Went for a birthday lunch with some friends and had a really disappointing time. One friend had been here years ago and another one had only been to the Blanco location years ago as well. I wanted to come here since the "Mojarra Chicharron" fish dish was tasty the last time I was here with friends who also ordered it as well since we had it another time before. It was consistently well-prepared and tasty. Well, I talked it up and ended up ordering it again. I asked the waitress what kind of fish they use and first she said Tilapia. Then I asked is that all you have because I remember it was a different fish? Then she said they have Red Snapper and a Sea Bass. She said the Red Snapper is the most popular so I picked that one. My friends ordered street tacos and Guacamole. First off, we sat in a booth and the dance music was way too loud and as the waitress was explaining certain things on the menu, we couldn't hear her. Each booth has a speaker above so even if we moved, the music would be the same volume. We asked her if she could turn it down since we couldn't even hear each other talking and had to raise our voices. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she said she'd ask her manager. After we said this, the people in the next booth over also complained that it was too loud. I think the waitress lowered it twice since the first time wasn't enough. When we got our dishes, I noticed that my fish presentation was basically a sloppy presentation with a boney carcass on top & dry fish pieces on the bottom that were not intact as before and as represented in the menu. I thought of trying to eat it but it was dry and not flavorful. Even my salad was dry with no salad dressing?? I asked the waitress if they could bring vinegar and she said they don't have vinegar?? I said "You don't have vinegar??" And she said "No" so I asked for lemon and she said they have limes and if that was okay? I said that was fine so my plate had a pile of limes. My friends and I thought what kind of restaurant doesn't have vinegar on-hand?? I even asked if they had salad dressing and she said they only had Ranch dressing. We looked puzzled again as we thought it was weird that they didn't have several options for salad dressings? She didn't bother to ask in the kitchen if they had vinegar because we asked another server & he said they did and was it okay if it's the dark kind with oil & I said perfect!! Any vinegar is fine. He brought the rusty bottom tray out to us with vinegar and oil and I was relieved. We asked for at least Ranch Dressing before that because my salad was dry but the waitress never came. We think she was overwhelmed and had too many tables. Perhaps she was new too? I ended up eating some pieces and was disappointed so I pushed it aside to the left of me. I lost my appetite and didn't want to eat dry rice, dry fish that the vinegar couldn't even save nor dry salad. My friend saw my disappointment and went up to the Manager to explain the situation. The Manager came to the table back & said she'd take it off our bill & apologized saying the cook who does the fish called in & it's sad what happened to him and that she felt emotional just talking about it. I said I was sorry that happened as I'm empathetic to these things. I still think they should've had a backup cook who can prepare the fish instead of just one person who's the expert or knowing that cook is the only one who can prepare it correctly, don't offer any fried fish dishes. The waitress asked if I wanted a dessert even to go but I didn't even care to eat anything else they had to offer. I just wanted to leave. The waitress came back with the bill and also took off the guac & 25% off my friends' dishes. I appreciate the gesture but it was still a ruined experience. If I came back, I'd ask if someone can prepare the fish correctly that day before I order that. read more

