I'm so disappointed in my first time experience of this place. I feel like I'm being generous with the 3 stars honestly. I called ahead of time to ask what time they close, in which the guy told me 10pm. I told them I'd be there at 6:45pm, and when I did get there, I patiently waited 45 mins to be seated in a chair. I asked if they could do a 3D design on my nails (which I had asked over the phone), and they said they could, but by the time I was seated, and I showed one of the techs what I wanted, she said they stop doing designs at 7pm. I was very frustrated because I could have gone somewhere else if I knew I couldn't get the birthday nails I wanted, but at that point it was too late. So I found a more simple look, in which they agreed they would do. Holly did amazing on my pedicure, but by the time they got to my manicure, I could tell they were rushing. I'm a very understanding and kind person. I honestly wish I had just canceled the manicure. They didn't even prep my nails (i.e. remove my cuticles). The cherry on top was how expensive it was for such a poor job -- $150 . I feel so taken advantage of honestly, and it's a really bad start to my birthday now. She even forgot to put a top coat on my left hand and I can tell the difference.

*Update (this is the next day5/12) I wanted to hear him out after seeing his response that he wanted to make things right. He did apologized and explained I can go back without charge to get my nails redone by Helen who has better experience. In the middle of my response, he cut me off and said "I don't have time, you can come back or book. Have a good day". The customer service here is so bad. The comment was just to make them look better on Yelp. Please look at other people's reviews before deciding to come here! This is the first time I'm giving 1star review. I don't normally give reviews lower than 4 stars, but I'm really disappointed since I paid $120 for a manicure and pedicure that I didn't like. The pedicure was fine since it was just plain white polish. The reason I'm upset is because the lady who worked on my manicure seemed to have an attitude after I asked her to trim the acrylic shorter. I understand misunderstandings can happen, possibly due to a language barrier, but I clearly explained at the beginning that I wanted short almond nails. As a customer, I didn't appreciate feeling like my request was an inconvenience. She even said it's harder to work on short nails. It's frustrating to pay $70 for nails that I'm planning to remove the next day and pay another salon to redo. I still tipped her though I wasn't happy. I also blame myself for not reading the reviews beforehand since there are already a good amount of negative reviews. I'm getting married on Sunday, so things have been hectic, and this was one of the only salons near me that was open late. I really wanted to like this place because the late hours are convenient. * Some nails are crooked

$75 (now $70 with his $5 back) gel fill. Not worth the experience of being talked down to. Stay away!

I have been going to golden nails for the past year, I got builder gel for the first time and politely asked a question about their pricing and details of service, the owner was extremely rude to me. He threatened to block me because I wasted three minutes of his time with my questions and then turned around and said he'd send me $10 off my next visit. I paid $75 for a gel fill. I simply was asking the details of this pricing as he said it was $55 for fill & $10 for chrome. The math didn't math. He said "you learned a life lesson for not asking beforehand" not sure why the owner feels like he needs to teach his customers life lessons. I stated over again that I'm being very polite and was just seeking information - there is no reason to be rude. He then offered me $20 on my next service and then turned around and said he refuses my service, bc just bc I paid doesn't mean I get to ask questions. I'm genuinely confused at what was so triggering to him but certainly no excuse to blow up on a customer. He sent me $5 back on Venmo, but that doesn't start to make up for how rude he was. The techs here are great at what they do, I feel bad that they have to deal with an owner that doesn't hold himself up to a higher standard of customer service, or just simply doesn't display basic human kindness. Update: after talking to others, this owner is new and other customers in addition to his own nail techs have expressed distaste in his mannerisms. This was a phone conversation politely and calmly seeking information on services. I even thanked Helen again for the nails over the phone bc I was very happy with her service. He initially told me $55 + $10 for my nails (fill + chrome), I'm happy to pay more for nails I like, however, misplaced rudeness to a customer will not be excused especially one that has been loyally returning. 2/28: The business owner keeps changing his response to this review, and now is providing lies to deflect from his very poor customer service. I would pay Helen $75+ again to do my nails, but not at a salon that has such a vile owner. Sir - a simple apology goes further than the lies you keep updating on here.

