Well, as soon as I hit the door, I can tell they changed a few things....decor-wise. The area near the entryway wasn't bad...if anything, a bit better? However, the buffet area was way worse. I'd definitely say downscaled. There was absolutely no vibe to the place. Despite the lofty size, it was dead silence. No overhead music...and not many diners either (on a New Year's Eve). In fact, I don't ever recall this place being so quiet. The buffet foods were also downscaled. The foods all just looked so bad...as in TV dinner quality? Some of it didn't even look fresh? In fact, I'm worried about the sushi that I had. They were some of the worst sushi I've ever had...as in EVER HAD!!! Also, they didn't even have some of the items I used to enjoy...liked steamed buns (or maybe I just didn't catch it??). Good thing that they kept the pricing reasonable...about $19 per person? Although I don't recall being blown away by the quality in the past (especially in the past decade), the foods were MUCH better in quality the last time we were here (2020?). It's truly sad because when this place first opened way back when, it was really good. However, with the change of management over the years from Jade to Ginza, things kept dipping downward. The restaurant offers a salad bar, fruit bar, sides (ranging from vegetables to finger foods for the little ones, and main courses (beef stew, steak, meatloaf, shrimp, etc.), and a dessert bar (cakes, ice cream, and two sugar free desserts). In my opinion the food was hot and fresh, but I wish they would have refilled the food bar more frequently. Although the restaurant was not busy, it seemed like the food bar never got refilled during our visits, especially the ice cream bar. The ice cream area topping was empty or there was hardly any topping left in the containers. The staff were kind and friendly, but the restaurant was extremely under staffed, resulting in plates piling up on unattended tables. In addition, our waitress did not introduce themself right away. It took about 10 to 15 minutes after we sat down, but they were kind and attentive once they came to the table. The restaurant was clean, but the bathroom cleanness needed some attention, the soap dispensers were not working properly and there was a decent amount of toilet paper scattered on the floor. Although the restaurant was understaffed and the food bar was hardly refilled, I had a wonderful time with my family. The two female bar tenders were in constant motion, taking drink orders as well as menu orders. Wish I could remember their names. The menu is a work of art. Appetizers from $8 to $12 and it ran the gambit with Cactus Blossoms, Boneless Buffalo Wings, Rattlesnake Bites (!), Grilled Shrimp, and Cheese Fries for a few items. We were very impressed with their meat variety: Dallas Filet 6oz and other sizes, Hand-Cut Steaks variety, Ft. Worth Ribeye 12oz, New York Strip 12oz, Hand-Cut Sirloin 6oz, Prime Rib 12oz, Killer Ribs - Full Rack or half-rack, Grilled BBQ Chicken, Chicken Critters (!), Grilled Salmon, Pulled Pork Dinner, Country Dinners, Roadhouse Signature Dish Country Dinners, Sirloin & Ribs Combo, Texas Size Combos (lots of pairings), Ribeye & Grilled Shrimp, and more!! Of course, desserts and all manner of sides. It is a chore to work through it all. I had the Ribeye steak with shrimp ($28.99), smothered with onions ($2.29) AND a loaded baked potato ($1.29). What blows my mind is that they will put parties of a smaller number on their weight as a call ahead and they don't have to wait as long. However, large parties don't get that same courtesy. I feel like this policy is completely backwards and it frustrates me to no end. I'm not sure if it's because the majority of the staff is young or they just don't care but I have a hard time interacting with them. There were several interactions during our visit they ruined the experience. For example since we had to wait the long period of time I told all of my family to know what they wanted to order. I asked the hostess for a menu for an older family member to look at and she told me they didn't have menus that I could either scan and look at the menu on a phone or stand and look at the menu tucked away close to the To-go area. I said I need the menu for a person over 75 yrs old and she looked at me like tough cookies and continued back to what she was doing. I'm so glad the Steele Creek area is getting a new location and hopefully we won't have to deal with some of this. Probably won't fix the large party issue (since this seems like a general company policy) but it makes me happy we won't have to travel so far to get to a location on a regular basis. Once seated, the service *still* moved at a slow pace, which added to the frustration of the wait time just to be seated.
