I love the environment of Good Luck Restaurant. When I am there, I really feel like I am away from Rochester and in a larger scale city. Good Luck is bustling, offers a decent food menu, their cocktail menu is unique and their wine offerings are also very impressive. They are lacking a bit in the beer section, only offering a few. I think that Good Luck is the perfect place to meet up for a drink after work and simply linger. I wouldn't go there for a dinner or something, because the menu is a little too expensive and limited for my taste. If you're trying to impress someone, I'd definitely take them here. The atmosphere is conducive of an intimate and romantic energy, and it will be sure to compliment an evening with friends, co-workers or a loved one. If Good Luck loses its charming ambiance, it would definitely lose a few of it's stars as well. While this restaurant offers a vibe that is hard to find in other Rochester hangouts (Tapas 177 matches it), I think that it is also a little to expensive for its own good...Also, the crowd can be unbearably yuppie. read more

Beautiful restaurant in arts district of Rochester. We were back in town for my Fiancé's homecoming weekend at RIT. We had a late reservation which worked out great for us and it was still buzzing and fun! The menu is very fun and meant to be shared amongst the table. Great old fashioneds and bourbon selection. Great vibe! We had fabulous Brielle as our server and couldn't have asked for better- she treated us so well. The ribeye was fantastic as was the cacio e Pepe spaghetti squash dish. We made our way to Good Luck around 9pm on a Saturday, having just experienced a complete debacle at another restaurant. We were starving! The place was crowded so we gave our name to the hostess. The hostess was friendly and attentive making sure we were informed about our options. We then made our way to the bar to wait. One of the bartenders remembered us from a previous visit and started whipping up our drinks, remembering that we liked variations on the Old Fashioned. Shout out to Nate! We were seated in about 15 minutes where we were in good hands with our server, Kevin. Nate the bartender delivered specially mixed old fashioneds to our table himself....all handshakes and smiles. Kevin made sure we had everything we needed and were happy with what we had....even having the kitchen make up a special beet salad when we inquired about it since it was no longer on the menu. We had a mixed bag of food: burger, pastrami special, white pizza, and the beet salad. No complaints, everything was great. Their burger is to die for! We also ordered dessert. The chocolate cake a la mode is the best. We also tried the peaches and cream but the peaches were not ripe. With apologies Kevin removed this from our bill. I've eaten here several times and its consistently satisfying; easily my "go-to" place for a dinner out. The cocktails are great. I always loved the Rexton Rawlston. Last night I had the For the Fairest and it was so good - gorgeous color, refreshing and earthy. My husband who claims he doesn't like booze or beets loved it, too! We shared the Braised Oxtail with tripe. Who knew I'd like tripe? It was rich and flavorful, as good as any dish in a traditional American-italian restaurant. I also had the Chestnut Calamarata: perfect, toothsome pasta, and yummy for lunch the next day. The fried chicken is always good, if perhaps a bit too salty. Desserts are decent too, although the chocolate peanut butter ice cream we tried last night was basicly a scoop of straight-up peanut butter. I'd give 5 stars if they had better bread (it's a bit dry) and warmer service. Overall however I love this place and am glad they're a Rochester staple that continues to deliver delicious food and drink. read more

