Fernando is so amazing and got more than his hands full dealing with my stuff; a two-bedroom house stuffed into a one-bedroom apartment! He and Francisco were more than prompt, when I called and told him that others in my apartment complex had muscled in on my reserved elevator and truck parking space. He showed up and helped me and the apartment's security bully our way into what should have been our space. There was an incredibly complicated, monstrous IKEA wardrobe that I assembled in my bedroom and Francisco figured out could be removed with minimal dis-assembly. They removed some doors, but got it out of a tight spot AND into my new place, up too many stairs. Brilliant! It was liking watching ballet dancers with boxes. After that, it was a whirlwind of hefting too much stuff deftly into the bright green truck. I helped as much as I could (which seemed to be appreciated) but they did the lion's share and didn't even grumble about having to drive to Napa. Staying after it got dark, Fernando was a perfectionist in making sure the wardrobe was re-assembled with doors hanging perfectly and even helped me hang an over-sized painting in a difficult, stairway hall AFTER he was off the clock. And I got a pretty fabulous hug at the end of the day that made it that made me want to move again! read more

They came to my house, packed all my crap (I was too lazy to pack my own stuff up), then went to my fiance's & loaded her crap (she was less lazy than I & had already packed her stuff) & then moved the truck load to our new place. This was the best money I've ever spent on a local service. 1) These guys were on top of their schedule, they called 10 minutes before they were due to show up 2) They were super professional and did a fabulous job. 3) Really worked hard to move quickly, very intense. 4) Packed and unpacked for me. These guys deliver a great moving experience. Who knew it was possible? They showed up on time, quickly marked the items to be loaded in each room, and offered free wardrobes and plastic bins for any items that might not have found a cardboard home yet. Suddenly, our apartment became an efficient blur of protective blankets and plastic wrap. Francisco and another smiling gentlemen (who would like to remain nameless, wink) loaded and unloaded our stuff very professionally. It was amazing! At one point, they started using some random Cirque de Soleil-like techniques (and I am sure multiple laws of physics) to load our boxes. They would stack 4-5 cardboard boxes (even heavy ones), wrap them together, and carry them ALL magically on their backs like it only weighed 2 pounds. Initially, I felt rather guilty watching them sweat and grunt up and down two flights of stairs. But then, I reminded myself that if we hadn't hired movers and our friends had volunteered instead, our day would have gone an entirely different direction. The move would have started late, things would have probably been broken, and bitching about being sweaty and tired is likely. Then beer drinking would commence and all progress would come to a drunken halt by 2pm. And that's ok...because I love my friends and they don't happen to be professional movers...but they definitely have the drinking down to a science. Golden Bay Relocation is the real deal. You can trust these guys to do the job right for a fair price. Think of all the stress typically associated with moving day. Packing and unpacking boxes is crappy enough, right? Not just movers. Problem solvers. Fernando and Juan were not only fast and energetic, but smart. These guys took a couch that had no business fitting into the room I wanted it in, and after some minor deconstruction/reconstruction, got it done. Anyone else would've given up. This aspect alone was worth their services. And OK, so I wasn't fully packed/ready by the time the guys arrived, but instead making me feel like a lazy bum (which would've been warranted), they said "no problem, we're going to help you with all of this." Their positive attitude and energy towards what is probably one of life's least enjoyable activities made the day that much smoother. Their communication should be held up as an example to other customer service based companies: VERY detailed initial/orientation email, with multiple follow ups via phone/email, and a call the morning of the move with an update on timing. Everything was just as they described and communicated. I didn't compare rates vs. other movers, and after this experience, it wouldn't have made a difference to me - these guys were worth every single penny. When we were looking for movers for our move from Alameda to the city we (naturally) looked on Yelp and could not believe the sheer volume of five-star reviews for Golden Bay Relocation. We booked them immediately and, I have to say, the Yelp community did not do us wrong. Cesar, Carlos and Manuel worked their butts off and continually blew us away with what can only be described as "feats of strength." I thought seeing them carry multiple boxes of books on their back was impressive, but when Cesar and Carlos effortlessly brought our commercial-grade elliptical down the stairs from the bedroom I did a double-take (and some bowing too.) Once we got to our new place there was not quite enough space on the street for the truck and ramp, even with a parking permit obtained from the city, so the guys had to move the truck about a dozen times to allow our neighbors' access to their garage. And each and every time they were pleasant and speedy about it. I hate moving but having Golden Bay do all the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) made it 100% better. We were with these guys all day long and I cannot emphasize enough how hard they work and how pleasant they are to be around too. I would book them again, no question. read more

