I was near here today and was looking for a late lunch after a work meeting, so I popped in to give it a try. To be honest, I don't really know how authentic these plates are to actual Hawaiian food, but it seems this is what its being marketed as... I wasn't in the mood for lau lau or Kalua pork, so I ordered the chicken & seafood combo. I wished that the seafood could come not as a fried option but thats not the case in most of the "Hawaiian" fast casual places I have been. The combo plate was decent and portion size good for two meals. I do like cabbage but wished it had a bit more seasoning. Macaroni salad was ok, not as good as Moku or other places I have tried. The chicken was tender and tasty. And the fried fish and shrimp were tasty, but hard to go wrong with fried foods. Dining room was clean with lots of booths and tables. Fountain soda refillable. Hawaiian music playing overhead. Wasn't a bad experience, but nothing special. If in the area again, I could stop by again, but not exactly hankering to come back. read more

When I got home, the bag had been leaking a puddle of juice in my car, the bottom box of food was crushed, I didn't know it till I picked the food up and it poured all over my car and lap. Brought the leaking food inside, to find dry over-cooked chicken katsu (pineapple chicken). Dry Mac salad, and sub par leaky BBQ Beef. I called to send pictures in, they told me all I can do is bring the food back in for a refund. Pretty hard to bring back food with busted containers and soaked bags with holes in them. So we ordered thru Uber Eats. I lived on Kaua'i for 15 years and am very familiar with Hawaiian food. There are several good Hawaiian restaurants around town but very few offer Loco Mocos , my husband's favorite. I order the Kalua Pork and Lau Lau plate. None offer Lau Lau and that is one of my favorites. The food arrived hot and pretty fast as the store is in Chandler and we live in East Mesa. Can't believe all the negative reviews as this was not our experience at all. Mahalo for the great food. We will be ordering again and again. Can't wait to try other dishes in their menu. read more

Literally Just walked out 2 mins ago the cashier is horrible attitude horrible .. I asked her for a smaller menu she gave that to me with an attitude she needs to be FIRED !! I went to a couple of Hawaiian food places while I was visiting the Phoenix area and this was not the best. It was good, and I had the mixed barbecue plate. The chicken was OK. the Bulgogi was average and the ribs were decent. The rice was very good but the macaroni salad was literally macaroni and mayonnaise. This would not be my first choice for Hawaiian food in the Phoenix area. Go to Aloha kitchen first. read more

