These guys saved my @ss, so I need to Thank them publicly. Last weekend I was having a large dinner party at my Condo in Lincoln Park. Everything was going as planned until my Caterer told me my Kitchen sink was NOT working. OMG, I started to panic. Everything was going exactly as planned and then a Tornado hit. My wife and I took immediate action. I went Online and my wife started calling from the Yellow Pages. 20 minutes later not one plumber had answered their phone (this was late Saturday afternoon). While we were on the phones our daughter told us the Toilets wouldn't flush. I thought I was going to die. I had 10 couples coming over for a catered dinner with all the trimmings, and not only can my Caterer not work, but the toilets won't flush. I'm fairly sure my wife and I will need counseling after this event (haha). I finally found this plumbing company called Good Plumbing, Inc. and a guy named Andy answered the phone on the first ring. I begged him not to hang up, he probably thought I was nuts. He explained to me that his two plumbers who work weekends had just gone home 20 minutes earlier. I "BEGGED" him to please come out and fix my problems. I told him I would pay any price, cash, check, credit card, I didn't care. Andy made a joke saying I lived in Lincoln (Can't) Park and it was very hard to find a parking spot late Saturday afternoon. I tolk him I would Pay anything if he sent a plumber out and I would give him my space to park. About five minutes later he called me back and assured me that a plumber would be there within thirty minutes or so. Those thirty minutes seemed like thirty hours. I can't tell you how relieved we were when we saw their van pull up and two plumbers got out and introduced themselves. They started dragging in tons of rodding equipment, hoses, cables, and other tools. Ten minutes later I had two plumbers working on my sink and toilets :-) It turns out that my main sanitary line was clogged up and I had grease buildup in my sink. The whole job took almost two hours. The plummers even helped up clean up and haul away garbage from our party (had nothing to do with plumbing). The plumbers literally left while our first dinner guest was pulling up. I think their prices were extremely fair considering the circumstances. I offered to pay more but the owner Brian refused additional payment. Brian stated they don't take advantage of a customer because they are vulnerable. I thought this was very professional. I thought the bill would be 2x higher. I gave each plumber a generous cash tip because of their professionalism, speed, and additional help with my cleanup. I would highly recommend this company to anyone and I asked Brian to send me extra business cards so I can hand them out to my friends. I'd giv e them Ten stars if I could. P.S. I moved into a brand new gut rehab Chicago apartment, and so of course, I knew there would be little kinks we'd have to work out. The first thing we noticed was the toilet wouldn't flush. I told the landlord about it and a week later, it still wasn't fixed. they said their plumber wasn't responding to them. I told him to find another plumber that can fix it and if it wasn't fixed I would find my own plumber and deduct the cost off my rent. The next day it wasn't fixed, so I was ready to take matters into my own hands. There was a possibility the landlord would have it fixed while I was at work, but i didn't know because no one was responding to me. But just in case I came home from work to find a still broken toilet, I wanted to know I could get a plumber in that night. I called Good Plumbing after reading the good reviews on yelp, and Brian, the owner, said they work till 7, but was understanding to my situation and said if it was after seven, they would still come out, no extra charge, and he would do it himself if he had to. On my way home, they called me to ask if my toilet had been fixed but I didn't know because I hadn't been home yet. They said they had a plumber waiting and they would wait until I got home to call them back to let them know if i still needed them. When i got home, the Landlord had gotten the toilet fixed, and I called Good Plumbing back and said my problem had been solved and that's all they cared about - they weren't mad because i made them wait for nothing, they just wanted to be sure I was taken care of either way. These guys will bend over backwards for you. Even though I didn't use them to fix my problem... it's good to know that if i ever need a plumber, I can count on them to be there for me. read more

Had a terrible experience with "Good" Plumbing. Two simple repairs (replacing a wax toilet ring and a trap under kitchen sink) ended up costing $527.00. The plumber was at my house less than an hour and a half. After a little research, I found out the parts cost around $75. That means Good Plumbing charged me $300 per hour for labor!!! Because the charge seemed exorbitant, I called other plumbers to see what they would charge for the same job: Estimates came in at less than $300 including parts & labor. When I called Andy at Good Plumbing to complain, he refused to break down the bill into labor/parts or explain why the bill was so high. I gave him the other estimates, and told him the names of the plumbing companies that provided them. But it was only when I said that I would post Good Plumbing's rate online that he agreed to reduce the rate and refund the difference. Andy said he would put a check in the mail that week. After a week and a half, no refund. When I called to follow up, he said they had been busy, and he would put it in the mail that day. A week later, no check. When I called again, he said he needed the owner to sign off. Well, guess what? It's been almost a month, and--surprise--no check from Good Plumbing. I feel I was ripped off by Good Plumbing and want to make sure no one else has the same bad experience I had. There are many reputable plumbing companies that charge anywhere from $90-$130 per hour for labor and are willing to give you their rates over the phone. My advice is to use a company that is willing to be up front about their hourly labor charge. Good Plumbing will not disclose their hourly rate. Don't use them! read more

