    Rendang

The hunt for the best Beef Rendang in Philly led me to Golden Triangle. This Beef Rendang was seasoned well, the curry was rich but the meat was a tough chew and the portion was underwhelming. Not exactly what I'd expect from a contender for the best Beef Rendang in Philly. The Singapore Fried Mee Hoon with Shrimp was ok. The dish mostly consisted of noodles with some veggies and a small shrimp. It was good with a sweetness that was addictive.

Ordered take-out from Golden Triangle as it was nearby for easy pick-up, and we have been wanting to try it for a while now. We got the Chicken Satay, the Malaysian Pork Chop and the Thai Green Curry with Shrimp. Everything was hot and delicious. Both entrees came with steamed rice as well. Really enjoyed our take-out and would for sure order from them again!

First time trying delivery from this restaurant. It was amazing!!! Delicious tasty food. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all very good. My husband "inhaled" his spring rolls and I found their samosas to be delicate and delightful as all the other dishes were too :)

We only came for desserts last night but looks like we need to come back to try their apps and mains too! The peanut pancake was part savory and part sweet - imagine peanut butter in Roti Canai. Very tasty! The Farluda was pretty much like Indian Falooda - a milk based drink with vermicelli, tapioca seeds, jelly, rose syrup and topped with ice cream. Looks like a family based small business and the owners are very sweet.

We were at FDR park and my dining partner was hungry for Thai. This popped up with really reviews on Yelp! so off we went to try it out. Street parking was available a block away. For a Saturday at 12:30pm we felt lucky, but aren't sure if that's normal. The restaurant was empty so we sat near the window. It felt clean and friendly, with plants some decoration. There was a TV near the register showing the news. We ordered red curry, pad Thai, and a Myanmar coffee. We asked if we could get the tofu raw (not deep fried) and was told that even though they do make their own tofu, they make it fried, as it's egg tofu. Ok, we'll give it a go. I looked up to see what a Myanmar coffee was before ordering and what I read was they double-roast their beans, which are 80% of the mix. The rest is wheat, butter or margarine, and salt. I thought I'd give it a try for the experience. The food was good but not really anything amazing. The coffee was super sweet and had some kind of milk in it. It tasted like strange Vietnamese coffee. We asked if we could get it without the milk and sweetener and was told they could not do it, which makes me think it was a powdered drink with water. It's kind of what it tasted like. We were rather underwhelmed with the entire experience. It was good but nothing stood out, and we considered the coffee a fail.

We were craving Thai and decided to go here. They take reservations and it's a BYOB. We got the roti canai and steamed dumplings as appetizers. Both were delicious. Orders for main meals included pineapple fried rice with shrimp, green curry with chicken, pad Thai with beef and broccoli and chicken. Everything was delicious. We asked for the curry spicy and it was borderline too spicy! The pineapple fried rice needed more pineapple. Pad Thai was yummy. Super affordable and flavorful. Staff are super friendly. I highly recommend.

Golden Triangle is the ultimate source of delicious, authentic, lovingly prepared specialties! Beef Rendang was amazing and so tender! Nasi Lemak with chicjen so tender! Ayam Pandan wings were yummy! Peanut pancakes should be illegal... they are so good!!!

Great food recommended by my Burmese friend! she swears the food here is just like that of his childhood. I personally love the roti canai and the tea leaves salad. Ambience is comfy and cozy, and prices are reasonable if not more affordable than other places in the city. Also great for groups if you call ahead of time. Definitely a gem in Philly!

Went here with friends because we were feeling nostalgic for the days when they used to live in the area. Food we ordered: char kueh teow with shrimp, nasi lemak, penang tofu with chicken, and veggie fried rice for the table. I can only speak for the penang tofu and fried rice, love it. The tofu in the fried rice - flavorful, don't know what they do but when I cook tofu it tastes like a bland sponge. The tofu in the penang tofu - it was freaking juicy, I loved it. It was drenched, DRENCHED in red curry sauce. The chicken was tender and juicy. It is a mild spicy, had to put some chili oil on it because I like spicy. It came with a small bowl of rice. Very filling. My friends raved about their foods too. Nasi lemak is their go to order, so def recommend!l. We also ordered dessert! We got the pulut hitam (sweetened black rice with coconut milk?), and mango sticky rice. Would also recommend. To boot, the service was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy and homely. They had holiday decorations up, and paired with the southeast Asian art they had up, it felt like a tropical Christmas haha! :) Would come back again, and would recommend. Sorry we were hungry and I have no pics of food except this funny sign I saw when I went to the bathroom.

