If you wish garlic was a protein and like calms, then order the clam and garlic. There was no fishy taste. This is a to go spot only. Came by today for a quick slice, which is SUPER quick when you ask them *not* to heat it. They have combo, clam, cheese and pepperoni. I got the pepperoni. The flavor is more subtle without the extra bake, but it's guaranteed not to be burnt. It's also a totally different experience if you add ALL off the extra seasonings which are offered- Parmesan, red pepper flake and what I think is a rosemary blend. Without those, and without heat it may eat as less flavorful. They also offer some basic drink options. I got a San Pellegrino. I love the focaccia style crust which is light and fluffy and eats less heavy than other styles. The pepperoni slice is very light on the cheese. The walk up counter is cute with lots of locals leaving stickers. I wish there was a place to sit inside, as the street is pretty populated, but there is a park nearby with seating. read more

I tried the original North Beach Golden Boy Pizza a while back but didn't get to taste the pizza fresh on the spot because my parking meter expired, so the squares had to endure a car ride home. Golden Boy Pizza opened a location in my neighborhood sometime after the initial experience, and I always planned to go check it out, but it's located west of me, and I don't often venture out that far. However, I was feeling pretty hungry after 4 consecutive days of functional strength training workouts following a brief hiatus from working out after I got my first tattoo, so I decided to give it a go. I took the L line to Taraval and 26th Ave after my workout and when I arrived, there were a few people waiting to pick up their orders and a very short waiting line to place new orders. I was served within a few minutes and unironically ordered the same exact two flavors - pesto veggie and combo - as I did at the North Beach location, which I realized only after comparing the photos in my library. I'm truly a creature of habit and consistency. Once again, I got the paper receipt to sign and add tip. I find it really annoying that the tech is not up-to-date, but it is what it is. At least the prices are unbeatable. After paying, it was only a short wait until my order was called. I scurried home to eat while still hot. Upon removing the squares from the paper bag, I noticed that despite my efforts to rush back, the wrapping paper stuck to the cheese. I tried my best to extricate the paper, but some of the toppings got removed or displaced in the process. Once again, the squares were soggy but at least still warm. I decided picking up the squares with my hands wasn't going to fly because of how gooey they were so went to grab a fork. By this point, I realized that focaccia pizza just isn't my thing. I had never eaten pizza from Golden Boys, until now. What did I have? The photos don't really justify just how insanely good the slices are. - Garlic Clam: clams and garlic are highlights, but, I would have liked more clams and maybe more sauce? A delicious bite nonetheless. - Pepperoni: this simply cannot be messed up; red sauce and crisp pepperoni slices. This is, yes, though simple, probably one of the best pepperoni slices I have had in a long time. - Veggie: white sauce, tomato, cucumber, olives, and mozzarella; this was my favorite slice in the boxed trio. It was fresh, light, savory, and so well composed. I was surprised! The star: if I were to not eat pizza, then I would eat just the focaccia style pizza crust. After a recent day in the City checking out a new exhibition at DeYoung, my boyfriend and I were excited to try out Golden Boy after hearing several people talk about how good it is. We ordered a slice of each of the following: - Sausage: 3/5 decent and savory - Pep: 5/5 my favorite of all the ones we ordered -- it was simple yet flavorful without overwhelming my palette. - Combo: 3.5/5 decent and pretty tasty; it was a balance of multiple flavors. - Garlic clam: 3.5/5 I really appreciated the garlic taste but I think I'll stick to clams on pastas rather than pizzas. While it may have been far from awful, I think it'd be fair to say that my experience at Golden Boy's original spot in North Beach was a little underwhelming. Part of it was probably my fault for having such high hopes/expectations ahead of time, but, even still, I didn't think the pizza lived up to all of the hype. However, when I heard the news that they were going to be expanding into this side of the city, I was no less excited! After all, if nothing else, it's great to see more and more eateries open up on this side of the city! Taking over Marco Polo's old home on Taraval, the look of this place has been transformed into Golden Boy's signature look. Yet, from the red tile facade that's covered with countless stickers and decals to their order/pick-up windows (there's no seating here either), so much of this place also looks all too familiar. Similarly, their menu offerings, with its half a dozen varieties of pies, is exactly the same and their display full of pizzas looked just as promising. -- COMBO with Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion, Mushroom, Zucchini, and Tomato...$4.50 The one I had down in North Beach looked nicer, in part because the cheese on this one got stuck to the wrap, but I actually thought this one was better. The mix of toppings worked just as well and the tomatoes and zucchini weren't as watery. -- CLAM & GARLIC with Baby Clams, Chopped Garlic, and Parsley...$4.50 While I wish this one also had more clams on it (that will always be the case), this Clam & Garlic was also tastier. Not only was the taste of the clams stronger, but the flavors were a bit more balanced (not as heavy on the parsley). Across both slices, the other thing that I liked more about the pizza here was the dough/crust. For whatever reason, it was softer, a bit more moist, and seemed to hold together better (it didn't seem to break apart as much when I bit into it). Plus, it felt slightly chewier, too, which I liked. Even though though the pizza itself is the most important thing to consider, it certainly doesn't hurt that nearly everything else about this location is far superior. Granted, they aren't open quite as late on Fridays and Saturday nights, but It's way more convenient, parking is incredibly easier, the line is a whole lot shorter (day or night), and it never feels as congested with folks, whether they be waiting for their orders, standing around eating, or just passing by. Add all of that together, along with how two slices for $9 felt like a steal, and it's no wonder why this Golden Boy Pizza ended up being so much closer to what I was hoping and expecting them to be! read more

