Lunch Special 龫扁四季豆 or Sautéed Green Bean $11.95
    Kay M.

There's plenty of street parking for $3 an hour plus 50cents service fee. Max 2 hours parking. Came on a weekday for their lunch special. Lunch special dishes were $11.95 each Monday through Friday from 11AM to 3PM. We were the only table. We ordered the 宫保雙丁 or Kung Pao Chicken & Shrimp, 龫扁四季豆 or Sautéed Green Bean, and 蒙古牛肉 or Mongolian Beef. The dishes came with Soup of the Day, Egg Roll, BBQ Pork, Fried Rice & Tea. The Soup of the Day was the standard Hot and Sour Soup. It tasted pretty good. The Egg Roll tasted handmade and went well with the dipping sauce. The BBQ Pork was stiff, but tasted alright. The fried rice tasted alright. It had soy sauce, little bits of BBQ Pork, and eggs. We were surprised to be served fried rice since this was our first time being served soy sauced rice instead of white rice at a Chinese restaurant. The tea took a bit to get used to. All the dishes were very salty. The portions were big and we definitely finished our rice, but not the dishes. They open Christmas Day and New Year Day. The place was dated, but the food was cheap. The service was great, but we were the only table. We saw many people coming in and out for take out though. Would probably not come back as we felt it was way too salty.

    Boiled chicken 1/2

We had our food delivered so I cannot speak to the friendliness of the staff or cleanliness of the restaurant. We ordered the Boiled Chicken, BBQ Pork and Beef Chow Fun with Bean Sprouts. The food was ready and delivered on time. The boiled chicken was huge, juicy and flavorful. The sauce complimented the chicken well and wasn't overpowering. The beef chow fun had a fair amount of tender beef and great noodles. The BBQ pork was pretty big and had great flavor. It was a little on the dry side but that could be due to the travel time. We'd definitely return

Do you know why this place has the best Chinese food in old town Chinatown? Because at the time of this review, it is the only Chinese restaurant left in old town Chinatown (and it's really good, so let's support them!) Start with the green beans and potstickers. Don't forget the green beans. I sometimes get a little overwhelmed with Chinese menus because I don't really know what everything is. This time I learned about fun noodles. Google says, "Fun noodles is a common term for ho fun (or he fen), which are wide, flat rice noodles popular in Cantonese cuisine. The most famous dish using these is Beef Chow Fun, a dry stir-fry." The server guided me to get beef chow fun. The noodles were slippery and chewy and the sauce was savory and smoky and I really loved it. It was a huge portion and I got to eat it for lunch the next day too. Get down here and support them so they'll stay. They have a lot of items on the menu so keep coming back and trying everything until you find your favorites. (Get the green beans).

    Hot and sour soup

Ordered hot and sour soup and when I came home and tasted it, it tasted watered down.. To further add I just found a piece of wood in my soup...what the fuck.

Fantastic food. We had a least 10 dishes for 9 people. Chicken shrimp duck pork too many To name but really good

Green beans. Salt and pepper squid. Chicken with double mushroom. Japanese tofu with fish.

Yet again the best Chinese in the city. Asked what the fresh veggie today was an was told green beans. I have never eaten such a delicious green bean in my life. It was stir fried to perfection with garlic. I don't know what they did to it but it was amazing! Of course everything else is great too. Chicken with double mushroom is always a good staple. Salt and pepper squid, super crispy and to die for. And Japanese tofu with fish absolutely amazing. I don't know that I have ever eaten a bad dish here. Everything here is amazing.

This is the best Chinese food I EVER HAD. I'm not kidding and I feel I am pretty credible, considering I've lived in 4 different states! Idk how; even the Chinese food being hella good, they break out the food so fast and fresh. The portions are literally so big. You get to eat, to go and have dinner. It's a combo over here. Thank you

This was the bok choy shrimp. 5 out of 5

Gluten free review: If your in old China town I would definitely stop by the golden horse! The food is absolutely fabulous! They are very knowledgeable with gluten free. I had the tofu with shrimp on top, bok choy with shrimp, and a bowl of rice. It was Devine! They brought a nice hot tea to the table. So... delicious. It was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. When we went, there was a school field trip that they were catering to, and still managed to get to us quickly. Not that that was expected but they were very efficient. Great service and great service and great food. If you are gluten-free, I would suggest trying this place.

If this is good good it's very disappointing! We were referred by China garden because we missed tea time. Nothing special! Duck was cold to the touch and skin not crispy, server says they can't do it hot, just eat with bun. I've never head this before! The seafood plate was a broccoli and mushroom plate and zero flavor.

    Combo number 3
    Daniel N.

Food was great and service fast! We caught the post lunch rush though, so might be busier during prime lunch and dinner hours. For those unsure of what to try first, order one of the combination plates to get to try a few things. The atmosphere is very homely and, importantly, restrooms are clean :) one of the first things I always think about when going into a restaurant.

    Number 4 combo for $12.95

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

The service was good and the staff was attentive during our visit. Here is a breakdown of what we ordered: Hand-Ripped Youpoo Noodle: The absolute star of the meal. The wide, hand-ripped noodles had the perfect chewy texture you look for. They were tossed in a deeply savory, slightly spicy chili oil sauce and topped with a generous amount of perfectly seasoned minced beef and fresh bok choy. It was incredibly satisfying and a must-order. Popcorn Chicken: This was a bit of a letdown. While it looked golden brown and came with a sweet chili dipping sauce, it was not special at all and lacked any unique flavor or punch compared to the other dishes. Spicy Chili Oil Wontons: These were packed with flavor! The wonton wrappers were delicate, and the filling was juicy. They were swimming in a robust, aromatic chili oil that had a nice kick and a touch of vinegar sharpness. Why 4 stars instead of 5? While the noodles and wontons were excellent and the service was good, the atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable. The restaurant was completely empty when we went, but it was super cold inside because the window was wide open. Between the chilly draft and the fairly generic popcorn chicken, it misses out on a full 5 stars.

Typically at most Chinese restaurants, especially fried dishes, you'll see a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. This is not the case here, and their sauces also keep their oil usage to the minimum. The food doesn't feel as heavy, and they nail most of their Szechuan flavors well. Their service is always fast and friendly. There is a gentleman in glasses that is always happy to serve and answer your questions. He is always happy to pack your food for you to go if you have leftovers as well, which is a lovely gesture. They have very cute decorations inside, from lucky cats with fortune cookies in their mouths, or a painted wall with a Panda cooking delicious food. I'd steer clear from their soup dishes, most of them lack flavor. I highly recommend their Chopped Pepper Fish and their Jade Tofu items though. Very flavorful and not very heavy! Plenty of parking is available which is lovely for eating in Portland, do not let this spot be missed if you've never tried it!
