    Beef Stir-Fry
    Diana C.

The veggie noodle soup with veggie mandu and tofu fresh rolls were good. I was very happy with the amount of tofu and ratio of tofu and mandu to vegetables. The soup broth was good on garlic but I did add some soy and sriracha to add a little more flavor depth. My partner got the beef stir fry which he said was eh. He felt the noodles were tasty but the beef and vegetables were not very flavorful and wouldn't order it again. The service was good overall and we had waters refilled frequently. You do go up to pay at the register and bus your table yourself though. Ambiance wise it was nice - I think they were going for classy with the decor and jazz music. I think their menu had a lot of veggie and even vegan options compared to most Korean spots so I appreciated that and would return to try more.

Honestly one of the best Korean places I've ever been too! My go to place for their ramen. Their kimchi is one of the best. Usually pretty empty. Their ramen is a chicken ramen with kimchi on the side I think? But all in all, really great place!

I think this is gem for takeout in the neighborhood. The gimmari appetizer was yummy. All the food is made fresh and hot when brought out. They do not serve any alcohol. The decor inside seems like it was borrowed from a different cafe. It was quiet and warm on a cold rainy night.

    some veggie noodle soup...

Take out review: Ordered some hot noodle soup and the dumplings for a quick lunch. It was not too bad but the noodle soup was quite subtle and flavorless. I guess if I was trying to cut on my sodium then I would appreciate it more haha. The dumplings weren't too bad actually. Not too special or anything but I guess I might come back for a quick lunch if I'm nearby again. Food: 5/10 Value: 4/10

Gimmari (Crispy seaweed rolls, 7pcs) (except they gave us 5 and told us the other 2 were coming)

This was my first time having Gimmari. It definitely wasn't bad, and the sauce was kinda spicy. The jajang was rice, and if you want noodles instead of rice you would have to pay extra for it. We chose the garlic pork option, which was really good but tasted more like beef than garlic pork (which I'm not complaining about). The jajang was too strong to taste the garlic, but the pork was super tender. The food wasn't bad, but it felt too average for its price.

    Cold Janchi Guksu

My boyfriend and I came to GoldinBlack in search of some easy Korean food, and we found some! I ordered the Janchi Guksu (cold noodles with many vegetables), and he ordered the Bibimbap. GoldinBlack, unlike many other restaurants, is REALLY healthy - I may be wrong but it seems like all the ingredients are organic. I love how the food made me feel, yet I wish that there was a bit more protein in the dishes. The Janchi Guksu was really great, I was looking for something similar to Naengmyeon, and the Guksu had a similar vinegar-y soup that I was craving on a hot day. I wish the items came with some banchan/side dishes, since that's a big staple at most Korean restaurants, but that was the only real con.

Hidden gem! Delicious. We ordered the Tteokbokki and bibimbap for a late lunch and really enjoyed the freshness of the meal. Filling and flavorful. Definitely recommend this place for lunch.

