I can't say anything about the food other Stan it smelled good. Why? because I was turned me away at the door at 8:57, even though the front door was wide open and the sign still said OPEN. A young man dispassionately said they were closed and even though I showed him the local time on my phone. He simply turned the sign around in the door to "closed" and walked away. Thinking J had made a mistake, I double checked the Saturday hours of. business online and they're supposedly open from 11 AM to 11 PM. I went back to the hostess station. A very nice waitress came over while "Mr Congeniality" stood from afar, slowly sauntering over. The waitress politely explained the hours are 9am-9pm. Coming off the train from Durango someone suggested going here for great pizza and beer. This is a small Place so if your coming off the train, run! Quick service, we had our food within 10 mins of ordering. We had 3 pizzas and 3 sandwiches. The lobster pizza was outstanding. Down side was 2 of the 6 beers were already sold out. I am noticing a pattern in some of my favorite restaurant haunts. And I think it is due to the aftershocks of the pandemic. Places that I would have rated 5 stars pre-pandemic, are not anything like they were! Case in point is Golden Block Brewery in Silverton. This used to be our go-to place in Silverton. Excellent beer, really good pizza, and fun, but efficient, servers. All three of these areas have deteriorated to where I won't return. Our first indication things were not like before was when we entered the half full dining area at 5:00 and when we asked for a table against the wall, the hostess said 'No! these tables are reserved for 4 people and we expect a crowd and need the space'. So we had to sit close to the hot pizza ovens. Of course, no crowd materialized and those tables were empty the whole time we were there. The beer is OK, but nothing special. And they didn't have their famous brown ale, which I thought was a standard beer of theirs. We were served our beer in a plastic cup! I went to the bar to ask why they don't serve beer in glasses. She said plastic is for outside. But we aren't outside! So she apologized and instead of pouring a new beer, she poured the same beers out from the plastic cups into glasses, somewhat ruining the effervescence of the beer. The pizza is a joke. We ordered the tree hugger pizza, which is vegetarian, and the vegetables were so small I couldn't make out what was what. It's like they sprinkled them on, chopped and cut to such tiny pieces they had little flavor. The pizza as a whole was a piece of bad bread with sprinkled vegetables. WTF? It's a shame. I understand it's a struggle to run a restaurant these days, but I don't think it's an excuse for bad service and bad food. read more

We were GOING to eat here. We were waiting on a table & the hostess came and told us there was a large table available & walked away. We got up and followed her. We saw that she was cleaning off the table so we just stood there. A man working in the prep area, said "just chill... give her a minute to clean it off" We said she never said anything to us, we didn't know if we were supposed to follow or wait. He repeated that we needed to chill. So we turned around and walked out. Absolutely unprofessional and rude. read more

We were so happy this restaurant was open even though the power was out in the town. We were seated quickly for a large group and our food also came out quickly even though it was packed! The pizza was amazing! I wouldn't order the salad again as it wasn't anything special. The crust was perfectly chewy without any burnt spots. The red sauce was better than the white sauce. Snow cat was my favorite with the pineapple. I would definitely come back here and recommend it for being in Silverton. read more

OH YuMMMy! This was recommended to us by a waitress who used to live in Durango. We took the train ride up and made a beeline to Golden Block and got seated right away. We ordered the Gold Miner, a root beer and a red ale. The pizza was very crispy and airy. The crust held up wonderfully and had a nice flavor. The pizza flavors were a taste bud satisfying blast. The red ale was a great complement to the flavor of the pizza. I wish I lived closer. can I give them a 6 star? Wish I could. read more

The pizza we were served looked nothing like the pizza in the photos online. This was a frozen pizza. The crust of the so-called Margherita was dense and, well, just like any cheap pizza you could buy at a chain grocery store. We saw frozen pizza crusts stacked up on the counter in plastic wrap. This was easily the worst pizza I've ever eaten at a restaurant. The house salad came with balsamic dressing that was 98% olive oil. I don't usually write negative reviews because I don't like dwelling on disappointing meals but we were pretty unhappy with this one. Come on, Golden Block, you advertise as a wood fired pizza place, even if this was a bad day, it's easy to make a real pizza dough, it's like 3 ingredients. Such good food!! Definitely snag the wood fired wings. We got garlic Parmesan and mango habanero and they nailed both. Sauces were bomb.