He rounded down when it was close on supplies or time and offered to move some things off the clock just before he left. I'll happily add mine to the list of glowing reviews... This is my second time using Golden Bay, and this experience was even better than the first. I moved literally *a block* from my old apartment to a much smaller (but cozy!) one. I had A LOTTA STUFF! From the very start, Ruth had the foresight to let me know that my location would be tough because it goes right along the Muni line. She suggested that I secure some spaces by getting a permit, providing me with the number to call and what to ask for. This was excellent advice, but it was the parking permit guy that let me down ($144 bucks later!). The space they secured for me was still too narrow for Muni to pass, and Fernando and his assistant had to move the truck, not once, but twice, finally having to take the risk of double parking. It was a nightmare for everyone, but they dealt with it with a clear amount of experience and calm. I was the only one flipping out... It was a very long day, but they used a lot of intelligence and experience in their actions. They were very conscientious of my belongings, warned me about pitfalls before they happened, and consistently asked where things should go instead of just plunking them down. Nice guys too. Golden Bay...for all your haulin'-from-one-apartment-to-another needs! I used Golden Bay earlier this month for my move to SF from Santa Cruz. They were prompt, helpful, and friendly. The movers even picked up a furniture order I'd made before heading to the new place. The best part about my move was when it came time to assemble my platform bedframe. Not only did they offer to assemble the bed, but, when I figured out parts were missing for the frame, they rigged up my bed with their own bolts BETTER than I'd ever done with the bolts I lost! Amazing! We live in the East Bay, and I was a bit worried about any extra charges they may add for having to cross the bridge, but it was totally worth it! These guys are amazing! They were right on time, and were there for the exact amount of time they said they would be. Furniture was padded and wrapped and tight curves on the stairs were also padded and wrapped. I've never seen someone carry boxes like these guys did. They've truly figured out the quickest and easiest way to move someone. And we moved from a 3rd floor walkup to a 3rd floor walkup...they never once complained. Plus, they came in under the estimated cost, which was awesome!! If you're looking for movers, don't hesitate to use them. They're careful, quick and professional. A few tips: They will start moving things quickly, so make sure everything is ready to go. Referred by a friend, I was a little apprehensive about hiring movers for the first time. The Yelp ratings were helpful in pushing me over the edge, and in the end I can't imagine ever making a move without a company as efficient and professional as these guys. The woman on the phone (Ruth, I believe) was very helpful, informative, knew what she was talking about, and got me a move date and estimate that was accurate and itemized. It was a pleasure. She sent out an information packet as promised and had be clear on all the steps and responsibilities. When the movers arrived (I'll have to look up their names) on Memorial Day 08, they started immediately and had me moved across town in 4 hours. (Efficiency comparison: my roommate with 8 friends present took twice as long just to *load* their rental truck. Ok, unfair comparison as nobody present did this for a living). I still have not found anything damaged and they even helped me move a few larger pieces of furniture out to the curb for pickup. It was a very positive experience which left me elated. Golden Bay Relocation is wonderful... period. Casualties of the cliche SF gentrification eviction... my wife, myself and our (at the time) 16 month old were *very* attentively and gently relocated from the city up to Sonoma County. As a painter and filmmaker, my wife and I'd been living in a wonderfully unconventional space... in fact, it was an old general store type space with the shopkeeper's residence in the back. Ruth and Fernando were good enough to come over and check out our space and what we had. They were wonderful at discussing exactly what it would take to pack up our breakables and valuables (including an extensive art collection and a massive library of fine art and collectible books as well as several mid-century modern furnishings and platform bed as heavy as a cargo ship!) and get us into our new home... They were both *very* thorough and professional and it