I am two years late writing this, but felt I had to go back and give the restaurant its well earned 5 stars. My wife and I held our wedding reception here in October 2016 for a party of approximately 30. The food was beyond incredible and the stuffed pork tenderloin is still fondly mentioned by our family and friends. The restaurant was beautiful, the food was delicious and Meghan was a wonder to work with. We came all the way from Ohio, made all the arrangements through phone and email. Nice atmopshere. Meals are basically shareable tappas with unique twists and a seasonally changing menu. Great place for cocktails but meals and drinks are pricey here and the bar is over crowded. Check the menu before going to make sure there are options you like. And remember you need to order a few things...one item per person isn't going to cut it. I haven't been impressed with the menu for a while. The menu has become filled with "unique" dishes. There are very few traditional dishes left to order. Throwing a few unique things into the mix makes things interesting but when everything you can order has a strange twist or something you don't know if you will like, it turns a fun dinner into a guessing game. Again, if you aren't trying the goat cheese mousse you ain't ordering properly! Oxtail Tripe - Wow, what a blend of flavors. That gelatin yo. This is delicious, and I highly recommend it! White Pizza - Thick crust pizza topped with cheese, thin slices of potatoes, rappini, and cheese. Pretty good, but not my favorite. Duck toast - this place makes excellent duck! not as good as the other duck dish that got taken off their menu, but would definitely order this again. The small pieces of "toast" were a bit too oily though. Pot Roast - this was one of the specials that day. The potatoes were a bit undercooked. Pretty standard, nothing special. Not a large amount of pot roast either, so this traditionally hearty dish was not particularly hearty. Try the corpse reviver! read more

Maybe its just me, but after hearing a few people rave about this place, I didn't find anything special about it. Maybe they over hyped it and it set my standards too high? But I tried several appetizers and had their "renowned" burger and nothing truly satisfied me. Nothing there is bad, its a beautiful restaurant with friendly staff, but to me, its pretty expensive for an experience that doesn't meet expectation. I would highly recommend making reservations because they are usually packed, the prices are a bit expensive but totally worth it especially if you're sharing and the portions allow you to share. Decided to come here for my birthday dinner. Had to wait 15 min before being seated on a reservation which isn't bad considering how crowded it was. I will say they are great at flipping tables fast. Our server was genuinely nice and knowledgeable. Had to try the burger of course. We also tried the fried chicken with sauteed kale and creamy grits. For dessert had the citrus ricotta cake with blood orange drizzle and pistachio crumble. Burger platter- the burger was juicey and seasoned well. So were the fries. Really enjoyed the coleslaw. I found everything to be a bit on the salty side. To be fair I don't eat a lot of salt so a lot of times restaurant food taste salty to me. Fried Chicken- First let me say the grits were amazing!! Kale was good. Tad salty. I liked the drizzle on chicken but I found the chicken to be a little pink as you got closer to the bone and was a little greasy. Citrus orange cake- Very light and airy. First, I have to say we are BIG fans of Good Luck. So big that we take all first time visitors because we believe it's an amazing representation of the best Rochester has to offer. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a huge letdown from a service and hospitality perspective. On the evening we visited there was clearly a disregard for COVID protocols. Yes, there were a few tables missing and staff wore masks, but it truly seemed the restaurant was approaching max capacity and tables were not spaced 6 feet apart. Once seated we waited for over 15 minutes and no one even brought us water. Being uncomfortable with the lack of COVID protocols in place, combined with service that didn't come close to what we are accustomed to from Good Luck, we decided to get up and leave. As we stood up the waitress rushed over and said she would get the manager. The manager was apologetic; however, her response was quite appalling. She said there was unprecedented demand at the restaurant and they were doing their best to accommodate everyone. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is the restaurant's responsibility to limit reservations and walk-ins, and enforce responsible policies to maintain safe occupancy levels for staff and guests. From our perspective the only thing Good Luck reduced at the restaurant was the amount of staff and their caring customer-centric hospitality standards. A big disappointment from one of the best. read more

I grew up in Rochester but live in the NYC area and yes I can be a food snob compared to what's offered in the area. I've been underwhelmed with what locals call "the best restaurants" in Rochester. I do admit that the food scene has vastly improved since I lived there. This is the second time I was actually impressed. Now it's one of my top three favorite places in Rochester. It has the rustic vibe of the "Brooklyn" that's trendy everywhere now, complete with tattoo-clad waitstaff. However, I think it's done tastefully. I enjoyed the ambiance. It's for a younger crowd though. We were there early on a Friday so it got very loud and very busy towards the end of our dinner. The service kind of tapered down after we got our food. I'll blame the crowd and not our waitress. I ordered the beet salad app (I think) and we all devoured it - very fresh & delicious. Perfectly seasoned & dressed. Not too heavy, not too sweet. My entree was delicious but half of my pasta was about 1-2 minutes under cooked (I prefer my pasta to be al dente but I was definitely eating some undercooked pasta bites). I was too hungry to send it back. The flavors were spot on delicious. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food-oxtail & something else I can't remember. My favorite was the dessert. The banana cream pie dessert was THE. BEST. DESSERT. Someone ordered vanilla ice cream and it was on the gummy side. The chocolate cake ice cream tasted exactly like chocolate ice cream. Fun concept not really translated. I definitely recommend a visit. I definitely will come back if I can get a reservation during my future trips. Although we've been with groups, I really enjoyed the sharing plates with just the two of us. The portion size seems to be great for couples, maybe with the exception of the gargantuan burger which could feed a small army. My wife started off with a standard Manhattan and for me I satisfied my rum liking with a Knock on Wood which was a good tropical drink on a cold autumn night. We then shared a cheese board, the beet salad, and the short ribs, each one being delicious and still left room to share a strudel for desert. Our server Sarah allowed us to have a leisurely before-theater meal, and still make it down the street with time to spare. The team approach may have faltered only once when our rib dish failed to appear, but was quickly corrected. Return visits are a must. read more