We were in the mood for Hawaiian food and have never been here before. We drove 26 mins to get here. I read they have pineapple chicken and spicy chicken. I wanted both on the chicken combo. I was told by the not so friendly person behind the counter told I could not do that. So I got just the pineapple chicken and the wife got the bbq chicken and beef combo. Wifee said the beef was dry and the portion was very small for the amount of money it cost ($16.95) and there wasn't any bbq flavor. My pineapple chicken was juicy but the breading was over-fried I hurt my tooth. My meal was 12.65. The two drinks were 3.95 a piece. The total for the full meal was $39.78. Not worth the price. Now, the men's restroom was a nightmare. Paper towels all over the floor. The urinal was full and could not see into the mirror as it was covered with water drops. I used to always get golden Hawaiian to go and I feel like today it just wasn't the same. Overall it is good however the pasta salad was not too impressive this time around, something that usually was always good! I did really enjoy the teriyaki bowl which comes with rice, it has a perfect amount of sauce and is well made. We also paid $40 for all of this which is a bit pricey for the quality of the food but overall it was atill good. I ordered the 2 BBQ combo couple days ago, all the meat were burnt 70% at least. I called the restaurant if I can bring these back and get new one. The burnt meat is very bad for health. I ordered the BBQ Mix, which comes with BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, Kalibi Short Ribs, rice and macaroni salad. Admittedly, I'm really not familiar with Hawaiian food, so I don't really have anything to compare this to, but I'd have to say that, overall, it was just OK. So we ended up back in Chandler because the restaurant we originally was going to was closed due to an emergency. The menu was extensive and the prices were high for what you get. I will say the food was really good but as you can see in my picture the plate was filled with lettuce at the bottom. I usually opt for mini plates at Hawaiian restaurants because the portions are usually really big. In this case I got a regular size in hopes I had leftovers for dinner. We frequent this establishment for lunch every month or so. The food is pretty good, prices are decent & selection is great. It's never really crowded or busy, but the line does start to stack up around lunch hour. They've got a good selection of combo plates, rice bowls, individual meals & kids meals. Also a decent selection of appetizers. Almost a cross between Hawaiian & Asian cuisine, and executed well. The meats all have good flavor & have always been cooked well & tender. The Mac salad is kind of a hit or miss... sometimes there's a weird aftertaste. But you get PLENTY of rice with a combo. 2+ heaping scoops... so much to where it's kind of obvious they are using it as a filler & you're getting less actual entree meat. So I learned when one co-worker asked for ONE scoop of rice & remainder meat... they didn't catch on & charge extra. ;) And while the meats are good, (I usually order the chicken combo with chicken katsu & bbq chicken or the bbq combo with spare ribs, bbq pork & bbq chicken) the cuts often have quite a bit of fat & gristle. So I feel like the volume/portion of the entree choice could be better in comparison to what you get when ordering it individually. What could also improve: include the drink WITH the meal! The drinks are a total rip off, as you have to pay for them separately & remember to order one because it isn't included with any combo or meal option. And a SMALL fountain drink costs over $2! That's a little steep when you're already purchasing an entire meal. And we all agreed that's a big reason we don't frequent more often. Lunch shouldn't cost $15+ from a fast food joint having to order a beverage separately. It would also be nice if you could retrieve sauces, utensils & napkins without having to wait at the counter to ask. They're all disposable plastic to-go, anyway... most other fast food establishments have them sitting next to the beverage station. But it's also a clean dining area w/ tv screens for entertainment while you wait. So it's a nice place to stop in on lunch, for sure. And not that it effects the business much... but maybe hire someone to help with that messy impromptu wall of tablets for to-go orders right behind the register? We actually were commenting we felt bad for the employees having to deal with that electronic mess gone wrong. And it doesn't look so great on a professional level displaying that to all the patrons. Their spicy spam musubi's, chicken katsu, rice, and mac salad are on par with many places in HI. I wish they offered fried rice, loco moko's, and teriyaki beef though. Maybe I'm nitpicking. Beside some missing items on the menu. My biggest complaint is the girl at the register. Every time I've eaten there, she has a scowl, and seems irritated to have to deal with customers. Something about the masubi is so flavor forward with a reminiscent crave curb appeal. Masubi is a traditional simple Hawaiian food which is comprised of a nice sized slab of spam, with a soy sauce-sugar based sauce and rice wrapped in a nori seaweed sheet. This places gives you 2 finger sandwich half sizes of masubi for less than $4. They also offer chicken masubi and beef masubi which I have yet to try. The favorite among the meats is the bbq chicken, the bbq chicken combo (bbq chicken and Katsu chicken) ~$8 and the bbq special combo ( bbq beef, bbq chicken and Kalbi short ribs) ~$11. The meals come with a mound of rice, their version of cold mayo based Macaroni salad and the meats over a light layering cabbage bed. Environment was very basic with fast food tables and booths. Service was normal. To-go order included only one set of utensil and napkin (not napkins) for 3 order items. That was a bit odd. Here it is Thur at 2:30 and I walk in to this place with the full intention to order two hundred dollars in food instead I left with nothing What a waste of my time ! I was lying in bed today when Myke Y. sent me a delicious looking picture of some SPAM and eggs. Because of him, I had SPAM on the mind! I've been noticing this Golden Hawaiian BBQ place recently and had been wondering if it was owned by the same owners as the Southern & Dobson Hawaiian BBQ joint with the same name --- it is, based off what one of the staff said. Cool. I like that place too and now I don't have to walk by a sketchy smoke shop and a bar to get my Hawaiian eats! I got myself a Loco Moco and some Spam Musubi on the side. While the eggs were cooked a little more than I would have liked, everything was delicious just as it is in their other location. The Spam was cooked crispy and I was a happy happy girl. Golden Hawaiian BBQ specializes in- you guessed it- BBQ. They offer marinated and deep fried meats in chicken, beef, pork, fish and shrimp. Vegetables don't really exist here except for the small slivers of carrot in the macaroni salad and the small chunk of cooked cabbage that comes with the lunch plates. They offer single meat, combination meat plates, and mini meals. I went with the kalua pork and chicken combination. It came with a large scoop of white rice, macaroni salad, and a small wedge of cabbage. The chicken was thigh meat, marinated and grilled, and was tender with good flavor. I loved the earthy grilled taste of it. The kalua pork was decent. It was a large portion with smoky salty flavor. There was something about the texture that I didn't quite like 100% though, like it was slightly stringy/dry tasting despite being soaked in broth. The rice and macaroni salad were good sides to go with all the flavorful meat. My order was made in a few short minutes. I washed everything down with a soda from the help-yourself soda fountain. They offer Pepsi products here, and the condiment section is right next to it with tartar sauce, ketchup, hot sauce, etc. The combination meal was so hefty I could only finish about half of it. So we have visited twice now. The first time I really wanted a Loco Moco. It really was nothing special. Not bad, but not great. Seems to me the one I had in Hawaii several years ago had more robust flavor, even though it really is pretty basic. The second visit I had the BBQ platter and my wife had the laulau plate. These were both similar to the sorts of plates you can get in a "plate lunch" shop on the Islands. The laulau had really nice flavor (I had a bite), but they needed to trim the fat a bit. I expect some fat in a dish like this, but this was too much. The BBQ plate features chicken, pork short ribs (kalbi), and beef. Of the three the beef was more flavorful. Definitely. I really liked that. Both the short ribs and the chicken were less interesting. Not bad, but less interesting. Service was friendly, and they didn't mind giving you cups of teriyaki sauce. I think if the fat in the laulau had been removed I'd probably have to go to four stars. Except for the fat my wife really liked it, and I also thought it was pretty good. My BBQ beef had really good flavor also, and the chicken and pork were fine. I do think they deserve more than three stars. Removing that large chunk of fat would have done it for them. As it is I just can't bring myself to click on that fourth star. Another situation where Yelp should allow half-stars in the ratings. Two locations, but not a national chain. read more

me and my friend got a ton of takeout from this place for a baby shower! probably the best Luau Pig ive ever had bar none! perfectly seasoned and fork tender, with juices to compliment the dish. also had the fried shrimps, nicely shaped in a ring! chicken teriyaki was another top notch dish...not dry and sauce was had the right twang! also ordered chicken katsu..,a bit dry and breading too much. the sauce was so so...not the proper katsu sauce. another awesome dish was the beef short rib Kalbi! smoky goodness, tender and juicy, a delight in every bite! for my wife, she told me the macaroni salad was a winner too, very al dente...the sauce/ dressing was amazing! very happy and satisfied customer! happy eating! read more