gave us great comfort knowing we were commissioning such an attentive team. BUT the actual move date was what really touched my heart. Ruth not only came over to help comfort our little one on such an emotional day, but she ended up staying on with the team all the way till the very end of the move... From what I could gather this was far, far above and beyond what an Office / Project Manager would ever be expected to do. The rest of the team were such hustlers (the good kind). These three sturdy men hit the ground running and didn't stop until furniture was perfectly placed in our new home and sheets were on the bed. It was a *very* long day for them, but as swift as the were, they were equally cautious and tender handed with *all* of our belongings... If you're still reading this, I'll go ahead and write what I should've many many lines ago... If you have valuables and precious things to relocate, you'd be foolish not to put Golden Bay Relocation at the top of your list. We moved from out of state in a POD, and hired Golden Bay Relocation to pick up our POD and move it into our new apartment. Fernando wasn't there, but he is who my bf had dealt with in the days leading up to the actual move- super helpful. They were on time, friendly, fast, and best of all LESS EXPENSIVE BY A LOT!!! Being able to pick up all our stuff without us being there was a lifesaver, and they repeatedly offered to put furniture together for me (I declined for various reasons). They also have a box of screws in case a screw comes off one of your chairs, furniture, etc. so when a screw came out of a chair we had, they just whipped out the screw box and put it back together! They were also very clear in pricing, and recognizing that I was in a rush to leave, worked with me to add an extra guy (not originally planned) to get the move done faster. This was the first time we paid for movers, and if we move again we will definitely use them again! read more

Had a great experience with Golden Bay Relocation last week. They were on time, efficient, careful, and just all around pleasant to work with. Even the facilities manager at our new building remarked that they were very fast and did a great job (not being rough with boxes, didn't mar the floors or walls, etc.). It's often difficult to find a moving crew you can trust. You spend several hours filling out quotes, talking to people on the phone, reading yelp reviews and asking friends for referrals. My girlfriend and I eventually narrowed it down to two different moving companies: Golden Bay and another that will remain un-named. While the other moving company was about a hundred dollars cheaper, they failed to communicate with us. They did not answer our questions or ask any of their own - which was equally as alarming. Fernando on the other hand, spoke to us several times over the course of a few days and thoughtfully asked questions about our move. It was at this point that we realized it was a no brainer to move forward with them. He and his crew were equally as impressive during the move. They took great care of our stuff, were polite, easy to work with and moved FAST. I used to work in landscaping, painting, roofing and for a short time - a moving company, and have never seen a crew move that quickly! Everything was damage-free with the exception of my dresser. There was a small fracture in the wood towards the leg that prevented the last drawer from closing. I reported this to Golden Bay with pictures and Fernando was at my apartment the next day to fix the damage. It's good as new now! The way I see it, things may happen to your stuff when you move it across the city (and up 3 flights of stairs) no matter who you use. The important thing is for the moving company to have your back in these situations. Golden Bay certainly did. I would use them again without hesitation. Thanks guys! read more

Okay first let me start with the good parts: the workers are all great, they were careful with good attention to detail, moved quickly, didn't break anything, and treated some very fragile antique furniture very well. From what I can tell the scheduling and dispatch is a mess, though. We were packing and moving a three-bedroom, single family home. We were told it would take two days with four movers or one day with five movers, so I booked five movers. When they showed up day-of, the foreman on-site showed me that someone on their end had changed my reservation to four movers instead of five and raised the price. I showed him my booking confirmation and he said he'd honor the price, and also get another mover out within an hour (again, great workers). Unfortunately "within an hour" kept getting pushed back so it ended up being four movers for the first nine hours of the move (8:30 am to 5 pm), and then two more movers showed up at 5 pm. It was around that time that they let me know they were definitely not going to be completing it that day and I'd need to call back to schedule more time to finish the next. That day, the movers ended up wrapping up around 10:30 pm, for a 14 hour move. It was pretty clear that, even if they had originally had five workers like they were supposed to, there was no way it ever would have been a one-day move. The second