I order a bucket of shrimp and a walleye dinner. Total bill for carry out: $45.00. Unbelievable, it didn't even fill up a family of 3. What a ripoff. We could've went for a fish fry at a sit in restaurant for less, even all you can eat. The fish was medioce at best. I asked for extra tartar and cocktail sauce , I receive 3 tartar sauce. This is my favorite fried chicken place in Milwaukee. Your chicken is fried to order so either call ahead or wait on the bench outside. The staff is friendly, but on the let's get down-to-business side. They're not much for being chatty which is fine! The food is always moist without being greasy. I've also walked in late at night (they have late hours) and have seen them cleaning up the place. It's amazing that they fry food all day long and keep that place so immaculate. Pretty solid fried chicken at a good price. The staff was very friendly. I got the 4 piece dinner. Chicken was hot, crispy and juicy with great flavor. Two of my 4 pieces were not great from a meat perspective but the drum and breast I had were great. Will definitely be going back. read more

I've been driving by Gold Rush a few weeks now when I make my weekly grocery trip to Woodman's in Oak Creek. I saw chicken and ribs on the menu and finally decided to give it a try today. I had pleasant small talk with a lady picking up her order, so immediately that and the service received made for a pleasant experience. I'm a little jaded when it come to BBQ, I guess. I wasn't crazy about the sauce served on their chicken and ribs. Both were cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, so it had that going for it. Crinkle-cut fries were boring at best. Nice little neighborhood place. I feel guilty leaving a 3 star rating, but I'd be lying if I gave it 4. Enjoyable, but nothing I'll go out of my for for any time soon. read more

We've eaten from Gold Rush Chicken dozens of times in the past few years. Great place to feed a family fast. The chicken is really good and they will give you a bucket with exactly the pieces you like. The pizza is also pretty good. The fries are excellent!!! Two reasons this place isn't 5 stars....#1. The two guys that regularly work the counter for the past decade are ALWAYS rude to customers! It's almost comical sometimes. Every visit I find myself shaking my head about the over-the-top disgust that these guys show for their customers and asking myself why I go back again. #2. I know it happens elsewhere, but I've watched these guys drop food on the floor and put it in a bucket anyways. They've done it while I watched and not shown any regret. I always come in 10 minutes early and watch as they put my food together (you can see the whole kitchen from the counter). This place could be 4-stars easily, but the bitter contempt that the counter staff has for customers has it teetering on 2 1/2 to 3 for me. Again....Why do I go back? I've only had the chicken from Gold Rush, so I cannot comment on their other items.  I will say that they have the best fried chicken in Milwaukee, or at least the best that I have come across. I've been going in and ordering out from Gold Rush since I was a little 'un. Grew up with them as a staple "my parents worked all day & don't want to cook" delivery option in our house. If you're looking for legit authentic fried chicken this is your place. They're amazing. Don't let the tiny shopfront fool you, this place is PHENOMENAL for a good wholesome fried chicken dinner. I tend to bounce back and forth between their reg fried chicken and the bbq chicken because they're both just so. damn. good.! I'm allergic to cabbage & I deal with the hives & puffing up because I love their coleslaw and it's probably one of the best I've had. don't let that dinner roll go to waste either! I usually end up ordering extra because if I don't I end up stealing everyone else's, with some real butter & a lil honey they are mmm *chefs kiss*. You know that other national chain? The chicken is great. The fries are great. The place is a little small and looks kind of scruffy, but overall the food is great and so are the cashiers. The owner is a little prickly and could be a lot nicer on the phone and the delivery drivers practically throw the food at you when you order it. The prices are pretty reasonable, although the seafood buckets are a little too pricey (It's ALL frozen fish), in my opinion, for what you get. The chicken definitely makes it worth the stop. There's nowhere to sit and eat, but I don't know you'd really want to eat in anyway. Grab a bucket and do some couch surfing. You won't be disappointed in that. read more

Nostalgia makes me fond of Gold Rush. I used to live within walking distance while growing up. My grandmother LOVED Gold Rush, and as she lay in a hospital, in delirium, said, "you go to Gold Rush, and then come back here." Their fried chicken is the best in town, and they have tasty hot fudge ice cream sundaes to finish the meal of fried decadence. You feel as if you're eating real chicken, the breading isn't too salty, lightly coated, and pleasantly crispy. What a pleasant surprise! We decided to stop in as we were driving by on our way to another restaurant. We ordered 1/2 slab ribs and a lake perch dinner, and waited about 20 minutes as everything was put together. (This is a take out only place, with chairs for waiting but no tables.) Most other people had called their orders in. The staff was very pleasant. The ribs were wonderful - very tender and meaty. The lake perch dinner included 4 perch filets, a generous portion of fries, a dinner roll and coleslaw. It was plenty of food for 2 people. Another place that is really just ok. But, it is family owned and the food is fresh so who can argue with that. If you LOVE tasty fried chicken (and I do) it will get you by and satisfy your craving for it. These guys are a bunch of grease balls. They took my order and credit info and then said they couldn't deliver to me and hung up. I called back asking why they would take my credit card number and then tell me they wont deliver. The guy that answered the phone couldn't be any more unprofessional, with his screaming and swearing over the phone. We moved to the area 4 years ago and have been in search of the best fried chicken in the Milwaukee Area. So far Gold Rush wins. There are others that are good such as the Forum Family Restaurant in Greenfield and Champion Chicken in Milwaukee, but as far as we are concerned Gold rush is the best. Friends from Bay View told me to try it, they said the owner and his son are on site very day and the quality is impeccable. They have been in business for 57 years. we ordered a small bucket (8 pcs.) a pint of slaw and fries it was about $17.00. We wanted to eat it fresh so we asked for napkins and forks and headed to the local park by the lake. Not sure there is anything better than the smell of fried chicken? It was deliciously juicy and tender, but I think the seasoning is what makes it so addicting -- lightly salted with other seasonings I cannot describe other than perfect for my taste. read more
