The first time I came the restaurant was pretty busy & she was just worried about getting people in & out. We felt super rushed to order & finish our food. We were literally still eating (a couple pieces of pizza left) & they were already taking our plates off the table, giving us our tab. The second time they brought us the wrong pizza, my kids were already eating a slice, without knowing it was the wrong pizza, & Molly walked up to the table & took the plate where my kids already had pizza & the whole pizza away from the table. Even though its delicious, I'm very disappointed with the arrangement of the sitting and skipping over you after waiting over 10 minutes for someone to come and attend you and serving others as soon as they arrive. This is a great new find in Silverton. They have good pizza (though the thicker crust style is not my preference). A full bar and good brews make it the place to go! Good salads too if you're looking for a lighter alternative. The ambiance is awesome. It's very in keeping with the mining history of the town but without the old and dirty feel that many places have. read more

We stopped in here during our visit to Silverton looking for pizza and beer. Pizza and beer at this brewery were OK, but service was terrible. We waited for 15 minutes to get our second round of beers after our server finally noticed that our glasses from the first round were empty. Our server walked by several times during this period without even acknowledging us or giving an update on when we'd get our drinks. Also to note, with the mask requirement junk going on because of COVID-19, all patrons were required to wear masks to enter, but what about the employees?? The guy cooking the pizzas wasn't wearing one and the bartenders had them on intermittently. Shouldn't it not be "do as I say, not as I do?" If your employees aren't going to wear masks then patrons shouldn't have to either. Either you're 100% in on the COVID precautions or you're not. read more

I've worked in kitchens professionally for 13 yrs....pizza is pretty good with a nice crispy crust but the breadsticks were underwhelming as were the sauces (don't expect more than a 2oz serving cup for your table). The world's 2nd saddest french dip with like 3 slices of beef and possibly cheese on a corner of it... Some nice beer selections. My biggest issue is that we had been one of two tables and there were probably 6 workers at the bar and they were more interested in one another than their tables. Aside from that, decent meal (if you order right) maybe slightly overpriced but when you're in BFE mountainside what can you expect? read more

I don't understand how this place is not a five star restaurant! The crust is hands down the BEST crust I have ever had (and I've had a lot of pizza). I got the Day Hiker and my husband got the Outdoor Enthusiast. Both were fantastic! All the ingredients were fresh and they didn't skimp on any! We did not try any of the beers, so I can't give any feedback on that. I will say, the bathroom was nice and clean as well (always a positive)! read more

This restaurant has amazing pizza and beer! The service was good, and there are outside and inside seatings. However, the outside tables are not cleaned by anyone but yourself. Arrived on a hot day with five people and two dogs. Asked if we could sit on the patio. The host pointed us in that direction and we sat. After 10 minutes with no sign of a server, I got the host's attention and asked if he could put up the umbrella since we were baking in the sun. (The patio umbrellas were locked.) He said he'd check, then showed up a minute later to say, no, he couldn't do it because they were people on the patio already. "Yes, I know," I said, "We're some of those people." Asked to speak to the manager who wandered out of the back office with very much of a "Don't give a crap" attitude. He gave me the same answer, i.e., there were people out there already (how would that possibly even matter at 9,000' with alpine sun?), then reluctantly offered to raise the umbrella. "No thanks," I said and took our business to Avalanche Brewing, which lacked umbrellas but where the staff was extremely competent and helpful (unlike the host at Golden Block who reacted to almost every question I asked as though I were asking him to do advanced calculus) and went out of their way to help our dogs. read more

We were warned by several locals not to eat here. We were warned that the service was bad and the toppings meager. We should have listened. The service was so unfriendly and checked out. Our table of 8 felt like we were an inconvenience and the staff would have prefered us not to be there. The toppings were so minimal! We bought a pepperoni pizza. It was important to me to get LOTS of pepperoni so I asked to add extra for an additional cost. There was still only 2 pepperonis per slice! Also tried a gluten free pizza and two others. We ate at the brewery yesterday. We typically eat at Handlebar's when we go to Silverton, but we decided to try something new. We liked the beer that we had and our friendly waitress. We ordered their panini with chicken. It was bland, dry, and partially toasted. The salad we chose was only slightly better. The ambience was just so-so. I do have to say that the pizza being served around us looked good. I'm pretty sure that next time we will go back to Handlebar's. The food and ambiance are much better there. read more