I came here to Golden Nails the second time only because my friend wanted this place and we walked in without an appointment and we were seated at the pedi chairs right away to start service. No wait time is good. I like they offer beverages like coffee and wine while they work on the feet. Both times we did mani and pedi and both times I was disappointed and I don't think I would come back again. The first time I spent nearly $150 for both mani and pedi and they started to chip at around day 4 which was terrible. I had gels the first time. They looked so ugly after chipping away so I had to put on nail polish at home myself to cover it up, then why am I spending $150 again to last a few days?! What a waste. Second time I had the ombré pink and white for my manicure (tried something else for longer lasting since the gel from the first time didn't work well) and black gel polish on my toes. When Tommy said my nails were done, I looked at the backside of my nails and they are dirty, rough, and absolutely need more filing. So I had to ask him to continue working on them. My fingers still had the dead skin and apparently one hand is poorly polished and the powder-turn-into-hard-gel nails has large gaps as if they have grown out after days, and it is the first day!! My toes are not smoothly filed so the color looks like rough edges. The quality is just not there after spending another $130 the second time. Such poor quality and lack of details is really bothering me. I expect professional results when I pay for service, otherwise I might as well just DIY at home.

This is an overdue review, but I feel it's important to share my experience. I saw Tan several times for dip powder on my natural long nails. Each visit was for the same service -- one color dip on the same nail length -- yet the pricing was inconsistent every time. Although he never directly said it, he often seemed frustrated working on long natural nails and would cut corners during the service. He frequently suggested I switch to acrylic because it was "faster" and would make backhanded or snide comments that made the experience uncomfortable. I prefer dip on my natural nails and came in specifically for that service. He attempted to "fill" my dip powder a couple of times instead of properly removing and reapplying it. This is not proper technique for dip and can trap moisture. The last time he did this was my final visit. After that appointment, moisture became trapped and a few of my nails unfortunately developed green discoloration, which I later learned can happen when dip is not removed and reapplied correctly. There was also an uncomfortable moment where he believed I was taking a photo or video and raised his voice saying "no photo," becoming very defensive. I have taken photos of my own nails many times before without issue -- and there is nothing wrong with documenting your own service. I was not recording him, and even if I were taking a photo, it would have only been of my own nails. I have photo proof of both the service and the resulting nail discoloration. I value professionalism, consistency in pricing, respectful communication, and proper nail health practices. Unfortunately my experiences here did not reflect that, so I did not return.

Was a loyal customers since I found them a few years ago. Had my favorite people who I always book manicures and pedicures with. Since the new ownership a few months ago, my go-to people have left (or they got rid of them), payments are not efficient, and the breaking straw was during my last appointment. I requested a gel manicure (which is what I always get) and the younger, heavier set male who said he's new from Philadelphia electronically filed down all the gel and my natural nails leaving me with extremely soft, sensitive, red near-flesh fingers. It was so painful I opted to not do the gel polish. On top of that, he kept on staring at me trying to get my eye contact. Creepy! Paid and left. That's the last time they'll see me! Now I'm stuck with having to use builder gel at another nail salon to make up for the lack of nail strength I have while waiting and hoping my nails grow out strongly.

Don't even want to give one star of ranking if I can. Very disappointing experience. The technician who did my gel pedicure clearly lacked basic nail skills. The white polish was applied unevenly, several nails were not fully covered, some polish was painted outside the nail edges, and the nail shapes were not properly filed. The final result looked sloppy and unprofessional. When I pointed out that the polish was uneven and not covering the entire nail, he repeatedly asked whether I didn't like the color, completely missing the issue I was trying to explain. Instead of removing the polish and fixing the underlying problem, he simply added another thick coat on top, which did not solve the issue. In addition, I paid for a gel pedicure service that clearly included a "5-minute massage." However, there was no actual massage at all. He only applied a small amount of oil briefly, and the entire process lasted less than two minutes. This was not the service that was advertised and paid for. As the second day of my pedicure done, my right little toes nail polish already peeled off. For a professional nail salon, this level of workmanship and service is unacceptable. I am extremely disappointed with both the quality of the pedicure and the lack of professionalism. 200% I will not be returning.

