    Precious ingredients on rice
    Giselle G.

I came here because I have heard many recommendations for it. Also my favorite place on Canal street has closed and I have been trying to find a replacement. This place is not it, the food was greasy and it was not what I expected. Now in their defense it was to go and that does affect the texture of the food. I ordered the lo mein and the meats on rice. So I understand the noodles not being up to par because everyone's lo mein is different but the roasted meats were a disappointment. The roasted meats were not flavorful and were overcooked for my taste. The place was full so maybe this is just me. Not sure but you should try it the lady who took my order was very nice. The place looked clean and it was efficiently ran. I am not sure if I would be back. I miss my place dearly, good food is difficult to find.

Two words, "No frills." This is a great traditional old school Cantonese restaurant. The food is decent and affordable. The star of the show is the beef brisket and tendon noodle soup, the broth is rich and the meat is soft and tender. The portion sizes are generous. However, I was disappointed by the wontons. I found them to be small, tough and lacking any flavor compared to the beef. This is a casual spot, and like I mentioned in the beginning, a "No frills" spot with quick service. It's a perfect place when you're craving a hearty bowl of noodles without the fancy extras. Just stick to the beef and skip the wontons. I also had the beef chow fun which was really delicious, and the "wok hei" was evident in the taste and texture. Fun Note: The interior walls of the restaurant is plastered with all types and denominations of paper currency from all parts of the world.

Perhaps one of the most endearing dishes in Chinese cuisine is wonton soup. It's well known and loved by many, and there have been many variations depending on where in Asia one goes.  Located on Mulberry Street in NYC's Chinatown, HK Wonton Garden is one of those places to eat authentic Cantonese food where I came for lunch today.  With a very plain exterior front, I was greeted by the staff upon entering at an old-school vibe with different monetary currencies taped to the walls. As a repeat patron, I easily got a table by the kitchen. Some of the staff still wore the Hawaiian shirts and served up some tasty offerings.  The menu is extensive for wonton and noodles, both with soup or dry, among other dishes. I decided on the wonton with noodle soup and sui mai. These were average pieces of pork and shrimp encased in this lovely wrap.  For many years, this has been my favorite comfort food: a well-made bowl of hearty, authentic Hong Kong-style wonton noodles with the right taste and textural profile and using the correct condiments to create the desirable final end results. In Cantonese, 'wonton' roughly translates to 'clouds' as the wontons look like clouds floating in the soup and use thin wrap. Most dumplings are usually served with a thicker wrap. The meal began with a hot cup of tea. The food came out quick and hot. The flavor was unique and consistent, and the prices were fair as compared to other places. The portions were just right, and the staff efficient. I continue to recommend this place.

A different type of wonton noodle soup than usual for me. Hk wontons are bigger with thicker skin but i prefer the more cantonese style with thin skin. The skin here felt undercooked or too thick for my preference. The noodles were also thicker rice noodles instead of egg noodles and I also prefer egg noodles. They have the classic wonton noodle soup as an option too and that looked yummy. Glad I tried HK style but wouldn't get again.

The best duck noodle with dumpling soup ever--and such a bang for the buck at just $10-$11. The shrimp fried rice is also incredibly good. Hands down the best find in Chinatown.

The shrimp fried rice here is amazing!!!!! We ordered the shrimp fried rice, beef and broccoli, and Beijing noodles with chicken, everything was delicious!!!! Wait time for food is usually 10-15 mins and made fresh once ordered. Also not expensive. The seating can be very limited because the restaurant isn't too big but they do offer a lot of food options on their menu and seems like Duck is their specialty. I'm from California and eat a lot of Chinese food out here but the fried rice from this location is one of those dishes you just can't forget about because how delicious it is! If you're looking for good Chinese food, try this place.

A hole in the wall place with a huge menu in chinatown! I liked the peking duck buns -- the duck was juicy. The string beans were pretty solid as well. The food came out pretty quickly too

Wonton and beef tendon noodle soup

4.5 stars Wonton and beef tendon noodle soup hit the mark on all fronts. Chewy noodles, full tasty wonton, soft beef tendon, and a good soup. Only thing is I wish there were a more noodles; unbalanced and ran out too fast. I tried to get an extra order of just noodles (no soup) and they tried to charge me like 5 or 7 bucks (1/2 to 3/4 the price of the whole dish!), but after expressing some surprise I was able to get it added as "extra noodles" for like 3 bucks. So pro tip, just order extra noodles from the start if that's your thing. (Not sure why all the fuss anyways)

I enjoyed my lunch at HK! There are many restaurants in China town so I did some research in advance and read reviews and decided to go here. And I'm glad I did because they were as good as I expected. The place isn't big, and definitely not somewhere you stay for a while. I was under the impression that people just eat and leave. It was Sunday afternoon but luckily I was seated right away. I ordered fish ball and wonton noodle. I got my order in about 5 minutes. I can confidently say those were the best wontons I ever had! So juicy and flavorful. The broth was very light, but that added a good balance with the wonton. When I got my check, the price shown there was different than what the menu book says. I asked, and my server told me the check includes tax and tips. I thought that was interesting how they do it, but I still found it reasonable so I paid that exact amount and left. Highly recommended

Stopped by here for lunch while exploring Chinatown and our experience was definitely mixed! Service was fast and friendly. Prices are incredible - $55 for lunch for three in NYC. Food was hit or miss! Was looking forward to some Dim Sum but they were too large and the wraps were too thick. Same to be said for the spring roles - arrived piping hot but wrap was thick and doughy in middle! Ma Po tofu was however excellent. My daughter liked her sweet and sour chicken and my husband's noodles were just okay ! Good enough and a bargain price! Todu was the standout !!

Wonton soup that doesn't skimp on meat portions for around 10 bucks in this day and age?? What's to complain about!? When it's cold in NYC and you need a deep broth to revive you, HK wonton garden will not disappoint. Broth was rich, wontons were meaty, beef and tendons were tender, it hit the spot for both me and the hubby NOTE: The place is small but turnover is quick

This second go around was a celebration dinner with my brother so we ordered quite a bit to share. For starters we had their crab rangoon, wontons in chili oil, and salt pepper wings. The rangoons were perfectly crisp but the filling just didn't impress me all too much. I love a good smack of green onion & crab, this one lacked both. Definitely not my favorite rangoons and only 3??? Hmm. The wontons were sublime though. They were nice and plump with a nice punch from the chili oil they bathe in. The chicken wings were pretty standard, I kinda wish there was more pepper on it. It was nice and salty but severely lacked pepper for being a pepper oriented dish. As for the General Tsos? YUM. This was great. The ratio of batter to chicken wasn't bad and it had such a great crisp. The actual General Tso sauce was perfect as well, I could not stop picking at this. The Shrimp Lo Mein was also fantastic, very smoky which I'm a sucker for. The shrimps were perfectly cooked as well and the noodles..... bouncy umami goodness. Delicious food, decent prices, great service I should add. In Chinatown, you learn that hospitality is entirely optional. Here though, they are welcoming and communicate very well with you. Our waiter and the hosts were especially lovely on this night. For next time, I'd pass on the crab rangoons and go for their crispy garlic chicken over the salt pepper wings. There will definitely be a next time though!
