We normally drive from Modesto to Ripon to eat Gold dust pizza, which is known to be one of the greatest around the area. So when we heard they were here, in Modesto just down the street from us. We were super excited only to be disappointed that both times when we ordered the pizza crust was super flimsy as if it wasn't cooked thoroughly. I don't really get the hype about Gold Dust Pizza, so many seem to love it. I think their pizza is just ok, I've had it a handful of times, I've tried almost all locations. The staff and service is great, good ranch and good pizza dough. I also really like their antique theme. But what makes their pizza just ok for me personally is the amount of cheese. This hurts to leave a review like this and here's why. Gold Dust (Oakdale) & the Falcons Lair (Ripon) excellent food and the pizza wow!! I've not had a better pizza in the valley so was obviously excited for a Gold Dust Pizza in Modesto. I've ordered twice from Gold Dust in Modesto and both orders had serious issues; mixed up toppings, undercooked with grease permeating the pizza so much it was soggy and now two pizza's with missing toppings and overcooked/burnt crust. What is going on here?! Had to literally toss a few slices :( The Modesto branch is always crowded and busy..This is a good thing and makes me happy to see BUT..I think you all need to slow down and not compromise your brand and quality for quantity. I know you can make incredible food/pizza's as I've had it before. I hope this message finds you and you take it to heart before it's too late and Modesto loses a great food establishment. I think you just need to slow down and make sure folks are focused on the details for each ticket and the Pizzas coming out of your ovens and walking out your doors are up to the standards of the Gold Dust I know and love! I ordered pizza at 2:15 and the online app said it would be done around 2:40. I arrived at 2:45 and was told they couldn't find my order and it would be 20 more minutes. I waited 20 minutes and was then told they still couldn't find order and it would be 30 minutes. When I tried to tell them the situation I was asked "so what's your question?" The unprofessionalism was baffling. I did not end up getting my pizza until 4:20 and it was cold and wrong. They did not say sorry for any inconvenience and seemed irritated with every conversation. I came to Gold Dust Pizza on a strong recommendation from a friend who listed it among their top three restaurants in Modesto. After a grueling 10-mile run this morning, I figured tonight was the perfect time to finally give it a try. I called ahead to order a large Digger for pickup, only to arrive and find my order didn't exist in the system. No big deal--mistakes happen. The staff handled it well, even upgrading me to a Giant for the inconvenience. They had my pizza ready in about 15 minutes, which I appreciated. But that's where the goodwill ended. I made it home to a hangry wife, eager to dig in--only to open the box and find the wrong pizza. Instead of the Digger, they gave me the Gold Dust Combo, which might have been fine... except my family hates ham. And this pizza? It was bursting at the seams with it. Still, we decided to power through. I pulled at the first slice and it fell apart like a wet napkin. The toppings were piled so high in the middle that they turned 75% of the bread into a soggy, structureless mess. No crunch. No texture. Just a swamp of ham and cheese. Which might have been great if I were eating a sandwich. The only saving grace? The crust. The crust was fantastic. It had the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside with a satisfying chew on the inside. If not for that--and the staff being friendly--this would have been an easy one-star review. Unfortunately, great crust alone isn't enough to save a pizza that completely falls apart. Disappointed, to say the least. read more