DON'T USE GOOD PLUMBING. THEY ARE A TOTAL RIP OFF! I called to get an estimate but they wouldn't even tell me their hourly rate over the phone. I was desperate (I had a really bad leak under my kitchen sink) so I asked them to come right over. WHAT A MISTAKE! When the plumber arrived he turned off the water from the valve. I asked him why they didn't just tell me to do that over the phone, but he just kind of grunted. Then he said it was the P-Trap, but that he didn't have one on the truck and had to go back to the shop. I told him there was an ACE hardware 2 blocks away. He came back almost an hour later. He said he went to the ACE, but they didn't have one in stock so he had to go elsewhere. When he came back he had food on his shirt and in his teeth. He'd obviously had lunch. He fixed the pipe in 15 minutes and handed me a bill for $487!!!! I freaked. He said he had to charge me for the time it took to get the part. More like the time it took to feed his fat face. I asked him for a receipt for the part and he said he didn't have it but the part was $150. I paid him, but then got a bad vibe so I went to ACE and sure enough he had lied. They had the part in stock and it was $20!!! I called Andy the owner? manager? He kept promising to look into it and get back to me but never did. I've called several times and he just gets nasty. I paid $450 for a plumber to change a p-trap (and have lunch) and now the manager won't return my calls. I am FURIOUS!!! Don't ever use Good Plumbing. Paula S read more

I recently had these guys come by to fix a leak in a rather complicated shower head setup - they were excellent. The guy I spoke with to make the appointment was very friendly, and committed to a set time (no "between 8am and 2pm" stuff). The owner called me after reviewing the original guy's notes, asked me detailed questions about what problems and asked me to take some digital photos of the shower head & e-mail them to him, so he'd know in advance what they're dealing with & could save some time. The guys came right on time, checked things out, and realized they had to get some parts. They immediately went to their plumbing supplier, got what they needed, came back ASAP, and fixed everything up perfectly. They charged me the actual cost of the parts (even showed me the supplier's receipt), cleaned up after themselves, and assured me (just as the owner did) that if anything goes wrong with their work, they'll come back to fix it free of charge. Good Plumbing is definitely not the cheapest around...but I've had some terrible experiences, and have no problem justifying the cost of hiring these guys, considering how well everything went. read more

A close friend mentioned he had used Good Plumbing several different times in the past after he heard me complaining about how most of the drains in my new apartment were running slow/clogged, so I decided to check them out on yelp. I'm by nature very impatient, so at around 11PM on a Saturday I called Good Plumbing and spoke with Bill, the owner. He was very knowledgeable regarding my problem and said he'll get a plumber sent out to me within the hour. I was skeptical at first because I've had problems finding other service companies to fix various problems at odd hours of the night, but Bill stood true to his word and a plumber showed up in about 40 minutes. The plumber was very personable and wanted to make sure I understood exactly what he was doing and how to prevent this problem from occurring in the future. There was no extra fee for after hour service, which was a pleasant surprise. I was also impressed by the quick and open line of communication between the plumber, Bill and I. Good Plumbing gets five stars from me, and I plan on using their services for all plumbing related issues in the future. read more

