all is well when it clearly is not. Lots of people will visit once and not come back. The cost of those failures will be much higher than a slightly larger portion or including bread with the meal. Best of luck. read more

To begin with, I want to say that the food items that I bought were great. However, the prices are way too high for the small portions that are given out. Also, the general manager of the restaurant (Gogi's husband) was very disrespectful and downright RUDE towards me recently during my last visit, all because I had simply asked him how Gogi was doing. On top of that, he had the NERVE to tell me, "You shouldn't be offended," after being super rude to me! REALLY? I am STILL in utter disbelief! This incident has dissuaded me from ever going back, because addressing your customers in a rude manner is NO way to run a business. I had been going into Gogi's to buy food since I moved here to Chico (three months ago from the time of this review), so I have met Gogi--hence my question of how she was doing, after which, her husband snapped at me. I have nothing against Gogi herself, but her husband needs to learn how to be polite, because you will ultimately end up losing business if you are rude to people like that--just as you had been with me. Given all that I just described, I would personally prefer to pursue other restaurants in the area, whose owners treat me more humanely. read more

I am giving this place a 3 Star rating only because the meal was gluten free, with no additives such as MSG and it was delicious. I would eat there again if I can get over the fact that we witnessed the owner using a rag to clean the floor, then using the same rag to clean off the table, leaving me to wonder what happens in the kitchen. On another note, the owner feels it is necessary to lock the bathroom because of their downtown location, and I understand that being a problem but having to bring back the key defeats the purpose of washing my hands. read more

WOW! Okay, I did come here about a week and a half ago after talking to a friend about the lack of Indian food in town. To my knowledge, there is only one other place in Chico that offers Indian food, and they want $13 and up a plate. So, I decided to stop by here after the gym. The first time, I did walk in asking to order the $7.95 combo plate - which comes with rice and two sides. However, since I selected fish, the combo plate was actually $10.00 + tax. I was not expecting that and not too happy, but I decided to go back. This time, I came back yesterday for lunch and the place was packed! I ordered to go and made sure to mention, "I would like the $7.95 combo plate" and chose two sides. I don't know what they are called because I don't know how to pronounce them (haha) but the owners will let you sample each dish to make sure you enjoy the taste. I have only had Indian food in San Francisco, New York City, and now in Chico. It may not be the best Indian food in the world, but its affordable and readily available. As a matter of fact, it is served "cafeteria style," meaning it is already cooked and they serve it for you on an assembly line. I am a pretty picky eater and I can say for downtown Chico to have an Indian restaurant that serves up a quick meal in a friendly atmosphere for less than $10.00, I am totally down! Will be back tomorrow, going to introduce my sister and friends to this new Chico gem! HOWEVER, if the owners are reading this, things to improve on: *Have naan EVERYDAY! I LOVE NAAN. Why only on weekends? *Make sure when you advertise your combo plates that you tell customers that there is an extra charge for fish! I don't like surprises at the cash register. =D read more

After staving off a weeklong craving for Indian food I finally gave in and stopped by Gogi's since its location is so convenient. Everything about this experience was disappointment. The servers forgot to bring out our Naan and our samosas(which we had to ask for twice). At least they were gracious enough to give us an extra samosa free for the mistake. The ambiance is more drab café than southwest asian restaurant. A little decoration would go a long way to help. The worst part of the experience was the painful gut ache that started an hour later and persisted for a good two hours. I've experienced this a couple times before after gorging myself at Indian buffets in the southbay. My Indian friend claimed it was baking powder added to the dishes to make you eat less. While this may be an indian urban legend, I'll be skipping gogis for a while and make the short trek out to the other Indian restaurant which is consistently good. read more

My husband and I love Gogi's and it's our go-to vegan Indian spot; we originally came from SoCal and moved up to the Lost Sierras 3 months ago, and it's been really hard to find good vegan Indian food anywhere, and so far Gogi's always been the best. The owners are always friendly, are hella accommodating when we ask if the fireplace spot is open, and seriously HOOK IT UP when it comes to the food! We always get a 2 entree and get the "our eyes are way bigger than our stomach" effect every time we come in here, but I always love having the leftovers afterwards. 5 stars all the way around, we'll keep coming back again and again! read more

No seafood options on buffet line and naan bread tastes like stale pita bread from the grocery store. Wine was stale and tasted very old. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for Indian food. I ate here once, and will not be returning anytime soon. The female employee seemed friendly, but the male employee was all serious, and wouldn't talk to any of the customers accept these two Indian girls, and even seemed annoyed when asked about the menu. They also don't know the meaning of the word, "Kebab". I don't remember exactly how much I paid, but it was close to $20. For that price, and the amount of time it took to make, I thought I would get a large Turkish kebab. But no. All I got was a small plate with some rice, lettuce and a few pieces of chicken. The food was delicious, I won't complain about that, but for that price I expected a lot more of it. I saw some Indian girls near me, had some flat bread with their order. It turns out, if you want an actual kebab, you have to pay separate for the flat bread and make it yourself. That's the thing that got to me. I don't think they should call this dish a "kebab", as that is not what it is. I know foreign food is expensive, but the small portion does not justify the price. I was still hungry after I left. Honestly, if it wasn't for the price, I would have no problem coming back here, but I'm not gonna pay over $15 for a "kebab" that isn't actually a kebab. read more

Best Indian I've ever had! It's the only thing I miss about Chico to be quite honest. The food is just great! Everything is good. The prices are great. The flavors of everything I've had is good and they are clean and friendly! And they do punch cards so for every like 10 meals you get a free meal! Love this place!! The people that work here are always nice, welcoming and humble. They are also so helpful. If it's your first time eating Indian food they definitely help you out a lot on what to choose. The food here is so good. It's flavorful, and authentic which you tend not to see both now days with food. I come here a lot with friends. It's such a great environment. They also have specials for students, which is nice because it's less than 5 minute walk from Chico State campus. If you haven't been already I highly recommend going!!! read more