$65 for builder gel manicure with no cuticle care. Just the removal of my old gel nails and new builder gel.

I'm so glad I dropped in during the soft opening of Golden Nails. For starters, the decor is elegant and classy. I was very impressed by the friendly and welcoming staff. Everyone was so helpful. I requested the Luxury pedicure and dip powder with extensions and french design. Jenny did my nails and she did not disappoint! She was so patient, attentive, and kind. Her service was exceptional! I don't remember the gentleman's name who provided the Luxury pedicure, but he was also amazing. The foot massage was one of the best I've ever had. I am very pleased and plan to return. read more

My daughter and I had a great experience here. The technicians were friendly and attentive, and gave us many opportunities to customize our visit. From complimentary drinks to easy to understand service/upgrade menus, we left already excited to come back. Went on a Saturday afternoon as a walk in and LOVED it. I have been looking for a "home" salon since last year since moving to CV and have always been a little let down. Golden nails delivered! Firstly, I love gold LOL, so the name had me. Once you walk in, the decor does transport you and you forget it's a corner nail salon on a busy Intersection. The chandeliers are so pretty, the gold accents bring out the royalty feel. Pretty spacious for the location. Ugh loved it. Love the nail color selection because sometimes it's a hit or miss. Linh did my nails and really took her time to shape them Tony did my toes and paid attention to detail for the French tip. Did I mention the complimentary drink? Oh baby, I will be back! I was greeted as well and didn't catch the name of the lady but I think she may be the owner? Amazing customer service. Will be back read more

As I was driving in Castro Valley, I saw a grand opening sign for a nail shop. I decided to give it a try. I brought my mom to Golden Nails for her birthday. Initially, Stephanie was very welcoming and personable. She checked us in and offered us beverages. Tony worked on my mom's pedicure. He was very slow and made several mistakes but he was apologetic. As my mom stated: "keptsaying sorry." We can in around 6pm and didn't leave until after 730pm. I didn't expect it to be that long. I believe may have been new to the nail field, and that's okay. Everyone starts somewhere. Oh! He forgot to apply the top coat on two of her toes :( Overall, I would come back. Next time, I'll be able to experience it for myself. read more

The shop is very nice, drinks are free, staff is very friendly. I went 8/30/24 to get a gel manicure&pedicure, I was late to my appointment & so that's why I assumed the nail techs were rushing me. The next day I was trying to get a piece of scotch tape off the roll & my left thumb nail lifted up & chipped off. Not even 24 hours later are my GEL nails lifting!! I would understand if it was just regular mail polish but this was GEL? Now 5 days later both my thumb nail gel polish are completely gone & the rest are starting to chip off. I went to Golden Nails for the first time last week and I will definitely be returning! When I walked in I was greeted by Cathy, Vicky and Kim. They were all sweet and so inviting. I was given a drink menu as soon as I sat down and I ordered a Vietnamese coffee (yum!). Cathy gave me a gel manicure and it looks great! Vicky did the cute little design on my nails. I've been going to golden nails for over 6 months and they not disappoint, I've tired almost all of there different nail techs and love my set each time. They've created the inspo nails I've shared. I've also really enjoyed their pedicures. I've also gotten to know some of the employees and they are the sweetest!!! I usually book online but they are accommodating for walk-ins! Ps. This salon is beautiful, and the design is extremely modern and well done. The salon is clean, and the customer service is excellent. They offer a wide variety of colors. The owner is extremely nice. They have a bar that provides a variety of different beverages. It almost feels like you are visiting a fancy salon in Beverly Hills, but it's right here in Castro Valley. I wanted to love this salon more but sadly, it fell short in many ways. The parking is really bad, which isn't really their fault, but good to know. They have about two spaces allotted to them and squeezing in next to a giant BMW was not great. The salon itself feels clean but with the door left open it brought in a lot of flies. The street is also super busy so it was very noisy. Think trucks reversing, going BEEP BEEP BEEP. Not really the relaxing salon vibe here. They also had weird action movies playing back-to-back on the big screen for all to watch. No offense, don't really want to watch Spartacus (the 1960s version) while I'm getting my nails done, or ever really. I felt like I was waiting to get my oil changed or something. Why not just play some chill music? None of the aesthetic in this salon made any sense, really. Lowkey tacky, in my opinion. I had made an appointment online which was a smooth booking process. Despite booking the service and specific staff member which I based on reviews, that was not the reality. The check-in person had no idea what service or person I selected, so I had to look at the form again to remember what I had chosen (there are a dozen options for pedicures!). A small detail, but definitely makes the customer feel more at ease coming in if you already know what they booked. As other reviewers have said, the ladies here ARE really nice...maybe too nice? The upselling tactics were borderline shady. I went in for a simple pedicure and noticed they pulled the gel polish ($15 extra), and I had to remind them I wasn't doing gel. Maybe a simple mistake, but then after painting my toes, the nail tech asked (very sweetly) if I wanted a quick little design. I agreed, and yes, I take responsibility for not clarifying if it cost extra. I have been to other nail salons in the past and they did not charge me for a little tiny flower, so I said yes. At NO POINT did she say anything like "Just to let you know, that is $10 extra." While she was doing the design, she then asked if I wanted a manicure, too. Obviously I know that would be a lot extra, so I declined. I just really did not appreciate the constant bombardment of trying to make more money off of me and also lacking the transparency was a huge red flag. They do give you a cold drink at the start of your service, which is a nice touch and I'm now surprised that they didn't tack that onto my bill, too. All said and done I paid close to $80 including tip for a "deluxe" pedicure (supposedly 8 minute massage...more like 2 minute aggressively crunching your legs). What's worse, the nail tech didn't paint a lot of the toes fully, so a good portion of the borders are missing paint entirely (don't really want to post pictures of my feet to show that...you get it). At checkout, they did not honor the "10% off for booking online" that they advertised, and I was over it at that point so I just paid the bill. I will not be back. read more

