Went here with a friend the other day, and it definitely is a classic no-frills eatery, which I'm all for. We shared the beef chow fun and roast duck wonton noodle soup. I was most excited about the duck because I'm a huge fan and heard it was good here, but the duck in the soup isn't the same as the plate they're famous for. It's full of bones and you get very little meat, which kind of made it hard to eat and took me out of it. The wontons and noodles were good, and the chow fun was classic and yummy. The staff were kind and accommodating. I'm just bummed about the duck! Maybe trying the signature is really the way to go, but it would have been so delicious in the soup had there been better quality meat for the dish. read more

I got the wonton noodle soup with beef stew. The beef stew was delicious and tender, melt in the mouth texture. The wontons were big and normal tasting shrimp pork wontons, and the noodles were also normal. The soup was solid. This is a classic no frills Cantonese restaurant that has been in Chinatown for a long time. Though it is not as old or as famous as some of the other ones, it has been here for at least 35 years. I used to come here as a child a lot and have had many dishes here over the years. I have had all the classics here such as beef chow fun, char siu or roast duck over rice, rice congee, beef noodle soup, pan fried noodles, and much more. This is one of my go to places to get Cantonese style barbecue meats in New York City Chinatown. I believe it is cash only though. The best time to come is usually in the mornings before all the tourist are coming in for lunch. It's one of the few places that I can get decently crispy roast pork. They do go by pound, and are pretty accurate with the servings. There's a decent selection of barbecue meats, such as char, Sue, crispy, roast, pork, scallion, chicken, and soy chicken. I believe they also have duck as well, but it is not your crispy Peking duck. It's also a sit down restaurant, were you can get your typical Cantonese food such as wonton noodle soup, combination, barbecue plates, (two types, or three types, over rice), congee, etc. Service is always pretty good, and the staff has always been polite to me. It's a very basic Chinese restaurant, so don't expect the bells and whistles of a fancy Michelin star restaurant. However, some of these places are known to have some of the best tasting foods. We try to eat here at least once every time we're in the city. They have had the same owners since 1972 when my dad first ate here. The roasted duck, roasted suckling pig and the beef are all excellent. I can't tell you my favorite, because they are all five star depending on what kind of mood you are in. Compared to a competitive subset, this is one of the best BBQ/rice plate/Cantonese noodle options in Chinatown. 1. They have very solid rice noodles as well with very generous topping portions; the noodles themselves are denser and not as silky as those at Tonii's but still very flavorful and with great reheat value. 2. The stir fried flat rice noodles are well-seasoned and not overly greasy - we did not eat them for a good hour after receiving our order and they were still good then. 3. Rice plates: They have a very good selection including beef with fresh tomato, spare ribs with black bean sauce, and beef with bitter melon. The portions are very generous and the flavors spot-on. These are not your standard takeout combo dishes and are great reheated if you grab a few to go for lunches. 4. Sweet fried dough: The best $2 you will spend for a HUGE piece of sweet, fried crueller. The outside is perfectly crispy and lightly sweetened and the inside is perfectly soft. Pair it with the rice noodles or a soy milk. The location can't be beat - it's right by the J/R/N/Q and 6 stations on Canal. Worth a visit even if just to grab a crueller or dish to go. read more