    8 Pieces Bulgogi Avocado Rolls

Came by this restaurant after a show over in Seattle Center. It had been on my list of places to try for a while as I had heard good things about it online. The restaurant itself is quite small with only a few tables and it wasn't too busy when my party arrived so we were able to get a table for 4 immediately. The restaurant seemed to be a bit understaffed that day as there was just one person taking orders and serving the tables and it seemed that they were a bit behind on some pick-up/mobile orders as there were customers waiting. As was to be expected given this early warning sign, our food was a bit slow out of the kitchen. The person serving the tables was very apologetic about the delay and kind about it. The menu mostly consisted of items that you would expect to see at a Korean restaurant (Sundubu/Kimchi Jjigae, Bibimbap, etc) with a few unexpected finds like the Kimchi Bulgogi Tacos. I ended up ordering the GoldinBlack Jajang since it had a star next to it on the menu so I figured it had to be good :). The other members of my group ordered the Bulgogi Avocado Rolls, Beef Stir-Fry with Rice, and the Bulgogi Kimchi Stew so I was also able to try these dishes. I really enjoyed the Jajang. It was a generous portion of rice accompanied with a black sauce with my chosen meat (chicken) and various vegetables and a poached egg on top. The black bean sauce was very rich and flavorful but maybe a little bit on the salty side. The chicken and veggies were well done though I wish the egg was a bit runnier. The avocado rolls were interesting as it felt a bit like a sushi roll in composition (but replacing meat for the fish). The avocado and the creamy sauces on top melted in the mouth and went really together well. But there there seemed to be something a bit off with the pairing of the flavors inside of the roll and the outside avocado and sauces. The beef stir-fry was my least favorite of the dishes that we tried. For one, the portion felt small relative to the Jajang that I ordered. Also, the stir-fry lacked the bold flavor that the Jajang had. The stir fry didn't have a sauce and didn't have a strong taste holding it together other than a mild soy aroma and it felt a bit like the type of fried rice you could at Uwajimaya food court for much cheaper. The final dish, the kimchi stew, was good but not amazing. The soup was piping hot and it lived up to its name with a lot of kimchi in it. The kimchi tasted fresh and was decently spicy. I would have liked to have a bit more meat in the soup as it felt like there were only a few pieces. Good - Kind and attentive staff - Jajang was very flavorful and filling Not So Good - Pretty expensive for the amount of food received for some dishes - Beef stir-fry lacked flavor - No side dishes unlike other Korean restaurants Overall I was a bit disappointed given my high expectations but it definitely could've been a case of catching the restaurant on a bad day. Hope to give it another try soon!

    Bulgogi Avocado Rolls with Chicken

I've always loved coming here to explore their menu and choosing a different entree each time. Over the past year and a half I've never been disappointed. Their dishes are always made with fresh ingredients and a generous portion of vegetables. Their menu is a nice balance of traditional and Korean fusion with my favorite examples of this being their sandwiches. Once in the GoldInBlack and the Volcano are my top favorites of this blend and are both topped with a generous portions of meat and veggies with cheese coating it all. The Gung-Jung TteokBokki is made with a warming garlic sauce that's perfect for a cold day or mild evening. Got the Beef Stir-Fry w/rice today along with the Bulgogi Avocado Rolls with chicken and I couldn't stop from eating the whole thing in one sitting. Now I'm full and lethargic but very happy.

    GoldinBlack Jajang with udon
    Jacqueline H.

I've been meaning to try GoldinBlack for awhile because I love Korean food and they are in such a convenient location. I stopped in recently and ordered their jayang (which comes with rice, not noodles, but you can substitute for an additional cost) and their rice punch. Both were delicious! They have 2 protein options for the jajang including chicken breast and bulgogi pork. I tried the chicken breast, which was great - it also comes with a ton of veggies, rolled egg omelet, and a panfried egg. It was pretty price though - my total was around $23-24 for the entree and drink. They do a 10% off all food special during lunch though, so I recommend trying to come then if anything!

    $3.50 for this!
    E N.

What a rip-off. No wonder it's 6pm and there are no customers in the restaurant. Paid $18 for a "signature" stir fried noodle dish that Uptown China can do better. Paid extra $3.50 for fish cake that was 2 measly balls, each cut in half. They're a "Korean" restaurant but they don't even have any rice cake on the menu. What a rip off.

Kimchi Jeon - Light and thin, crispy on the outside and full of Kimchi in the inside. One of the best I've had out of the PNW/Bay Area.
    Jane K.