I will never understand how this is the best-rated restaurant in Rochester. After eating here multiple times, I can say with confidence that the cocktails are good, the service is average, the food is sub-par, and the prices are on the high end for Rochester. I've been underwhelmed with my meals here before, but this last time was terrible. We ordered 4 different things to share (including the famous burger) - all were bad. These dishes weren't just not good. They were bad. So bad that we only finished the burger and didn't take the leftovers from the other dishes home (first time I have let a waiter discard my leftovers instead of taking them home). I usually refrain from leaving negative reviews, but it's a shame that this place is rated above so many better restaurants. If you want good food, look elsewhere. read more

Great find while in Rochester we showed up with out reservations with a pretty large group including kids the hostess had us seating with in 5 minutes from the outside this place looks like an industrial building once you step inside you get this warm welcoming feeling the wood and exposes brick inside is beautiful now to the food omg from start to finish we enjoyed everything their steak is softer then butter which their fried chicken is crunchy and moist their bbq platter is amazing the start of that plate was the smoked duck breast which was juicy and crispy and had the right amount of smoke everyone loved it including my son who was surprised that was duck they also have a 1lb burger which comes with these deliciously addicting French fries we ended up ordering more of no matter what you get I can't see how you can go wrong I only wish we could have gone back the next day did I mention they have a Moscow mule drink on tap so refreshing read more

I will admit, I really wasn't expecting to like Good Luck let alone Love it as much as I did. I felt like the whole plate sharing thing might be a little cliché, but really it was a great dining experience. 1st the sign on the outside of the building is super tiny, so you have to really pay attention to find the place. Once inside the ambiance is kind of hipster loft, but it fit the situation perfectly. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and suggested we try the heirloom tomato (which she grew herself) plate with herb whipped mascarpone and a vinaigrette and I'm glad she did because it was delicious! The tomatoes were visibly ripe and the tart citrus of the vinaigrette matched perfectly with the herby cheese. For 2 people it was a great starter, but we also decided to try the duck charcuterie. I'm not a big fan of duck because it always seems greasy to me regardless of how well it is prepared, this was no different. A little smoky which I liked, but still way too greasy to be enjoyable for me. Next we ordered the goat cheese gnocchi which was possibly one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. They were expertly prepared, light and fluffy and melted in my mouth like a perfect gnocchi should. We decided on the fried chicken with watermelon salad (the salad was nice and refreshing) next, which was probably my least favorite dish of the night. It just seemed very plain and not particularly interesting to me. Overall I enjoyed my dining experience and next time I plan to try one of their cocktails. read more

I'm really shocked that I never reviewed this restaurant, considering I ate here in 2017! I came here with my fiance's family and their family friend. The style here is sharing. If you don't share food then don't bother coming here. The plate sizes are meant for four or more people. We ordered their burger, which when you cut it into four slices, looks more like four normal size burgers. It was an amazing burger too! We also tried their grilled octopus. I surprised myself because I loved it; flavorful and tender. It wasn't fishy or weird at all. We also got some veggies to share and I don't remember being disappointed once. Good luck is a family style restaurant. We had 6 people and we ordered 2 meat dishes (ribs and the steak) and then 2 orders of red lentils, the daily special of vegetarian ravioli, lasagna, and the muffuletta. The steak and red lentils are to die for. You have to order these. The steak is really tender and spiced well, and the lentils has a slight curry taste but it's sooo good. The ravioli and muffuletta were pretty good, but I would ditch the lasagna. We also has a variety of drinks and they were very tasty. I suppose I'm the outcast here. Have been several times. Trendy atmosphere mixed with atrocious parking, an exceptionally loud inside, understaffed bar, and a wait list that sometimes seems to be dependent on who you're with. I won't dispute the burger, or the fries, or the burger sauce. Or the drink menu. If they only sold these items, I'm sure it'd still be packed. However, the last few times we're been, I haven't been overly wowed by the entrees or sides. Maybe it's just the current menu? While I can largely appreciate ingenuity in a restaurant setting, it seems to be a bit of a stretch to employ the most random/exotic ingredients to create an entree. I'm pretty open to new flavor combinations, but some of the menu items are just plain weird (to me). Do they offer take out? Good Luck does not screw around. The kitchen puts out great food: unpretentious, not ostentatious, always of high-quality ingredients and technique. Presentation is austere and functional, as it should be. Try the lentils. The bar is an honest-to-god American bar of the kind I've been scouring Brooklyn for--you'd think they'd be on top of this--but have never seen anywhere else. Signature drinks are all good but I only order the classics. If I could rent a room here, I would. The price list looks intimidating until you realize that the food menu is meant to be shared and the cocktail menu is not for overindulgence. I brought a group of twelve here for my birthday and we racked up the heaviest tab I've ever seen. Chuck, the owner, and I are chips off the same design-school block, and he's done an awesome job on the space and lighting.
