Hard Pass on this one-- This Bagel Joint is a Train Wreck Stopped at Goldberg's Bagels & Deli in Hasbrouck Heights yesterday off Route 17... huge mistake! I've had bagels all over Jersey and New York -- and let's be honest, you practically have to try to make a bad bagel around here. Somehow, these geniuses pulled it off. Tasteless, overdone, and about as fresh as water from the Passaic River. The guy behind the counter looked irritated that I even existed. When I asked (politely) to bag my plain and everything bagels separately, he acted like I'd requested a Michelin-star tasting menu. Then -- and I'm not kidding -- he dumped the everything bagels in a tiny bag, reused that same greasy bag for the plain ones, and still managed to miscount the dozen. Hey man, if you hate your job, sit down and shut up -- don't take it out on the customers, you moron. Around here, most places toss in an extra bagel out of basic Jersey decency. Not this clown show. Cleanliness? Picture a gas-station bathroom with cream cheese. Counters sticky with who-knows-what, floor grimy, and an overall vibe of "we gave up a long time ago." Other customers looked trapped in their own bad decisions. Health inspector, if you're reading this, bring a hazmat suit. Between the surly staff, the filthy setup, and bagels that could double as hockey pucks, this dump gives Jersey bagel shops a bad name. Do yourself a favor -- keep driving. Would I recommend this business? No. It's on one of the major highways but there are plenty of other bagel shops nearby if you don't mind taking slightly extra few mins to make a turn into the neighbourhood for other better local bagel store. I just finished working on my night shift. I was extremely exhausted and all I wanted was a toasted garlic bagel with scallion cream cheese. I made sure we told the staff correctly that it was a toasted - garlic bagel - with - scallion - cream cheese. But it came with bell peppers instead. I hate the taste of bell peppers and I never liked it in my food, what more to say in my bagel. We were already half way to the airport. I didn't eat my bagel. I have gone here twice and got overcharged everytime. Just paid $15 for a bagel with cream cheese and a BLT. Literally watched the guy charge $6 for the bagel and asked about it. Ran the same order through online to see what it would come out to and was supposed to be less than $10. The sandwich was not bad I ordered a turkey on a roll toasted and it came with lettuce tomato salt and vinegar and mayo. The sandwich was pretty good I do feel like the price is a tad high for the size of the sandwich. But I will probably go and eat there again there is a variety on the menu and this is my first time discovering it. Just stopped here to grab a sandwich. I got a Bacon, Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a everything. I look and they use pre made bacon, you know the one that comes in the sealed plastic pack (yuck). That is a no no in my book. Come on, just get a cheaper real bacon at restaurant depot down the road. The bagel is very dense. No crunch on the outside. Like a hard bread. I had a very fresh chewy bagel at 5am! Maybe the best ones are when you have them fresh, but I loved my bagel. I got the onion with veggie cream cheese. The bagel has a wonderful crunch on the outside but chewy warm center. The veggie cream cheese was good too, lots of veggies and good flavor. If I could give an award to this bagel store it would say "Most okay-ist good bagel store" This bagel store was not bad but nothing impressed me either. Everytime I go back to Goldberg's its a bigger n bigger disappointment. This deli was walking distance from our hotel and was recommended by the staff. That was a mistake. I grew up in New York and I know what a good deli smells like when I walk in the door. This deli doesn't have that. Also doesn't have good bagels, they're not fresh and fluffy - gummy and tough- and the worst bialy I've ever had. Tough. I ordered a split buttered Bialy and I only wound up eating the center part and had to peel the hard outer edges off in order for it to be partially edible. The butter was half melted. Probably margarine. Gross. I'm going to post a picture of two bagels. One that we got from Bagel Box up the road which was more than a meal, delicious and fresh and fluffy, and the one that we got from Goldberg's. The one from Goldberg's is the one where the sandwich fillings look like they take up about a centimeter of the sandwich. The cashier has the helpful personality of a pit viper. It's overpriced. Outdated. Coffee is meh. Unless you're desperate to pay too much for bad food, I would avoid this place. Believe the mixed reviews and reviews that remark that probably at one point in time this was a good place but I'm guessing that one point in time was sometime in the late 80s early 90s. Bagel store in a mini mall with tons of parking. There's a seating area with a few tables, where you can eat your food. I've tried a few things from here in the past, which included an omelette and numerous bagels. The service here is pretty fast. The omelettes are pretty good and the bagels are very fresh. The bagels here are weirdly priced though. I think its 95¢ for the bagel and its $2.25 for the bagel, toasted with cream cheese. So either, its the toasting or the cream cheese, maybe both, that makes the bagel go from 95¢ to $2.25 (a difference of $1.30), quite a big jump in price. I'd guess its the cream cheese that causes the price increase, but I'm not sure. Quite expensive cream cheese, if it is. read more

I grew up in in the area, and have been going to Goldberg's for years. One of my favorite things while growing up was bagels and football on a Sunday, and that tradition started at Goldberg's. My usual order was always an everything or sesame bagel with cream cheese, and a nesquick. Simple (and possibly childish) but it hit the spot... That was the past, and what I learned from a recent visit down memory lane, is that unfortunately sometimes things/places change, and not for the better. My past few visits to Goldberg's have been sub-par but my last one was so below the level that I expect from Goldberg's I felt the need to post about it. Upon walking into the store I was greeted with total chaos. There was no clear line, and things were moving slower than slow. Being busy is never something I'd hold against a store, but when half the staff is standing around talking instead of taking orders there is no pass. Things got worse once I got into my car and opened the wrapper containing my bagel... when you order a bagel with cream cheese, it's usually nice when they put cream cheese on it. I'll be the first to admit I like a lot of cream cheese on my bagel, but this is so below even a normal level it's sad. I'll let the picture do the rest of the talking for me. My friend Lisa came here for a sandwich and told me that they had the best bagels ever I was a little confused because I thought she liked the place down the Blackwood BGL and she said that this place was much better when I walked in it was very jersey style and for the first time in my life I was able to buy and try a rainbow bagel I even bought one for my son Because I know he's just going to absolutely adore it There was quick service it was clean there was a lot of places to sit in there was parking outside so it's definitely recommended my friend enjoyed her sandwich a lot she got turkey with balsamic and Swiss and lettuce and it was a big mess and she was driving her brand-new range Rover and it was food all over the place and I thought she was going to get us into a car accident. Especially with me in the car because I'm in no condition to be even turning my neck because I've had some recent plastic surgery on my face I also shouldn't even be eating bagels because they are hard to chew but these were quite nice and lovely I'm just very happy that I got an actual one for my son he's only 10 he's never seen a rainbow bagel before. read more

This place messes up my order every single time, I'm starting to think they are doing it on purpose. Whether it's adding ketchup when I don't ask for it or forgetting the cheese, they seem to lack the ability to make a a simple Bacon Egg and Cheese. Not to mention the guy who works the "bagels-to-go" line is not only rude, but also a health hazard. He is blowing his nose and whipping his face at every time I go there, I've spoken to friends with a similar experience. The only redeeming quality is the bagels, but in North Jersey you can throw a rock and hit 5 spots you can get a decent bagel. We stopped by here twice for breakfast, got two humungous sized bagels with lox for under $6, three of us ate from it and we still had leftover, that's how big the bagels here are. The lox within the bagel was excellent, nice smokey salmon and generously filled. I read the other reviews about the service but I guess I was lucky both times and got excellent service. They take credit/debit cards BUT, your total has to be more than $10. read more