If you're in the mood for some pretty awesome fish (particularly shrimp) you will never go wrong by stopping in at either location of El Bucanero. My favorite is the whole fries red bass. I really enjoyed El Bucanero the atmosphere was chill and the crowd was all having a good time. I could tell even the staff were happy. The food was fantastic the ceviche was delicious. We were a party of 15. We were quickly seated and drink orders were taken. Jeshua brought our drinks and we found out the had lunch specials. Another server brought us two specials menus and one of our party finally asked for additional special menus. I ordered the fish plate (grilled) which came with Fideo and a drink. The our waiter (Jeshua) was outstanding! He we all received our food together so no one had to wait. The Fideo was delicious and we were served bowls not cups. The grilled fish also delicious. By far the best in the area when it comes to good quality food, service, and ambiance. Had a family of 16 gathering to celebrate a birthday. Took three minutes for them to set up a table and settle us in. They quickly took our drink requests and let us view the menu. Since it wasn't our first visit, we knew what we wanted. We ordered two molcajete El Bucanero, 1 Cameron's El Bucanero, 1 Bucanero Platter, 1 Filet de Pescadop a La Plancha, 1 Fajita mixes, and 1 fish and fries. Everyone left full with leftovers that went home. Service was on us to ensure we were happy. Drinks refilled without asking. I love the decor of this resturant so festive. What a great place to have fish. We had lunch here and did the lunch special. It's a very hearty meal. We had pan fried fish with french fries and salad. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the restaurant and very kind to us. The service is excellent. You feel like you're in a real fisherman's town as you walk in. The walls are all plastered with manual items so you can actually see what the dish is all about this makes and looks the place. Feel like you're on a pier or on a wharf. Overall, I wasn't too crazy about this place. Service, Joel G, was great, but the food and drinks were very mid. The vibes were cool, lots of Christmas decor. The grilled fish was very bland, like no seasoning, but the grilled shrimp were over seasoned. The ceviche was good, and had that been all we got, I would say this place is great.. but ceviche is more like a snack or appetizer in my opinion. The margarita wasn't anything special, and the michelada just tasted like premade mix and beer. It does come with a HUGE beer, and it's $23.50. The margarita was $15. The prices aren't on the menu, in my opinion they're a little overpriced. Especially the margarita. It can't be any more than 12-16 ounces for $15. I am a person that doesn't like seafood but oh my god. I saw the Mexican menu and the enchiladas were delicious. The service was amazing as-well. The waitress was constantly coming to our table to ask for drinks. There was this girl that asked to take a picture of my family and I and we agreed, when she took the picture she print it out and asked us if we wanted it but the picture was free unlike some people who make you pay. The whole restaurante gave calm and cool vibes. I loved the decoration and they had the FIFA on. It was especially beautiful since it was during the World Cup. My family and I went here for my birthday! I'd been craving classic Mexican seafood. The service was fast and they checked in regularly. They even came out and sang to me with lights when they found out it was my birthday LOL The decorations are all very nautical and sea creatures. On our way out, I noted the plaque (see pic) and had a good laugh. My mom and MIL both had piña coladas and I'm not sure if they were eating the pineapple at the end or they kept finding more drink at the bottom of the pineapple with hot they kept going back to it! I had the medium Ceviche en Salsa de Mango. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach because I took some home for lunch the next day. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The freshness of the ceviche was only enhanced by the mango and the cucumbers gave the crunch I wanted when I wasn't using crackers or tostada to eat the ceviche. My wife got her usual with a Tostada Mixta and that's probably the dish with the most bang for your buck! You can just barely see the tostada peeking out in the picture with how loaded that thing is! She of course had leftovers for lunch as well. My mom got the Tostada Elizabeth and was in agreement on the freshness. My sister got the Ceviche Mixto and gave me her avocado slices (surprisingly, she's never been a fan of the texture) of which I was happily obliged. These ceviche bowls seem small, but you'll eat and eat and still have leftovers. My brother got the shrimp and fries and no complaints there! He's quick to complain, so no comments from him means it's good. My FIL got the mojarra and a few of us got a little jealous haha! It looked really good and we might have to get that next time if we don't make it at home first! My BIL got the ceviche verde and had no complaints. The green salsa was the tastiest and a milder spice, but the orange salsa definitely made its way to me despite the heat. We've been here before and always leave satisfied. This place is true Mexican seafood, everything we had was delicious. If your kids don't like seafood, know there's a wide kid's menu, including quesadillas and mini steak tacos served with fries. We ordered micheladas and they were yummy, we got the plain micheladas, there's a "preparada" (prepared) that comes with shrimp and cucumbers on the rim. We had a marisco tower and medium cocktail, both amazing. If you're more of a lemony person go for the tower but you can't go wrong with either one. Know the marisco tower is very fulfilling, I was not able to finish it. Isaac R provides amazing service and recommendations, ask for him if possible. The place is louder than most but you are able to have a conversation comfortably. Place is clean. Overall great If you are hesitant about coming, do yourself a favor and go. read more