I'm a big fan of Golden Boy Pizza! I grew up eating it in North Beach and now there are a few more locations, so you don't have to trek to North Beach, where parking can be a pain. The Taraval location is a residential area, so there is more parking available than the ever busy, touristy North Beach location. You can call to place your order then pick it up. Even better, if you have someone with you to pick up the pizza while you wait in a meter spot because this is only a take out window. There may be some people in line to order and some people waiting to pick up their order. If you place your order at the window, they will give you a receipt with the time to pick up your pizza. For us, there was a 15 minute wait. If you just order a few slices, you should be able to get your order quickly. ***OUR PICK*** LARGE PAN PIZZA ~ (4 slices each of combo and pesto clam & garlic) when you can't eat this pizza in-house, you have to go home and heat it up on the pan so the crust can crisp up again! I hate soggy crust! We did just that and it was OH SOOO GOOD! If you don't, it'll be soggy from being in the steamy box. If it wasn't for that extra step, it would have been a 5/5! The crust had a light crispy texture after being on the pan for a few minutes. Usually the clam and garlic is really salty, but it wasn't from this location. Combo was also good. Honestly really good value for the amount of piece. $33 (tax included) for 8 huge slices is really worth it. In terms of flavor, I don't see why there's a line at the North Beach location all the time... The clam and garlic is good but honestly can't taste the clam because the garlic flavor is so overpowering. It's still good but I mainly take garlic and just see the clams. The pizza has generous toppings and is relatively affordable but I don't think most of the pizzas standout to me, except the clam and garlic. The clam and garlic is very tasty and has generous portions of clam. Unlike most other pizzas, their pizza is shaped like a rectangle instead of circle. Today, we ordered the small size pizza which is good enough for 2- 3 people. The crust is relatively thick with a crispy edge. I was a little disappointed with their service though. I ordered through Uber and was there for the pickup. The counter employee looked at my order and said it would be a couple of minutes so I waited by the curbside, and waited, and waited. After about 10 minutes, I finally got impatient and walked up to the counter and asked them about my pizza which they promptly got OUT OF THE WARM OVEN where finished pizzas were sitting. So are you saying my pizza was ready for some time and they didn't have the customer service to just tell me it was ready?! True focaccia style pizza. This is a counter service place with seating on the street. We placed an order with plenty of time to arrive and it be ready for pick up. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza. We took it to the beach and enjoyed that bad boy. It was so light and crispy. Perfect amount of cheese, pepperoni and tomato sauce. My husband and I used to order here but square pizza isn't my go-to. My coworkers will sometimes order from the Golden Boy in the city and it tasted great! Not sure if I'm just starving at work, but I had high hopes when we ordered from this location recently. We got the meat pizza and pesto veggie. The toppings were good but the crust wasn't crispy like the city one. It was almost soft. If I can order it crispy crunchy crust, that would push this to 5 stars! read more

Easy weekday afternoon parking, Pizza / Pie cooked to order, and took about 15 minutes. Got a Small (4 slice) meat combo. Counter person was personable and came out and handed me my boxed pizza. The slices were really good, freshly baked, not heavy or greasy, and the crust had a nice outer crunch with a fluffy light bread middle. I wouldn't say I was gobsmacked, dumbfounded, or fit to be tied when I saw Golden Boy landed in Parkside. I was more pleasantly surprised since I completely associate their familiar pizza slices with their raggedy original space covered in stickers on Green Street in North Beach. Many an evening of alcohol-fueled debauchery ended there because where else do you satisfy your munchies? Parkside, however, has a completely different vibe... suburban, family-oriented, a lot of kids on speeding bikes and scooters, a lot of seniors avoiding speeding bikes and scooters. In a smart real estate move, Golden Boy took over the space that housed Marco Polo Ice Cream for years until they moved west to Noriega. Whether by the pan or by the slice, they're offering the same half-dozen pizzas. They're all on display through the front window, and for non-connoisseurs like me, that's all good. I decided to get the $6.50 slice of the Pesto Veggie (Photo 7) and take it over to a bench in McCoppin Square Park to devour. I got lucky and had a corner piece with enough crust and veggies to offset the greasy-good pesto flavor. Good to know Golden Boy is here when I get a pizza craving in the Outer Sunset.