I asked for a trendy design and I think that's where I went wrong. These ladies are very nice! And they give you free a drink for being there but I think they just do the basics. I'll add a photo of what I asked for and what I got. I did end up going back and asking them to take it off and do a purple French tip instead and they very kindly did that but it has hairs and some unevenness still. I'll probably be back but just for an all over color or a pedi! read more

Sent my wife to Golden Nails as she was having a super rough week and needed some downtime. She was pampered beyond her expectations. Upon walking in she was offered a complimentary glass of wine while she waiting in the waiting area. Her wait was short (as she had an appt) and they set her up for her pedicure. She appreciated the massage and loved the way her nails came out. She can't wait to go back and we plan to send our daughters there for their upcoming events. read more

Great customer service and attention to detail! Lots of color options for dip. Techs seemed experienced in different techniques such as dip, builder gel, etc. I did dip and can tell Tan was experienced by the way he applied the dip powder. I've only seen one other tech do it the way he does. They offer you a menu of drinks that's on the house. The place is so clean and relaxing. Most salons I go to can be so chaotic so it's never really a relaxing experience for me. They really thought through every detail for their customers experience. The only con is parking. They have very limited space so you would need to park across the street. I would return! read more

The worst nail salon you have ever been to! Do not even waste your time and money. I usually do not write reviews but I was really shocked by their work and attitude to the customers. I gave 2 chances to the salon, just because they live close by , but very unprofessional stuff . 2 times and I tried different people to do manicure for me but it is terrible ! Today I came to the salon showing my hands and nicely asking just to remove the nail polish , because 10 days after the manicure was done the nail polish is coming off, looks cheap, and in good salons it never happens ! I was ready to pay , but honestly expected the stuff would apologise and offer to redo , instead when i sat in the chair, the lady came to me and started yelling that everybody is happy with the manicure . I told her that I do not want to fight and I am ready to pay, but all I want is to remove bad nail polish. She was yelling , screaming while customers were there , so at the end she said we have a right to refuse to do any procedures and said I have to leave . I am attaching the manicure pictures . The only nice thing they have is that they offer drinks and coffee , but other than that it is not a good place . I called around 10:30 and requested a same day appointment for a ibd gel fill they actually took my name and phone number to reserve my appointment over the phone. When I arrived the parking lot is small but has clearly dedicated parking spots and it's tucked away from the street so if you blink you may miss it. The customer service was amazing. I was seated immediately and offered a beverage of my choice from a menu the had. I'm so happy with how my nails turned out and will be returning for a pedicure and for future fills. For my full gel set with their grand opening discount (for a limited time) total came to $56 plus a $15 tip. They are upfront with their prices as well and have SO MUCH nail art stuff from chromes to charms and crystals. read more

