It's located on the second floor and there was no wait. Plenty of large tables with lazy susans and smaller tables for 2-4. It didn't seem like any other parties had issues seating either. A few of us were late and they still allowed us to get seated and get started on ordering food and tea. I love that this place still has the cart style dim sum. There were plenty of options and if I was looking for something, the employees were super helpful in flagging the items down for us. We also consumed a lot of team as a party of 8 and the employees were also very attentive in making sure our pots were always filled. We had to flag them down once but they were super quick to come. Everything was delicious and we left content and full. It came to about $27 including tax/tip total for a group of 8. I love coming with large groups because we ordered so much variety and was able to try everything. I'm excited to come back and add this as a regular place to visit. read more

Friday night and hungry for some seafood in Chinatown. Whereas the main drag on Mott will be full of tourists you have to venture over to East Broadway where locals go. Settled on this one and the food was all right: single lobster w ginger/scallion; a couple of huge oysters in shell with black bean garlic sauce; some pea pod stems. We ordered clams as well but they were out of it already. And unfortunately only beer they had was Heineken. Oh well. Place had a few parties celebrating pre lunar new year, otherwise fairly empty. BLUF: Popular, inexpensive, but slightly below-average dim-sum. We visited Seng Seafood Restaurant 金泰海鮮酒家 on a recent weekday morning for dim-sum. The restaurant was lively, loud (informally measured in the high 70's to low 80's in decibels), and crowded full with locals. We were lucky to be seated quickly, as subsequent visitors had to wait. We only ordered four dishes; we stopped because the food leaned towards below average. The beef short ribs were thick and chewy -- under-marinated and overcooked. The siu mai was mushy and had chunks of fat. The beef rice noodle roll was OK but the rice noodle was somewhat coarser than the competition. The prices here are decent (hence the crowd); $4.50 for Small, Medium, and Large dim-sum plates. This place doesn't offer chili oil during dim-sum service, but provides a more budget chili sauce upon request. Service was prompt and efficient, even considering the crowd. The men's restroom was adequately maintained, but my companion said that the women's restroom was in an unacceptable condition. read more

This second floor dim sum house harkens back to the days of sharing large round tables with strangers (if you are a smaller group), ink stamped ledger of your plates, ladies pushing hot metal carts and very efficient, though less than cordial service. Many dim sum restaurants have transitioned from the hot metal carts and to order dim sum but it's always nice to see the tradition live on. It's all part of the old school experience! The food was great actually which is a big plus. All my favorites like spring rolls, crystal shrimp dumplings, pork shumai, were available and I couldn't say there was anything I wouldn't get again. Came on a 10am on Sunday weekend after new years, the restaurant was perhaps 60% full and by the time we left was completely full. We were sat at a large round table with 2 older aged women who were having a great time sipping on tea and enjoying dim sum slowly. Wonderful to come to dim sum on a weekend without a wait and the food/pricing was on par with other dim sum restaurants as well. Service was prompt and they had carts rolling around with people frequently asking us if we wanted anything else. Had to do our annual dim sum feast before the Super Saturday parade. Seng Seafood restaurant is still our best dim sum spot in Chinatown, Manhattan. We got there 15 mins before they were officially opened, but they were super friendly and told us to wait upstairs instead and offered us hot tea, a table while we waited for our party to arrive. The best thing about dim sum is that it has so much to offer for people who are allergic to gluten, seafood, etc. The fact is there's ALWAYS something for everyone, which is the best way to enjoy it. I had heard from a Chinese friend of mine that this was their favorite dim sum place and that the rest of the Cantonese food here was also very good so a group and I went here. As per most of my other reviews, I went to this restaurant several months ago. The food was excellent being higher quality than most of the other Canto spots around here at reasonable prices and I would go back here both to try their dim sum and also to just go back and have more of their Cantonese options. The staff was the expected for Canto spots and the room was originally a bit loud as there was a wedding in their other hall (which is always a good sign for these spots) but eventually the other side quieted down and it wasn't super loud in there even though it was pretty crowded. First to arrive was probably the best dish of the night which was an excellent version of Prawns With Mayonnaise Sauce. The shrimp were large and hot with a good crisp but not too much batter and was as per usual, a bit sweet from the mayo. There was also broccoli as well as candied walnuts as per always. This is one of the best versions of this dish I've had and I would recommend it heavily. The Fried Flounder was probably the next best. Outside of the main fish, there were several pieces on top which was a nice touch as well as some type of veggie. The fish had a nice light fry which allowed us to taste the delicate fish flavor better. I would also recommend it to share. The Peking Pork Chop was also great with the sauce not being overly sweetened and not being too boney though I would say that it's a bit better at some other spots like Wu's Wonton King where the pork there by comparison has a better crisp and is a bit more tender. The Lamb Chops With Scallions were also pretty solid. The lamb was tender and tasty and lightly seasoned. The dish otherwise came with some bell peppers and onions with the onions being nicely cooked down it's a little bit of a bite. Also pretty good was the Salted Fish And Pork With Eggplant Casserole. The eggplant in there was particularly tasty though there could have been more of the salted fish. Also with said ingredient but a bit more was the Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice. The rice had good flavor and good chunks of protein and didn't feel like a throwaway compared to some other Canto spots and was a lot better than the version at Uncle Lou among other popular spots in the area. The other carb dish was the Singapore Mei Fun which they liked. I think I remember there being some pieces of squid in there if I recall correctly so I couldn't try it but others liked the curry powder flavor. The last remaining dish was the Bacon Sauteed With Cauliflower which was fine. I prefer cauliflower with other preserved meat over this dish but you tend to find that more in non-Canto spots. It was fine with a bit of smokiness from the bacon but perhaps a bit too much grease. The food here was tasty and I can see why they've been around since the early 2000s if not the late 90s. Reasonably priced tasty good Cantonese food and a whole lot easier to get into than the next comparable spots; Wu's Wonton or Uncle Lou. Would go back again. read more