Here's what to expect: A homey Korean Fusion restaurant that serves up the usual dishes like bibimbap and tteokbokki but also has more traditional items you won't see often like dubu kimchi and janchi guksu! Vegetables are always fresh (I'm picky about this), and the meat is of high quality. Also, pretty solid sandwiches - they're toasted and made with Macrina baguettes. GoldinBlack is great for if you wanna grab lunch and catch up with friends or try something new for dinner in a low key setting. Service/Atmosphere: I've ordered from here often and I've always had such kind service from the owner here. Sometimes they can get a bit busy and overwhelmed, but the food and presentation is perfect everytime. Before Covid times, dining in here can be a bit cramped. Definitely more of a neighborhood restaurant rather than a date night kind of place. Food: If you're looking for the traditional Korean experience with lots of banchan, this ain't it. Tonight I got the more traditional food - I ordered their Kimchi jeon (Kimchi pancake) and Kimchi and Spicy Pork Bulgogi Rice for pickup. The Kimchi jeon is one of the best I've had out of the Bay Area and Seattle! It's perfectly crunchy on the outside but soft and full of Kimchi & other assorted veggies in the inside. Thin and light. The spicy pork bulgogi (to be ordered with poach tofu and rice!) was filling and savory. The tofu is refreshing with the spiciness of the stir fried pork and kimchi. Other items I really like: - Janchi Guksu, served hot or cold. It's thin noodles in a light savory broth with veggies - I believe these are vegetarian. - Gungjung Tteokbokki - not spicy version of tteokbokki served with beef and veggies - it is a sweet soy sauce based dish with rice cake! - Mandu Guk! Dumplings in a light broth with green onions. Rice cakes are a must to add in. - any of the sandwiches! Really, you can't go wrong with 'em. Go nuts with the custom options too! Prices are a bit on the high side, but this is the city, and you will be full of good food. Drink some sikhye (Korean sweet rice drink) or sujeonghwa (sweet cinnamon punch) from the menu to digest!

I came with some friends on a rainy day. We were looking for something to warm us up. We ordered bibimbap, tteokguk, and dupbap! The food was so hot and spicy, it lit up our souls. We left nourished; body and soul. It was serendipitous. See you again soon

An absolute treat in all sense of the word!…read more We made reservations for an early dinner on Saturday, and glad we did because there was a never ending stream of people. By 6pm every seat was taken, including the bar. Highly recommend reservations. We had the cauliflower, squash blossom, squid ink fried rice, and the NY steak. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and had a really lovely smokey-ness to it. The sesame and almond puree and mint oil was divine. Honestly I could have made a whole meal of the cauliflower. The shrimp in the squash blossom was a delightful burst of flavor and texture. The sauces, while quite strong on their own, did not overpower the squash blossom, and each bite could have different flavors based on the sauce combinations. The squid ink fried rice had good textured rice AND the nori seasoning was perfect. I didn't get a lot of kimchi flavor, but it was truly a perfect fried rice- a little salty, you could tell it was fried but not greasy or oily, and a good complement to the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly. Each bite was so tender, and every part was the same level of done. A perfect medium rare. I don't know what they did to the brussel sprouts, but it was one of the best brussel sprout dishes I've ever had. There was a sauce with the steak (maybe dwenjang based?) that added such a nice deep salty and savory touch to the steak. We left feeling quite full, and about $200 poorer. Overall highly recommend. The staff was friendly and informative, interior was cozy and inviting, and the food was 10 out of 10.

There is an open kitchen with, you guessed it, an open fire that is burning almond wood under the range. It is tantalizing. Before even tasting, my other senses are nourished. There are a few high top bar like seats scattered with smaller 2 and 4 tops. The restaurant is on the corner but doesn't feel too bright or too dark. Service: Elevated. Passionate. But not in a "trying too hard" way. They all seemed to care deeply about every beat. Recommendations felt curated and everyone had a calmness to them that was very refreshing. Food: Un. Real. Squash Blossoms - beautiful plating, better flavor. They were crunchy on the outside with a burst of perfectly cooked shrimp inside. The sauces complimented perfectly. Octopus - perfectly cooked. Perfectly. The presentation didn't even do the flavor justice. One tentacle but savored each bite. Ink fried rice - I've never had ink rice before but let me tell you each bite was a delicious textural experience. The portion was quite decent too. Truffle mushrooms - as a non-mushroom lover, I was sold on these because it's (5) types of mushrooms pan fried and topped with parm. Lost my mind. The mushrooms were so substantial and reminded me more of meat than of dirt. We would come back simply for this dish. Ribeye - the "crescendo" as our waiter put it. And he was right. We watched the chef cook this steak perfectly on the open fire in front of us. The level of care and passion left us tantalized. The calmness and cleanliness of the prep area. It was truly dinner and a relaxing show. I could not get over how the smoke that greeted us gently wove its way into each slice of mid rare ribeye. The dish is served with banchan of Kimchee, salad, Brussels, and broccoli so balanced and flavorful. I think I finally understand umami? Big day! Dessert - not photographed Lychee sorbet had me dreaming of the martini without missing the alcohol. Barley gelato - the flavor starts off with a strong coffee and transforms into an earthier and heartier barley that I've never had before in my life! The shaved ice - mind blown? One bite through to the bottom cream and then it was gone in my mouth. I'd like to refer to this as the magicians assistant because it's in front of you and then it's gone. Totally Cinnamon Toast Crunch but magical? We can't wait to come back. Huge thanks to Bill for making the experience so fantastic.

