Sunday was my wife's and my first stop into Golden Krust. I know it says "Caribbean" but I always thought it was a Puerto Rican bakery. That is, until I started noticing the reviews on Yelp. So, with updated information in hand, we stopped in for breakfast, just after their 10 AM opening time. I was so happy to learn it is Jamaican, with specials like Goat, Curry, Jerk Chicken, etc. However, since we were here for breakfast, we decided on the Salt Cod. My wife had hers with Acki; and, I ordered mine with Callilou. Each came with stewed bananas, yam, and two dumplings! It was a mountain of food... and, we each got just the small! I also tried a slice of the Hard Dough bread; and, left with a whole loaf! That and the Rock Cake, which was excellent with coffee the next morning. WOW! I am so happy to have seen the updated reviews; and, am happy to call Golden Krust a soon-to-be "regular" stop for me and my wife. We loved it! read more

This location deserves one star. Every time I've decided to come here (3 times) they've been out of whatever I was craving. Is it authentic Jamaican food? No. Is it sufficient enough to cover a craving for Jamaican food? Yes. FYI I'm Jamaican. Unfortunately there aren't many Jamaican spots around here so this is sadly your best bet. Edit to previous post: I was contacted by the store owner and she was AMAZING. From her customer service to communication. After speaking with her in depth and understanding more about how she operates and the standards she holds for herself, her stores and her employees - I decided to go back and give it another chance. The atmosphere felt different. Staff was welcoming. While some were serving food others were cleaning sweeping wiping down common areas. The food was fresh. I mean it was a completely different experience!! She went above and beyond to right the wrong of my past experience and now I'm comfortable with being a regular customer. Thanks again for everything!! Called before I came in for jerk chicken because they usually run out. I called and yes they had jerk chicken. I walked in and instead of being greeted... the person working came around the food line to lock the door. Ok great hi good evening?? Anyways I proceed to order my food and asked for two large plates of rice and peas with jerk chicken. One plate how it comes with white meat only and the other plate with extra rice extra plantain. For some reason it was a problem I was asking for double rice and double plantain in the same plate. Why is this not allowed if I'm asking for extra and willing to pay extra?? After back and forth back and forth I was like ok forget it just put extra plantain in the other plate. Again what is the difference?? Whether you put it with the extra rice or not? I asked for extra. Put extra. Charge me extra. And let's move on. Nope couldn't happen. After all this she goes to the back to make my plates because there was not any food out. After about 10 min in the back another girl comes out and asks me if it's just one jerk chicken meal. REALLY?? Really? After all the back and forth being so resistant about plantain and now someone else comes to ask me what I ordered??? When I explain AGAIN what my order is.... she goes in the back. Another 5 min passes and now I see a cockroach directly beneath the food line. At this point I wanted to walk out. When one of the girls returns I told her there is a dead cockroach here for everyone to see? By the food! Not by the door. Not by the window. No inside by the food. She looks at me and asks me... are you sure it's a roach or is it a water bug? How should I know?? Do I study bug species? What difference does it make if it's a water bug or a roach. A bug is a bug?! I look at her and said no it's a roach. She says thank you for telling me and proceeds to carry on. She doesn't come clean it up. She doesn't come to look where it is. Nothing. No reaction. Meanwhile I'm still here waiting for my food. When she finally comes out of the back to ring up my food, I told her about the cockroach. She seems frightened and asks where. So I pointed. As she is ringing up my food and I am paying... She then tells me..... today we got a shipment and there were bugs in the boxes. How. Can. I. Eat. My. Food. Now?? Literally handing me the receipt and my card as she is saying there's been a bunch of bugs in the boxes that were delivered today. Needless to say the food is sitting in my fridge from last night because I was inclined to bring it back this morning to hopefully speak with a manager about the issue but after thinking about the lack of care the lack of customer service and lack of quality food or sanitary food actually ... It's very hard to find a good Caribbean food joint on this side of Orlando, so places like Golden Krust are a godsend. The food comes quick, everything is served almost buffet style similar to Chipotle. The flavors here are also fantastic. You can choose anywhere from oxtail to curry chicken to goat. The desserts are also pretty good here, I especially have an affinity for the rainbow cake they serve here. And be ready for the portion sizes, they aren't afraid to stack your plate to its limit. I often leave here with a container barely holding it all together. And that's really all I want from a Caribbean restaurant: big portions, plenty of choice, and food that reminds me of what my mom and grandma make. While it may not be some of my favorites on the other side of Orlando, it's a good alternative on this side that I return to often. read more

Went at 245pm got the lunch special which ranges from 11-3pm (I just made it) and I ordered the curry goat lunch special. It was a great portion for 6.99 and got a beef patty on the side for $2. The curry was amazing the beef patty could've been better I got spicy and it wasn't spicy at all and the patty itself tasted like it had been sitting awhile. I'd come again tho. read more