Alot of things have changed at this restaurant. Food quality have gone down significantly. We had a problem with spoiled tasting meat and even though we brought it to the attention of management they rudely insisted there are no issues and tried to blame us. Also the fried dough wrapped with pink noodle dish had a rancid oil taste. I will be going to House of Joy for my Dimsum fix going forward where the quality and price are both superior. read more

They specialize in authentic Chinese/Cantonese food, where you can get some good Ginger scallion lobster, or if you're looking for something different, they do Thai-style fried lobster with sticky rice which is really delicious. first dim sum meal in a very long time at seng seafood today. we'd been once or twice before and had really liked it (probably a 4 or 5 star review if i rated my other visits in prior years). their prices used to be the same for all dish sizes, and presumably is still the same. our bill came out to $55 before tip for 10 items (which fed 3 adults and 1 child and are definitely not all pictured here ... was too hungry). the bill did include two shrimp cheung fun (rice rolls) which are usually pretty pricey at your typical dim sum establishment. all dishes were delicious, but we were quite disappointed by how limited the selections were today (there seemed to be way more in our previous visits as well as what is listed on their website). not sure if it might have been because we were visiting a little later in the day by dim sum standards (~1:00 pm). there was also virtually no service provided (e.g., water was never refilled) but the cart ladies were really nice in trying to help find the dishes that we wanted. we had made a reservation over the phone, but it didn't seem like they understood once we arrived. thankfully, we didn't need to wait long as we were put at an eight-person table with another party of four. considering the clientele visiting, you know that the dim sum is authentic. certainly can't go wrong here with your basic dim sum selections, though may opt to go earlier next time to see if there are more options or visit another place for more variety. read more

Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you, this place was absolutely packed on my visit, with a hungry line snaking out the door. My party of four had to wait a solid half an hour plus before they finally sat us. Inside is classic dim sum mayhem, and we got seated communal style with strangers at a big round table. The layout of the restaurant, with the stairs in the middle, is not well suited for the pushcarts, but the ladies pushing them were not deterred and cheerfully plopped down plates of turnip cakes whenever we made eye contact. We locked in on all the classics-- shrimp noodle rolls, lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice, egg tarts, congee, you name it. If it came by and we wanted it, it landed on our table. The food was great-- fresh, flavorful, and never tasted like it was sitting on the cart for too long. Cart service, loud & noisy, mainly older locals - so you know that the food is good and at a good price. The service is brusque and limited English is spoken, but you can point and ask what it is. We had an amazing dinner at Seng Seafood. The whole abalone with chicken casserole was superb. The abalone was so tender and flavorful that I wished we had ordered more of them. We also had the E-fu noodles with crabmeat that was a huge portion and delicious; nevertheless we devoured the whole thing down to the last noodle. Another standout dish was the sautéed lotus roots that were expertly cooked with a unique and tasty sauce. The freshly steamed dim sum appetizers were also yummy and were devoured within 1 minute of arrival to our table. We left the restaurant with full stomachs and completely empty plates. This is a very authentic dim sum experience, where you're sat in a big dining room with people pushing carts full of different dim sum around. You order as they come by, and they'll write it down on your order sheet. It's not really clear how much everything is, it ended up being pretty affordable and we were stuffed at the end. Some of my favorites were the rice noodles with the fried dough stick and the pig buns, which were filled with a custard paste inside. If you're not familiar with mandarin/canto, or go with friends that are, you might have a little trouble. It was pretty busy when we arrived, and we had to actively flag down the person running the queue. When he realized we mainly spoke English, he tried to get us to go to their basement location. We tried, but it was very quiet and looked more like a space that you'll rent out for big groups instead of just some casual dining, so we went back upstairs. No wait when we walked in on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. The place seemed very run down, which is expected of old Chinatown establishments. Food was mediocre at best. The egg yolk bun didn't even have the warm runny egg inside. By the time it got to our table it was cooled and the egg was dried inside. The other dishes were also just room temperature, not hot. The rice rolls were kinda tough, not soft. Service is terrible. We got pushed to a back corner and no one came to us. When we asked for the duck feet, the guy was shouting that we should wait for the cart to come. Usually when we sit at far to reach places at other dim sum places, the server would help us get dishes. We ended up only ordering 5 dishes total for 4 ppl. We weren't full but couldn't stand being there anymore. Mediocre food and bad service. When we went to pay, we brought our bill to the front and paid with credit card and the guy at the register forced us to tip. He made a big scene and kept pointing to the tip line on the receipt.