This time, I checked out Chan Seattle, and baby, they left NOTHING on the table. I enjoyed my entire experience from start to finish. When I arrived, there was a sign asking guests to wait for the hostess to be seated. I stood there for about 2-3 minutes, but no one ever came to the hostess stand, so eventually I just seated myself at the bar. ‍ Not a huge deal, but definitely worth noting. Chan is located inside a hotel, and the restaurant itself is pretty spacious. The actual bar only seats about three people, but there's also open-kitchen counter seating with maybe 8-10 seats. I grabbed a seat at the bar with my book, although I mainly ended up listening to a podcast while I ate. Perfect little solo dinner vibe. One thing that made me laugh: the restroom is part of the hotel, so Chan staff actually have to give you a key to access it. Top-flight security over there! Now, THE FOOD. I started with a glass of cava from the happy hour menu and the tuna tartare, topped with avocado, radish, and sunchoke. Both were $10 each. For my meal, I ordered the roasted cauliflower from the happy hour menu for $10 and the small portion of Alaskan black cod from the protein menu. Everything was absolutely delicious, but that tuna tartare?! That was the star of the evening. Fresh, flavorful, and easily the dish I'd order again without even looking at the menu. The service was wonderful too. The bartender seemed a little stiff and rigid when I first sat down, but he eventually warmed up and I got to see his kind and friendly side. He was attentive and offered recommendations, which I always appreciate when I'm trying somewhere for the first time. The regular menu prices are definitely on the higher side, but Chan has $$$ on Yelp, so you know what you're signing up for. That said, the happy hour specials are GREAT and make it easy to try several dishes without running the bill all the way up. Between the food, service, atmosphere, and happy hour, Chan Seattle is absolutely a must-try. I'll definitely be back on a future Seattle visit, and the tuna tartare already has a spot on my repeat-order list!

I think that is the point of this dish, so if you want a more traditional spicy flavor then get the other ttoekbokki option (spicy rice cakes). Firstly, this came with ground beef rather than the beef slices I was expecting. The rice at the bottom was dry like it should be in a clay pot, but lacking really any of that slightly-burnt, hard qualities that makes a clay pot rice what it is. It just tasted dry. But the ground beef was probably the worst part. It was dry, lacking in really any seasoning, and the portion was tiny. I'd finished the beef with still half the bowl remaining. This was not a bibimbap I would come back to at all. Overall, there are way too many better places in the international district for me to ever recommend this. 5/10

This place doesn't have potato salad--that would be too pedestrian. Instead, you get pickled perilla leaves, pickled okra, pickled eggplant, pickled dried radish, and more. Also, my wife is vegan, and they had an entire vegan menu available, all ready to go. We used to live up in Shoreline and loved this place years ago. We were back in the neighborhood and decided to pop in on a whim. It is all spiffy and new and under new management. The owner and head chef was there, and she is a delightful lady. The service is top-notch, as her daughter was working there. The staff was very attentive. It feels less like eating at a restaurant and more like eating at your favorite Korean friend's mom's home after being spontaneously invited for dinner. The restaurant is meticulously clean and elegant, which makes you just want to eat. In fact, the food was so wonderful that I hardly spoke a word between moaning and eating. To cap off our meal, they provided this delicious cinnamon ginger drink to help settle our very full tummies. I wished the owner would come running out with packed banchan for me to take home, just to make sure I was eating well at home -- just like in those K-dramas. To sum this all up, this is food heaven. 감사합니다 to the Hae Nam and we cannot wait to come back and try more!