Usually I never leave reviews, but my experience at this place was not the best. I went this past Saturday with my mom for a facial/face spa. It was their grand opening and they were having a promo either 40% off this time or paying full price and 100% off the next service. Unfortunately I had already gotten my nails done, so I opted for the face spa. We check-in at exactly our appointment time which was 2:15pm and we got escorted to the waiting area. One of the receptionist explained to us that their system had overbooked people and there would be a wait. She went ahead and told to help ourselves to some food and got us some refreshments. A few minutes later, two more people came in and were led to the waiting area. The same receptionist asked us again if we checked in and I went over to make sure I did even though that was the first thing I did after they greeted us. Right when I was confirming the services, another person (person A) walked in claiming her appointment was at 1pm but she had allowed someone (person B) to go ahead of her to do their facial, as she was running late. When person A walked into the salon, she was upset that she had only allowed for person B to go through with the facial and not start on a manicure. This was already a huge red flag, but I still continued to wait with my mom for our facials. I was later informed that there was only one technician that was available to do facials today and that was already 1 hour into waiting. After about another 30 min to 1 hour, they finally were able to assist one of us for the facial and I let my mom go first. By this time it was already past 4:00pm. About 30 min later, my mom was done and it was my turn, but they had to clean up the room/table. Then the same receptionist asked me if it was ok if someone went ahead of me as they were only doing a quick wax and it would only take 10 min. In my head, I really should have said no since I already waited practically 3 hours, but I just let them go ahead since I already waited so long. Finally it was my turn, and the facial was alright. It wasn't anything fancy, and it was a pretty refreshing as a face spa should be. Going to pay was a bit awkward. I asked the receptionist if there was anyway we could be compensated for the time we wasted waiting around for their one facial technician. She asked the manager and the only thing they could offer was the 40% off that day's service or 100% off next time. That was already what the promotion was for today, so it's like practically a scam, since that's what they advertised online already. I was only down for any small percentage/dollar discount for next time, but nothing. I do understand that not everything was their fault because things happen, but constantly asking if they could get us anything or more refreshments really was not helping and the lack of actual updates was frustrating. I could've walked out and saved myself and my mom's time for a barely decent facial. Grand opening or not, they need to have a better system and better communication with their clients instead of keeping them in the dark. Not sure if it's related or not but the same night, as I was brushing my teeth, getting ready for bed, I found two pimples on my face that's were not there in the morning before my appointment. read more

Tan and Tommy are always great, they pay attention to detail and remember what I like. I usually get an acrylic full set and fills and they know my shape and never fail! I usually always have a few good laughs in there cause they are all super friendly and keep the vibe upbeat instead of just talking amongst themselves. I had to spend the day in Castro Valley so with time to kill I booked a deluxe spa pedicure here at Golden nails. I had never been here before. First of all the Salon is adorable and very beautiful. Is is immaculately clean. The staff is friendly and helpful and greeted me right away. I was offered a drink which I accidentally spilled a little bit of and they were so gracious in cleaning it up for me. I felt bad, but it was an accident. My pedicure was truly the best I have ever had in my 65 years on this planet and on top of it I am a licensed nail tech in the state of California so I know a good pedicure. This was top-tier, they know what they're doing and provide a relaxing, top-notch pedicure. I had a scrub, a wonderful relaxing massage, paraffin and hot rocks service. It was truly exceptional. I cannot recommend this salon more. I do not know any of these women here. I have never been to the salon before and just randomly picked them out of the book when I discovered I would be in Castro Valley for the day. I've had these nails for a month, starting from my Hawaii trip. In that time, I've climbed rocks, opened boxes, and done all sorts of rough activities. When I went to get a new set, these nails were still intact with no lifting at all! They also offer a wide variety of colors and plenty of adorable flower designs to choose from. It looks super cute!
