Fish with fried rice
Melissa C.

My go to order is the fish with brown gravy. I have been coming here over 25+ years. The cream cheese wontons are also very delicious! Definitely a family favorite.

Combination fried rice meat chicken shrimp and egg drop soup with crunchies.

I walk in and I'm greeted by gentleman his name is Jerry he works the front door and asked me where I'd like to sit so I go into the table I want and my waitress immediately comes and takes my order. I ordered a three-piece fish with gravy on top and fried rice combination fried rice and an egg drop soup with hot oil. My order came out like in 10 to 12 minutes everything was fresh and delicious if you haven't tried the fish and gravy you need to try very good fried rice was delicious my egg drop soup was amazing [[HIGHLIGHT]]restaurants clean and so are the restrooms plenty of parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Golden Star has never disappointed when it comes to that fish and gravy special! It always hits the spot! I've been coming here since I was a toddler and Service is always fast and place is usually clean for being in a very old old building.

This restaurant has been a staple in san Antonio for many years. I have been going to this restaurant since I was young. The atmosphere and ambiance make you feel right at home when eating Chinese food. Their shrimp fried rice is some of the best in san Antonio. Pretty much everything is on point. I especially like their egg drop soup.

#99...enough said. If you're in SA and need to try a great meal that is part of the local culture, get the fish and gravy.

Awesome food. The outside of the restaurant is a little unassuming and it's tucked away in the…read morecorner of a shopping complex, but as the other reviews say, food is amazing. I don't think it's truly authentic Chinese food, but an in between little diner with great and attentive service, reasonable prices and a lot on their menu. What we ordered came out super quickly and all the dishes were very good. We got egg drop soup (delicious), one stir fried seafood dish (shrimp and scallop- so good!), shrimp fried rice (great), the General Tso's beef (my husband loved this!), chicken lo mein. Generous portions for all dishes. I am sure this place is great for to go also because they must have had 25 to go orders in the 45 minutes we were there to eat.

So disappointed esp after reading the reviews here, expected excellence…read more Food looks good but fools you. Came for the fish with black bean sauce. It was coated with flour like fried chicken instead of corn starch which it should be Couldn't taste the black bean sauce although the sauce was strong Sweet and sour soup was full of good items but so much pepper it made me cough Soups are in tiny cups they call small bowls White rice is good and sticky Shrimp with lobster sauce is nothing like it should be, mostly corn and tasteless, I mean tasteless like water Not the usual recipe others serve. The beef rice noodles were like I would make from a reg pan at home without, again, taste. They need that wok taste but it's not there So disappointed, not cheap either , easily $18 a plate Place was clean and looked decent but what good is that if the food is lousy?

The staff is super friendly and courteous :) ! We usually order the beef vermicelli soup, and a variety of dumplings :D ! They serve our food pretty promptly, with the soup still hot and tasty, and the dumplings steamy and savory :D ! My sister doesn't eat pork. So she typically orders dumplings that don't contain pork. I eat all kinds of meat. So I always order the pork and chive dumplings :D ! Whether you come in on a weekday or weekend, it always helps to come early if you can! If we want to go there for lunch, we try to get there as close to 11 am as possible when they first open. As it gets closer to 12 noon, it starts to get really busy, and it's harder and trickier for the staff to seat you. There is both booth and table seating. It's a great restaurant to catch up with friends, family or even colleagues over a good meal :) ! The parking lot out in front is a pretty decent size. But it can fill up pretty quickly when it gets busy! We also love ordering frozen dumplings to go :D ! For sure, we will definitely come back :D ! Kung Fu Noodle never disappoints :) !

Each of the lunch specials come with crab rangoon, egg roll and soup (I chose egg drop soup). We had the Shrimp and Vegetables, Sesame Chicken, and Triple Delight. We noticed the decor had changed (yes, I said it had been many years) and it was quite nice! We were seated promptly and placed our drink order (tea came with lunch). We ordered Rangoon as a starter. The lunch specials came with soup and egg roll, and fried rice. DH ordered his litmus test dish for American style Chinese- General Tso chicken. The portion was generous. The sauce was tasty. The chicken pieces tasted like your average frozen nuggets tossed in sauce. It's that familiar "seasoning" to the chicken and coating- iykyk. Not bad at all, just not the best. He enjoyed his egg drop soup. I opted for Hunan Beef. The sauce was thicker than I prefer, with an almost gelatinous consistency. The hot and sour soup was nice, a little more sour than hot. We both thought the fried rice that came with lunch was a little bland. Maybe the entree version is better? Each special was under $10, and it's definitely a great value.

It was the in between time of late lunch 2:30-3pm so we thought we would miss the Sunday afternoon church rush. The parking lot and restaurant was full but didn't let it scare us. Only had to wait 5 mins. Don't let the full restaurant fool you. The wait staff checks in often and moves tables very fast. Pro tip- you can hang outside and check out the koi fish in the pond to kill some time Sat down and drinks came out fast ordered dim sum which came out in the cute steam baskets first. Shrimp Shumai and pork bao buns were so good. My kids asked for seconds We also ordered the sweet and sour chicken, spicy eggplant/tofu, shrimp& broccoli and the combination fried rice. Everything was perfectly seasoned with the exception of the sweet and sour chicken. It was very bland. Next time I want to order the orange peel chicken instead. Looked good and now we know! So much food we'll have leftovers for a few days. Score!

The shumai is from a bag and you can tell the difference between that and a real shumai. A true Asian restaurant will never mix dishes (ie having Chinese and Thai food) on the menu.