day is when things really started to go off the rails. They told me they'd have a crew of 4 out sometime between 2 pm and 6 pm to finish the move. At 5, they called me to tell me that they were having truck trouble and it would actually be at 7. At 7:30, I hadn't heard anything so I called them, and they told me it would actually be 9 pm. At 8:30, they called me and said it would actually be 9:30 and they would call be 20 minutes ahead of time. At 9:30 I still hadn't heard anything so I called back again, this time they told me they'd be there at 10. That is when they showed up, so our move started at 10 pm. When they got here, instead of a crew of 4, they had sent a crew of just 2. The foreman looked around the house and said "we definitely need more than 2" and was able to call some other workers and get some more out, but this is again another case of dispatch/scheduling dropping the ball and the workers having to make up for it. The move that night took 4 hours so they finished at 2 am, by the time the truck was loaded up and everyone left it was almost 3 am. Additionally, I was told there was an extra $50/person surcharge since the move went past midnight. All told it was an 18-hour move, from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm on Sunday, and 10 pm to 2 am on Monday. Very different from the single day move that was originally communicated. read more

Moving - nobody likes to do it. This was the second time moving in one year. I dreaded the day I'd have to move, but on the bright side, I was moving into my very own condo! Upon searching for movers on Yelp, I came across several that had great reviews, but when I called them they either could not be reached or were very rude over the phone. Alas, I came across Golden Bay Relocation. Ruth was very pleasant over the phone and very easy to talk to. She understood that the moving process can be difficult, and made sure to cover all questions I may have had. Fast forward to moving day (the day after Christmas).. I'm at work.. leaving my partner to handle the move alone. Fernando and his team arrived early and had the truck packed in one hour!! The whole process took less that 3hrs (we moved to Oakland from Daly City) and was as easy as moving can be. I fired off probably dozens of requests to the first two or three pages of companies that turned up in search results --- Golden Bay Movers replied first and had the best rates of anyone else I'd seen, so I booked them, hoping for the best. Fernando and Juan arrived right on time yesterday am and helped me move all of my belongings from my apartment into a storage unit. They were incredibly fast -- even taking apart my entire IKEA bed frame (with maybe 50 different pieces...) and also extra, extra careful with some of my treasured family heirloom pieces. Update: About 6 months after our move, I received a call from Chloe, from Golden Bay Movers' Customer Care Department. She apologized for reaching out again so late, and assured me that their company had gone through an organizational overhaul where they hired new people in their customer care team, reviewed previous complaints, and were restructuring the company for the better. She asked me how they could compensate me for my previous bad experience. After consulting a contractor to get a quote for the repairs needed for the damage done to our house during the move, I conveyed the information to the Customer Care team, and they ended up reimbursing us for the amount of the quote. In our case, I do feel like they really listened to us this time around and wanted to ensure that we were satisfied with the outcome. However, the reason why I only added one extra star to my review is because I haven't used them again since, and really can't speak to the quality of their current movers. I really hope that they have reverted back to the stellar moving company they used to be. I would be sure to check out the reviews in 2021 to see what others' experiences are, since we moved at the end of 2020. read more

I signed up for Yelp just to write this review. I moved locally, and had a tough time debating the value of professional movers. I spend $150 on jeans, but cringe every time I have to pay a whopping $1.50 for a washing machine, so I'm strange with how I spend money. But hiring Golden Bay Relocation was worth every penny. They called before they showed up, they handled strange sized items with ease, they moved a wine fridge, 50 bottles of wine and tons of wine glasses without breaking anything, they took apart and put back together my furniture for me and placed everything in my new place where I wanted it. This all happened before lunch. The place I moved out of had a long sidewalk with multiple stairs to the parking lot, the place I moved into is on a giant hill with thorny rose bushes around the door, not everything was packed nicely AND I reserved a primo Saturday moving slot. All things considered, they should have charged more. But they didn't, they actually came in UNDER what Fernando had estimated over the phone when I told him how much stuff I had, so the least I can do is leave a 5-star review and at the same time hopefully help someone else out find the best moving company in the bay area. read more
