So I've been a resident of Vallejo for a few years now and have rarely strayed from my usual haunts. For some reason we didn't feel like going to our normal breakfast spot since I felt it was a little late for breakfast type food. Long story short the Chinese place next door doesn't do lunch combos on weekends so we ended up here. Great choice!! Pros: Great flavorful food, the country potatoes where seasoned perfectly and my omelette was on point. Even the biscuit was delicious. My wife's waffle was also very good. Cons: Coffee wasn't my style, I prefer scottys coffee. Not saying it was bad it just wasn't my thing. Also the price for a cup of coffee albeit with refills was a little expensive. It made our meal over $30 which is a little high for breakfast but whatever. We will be coming back and I can't wait to try the other stuff on the menu. read more

I knocked one start out not because their food but because we had to wait almost 40 minutes for our meal. The food is very very good once we got seated our waiter took our ordered and from there on it was a wait. The table next to us left because they didnt want to wait any longer. Once our food came to our table it was hot and deliciius i ordered the pork chops with fried rice and 2 eggs yummy. All American breakfast. Full of locals. I usually get the Good Day omelette. The food is good, but it is a hit or miss. For example their country potatoes and coffee can be really good or you can luck out and get super burned potatoes or the end of mug rancid coffee taste. Sometimes service is slow and it will take a while to get your table/food/check or like the last time I was there, they never brought the toast and biscuits that came w/our orders. I've gone maybe a total of 20 times in the last 3 years and the servers are really nice. A bit pricier than corporate diners like ihop/black bear but you support local small businesses and their growth. Their menu has some unique plates for folks who can eat a lot and love super heavy breakfasts. Try them out! I still like taking folks who visit me in Vallejo and they all love it more than I do. read more

I love a good breakfast cafe any time of day! Good day cafe came through with crispy hashbrowns and perfectly cooked poached eggs. Their salsa also added a nice kick to the morning (upon request). The check in offer of 10% off was helpful for my party of 6! The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and prompt with their service. My husband ordered the French toast. PROS: Scrambled eggs were cooked right, not over done. Hashbrowns were very crispy and tasty. Bacon cooked well. Coffee was decent. CONS: Hashbrown portion was small. Bacon was cold. Biscuit was SMALL! Smaller than the palm of my hand. What a joke. French toast = flat and tasteless. Waste of money. Will not dine here again. It was not as busy today, but no hostess or waitresses were near the front of the restaurant. We stood and watched a young lady clear tables but she never said anything to us or alerted any other staff. Finally a girl comes from the back and asked if we were waiting to be seated.... (Duh!). Once seated and no one came to our table for 15 minutes. We were just getting ready to leave and another party of 2 were seated behind us and immediately given coffee. So my family and I came here to eat before my brother and sister-in-law's flight. We were supposed to be enjoying our last day together but nope, our day was ruined. The moment we came in, the host did not welcome us. Then she told us that we'll have to wait 20 minutes since we had a party of 5 ppl. So we patiently waited but noticed that 20 ppl in parties of 2-4 that came after us, were being seated already. And when I asked for a menu while waiting the hostess was not friendly at all. When my dad asked when we were going to be seated again she said it was another 40 minute wait. They could have clearly added a chair to a table of 4 or put 2 tables together to seat us before all the ppl after us but they didn't so we just left. This Good Day Cafe should be called Bad Day Cafe. Overall, this place ruined our family time and if I could, this place would get a 0 star for service. read more

