As long as your expectations are realistic, Gondolier never disappoints. We know our family of three can sit down for pizza and be out the door within 45 minutes for less than $15. I've ordered out from this Gondlier for years. Our standard order is pizza for me and sandwich for my wife and they have always given us breadsticks with the order at no cost. I had the displeasure of talking to Carson this time. He told me "if you want breadsticks, you'll have to pay for them" after arguing with me, he hung up on me. Family restaurant we visit 2x month.Table for 4 in what we thought was a quiet section. 2 Veal Parma, 1 pizza, 1 chicken scarpariello, salads and drinks. Food was good hot and plentiful, waiter professional and attentive. What RUINED this visit was the party of 20 with approx 10 SCREAMING kids (2 tables with no parental supervision) and an even LOUDER waiter screaming the entrees from 1/2 way across the full restaurant and next to our table..and that"s after we politely asked our waiter to ask him to moderate his volume. I should have known when I saw hot wings on the menu, that maybe this would not be the best Italian ever. Suffice it to say I left annoyed with a box full of food (I hate wasting at restaurants). Ordered tilapia piccata, it arrived with canned mushrooms on it despite the menu not stating mushrooms even came on it... who wants mushrooms from a can? Gross! Not on the ball today. They were busy and of course understaffed. However, we were seated before a large party (we only had 6) they had 12. They received their food before us. Waiters and waitresses eating in the dining room while patrons waited for food. Waitress didn't once check on us. When food did arrive, some dishes were hot, others lukewarm. But by the time we got our food, we were too hungry to complain. This restaurant is usually one of our favorites, so I am surprised and sorry that we had such a bad experience this time. read more

Shady, won't be going back. Purchased a coupon from Half Off Depot and made the trip to west Knoxville to visit this location. I had been there many times previously years ago when I lived in that area and always had fond memories of the restaurant. When we arrived we told the staff we had the Half Off coupon, they said they would verify it. A manager came back and told us that the coupon was already used (it wasn't) and that he would take the receipt form, photocopy and file it, so that we couldn't continue scamming them. It was very embarrassing. I have never before been accused of stealing and was rather angry at the accusation. We left and had a lovely dinner at Calhoun's on Bearden Hill. read more

I've always liked gondolier. They've been around for over 20 years, and their prices have always been great, and the food more than adequate in quality and quantity. They have veal and eggplant parmesan, that comes with an entree sized portion of spaghetti. If You were to have a Urge for a heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs, you'd be better served by going here than olive garden. The foods just as good and much less expensive. read more

I think this location/restaurant has widely gone under the radar for some time. Being a little further from downtown than many places, it's still worth a couple minutes more drive for very reasonably priced, good Italian. You won't find the "authentic Italian" bologna Alfredo as you well at that nasty "Italian" chain, but you will find great Calzones, pastas, pizza and sandwiches. The menu was diverse and I was excited to try it out. To begin, the person who took our order was not very knowledgeable about the menu and sounded very impatient. I got the Tortellini Marinara and added mushrooms. The mushrooms are obviously from a can and I've had better tortellini from the frozen section of Kroger. We ordered mozzarella sticks and got their "killer sticks" instead, which are just their terrible bread sticks with a layer of cheese on them. We didn't even attempt to correct this mistake because I wasn't very hopeful for the quality of the mozzarella sticks after the disappointment of the other food. My fiance got the calzone, which was suprisingly huge. Unfortunately, it was greasy and there was about 90% cheese, 5% dough, and 5% off brand Italian sausage. Honestly worst money I've spent on food in Knoxville. I'd recommend Fazoli's, Olive Garden, or Chef Boy Ardee spaghetti O's before I recommend this place. read more

Food was really good. Chose carry out as it was the first time to ever try it. They really should have the people eating in pay their bill through the wait staff. It gets really congested at the front with people coming in to wait for a table, people picking up an order and people trying to pay their bill to leave. This place just isn't as good as it was a few months ago. They purged the old staff and it hasn't been the same since. I ordered sweet tea with no lemon, and they brought me a sweet tea with lemon. Honest mistake, right? I ordered my personal favorite pizza, the Fra Diavolo (Italian sausage and jalapeños) with light sauce. It came with as much sauce as any other pie. The server explained, "it really depends on who is working back there. Sometimes they can't read it correctly...", and apologized, and asked me to let them know if it wasn't okay. Well, it was okay, I guess. They seem to be using a different Italian sausage now, though, and that's not okay. This was my second visit since "The purge", and I am far from impressed. "Disappointed" is more of the word I'm looking for, I believe. I won't eat at this location again unless they bring back the old staff. The service is minimal, and the food isn't what it once was. As a big fan of Carrabas and Macaroni Grill this place does not come close to measuring up. That being said, the portions are huge and you won't leave hungry. I had the tour of italy which had: Spaghetti (not too bad but a bit oily), lasanga (again not bad but very boxed tasting), manacotti (good, cheesy and very rich), and chicken parmesean (tasty, juicy, and cheesy). Tour of italy is about $13. It comes with a salad and free breadsticks and is a ton of food. I shared it with a little one and still had some left over......and I can eat! We also had some desert (the cake case is in the front as you walk in to entice you). The cakes look great but they don't live up to the look or the $6 price tag. You get a large piece but the cake was a bit dry and they just heap on thick layers of supermarket frosting between layers and on top. All in all an average place. I'd rate it a step above Fazolis but a step below Olive Garden. read more

The breadsticks need garlic or something because they just taste like cardboard. That being said, the service was great, our server was pleasant, and the desserts all look very impressive. This restaurant is always Great. The food and the service, even on a very busy Friday night is fantastic. Darrell and Frankie are some of the best servers in knoxville. My wife and I always get the Chicken Slovakia. We've eaten their pizza and it also is very good. We also like to munch on the breadsticks they bring to the table as we wait for our main food. However the main reason we come here is the desserts, great selection and great for sharing since they are huge slices. We've been to other gondoliers in the area, some have closed (ie Oak Ridge) and this one at cedar bluff is always the best. It is always worth our drive. read more

I ordered pick up from the Knoxville Location. Online I viewed the menu which stated for Knoxville location. Once I get my food and leave I realize my house salad, which the menu states comes with peppercinis, has none. The Service is TERRIBLE. Our waitress came to the table to take the order - serve the food - one refill and the check. We would still be waiting for extra napkins - which were never brought. The management also allows the staff to stand around together talking, laughing and whispering - I was with a handicapped person and we had several of the servers whispering and looking at our table. It could have been directed at anyone of us but I caught the stare several times. RIDICULOUS! It made everyone uncomfortable and we will NEVER give them ANY business.
