The food here is delicious. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and it crispy, had tons of flavor, and topped it with their housemade ranch-- all excellent. I was nervous about the sandwich because I usually find chicken thigh to be too fatty and dark for me, but the chicken was perfect and it seems they had cut all of the fat off, or I just had a perfect piece. Also had the cheese fries. The cheese sauce is spicy and delicious and is perfect as an appetizer on its own or paired with a sandwich. Their house sauce is great too, kind of an imitation cane's sauce, always good. So the food was good but I wanted to warn people about how to actually get to it. We drove around the block probably 3 times before we actually knew where to find this truck, which is completely surrounded by a bar, a restaurant, a huge trailer, and a construction site. The truck is completely hidden. Then had to look for a place to park for another 15 minutes, and ended up walking about a mile to the place. Try to walk here if you can. Then, we walk up to the truck and are told that in order to be served, we needed to enter through the doors of courtyard/restaurant/bar on the other side of it. We tried to walk through, and were very confused when we were stopped by a "bouncer" from the bar. Had no idea it was a bar, and the man denied us (we are 21+) because we "tried to walk in the bar without ID" even after showing them to him... We were very confused and just wanted to eat from the food truck, it was all very strange. We then had to order online and wait next to a construction site dumpster before peaking over the fence to ask the people in the truck for the order. So to recap: food is great and if you are in the mood to sit in the smoking area of a bar or wait by a dumpster for your food, then you should try it. I'm not sure the food was worth the experience we had but I would definitely go again if they were in a more accessible location or had their own storefront. But this is Austin, a city which would be more accurately branded as the city of style over substance rather than the "live music capital of the world." Have you been to NOLA? I digress. So I ordered chicken strips and fries. Basic. Safe. Easy to do a solid job, and not super hard to really nail it. Alas. The fries look and taste like they were ordered from McDonald's this morning and reheated in a microwave for my order. Mind you, I've got nothing against McDonald's. As it happens, I just don't eat there unless I'm drunk and not the one ordering the Uber at the end of the night, or maybe if I'm desperately hungry during a cross country road trip and despite my better judgment I pull up to the arches at a rest stop because dying of starvation is my only. other. option. But I don't mind McDonald's because they know who they are. They're not pretending to be upscale by parking themselves at one of the coolest bars on Austin's East Side and hawking their legitimately crappy food for $20 a plate. No they're crap and you know what you're getting when you eat there. Golden Tiger is trying to fool you. Their chicken strips are disappointing in the same way it sucks to get what looks like a hand written letter in the mail only to find out it's just some sophisticated 21st century marketing strategy from a life insurance company. They actually look kinda good. Each chicken strip is coated in an ostensibly enticing variegated dark brown layer of... well... that's the trouble: who the hell knows what it actually is but it's about as crispy as a wet paper towel and thinner than what passes for toilet paper in most government buildings. Things do not improve when your teeth get into the actual chicken which, despite whatever they dipped it in, tastes like it went directly from the shrink wrapping and into a fryer. All this goes a long way to explain why they have a variety of sauces. Because in theory, if you drown this awfulness in enough sauce you might not realize what you've been duped into putting into your mouth, kind of like when you --actually I'm going to skip that analogy because this is a family place. So, I went with three recommended sauces: the BBQ, buffalo, and... I dunno some creamy orange one. The buffalo was passable, which at this point was a pleasant surprise. But the BBQ should be ashamed of using that name for itself less than a mile away from Kerlin's, LA BBQ, and Franklins (all of which are legitimately awesome exceptions to my opening statement). The creamy orange thing tastes like if you took mayonnaise and somehow filtered out any mayonnaise flavor and replaced it with... pretty much nothing. I don't know. In trying to describe this I've literally just tasted it alone three times and it still tastes like if the vacuum of space had the texture of mayonnaise. Hopefully you appreciate my sacrifice, dear reader. Look. Part of me is sorry for being so rough on Golden Tiger. I want to support local businesses, but Austin keeps pretending to be a foodie town, and while there are genuinely a handful of great places, how they share 4+ star reviews with charlatans like Golden Tiger that seem to serve crap almost directly out of the freezer is an abomination. read more

Our friend placed a to go order so it's hard to comment on how the to go process was but the food were individually packed in boxes that were compostable so that's a plus. The buns were soft and buttery and I really really liked that at one end of the sandwich, the buns were connected together so that the filling doesn't fall through when you hold it up like a burger. My partner got a burger and I got the Thai chicken sandwich. The sandwich was decently sized, but the chicken only filled 3/4 of the sandwich. The chicken thigh was juicy and crispy, but because we got it to go, the chicken wasn't coated in the sauce which made it difficult to eat because pouring the sauce in would make a mess but so was dipping the sandwich into the sauce at every bite. The vegetables in the Thai sandwich, was very overpowering, especially the basil, which was not too pleasant as it detracted from the chicken. The burger though, was a pretty solid burger. Patties were large, making it very filling. The only drawback is that it is pretty oily, so eating too much of it made me feel greasy. WORST FOOD EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. 50 min wait AT A FOOD TRUCK (they tell you the wait after you pay and order and you can't cancel) , HORRIBLY burnt food- it was inedible, even when I returned, they couldn't swallow their own food. Even worse, when I arrived at the order window, I waited for 10 minutes and was ignored. Eventually asked if they were open. The gentleman said "order online man, what's your deal?". Every time I visit Golden Tiger, I find a new favorite dish on the menu. This time, I tried the new Hot Dog - a grilled, all-beef frank on a potato bun. The frank had a perfect char from the grill, offset by the tangy pickled cabbage. The karachi mayo was creamy but hot, and the fried shallots on top added crispy texture. Delicious and very reasonably priced at only $6! I'm also a fan of the Golden Burger, an Asian twist on the classic American burger with a flavorful pork patty and crispy fried wonton (I recommend adding cheese as well). And the fried chicken sandwich here is probably the best I've ever had - crispy and well-seasoned breading with a tender, juicy interior. The spicy sauce and slaw make the perfect combination. There are several tasty veggie dishes available too, including the cheese puffs, which are perfect for me since I love crab rangoon but can't eat shellfish. I came through the drive-thru at about 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. I was helped by a very friendly lady who mentioned that they were very busy and the wait was so long because everyone was ordering a lot of food and mine was the least expensive at $55.96. However, first I was NOT given a receipt. I ordered one chicken sandwich with fries and a Mountain Dew without ice; one four piece chicken strips (or three piece - whichever is smaller) with fries and macaroni with no drink; one six piece chicken strips with double fries and no drink; and two six piece chicken strips both with fries, macaroni and no drinks. I was told the extra side was because I was ordering combos with no drinks. I was told that the chicken sandwich would take five minutes and to please pull up out of the drive-thru and park to wait on our order. After 30 minutes, I went inside to check on the order. The lady at the drive through saw me and told the person putting the order together that I was the one waiting on the sandwich. I had to wait some more so I asked if I could have one extra roll and they said it cost $1.75 so I said never mind and waited for my food. I was given my food then left. I got home to find I had NO macaroni at all! How do you miss four macaroni's???!!! Especially when they tell you about the substitution themselves because you aren't ordering drinks?!!! This is actually the second time I have been to this Golden Chick location and did not receive several macaroni's. I also was not given a receipt. I called later to let them know that I did not receive my macaroni's and I was not given a receipt but no one ever answered the phone.