I stopped by this restaurant with a couple of friends on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a couple of panini's, the artichoke dip and a pizza to share. My panini was okay, probably would not order again. If you stop here go for the pizza. It was delicious, the dough was perfectly cooked and crispy. The kitchen staff was vibrant and seemed to really take pride in their work. We also ordered some shots that were on special, I had the thin mint one, it was so good! Unfortunately this is where the positive review ends, I would say this place is a 4 for food but a 1 for service. I have NEVER received such horrible service! Our waitress was so rude. She had about 4 tables in her section. We watched as she greeted every other table with a smile and happily took their order. However we were met with snappy, and bitter. It seemed like an absolute bother to serve us. She basically tossed our food on the table and did not check on us once, we were out of water for a good part of our meal. I don't think it's a coincidence the other tables were white patrons and we were not. It's unfortunate people like this still exist in today's society. We will not be returning to this restaurant solely based on the service. read more

Took a drive to Silverton and found a new place for lunch. Partner ordered a "flight" and enjoyed all of them. Lunch meal was an order of wings, a salad and a panini. We enjoyed it all. Dessert was a churro "donut." Also very good. read more

We were in Silverton for the week and frequented a number of restaurants in order to spread the love. Golden Block is my favorites of those we visited. We are going back for the second time tonight. From the service to the food, everything was great. My wife and I split a Day Hiker pizza and the Clear Lake salad. Both were amazing, including the leftovers the next day. We were very surprised at how quick the food came up. If you're coming to Silverton make sure to eat here. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. I ordered the half panini chicken sandwich. When they say half, they mean it. The sandwich had two measly slivers of chicken and it was mashed down to only a quarter inch high. Service was terrible. The sandwich cost $9.50 and sales tax was 10.4 percent. read more

Our second evening in Silverton and my dad and I ate at a second Silverton Brewery. I'd say come for food but not drinks. I was quite happy with both the pizza and the cup of soup that I got here. I'd say the pizza is better here than at Avalanche, but the beer at Avalanche is better than here. Okayyyy I see you Golden Block Brewery and I am impressed! What a gem of a brewery & eatery in the middle of a epic little mountain town. We stopped in town after coming down the alpine loop and was in dire need of liquid gold refreshment and grub and we couldn't be happier with our experience at the Golden Block Brewery. Hosts were friendly and super welcoming of us and our dogs, outdoor seating was great and spacious, service was top notch and the pizza, WOW, so good. Almost ordered another to take for the road. We've been coming up to Silverton for almost two decades. The Golden block brewery has always been one of our go-to places. Went to go get a couple pizzas to go, and the dough didn't rise it was flat and undercooked and heavy. As a baker, I knew that the wasn't any leavening in it not only did it not rise but it did not even taste like it had yeast in it. Upon taking it back, the owner said, it was because it was so dry up here. Now I live in Arizona, you want to talk about 1% humidity or less? And I still get my stuff to rise provided that there's yeast or other leavening agents put in it. As I stated I'm a baker, but I also make pizza dough sourdough pizza dough sourdough bread etc in addition to regular breads so I understand the process and I know what it looks like. There was no leavening agents aka yeast put into this pizza dough. Doubt I'll ever go back because I was lied to about why the pizzas were coming out trying to use the arrid conditions as to why the pizzas was flat. Not only can you see the process of yeast because the chemical reaction is visual, but you can also taste and smell yeast. update: yes in June and July humidity can be high because off monsoons just like here! But the rest of the year it's low!!! Extremely low. And yes, I use a wood fire oven! Frequently! There was no yeast in your crust, I didn't order gluten free. Own the error! read more

We came by bus left by train as most of the tourists in Silverton do. Happened on this place at the lunch rush. Hostess put our name on the list and texted my cell less than 10 minutes later that our table was ready. They know the tourist business is their "bread and butter" and hustle like crazy and that they really want to serve you. We had salad and pizza and both were delicious. Now this is my second time coming here. The pizza is really really good, so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt & try it again. But the customer service is HORRIBLE. Molly ,the owner,is extremely rude & I feel like I'm always in a rush to eat. The first time we came w the Durango train they were rushing us out since they had a long line waiting outside. The second time they didn't get our pizza order correct, which is understandable it happens, but the manager/owner came & literally yanked pizza from my table after our waiter had told us that it was okay & we could keep it. I don't know about anyone, but to me customer service is everything. Especially if you're the business owner. The pizza can be great but just because of that I would never come back!!! read more