Wow - the best breakfast I've had in a long time. I just moved to Vallejo (having lived most recently in Oakland and San Francisco for 2 and 9 years, respectively) and am totally falling for my new city. My man and I had a late Sunday breakfast (they serve breakfast until 3:00). I am a sucker for corned beef hash, and I swear this is the best I've ever had, hands down. They mix chopped green pepper, onion, and some other tasty ingredients in with the corned beef. Nicely seasoned too! The eggs and hash browns that came on the side were perfect - those hash browns had a flavorful crispiness and my eggs were nice and fluffy. The biscuits were homemade and came with honey butter. They have great coffee, too! Our server, Rose, was so sweet. Her service was professional and efficient. Our hostess was very nice when we came in, and another member of their serving staff thanked us on our way out. The ambiance at Good Day Cafe is nice and casual. Good Day Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast joints in Vallejo. It's one of the few reasons I'm glad I've moved back. I love their new location and that it forces me to patronize our downtown area. It's a place full of joy and happiness - for real, they have mugs that even shout it out loud! The service is awesome- I might go as far as to say that I actually think their service might be BETTER than the food-and a reason in itself to visit repeated times. The food is delicious (don't get me wrong). I can only speak on their breakfast offerings. The country fried steak, the REAL corned beef hash, the pancakes, the serena (real crab omelette), the country breakfast of biscuits and gravy and all the usual breakfast offerings are all done really well. Wow, just wow! My first visit and was blown away by the food, customer service and setting (nice and clean). As for customer service, waiter was efficient and kept us updated on our food status. In addition, the manager constantly walked around to check on everyone in the restaurant and even came by our table several times to check on us and made sure everything was well. I am a very satisfied customer :) I still have yet to try more of the items on the breakfast menu as well as the lunch menu. Hostess and staff deserve better than 2 stars. They were welcoming and sweet and they made us feel good from the first minute. Unfortunately they were the highlight for us. The place was dirty. The floor was inexcusably dirty. Not the kind of dirty that happens from a really busy morning, but the kind of dirty that happens when your carpet is 20 years old and you don't own a steam cleaner. (For that matter, they may not know steam cleaners exist.) This almost made me leave but I wanted to look past this to support a local business. My wife ordered the Tuna Melt. It was OK, but not special at all. When you pay for tuna with melted cheese it should be better than what you can easily do at home. It wasn't. I ordered the Princess Afrika salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was moist, properly cooked and still warm. I was happy with that. The greens were fresh and crispy. Oddly, the cheese used for the salad was just deli sliced cheese stacked and diced into very small pieces. This combined with the large amount of sliced olives and the whole onion ringlets made this salad worth skipping. The young couple sitting next to us ordered breakfast and their plates looked really good. I wish I'd ordered breakfast. My suggestion is that Monday would be a Good Day for new carpet and a heavy cleaning. read more

This is some really good food and a great atmosphere. I visited my friend in Vallejo and we came here for a brunch. We both ordered omelets - the Jessica and the Popeye. Both were really delicious and fresh. The ingredients were plentiful and te hot sauce on the side was awesome! This is one of the best diners I've been to. The only reason it's a 4 and not 5 star is that the hash browns and even the veggies could have been seasoned a little more. Some black pepper or garlic salt would have been great with the hash browns. We would definitely go here again! Even better- on Saturday mornings there is a farmer's market right outside! read more

What a great find. The decor and atmosphere aren't anything to write home about but for a homey, old fashioned type of place, they have a great menu, good food and I was pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian options. There were enough things on the menu for me (lifetime veggie) that I could go back more than one time and get something different; a real treat. Lots of places have one measley vegetarian offering, especially places I would put in the same category as Good Day Cafe. Besides that, the food was really good, reasonably priced and the service was great. And they are downtown, something I really appreciate and want to support. Our downtown needs places like this. The Good Day Cafe is back!!! My family and I do a trip to the wine country just about 2 to 3 times a year. Stopping at Good Day Cafe for a scrumptious meal on the way there and back is part of our trip and we look forward to that as much as our trip! The past few times we were at Good Day Cafe, we were disappointed to find the genuinely positive and upbeat owner Cindy was not there. We could definitely feel a change in the restaurant, although we still felt it was a fabulous place to be! On one of our visits, we were told that Cindy had taken a leave to dedicate all of her time to her husband battling stage 4 cancer. Unfortunately Cindy's husband lost his battle but this confirmed that she made the right decision to be home with him and sacrifice her restaurant for a time. Our most recent visit was just the way it used to be, Cindy was right there to welcome us with her beautiful smile and wonderfully upbeat disposition! Stopped by to grab breakfast, to go around 830am yesterday, and it was my first time. I enjoyed it very much, I ordered the sausage (4 links) and egg breakfast plate, it came with hash browns and toast. I added a large orange juice and it came to about $15 and change. Nice portions and kept me full until my lunch at 1pm. It's also near my office so I can grab breakfast a few times a week which is really great. I would recommend Good Day Cafe. Next time I want to try their hot chocolate because as I was waiting for my order I saw them serve a nice cup of hot Chocolate with a mountain of whip cream and sprinkles! read more