I'd heard good things about Good Luck, but I didn't believe the hype until today. It almost makes me angry how good the food is here. (Almost. I'm far too full to have any room for anger... We were in town for one night. Saturday. Our friends who were hosting us insisted we try Good Luck and, boy, am I glad we did. Reservations are a must because this place is popular, and with good right! Our friends had been talking all day about the burger here, more on that below. We arrived a little early and had to wait for our table since it hadn't opened up yet which was fine since we could hang by the bar and grab a drink. We were seated at our table and greeted by our waitress who was well spoken, friendly and all around lovely. Service was a bit slow, likely from a busy kitchen but in good company we didn't mind too much. It's best to make sure you're not in a rush if coming here on a weekend evening. We ordered a salad, the burger, and a pizza to be split between four adults. This ended up being a ton of food. The small portion salad was plenty. Very tasty and fresh. The pizza was excellent. And finally, the BURGER. so damn good. I was worried that a burger prepared on this large scale would turn out dry and overcooked but it was cooked to perfection and so flavorful. We have dined at Good Luck a few times during my son's four years at the University of Rochester. The last time -- this weekend, to celebrate his and some friends' graduation -- was just was amazing as each other time we have been there. There were nine of us, so we ordered many of the items on the menu (and several rounds of cocktails). The desserts were slightly disappointing (although the orange pretzel caramel ice cream was a pleasant surprise), but that's a mild gripe. I can't say enough about the atmosphere, service, presentation, deliciousness of the food or any other aspect of the restaurant. It is one of our absolutely favorite restaurants we have been to. I wanted to love Good Luck so badly. I had looked at the menu numerous times over the last year and finally had a chance to go now that we moved to the area. It was honestly a let down. We weren't sat for over a half hour after our reservation. If our server wasn't obviously pregnant I would have assumed she was high....she was so lethargic and seemed out of it. She notified us they were out of the state which was fine. By the time she got back to get our drink order they were out of another dish. The food was decent but not overly wowing. Our server didn't check back until we had already finished our meal and I had to make it a point to say thanks have a good night for her to even say have a good night. I had some doubts after making reservations - read the positive and the negative reviews, and I'm glad to say we had a 5 star positive review! One should not give 5 star reviews without warrant, and thankfully our evening armed us with enough to dole out this 5 star review! We learned pretty late that uber is not available in NY, so we had to get a car service here, which dropped us off maybe 15 min before our reservation time. Luckily our table was ready and the hostess was very pleasant and said we were welcome to sit. Coat check off to the side was a nice touch. The bar area was packed, interesting crowed is all I'll say. Kevin was our server for the evening, and he was so pleasant and friendly right off the bat. Through our chit chat, found out he was from PA and not far from where my fiance grew up so that was a nice connection. We skipped out on an appetizer, knowing that the mains we wanted to order were enough for 2-4 and since we had a late lunch we didn't want to stuff ourselves too much (which is not the norm for us, lol) We picked the bone in rib eye (med rare) and the bbq platter. I had several French 75 (one of my fav drinks) and fiance had a few simple rum and cokes. (alil weird they had bulleit rye but not bulleit whiskey) The bbq plate arrived first, and it smelled and looked soooo tempting. The ribs were fall off the bone, lip smacking good - very smokey flavor. The sausage was an interesting texture, not very firm (except the casing), still good but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd go for again. The pulled pork was the star of the platter - delicious balance of sweet and savory, served over some really nice slices of bread with a great crumb. Ahhh I'm dreaming of it. Then, our ribeye came. Slides off the bone into perfect serving pieces. It had terrific flavor for not being a dry aged steak. Thankfully Kevin was knowledgeable and told us how they order a cow every week (yes, a whole cow), so that's great! The seasoning on the steak was perfect for us, and the steak just melted in our mouths. No room for dessert, so we took our leave out into the cold winter night. I would recommend this spot to anyone, and certainly if we find ourselves in Rochester area again, we will return and request Kevin as our server! read more

Excellent, excellent, excellent. I cannot rave about this place enough. The food is to die for. Pricey, but worth the experience. The family style option is unique. I've been here for dinner just once, but several times for drinks. The drinks, while on the higher end of cocktail prices, are worth it. That's something I rarely say about an expensive drink. I'm picky when it comes to my alcohol, and I have yet to be disappointed. No matter what you order, you can be sure it'll be a strong, tasty beverage. Staff is always attentive, and the ambience is hard to find fault with. Decor is classy and well thought out. All in all, this is a fantastic option for a celebratory dinner or drinks with friends. This place works best for cocktails, which are amazing. Decent beer and wine selection too. The food comes in shareable portions, so it's best to have like-minded people when ordering. I have a quest to find the best burger, so went to try out Good Luck's burger. First things first, make sure you set a reservation. I was able to set one up for a Saturday evening at 8:30. It was very busy when we got there. The place is loud and lively, with dimly lit decor and candles with your table. I think the intimacy of the dim lighting conflicts with how loud and lively the place is. However, even though it was very busy, service was spot on. We never had to wait too long, they attended us just as we needed with water and food, and with great courtesy. I have to commend them for that given the traffic. For the food, we tried the margherita pizza and the good luck burger. The pizza was well done. You could taste the freshness of the herbs and cheese. We were delighted by how strong each flavor came through. The burger was served deconstructed, with buns, a strong cheddar which was a bit overpowering against the burger, their coleslaw, a large amount of skinny fries and a sauce made of ketchup, mayonnaise, and bourbon. The meat itself had an herb... seemed like parsley or oregano? but it was too strong. The fries were a bit short, which I do not prefer. I like some potato with my fries, and the skinny size and length made it more fried than potato. In general, the whole dish was a bit too greasy/fatty with the sauce, butter, and oil. It was a good burger, but not $26 good. All in all, I don't feel the need to come here again because of the $$$, but it was a pleasurable experience. read more

This was my first time at Good Luck. Place is not very well labeled and a bit hard to find if you are not from the area. It's in a warehouse with a parking lot on its side. When entering, it keeps the warehouse feel with candles lighting the inside. Plenty of seating at the bar and table with special seating for events. I could picture coming here for an engagement party or similar. They have a large list of specialty cocktails. Small section of wines and beers. The menu is more about sharing plates with others. I order an IPA from the Tap list and the 1lb burger. The burger came out and was huge with a ton of shoestring fries. The burger was medium and extremely juice on an amazing brioche roll. On the side was a NY sliced cheddar cheese, a slaw, and homemade ketchup. The meal was outstanding. Top 5 burgers I have ever had! Just outstanding! It's a bit expensive so be prepared. The wait staff was helpful and always there to deliver quickly. I will be back with some coworkers or on another trip to Rochester. read more
