It's also a totally different experience if you add ALL off the extra seasonings which are offered- Parmesan, red pepper flake and what I think is a rosemary blend. I love the focaccia style crust which is light and fluffy and eats less heavy than other styles. The pepperoni slice is very light on the cheese. It took years for me to succumb to the lure of Golden Boy Pizza. Now though, no North Beach stop feels complete unless accompanied by a slice. At a recent Stern Grove show I watched rapt as someone nearby opened a pizza box from Golden Boy then suddenly remembered that they now have a spot on this side of town as well. Between two of us we shared 2 slices of sausage pizza and 1 slice of pepperoni. With tip, the bill ran less than $15 causing me to remark that this meal "was half the cost of the two salad bar salads" we'd recently made at a supermarket in Marin. The value is undeniable. What's also undeniable is that this is delicious. I'm no pizza connoisseur but Golden Boy's offering, a style they call "Sanfrancilian", is very satisfying. I didn't need a must-stop pizza place on this side of town, and I miss the opportunity to enjoy their pizza from a seat at Gino & Carlo's (though there's also a bar beside this location) but now that I've been I can't help but grow a bit excited by the opportunity to enjoy their offering without having to hunt for parking. Golden Boy is a great addition to the Parkside neighborhood. If I lived nearby I'd be in big trouble. read more

I tried the original North Beach Golden Boy Pizza a while back but didn't get to taste the pizza fresh on the spot because my parking meter expired, so the squares had to endure a car ride home. Golden Boy Pizza opened a location in my neighborhood sometime after the initial experience, and I always planned to go check it out, but it's located west of me, and I don't often venture out that far. However, I was feeling pretty hungry after 4 consecutive days of functional strength training workouts following a brief hiatus from working out after I got my first tattoo, so I decided to give it a go. I took the L line to Taraval and 26th Ave after my workout and when I arrived, there were a few people waiting to pick up their orders and a very short waiting line to place new orders. I was served within a few minutes and unironically ordered the same exact two flavors - pesto veggie and combo - as I did at the North Beach location, which I realized only after comparing the photos in my library. I'm truly a creature of habit and consistency. Once again, I got the paper receipt to sign and add tip. I find it really annoying that the tech is not up-to-date, but it is what it is. At least the prices are unbeatable. After paying, it was only a short wait until my order was called. I scurried home to eat while still hot. Upon removing the squares from the paper bag, I noticed that despite my efforts to rush back, the wrapping paper stuck to the cheese. I tried my best to extricate the paper, but some of the toppings got removed or displaced in the process. Once again, the squares were soggy but at least still warm. I decided picking up the squares with my hands wasn't going to fly because of how gooey they were so went to grab a fork. By this point, I realized that focaccia pizza just isn't my thing. While I love pizza and like focaccia, the combination just doesn't hit like traditional pizza, regardless the style. read more

Although a new tray of pepperoni pizza had just been brought out, I opted to try slices of the combo and pesto veggie pizzas. I waited until my name was called and received a bag containing my slices that had been heated up. I found an empty bench at nearby McCoppin Square and opened my bag to find each slice wrapped separately in paper, which made it convenient for me to eat without making a big mess. It was a Friday night, we'd just made a cookie run (Christine's, I'm obsessed) clear across the city, and had no dinner plan. So... it was finally time to try this Golden Boy Pizza near our house. I placed a pickup order through DoorDash (gift card perks), and it was ready quickly and smoothly. No complaints there. I ordered a "small" which is eight slices, and my partner was immediately annoyed at my choice. Turns out, two slices were more than enough for a full meal for me. Their Sicilian-style squares are thick and filling. The last time I had Golden Boy was about four years ago at the North Beach location, and I remember loving it more then. Note the new prices for 2026. My pizza was ready in about 20 minutes, well sort of, on a Monday at 7:45pm. My order was phoned in, a large 1/2 pesto veggie 1/2 combo $30.50. When I got there in 10 minutes, it wasn't ready yet, so I paid. Things got busy for the slice take-out counter and I guess they forgot about me. I had never eaten pizza from Golden Boys, until now. What did I have? The photos don't really justify just how insanely good the slices are. - Garlic Clam: clams and garlic are highlights, but, I would have liked more clams and maybe more sauce? A delicious bite nonetheless. - Pepperoni: this simply cannot be messed up; red sauce and crisp pepperoni slices. This is, yes, though simple, probably one of the best pepperoni slices I have had in a long time. - Veggie: white sauce, tomato, cucumber, olives, and mozzarella; this was my favorite slice in the boxed trio. It was fresh, light, savory, and so well composed. I was surprised! The star: if I were to not eat pizza, then I would eat just the focaccia style pizza crust. The crust remained light, airy, crisp, and not soggy at all. I can't really elaborate on how the service and ambiance was as this was a delivery made order. While it may have been far from awful, I think it'd be fair to say that my experience at Golden Boy's original spot in North Beach was a little underwhelming. Part of it was probably my fault for having such high hopes/expectations ahead of time, but, even still, I didn't think the pizza lived up to all of the hype. After all, if nothing else, it's great to see more and more eateries open up on this side of the city! Taking over Marco Polo's old home on Taraval, the look of this place has been transformed into Golden Boy's signature look. Yet, from the red tile facade that's covered with countless stickers and decals to their order/pick-up windows (there's no seating here either), so much of this place also looks all too familiar. Similarly, their menu offerings, with its half a dozen varieties of pies, is exactly the same and their display full of pizzas looked just as promising. -- COMBO with Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion, Mushroom, Zucchini, and Tomato...$4.50 The one I had down in North Beach looked nicer, in part because the cheese on this one got stuck to the wrap, but I actually thought this one was better. The mix of toppings worked just as well and the tomatoes and zucchini weren't as watery. -- CLAM & GARLIC with Baby Clams, Chopped Garlic, and Parsley...$4.50 While I wish this one also had more clams on it (that will always be the case), this Clam & Garlic was also tastier. Not only was the taste of the clams stronger, but the flavors were a bit more balanced (not as heavy on the parsley). Across both slices, the other thing that I liked more about the pizza here was the dough/crust. For whatever reason, it was softer, a bit more moist, and seemed to hold together better (it didn't seem to break apart as much when I bit into it). Plus, it felt slightly chewier, too, which I liked. Even though though the pizza itself is the most important thing to consider, it certainly doesn't hurt that nearly everything else about this location is far superior. Granted, they aren't open quite as late on Fridays and Saturday nights, but It's way more convenient, parking is incredibly easier, the line is a whole lot shorter (day or night), and it never feels as congested with folks, whether they be waiting for their orders, standing around eating, or just passing by. Add all of that together, along with how two slices for $9 felt like a steal, and it's no wonder why this Golden Boy Pizza ended up being so much closer to what I was hoping and expecting them to be! read more

I ordered a personal size which was for very generous slices to the pizza, and I had it loaded with some really yummy toppings... Sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and zucchini! Delicious and yummy is the best way to describe this Pizza experience! The crust was absolutely yummy, I just wish it had been a little crisper around the edges. The ingredients were generous and perfectly seasoned.