I've been going to this location for quite some time and each time I go my experience with all the staff has been awesome. They are off the chain!!! Both with their professionalism and customer service. Portion size is great and the food is authentic thanks to Head Chef Kevin. When you want the taste of authentic Jamaican food this is the location to come get your food. Mitzy is a great Manager and I look forward to seeing her any time I go which is at least 3X a week (especially for my fave....the soups, brown stew chicken and cow foot). AWESOME!! Excellent choice for lunch! A no-frills cafeteria style Jamaican restaurant located in Waterford Lakes, definitely gets the thumbs up. The interior, while minimalistic, is clean and not bare. There are menus and signs indicating the lunch specials, which I got. It was rice and beans, lamb which was really hearty and satisfying. In addition I ordered a beef patty which was soooo good. Pair it up with a jamaican cola and you've got a hunger-satiating winner! Service was so great! I was clumsy and accidently dropped my bag, spilling the contents within, however the lady remade my lunch box, this time adding more food! I felt like I was being rewarded for my stupidity. Ordered some ackee and saltfish with provisions and a porridge on the side via uber eats. The porridge i don't even know what that is, it's horrible! The balance of salt, pepper and adequate amount of curry powder is crucial in making this meal, appetizing. But what they offer, only at this location is Roti. Golden Krust. I once ate at the one on West Colonial (a few years ago), and I remember being pretty happy with it. It didn't compare with my regular favorite at the time (Mama Millie's, now sadly leveled in favor of a parking garage across from UCF), but I enjoyed it. Now, at this new location? You know, it's still good. Like the one on W 50, my main complaint is the lack of heat in dishes that need it. That's often the problem with a national menu though, it seems that when you have a chain that expands to new regions, you have to sometimes make the menu "safer" (in this case, "less spicy") to satisfy the different tastes in different parts of the country. (Note: this is not a chain-bash, I can't stand you faux-expert self-labeled "foodies" that hate on chains because it's currently cool to hate on chains. Judge the food, not the financial success of the business.) *ahem* Sorry. Anyway, I'm not sure if that's what happened here. But I've been to several local Caribbean restaurants in the area, and all of them "Bring the Pain" better than Golden Krust has. The jerk chicken is flavorful but lacking any significant heat, and certain parts of it (at least, by the time I arrived at around 6:30pm) were a little dry, probably from sitting out all day. Overall it was good though. The curry goat has zero discernible spice, but again the flavor is there, and the pieces I got were all fork-tender and delicious. The cabbage was nothing special but the plantains were tasty and the rice (both the black beans & rice as well as the white rice) was good. Overall? It's definitely good, it's just not great. It will fill you up for less than $10. Problem is, you can fill up at Mark's Caribbean Cuisine, not far away, for the same amount -- and their food IS great. read more

After frequenting this establishment about 4 times in a 3 day period I think I'm qualified to leave a review. I'm originally from Jamaica, lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL and now live in Atl (where there is a serious lack of tasty Jamaican food). The chicken soup I assume was amazing. My husband and toddler devoured it before we made it to the hotel. The brown stew chicken (I'm convinced) was literally cooked in somebody's home and brought there Bc restaurants rarely get "home cooking" THAT right. The oxtails were enough to make your tastebuds sing, I could probably drink the gravy :-) Super tender, very meaty and a delightfully tasty sauce. Very well seasoned. The "jerk pork" wasn't really jerked. It was stewed down at some point in the cooking process which took away from the authenticity of it, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Now the red peas soup!!! THAT WAS A SHOWSTOPPER!! I had to leave town before I propositioned the chef (jokes). I cannot wait to go back. Excellent place to get authentic food! read more

The service is terrible! For some strange reason the workers always seem to have a nasty attitude. I went in earlier and I was treated as if I were a bother. They aren't welcoming. I've been here three times so far and really enjoyed it. I was sad when Millie's Jamaican Cafe was torn down a few years ago and there isn't really another place nearby that's like Millie's. So I was happy when I saw this Golden Krust! You cannot beat a lunch special that includes a large helping of curry or stew chicken, rice & peas, veggies, 2 ripe plaintains, cornbread and a can of soda... for only $5! ENTREES Eventually I want to try everything but so far, I have only tried the jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry goat, and stew chicken. * The jerk chicken was SO GOOD! Really flavorful, but a bit sweeter than I remember Millie's jerk chicken being. Not super spicy but has a kick. If they offer to put extra jerk sauce on your rice - say yes!! The only suggestion I have is I wish there was a way to keep the chicken more tender. * Curry chicken - also good, and also a little different from what I remember of Millie's. I feel like it could be a little more flavorful but not sure how. It had a deeper, more gravy-like flavor compared to other curries I've had. * Stew chicken - Yummy, but different. I was hoping this would taste like Millie's brown stew chicken (which was SO GOOD!) but it was very different. It tasted a little tomato-ey and slightly sweet, and there were peppers and onions in it. I think it was also a little spicy. * Curry goat - tender & flavorful, exactly what my husband was hoping for. I tried a bite and the goat seemed a little fattier than other goat I've had, but it was otherwise good. SIDES * Corn bread - woah, very soft. It stuck to the roof of my mouth. It was good though - slightly sweet & with whole corn kernels. * Rice & "peas" (red kidney beans) - Sometimes a bit dry but otherwise a good carrier for the delicious jerk & curry sauces. * Steamed cabbage & veggies - Fresh! Veggies are usually still slightly crunchy, so you know they're fresh and haven't been sitting & over-cooking for hours. * Ripe plaintains - if you've had ripe plaintains before (aka maduros), you know what to expect. The only thing is, I have had a few of these that didn't seem very ripe, so they were a little tougher and not as sweet. Also, there's no soda fountain -- only canned sodas, and from what I could tell, the only diet option was diet Pepsi (meh). They might offer bottled water but I don't remember seeing it. ENVIRONMENT Small, but there are maybe 10-tables, and most are 2-person tables. There's usually Jamaican/Caribbean music playing, not too loudly. SERVICE Could be better, but not bad. Not bad enough to keep me from returning. The employees could speak louder from behind the counter, because it is really hard to hear them sometimes across the big glass wall covering the food. There's an unfriendly sign on the counter that tells you to put away your cell phone while ordering. If you don't, you'll get a glare! OVERALL To me, the food is not quite as good as Millie's was, but without Millie's around, this is the best Jamaican food I have found in this area! read more