Ordered take out and very happy with the food! Good portions, reasonable price, everything tasted good, and order was ready for pickup at stated time. The photo is my plate at home since I did takeout lol. Favorites were the Thai chicken lettuce wraps and the black pepper beef. Would definitely order from here again.

They had this amazing Malaysian pulled milk tea called Teh Tarik and Kaya Toast. The Teg Tarik was sweet but not too sweet. It was interested how they stirred the tea similar to in India where they move it from one container to another in a juggling type fashion. The Kaya Toast was crispy and had this amazing coconut custard in the middle.

Kampar is close to home, so it's been on our list for a while, especially since our Malaysian cuisine experience is scant. We easily made reservations with friends for a Friday night. The reservation process is a little confusing since you can make res for downstairs or upstairs; the downstairs area features rotating chefs and their cuisines vs the upstairs area is true Kampar. We were happy to dine in the upstairs dining room, which had great ambience and vibes. It was dark and moody with simple candles and artwork around, plus a chill playlist. Our server was helpful in walking us through the menu and providing suggestions on number of dishes, etc. We started off with drinks. I love how their menu was separated into various types of drinks (light & bright, spirit forward, fun & fundamental, etc.), and I was blown away by all the unique pairings in each drink. It was a tough decision, but I opted for the Karbonat, which featured beet, sweet potato, and mandarin flavors - it was so fun and delicious! For round 2, I went for the coconut clarified whiskey tarik, loving the inclusion of banana leaf and Japanese vermouth. All my dining partners also really enjoyed their drinks, having a mixture of cocktails and wines / beers (something for everyone!). For eats, we debated just getting the Kenduri, where the chef simply cooks for you, vs ordering on our own. We ultimately decided to choose our own adventure, ordering the goat rendang, sayur goreng, ayam goreng berempah, and chili pan mee to split. We each got our own nasi lamak to soak up all the goodies. Every dish was beautifully crafted with quality ingredients and was so delicious. I lvoed the presentation of the nasi lamak, and my standout dishes were the rendang and ayam goreng berempah (a surprise hit). We all enjoyed each dish, and we were sufficiently full with this shared order (too stuffed for dessert, though). The price is reasonable - we spent less with our method of ordering than we would have with getting the tasting menu. The cocktails were a little on the pricier side, but given the uniqueness of the drinks, I get it. Kampar did not disappoint, and it was a great meal to share with friends. I was (and still am) shocked to hear about the devastating fire and prolonged impact, so I am keeping my eyes peeled to hear about their hopefully soon reopening!

The dining room is spacious, with +20 tables, and an open kitchen so you can watch the staff at work. Usually I call in takeout orders for pickup, but I have stayed for a meal (usually with friends). I was WOWED by the shrimp with lady fingers (okra), seamless service (reminiscent of a well-oiled machine), and an unexpectedly large interior. --- I dined as a party of two for lunch on Sunday. When we first entered, we were shocked at just how large the interior of Banana Leaf was as compared to the exterior. It is also decorated very fun inside. We ordered the mama's chicken, shrimp with lady fingers, and homemade roti canai. Just a note that the most updated menu is online instead of the photos here. (Also rice is not included with the entrées, but needs to be ordered separately.) (1) Shrimp with Lady Fingers- I would come back for just this again and again. It was not too salty, and it was very flavorful (just the right amount of fishy), and the okra was cooked just perfectly. I am a little bias as an okra fan, but I LOVED this dish. My only issue is that the shrimp wasn't deveined. (2) Homemade Roti Canai- The roti was very flaky and had an excellent texture. I guess it's no surprise that it's the biggest thing advertised on the menu. The curry was pretty standard that came with it. It was just a little strange to me that the roti canai was completely cold when it came out. (3) Mama's Chicken- The chicken was dry for us, probably as a result of the smaller pieces being fried. Overall, it was pretty OK, but we wouldn't order this again. The service was excellent- food was quick to come out & anytime we finished a dish, needed water, or needed the check, the servers were at the table before we had to say anything. Totally streamlined!
