My friend and I were in the area for an event at the Pomona Fairplex and had been so excited to try this place after seeing great reviews for it on social media. However, it was extremely poorly run. We arrived around 4:50pm and were told that they needed to do some sort of maintenance and had to close for one hour. Since we were already here, we decided to just hang out and wait. When we came back in at 5:55, there was now a sign that said they would not reopen until 6:30. We had already been waiting for an hour so we decided to just wait some more. We sat down and while we were sitting, a line began growing rapidly. Two employees had been having some sort of meeting or discussion at the front when we first came back just before 6, but when we saw the line grow from two people to over a dozen people, those two had completely disappeared and left one poor girl in the front, looking at the line with dismay. Eventually, the other staff returned but not a single person acknowledged the line of waiting customers at all. No closed sign or anything posted, menu screens off, no one even around to turn us away. From a food safety standpoint, seems a little sketch. We ended up eating elsewhere in the market. As we ate the food from the other restaurants we saw them open up again. This all happened during their posted business hours. My wife and I returned today, determined to try the sandwiches we saw on social media lol. We ended up ordering 2 crispy pork banh mi sandwiches and an order of BBQ pork summer rolls. We were told it would be 30 minutes (ordered at ~2:30pm), and we ended up waiting an hour. We got some food from the other restaurants to snack on as we waited. Again, we saw them close their line to customers during their business hours while I assume they caught up with orders. For what I consider a "fast-casual" place this is unacceptable 4 months in. Food: The sandwiches were okay, and definitely not worth the 1 hour wait. The crispy pork skin was crunchy in some parts, more chewy in others. The bread also had a degree of chewiness to it and didnt give me the sense that it was freshly baked. The summer rolls were relatively better, and the BBQ pork was well seasoned and had good flavor. All in all I simply cannot recommend this place. We probably wouldn't come back here again. There are many better places for banh mi in the SGV, that will get you a better quality sandwich in your hands in a fraction of the time. This Tom's Pastrami sandwich was the one! Really good pastrami with thick cuts, most pastrami around here just do slices so this type of cut was a god send in our area. However on this particular visit I watched one of the workers handling the meat go from one protein to another without changing his gloves, use a paper towel to wipe his gloves, then went back to meat. Then after that with 'wipes' gloves, touch the bread for the sandwiches. That is a serious health risk. And I was up charged for lemonade without even being notified it was an upcharge. I asked if it was included, told yes, then upcharged. When asking for names for a complaint, I was told no manager is on duty and they are not allowed to disclose that information.