This very popular restaurant was not busy at all on a Tuesday at lunch - surprising! Very friendly, responsive server answered questions and took our order. We order lunch specials that start with a large bowl of fideo. Nice broth and LOTS of noodles! Could have been a light meal on its own. Our entrees were grilled chicken breast and grilled fish plates. Both came with French fries and a very standard green salad on the plate. The fish was thin and crispy on the edges, but I would have preferred a bit more seasoning. The fries were VERY good - hearty and with some type of extra crispy coating. Three types of sauces in squeeze bottles were brought to the table: habanero (or maybe chipotle?), jalapeno, and "regular" along with ketchup. The jalapeno was a creamy pale green and just the right spicy to add a nice kick to the fish. The only negative was that the MUSIC WAS SO LOUD that we had to lean in across the table to hear/be heard, and we spent way too much time asking each other to repeat what was said! Overall, though, a nice, basic seafood lunch. Next time I'll order the ceviche! read more

Our first question is what are the hard corn tortillas (tostadas?) in the ziplock bags for. He acted out what to use them for. Basically, squirt one of the three hot sauces on them and eat. The menu is quite extensive, seafood touching every plate. I went for a classic ceviche mixto (shrimp and fish). It was the freshest tasting ceviche I've had in a while the small for $8.99 was almost too much. It was topped with 5-6 slices of avocado and rimmed by slices of cucumber. The server says next time get the black or green ceviche. And I quote - my head will explode. The black especially. I will. I also had the camarones de La plancha (grilled butterflied shrimp with salad, rice and beans). Husband had a similar plate, but also had a couple of filets. He says the filets each had a different seasoning. The table behind us was drinking quarts of beer. Yes, quarts. So cool. Really good place. Go there. read more

A friend recommended this place to us, but because of the low reviews, we were skeptical. After eating, I wondered for very long how this place currently only had 3 stars. The food came quickly, the servers were attentive, and the food was delicious. What more could you want? My favorite was the Molcajete "El Patron". I've never had something like this before. The bacon house sauce was so flavorful, and the seafood in it was cooked perfectly. It was literally a flavor explosion in your mouth, I couldn't get enough. In the molcajete, the grilled octopus took my heart. It was so tender, I cut it with my spoon. It was definitely the best grilled octopus I've ever had in my entire life. We also ordered ceviches and they were really fresh. My favorite way they were enjoyed it was in Aguacates Rellenos stuffed with Ceviche Negro. The seafood was cooked perfectly, it was refreshing and flavorful, and the avocado provided wanted creaminess. All the food here was spectacular, and I wish I lived in San Antonio to visit more often. read more

Every time I come here is incredible. This time around we ordered a medium green ceviche (fish and shrimp mix) super tasty and the right amount of spicy. The mango aguachile was the perfect combination of sweet and savory, never forget to top your tostada with their killer salsas, my personal favorite is the chipotle one. The staff as always attentive and ready to refill drinks and tostadas when running low. I hadn't been to this location before but the last time I was at this restaurant was 12 years ago. Some friends were meeting at the movies and suggested we meet here first. The place is always packed so I was worried about a long wait. I was seated immediately even though our whole party had not arrived. The place was clean and the staff was attentive. I ordered a michelada and it was delicious. Practically a meal on its own. I love ceviche on a beach vacation and this hit the spot. I really enjoyed my meal. We were in town for work at the airport and had a long day, we had to rush it there cause they were about to close and still took us in 15-10min before closing(I'll give them that)they kept accepting more customers after us but the waitress were rushing every one to order before the last call, passed the order situation everything slowed down so we could enjoy our food, let me warn you the portions here are massive! one mitotero was enough probably for 4 adults the ceviche tostadas are more like seafood towers and the enchiladas are to died for San Luis style, loud place, great for parties.