My friend recently turned 21 and the employees and manager of this place treated her VERY disrespectfully. The staff would glare at her after having only ONE drink ,then said to her after waiting over 30 minutes that she needs to take a break. Delicious food at the Golden Block Brewery! Enjoyed a traditional style pizza called the Rock Hound! It was large enough for my husband and I to share I would also recommend the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer! The pesto sticks were also a delicious appetizer (I am not a pesto fan but friends said they were great!). The service from our waitress was great as well! The pizza and beer are great. The service leaves much to be desired. Here's the problem I had. They had 8 beers on tap, but the only offered flights of 5 beers. You would think it would be easy to add 3 more beers to the flight. This concept really boggled the serving staff. My server simply wouldn't do it. So I went to the bar where another server asked to help. I explained my problem and she helped me out, but not before consulting who I assume was the manager on how to do it. Kudos for Golden Block for staying open year round for us winter loving folks! The pizza is great and brewed IPAs have great flavor. I was a big fan of the Golden Bock - a lighter ale. The Poughkeepsie panini was fantastic and the dipping sauce with it added a punch. I also liked the shout out to the Hudson River town in the name! The corn chowder was a little too cheesy for my preference but the potato chowder was spot on. We are here twice in two days - and not just because it was one of the only places open! My husband and I stopped in for a beer and pizza after taking the 'million dollar highway' over from Ouray. My husband ordered the stout which he really enjoyed and I ordered the IPA which I wasn't impressed by. As others have mentioned, at least half of their beers were out. We ordered the rock crawler pizza with white sauce and it was delicious! The pizza came out fast and was enough to share between the 2 of us. Our server was friendly enough at first but we were sort of surprised when she abruptly came to our table as soon as we finished our pizza and whipped out our bill and told us the total. Pretty weak. We were extremely disappointed after reading the yelp reviews about the wood fired pizza. (We are thinking that we are some of the only reviewers here who have ever had decent food.) Soggy crust, unseasoned tomato paste for sauce, minimal bland cheese, minimal meat, some of the meat is very questionable "sausage" chunks which are barely cooked through. To top it off, my beer was the weakest IPA I have ever tasted. Literally tasted like water was added. Add to this that the cook, dishwasher, and bartender venture out to smoke right outside the doorway in regular rotation. Trust me, if you know good food, stay away. Very possibly the worst pizza I have ever seen come out of a wood fired oven. The toppings are of dubious quality, but that usually just makes for forgettable pizza, not inedible pizza. The crust here is what is unrecoverable: hard, stale texture with absolutely no flavor. It's like eating sawdust. I'd say they need a new recipe, but I find it hard to fathom that there's even a recipe this bad. I think they're probably just buying some generic pre-made pizza dough and expecting it to work in a wood-fired oven. I could barely choke down half my pizza. They wrapped it up for me (which I don't recall asking for), and I tossed it in the nearest trash can after leaving. At least there's one positive: it made me kind of appreciate the mediocre pizza they have at Avalanche. This is still one of the cooler spots to hang out in Silverton, and the service was decent, so I can't give it one star (I'm even tempted to give it three, because pretty much all the food in Silverton sucks). Drinks were never refilled, we had to share silverware even after asking for more, and the food was expensive for portions size. We took a ride on the Silverton Train from Durango. It was beautiful site. The train ride was about 3.5 hours long and we were hungry. We have been Brewery hoping later and Yelped GBB and it had some really good reviews. So we decided to walk our hungry butts there and try it out. We generally have our son...so when we don't have him, what do we do?. We eat at the bar. Well the pizza was really good. Kind of tasted like an awesome version of frozen pizza. We got ours with green chili and added a nice flavor to it. So I am rating the pizza (and my husbands beer) a 4 to 4.5. His beer was Kolsch and came with a blueberry at the bottom, which was really cool and tasty. I would rate the service at the bar...maybe a 3. Our bartender seemed temperamental and didn't have much of a personality. Even the little small talk we had with him seemed painful for him. I think next time I will definitely get seated and get waited on by one of the girls. Impressed with the pizza though. read more

Unfortunately this review is primarily for the service, which is a shame because the food is pretty good. We came here later in the evening and it didn't seem that busy really. There was no greeters and we weren't acknowledged while we were awkwardly standing in the front. Come to find out you can seat yourself. Our server, Ernesto finally arrived after we had enough time to know what we wanted, only to take drink orders. We had to speed up the process and get beer at the bar ourselves (the bartender was great, by the way). We ordered 2 pizzas and somehow the second was missed somehow, even though they order the food on an app right in front of you... So I finally got my pizza, about a half hour after all the others at my table finished, and just got a 'sorry'. Yeahhhhhhhh thanks for the experience. Then he took our card and forgot to give it back, and even another server mentioned he wasn't supposed to have this many tables, or something of the sort. Sounded like he couldn't handle it and didn't really know what he was doing, I don't know.