Here's the story. I came home Tuesday night from a friends birthday party, only to find a pool of water under my fridge in my new condo. After a little investigation I determined the water line to my fridge was leaking. The problem: I'm jumping a flight to South Carolina the next morning and I can't let my fridge leak till I get back. The solution: I hit yelp to find a good plumber. Low and behold I see a company called Good Plumbing... you guessed it, I gave them a call. I talked to the owner (Brian) and he assured me that he could have a plumber out to my condo that same night. Literally 45 minutes later a guy named Tony knocks on my door and tells me he's with Good Plumbing. I was like, YES! Tony was a great guy and he got straight to work. He fixed the leak under my fridge and they only charged me $147 for the problem. That's really cool with me! OMG! Who would have thought that I would fine a plumber on the day their calling for a real blizzard in Chicago?? So, my toilet got clogged this morning and I could not fix it myself. Being that I only have one toilet in my condo, I was so afraid I would not find a plumber on a day like today. I hit yelp (of course) to find a plumber fast. I saw good reviews for Good Plumbing so I gave them a call. The owner (Brian) answered the phone and much to my surprise was actually able to dispatch a plumber to my place in about an hour. 45 minutes later the plumber (Tony) arrived at my door with the toilet snake in his hand, and 20 minutes later he was out the door and my toilet was ready to go again! They only charged me $147 which I thought was VERY fair considering the short notice just before a snow storm. I was so happy they were able to help. I saw the great reviews for Good Plumbing so I gave them a call to see if they could help me get to work on time. A guy named Brian answered the phone and he was very friendly and straight to the point. He said he could have a plumber out to my place in less than an hour. He wasn't kidding! 45 minutes later, a guy named Tony was at my door. I was shocked how fast I could get a plumber in Chicago. Tony unclogged my toilet in less than 30 minutes and I was on my way. I too had a great experience with my guy from Good Plumbing. We discovered our dishwasher was broken and felt a massive lump in the kitchen floor on Friday night and worried about the worst. I called them and they very politely told me that Kevin already had an 8 AM the next day, but he'd put me next and he guessed it'd be around 11 AM or so since I'm in Wicker Park and first guy was in Lincoln Park. Sure enough, Kevin called me when he was done and made sure I would be home. He came by, did tests on all possible systems and concluded that in fact he just needed to clean out some of the lines. Very relieved we didn't need a new appliance. He charged us about $230 which I have no idea if that's high or not, but the way I see it, they were nice, honest, on time, and friendly...so I'm happy. read more

Thanks again Yelp! We found several plumbing issues in our new home. I had never called a plumber before so I was a little skeptical. I found Good Plumbing on yelp so I decided to call them after reading their good reviews. They answered after two rings and I was surprised that they were available to come out to our house the next day. They called us the next day a half an hour before they got to our house. Once the plumber was there he worked efficiently and fixed our problems. He was very friendly too. Our total bill was $427 to fix leaks and install a new toilet valve which I thought was a fair price. I can't say enough good things about good plumbers. They just left our place after replacing the hot and cold shutoff valves, installing our dishwasher, and fixing a leak in our bathroom faucet. To begin -- they are incredibly professional and easy to talk to. When I first called I was impressed by how they easily assessed the situation (over the phone) and were patient dealing with my condo manager. I was able to send them pictures of our problems over email. The plumber and assistant they sent were equally as professional and even found ways to save me some money. I can't say enough good stuff about Good Plumbing. They are very professional, courteous and skilled. They came out the same day and Jan my plumber went above and beyond the call of duty. He backed me up when it turned out that I had a defective sink. It was a slight imperfection in the porcelin not noticable until you tried to put in the drain pipe. I called the store I bought it from and Jan explained the problem. The store owner drove out with a new sink. After a somewhat heated debate between the two about whether there was a defect, Jan took the time to fit the drain pipe and fitting onto both sinks to show the store owner the slight tilt in the drain pipe when fitted into the current sink. read more

Good plumbing is great!!!!!!!! I called this company when our catch basin overflowed last week. I have never called a plumber before so I wasn't sure what to expect. As soon as I spoke to these guys on the phone I immediately knew they were friendly and they made me feel confident that they were going to do a good job at a fair price. When they got to my house they got straight to work to take care of the problem. They unclogged our catch basin in a little over an hour and the bill was only $225 dollars which I thought was very fair. Haven't found a good plumber in many years... I found good reviews on the web for Good Plumbing, contacted Brian, explained the problems and emailed pictures. His estimated price was reasonable, was honored, and the repair plumber did an extra job without additional charge. This work included working with a city employee in order to have street shut-off and the installation of a new water meter... The plumber managed the complex installation of the meter so efficiently that the village employee offered him a job! I'm very pleased. Good Plumbing made it a very good day. read more

I was introduced to Yelp just a couple days ago and today I needed a plumber so I did some investigating on yelp.com. Since Good Plumbing got such high reviews I decided to give them a call. I was NOT disappointed. My "emergency" (one clogged sink and one slowly leaking sink) became their priority, even on a Sunday morning! Brian was right on time and everything is running great! Called Good Plumbing with a frozen pipe this week. They said they would come within two hours. After an hour the pipe burst, I called them again and they got there within ten minutes. Tony was friendly and fixed the pipe quickly. He also told me how to prevent this from happening again and showed me another wall in the house where pipes could freeze without proper insulation.
