This place is lovely. I would give it 5 stars but the service was what brought it down to 4 stars. We came for lunch on a weekday and the parking lot was full. You can tell lots of locals love to come here and the general customer base is older. Our server took a long time to come back to take our orders, and then the food took almost 30 min to come out. It was 4 of us and we didn't order anything extravagant. It was 2 fish and shrimp combos, chicken Alfredo and a steak. The food itself was delicious and you can't beat the price!!! We had been waiting for our table for about an hour before we asked the hostess with reddish hair and glasses when we would be seated and why larger parties who arrived later were being seated before us. Coming back home to Texas for a quick visit, I had to have a Chicken Fried Steak while in town. Goodson's didn't let me down. Our server was an absolute delight, very fast, very polite, and very responsive. Even when you could tell, she was buried in the weeds. Maintained her composure well. The food was on point, living up to the hype. The CFS was perfect as was the cream gravy. Those two were why we went there anyway. The okra was...okra and the potatoes were decent. I actually had to bring about 25% of it home because there was so much food. Looking forward to the leftovers. I don't usually eat this way but it was a true pleasure to get that "warm and fuzzy" Texas Downhome Food fix there. Been wanting to go here for a while but the distance is a 4 hr drive so finally we're able to go there. Picked up my sister in law and daughter and went. We were really excited to go there because of the Chicken Fried Steak. Well we finally put our orders in and received the food, first the service was outstanding and friendly. The food however we were disappointed. My Sister In law ordered the meatloaf which tasted like cheap tomato sauce, my daughter ordered the Pot Roast which was stiff meat, and I ordered the Chicken fried steak which didn't have any flavor. The steak was tender I could cut with a fork but no flavor including the gravy I had to put more pepper and salt. My green beans were soggy and tasted old. My wife had a salad which was good. Over all the food looks great but lacks taste. Will not be going there again. Don't recommend. read more

The "hostess" is extremely rude. When I enter, she walks off. When she returns, she says "what do you want?". She is the wrong person for the job. She has been rude to me on multiple occassions. I was visiting family yesterday and we went here for dinner. my niece and nephew both said it was a really good place. our service was not great to start with. the fried green tomatoes were delicious as well as the onion rings. I had the chicken fried steak which was huge but it was tasteless! the batter was good but the steak had no seasoning. the mashed potatoes were like mashed with water and no butter or milk. the cream gravy was awful too. There was no cream in it either. it was like flour and water and pepper. My nephew's pork chops were hard and dry. his nephew like his chicken sandwich and apple pie. Not sure about the seafood. my other niece only ordered mashed potatoes and gravy and she couldn't eat them. my nephew said he will never go back. he lives in Tomball and has been there many times. read more

The food was horrible and served cold, the tables and the chairs are dirty, floors greasy and visibly dirty, the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. The board of health needs to inspect this place. I gave it another try but the service is still lacking. The chicken fried steak is fine and so were the fried orka and rolls. It just isn't worth the bad service though. My mom asked for lemons to go with her water and it took about 20 minutes to bring them. She even said "I bet you thought I forgot." We waited at least 10 minutes for the check then another 10 to have it picked up. We had to flag her down and she even apologized for not picking up our empty plates then just left them there. We dine in and call our order in for pick up as well and for over 15 years Goodson's has been feeding us very well! The food is always fresh and anything we have ever tried is always yummy. Our friends and relatives who come into town to visit always wants Goodson's and chicken fried steak as they want it immediately when they put bags down they are ready to go eat lol! The service has always been wonderful and with service these days and short of help everywhere in the country now we can say that Goodson's keeps the good old town feeling like your welcomed & come in and enjoy. My wife and I attended the Tomball German festival but for dinner, we decided to hit the Goodson's Cafe. I ate year years ago when I used to work in Tomball and it was really good, comfort food so I talked it up to my wife and she agreed. The one thing I remember was the rolls...homemade hot rolls! That and enormous chicken fried steak. When we arrived, we were seated with no wait; the waitress came over to get our order but she was totally not interested in being at work on a Saturday night. Anyway, we put our order in and waited. When our order finally did come out, the chicken fried steak was huge and looked amazing. It actually was pretty good. HOWEVER, when she brought our meal, she said, We're out of rolls so we brought you some toast instead. We weren't told ahead of time they didn't have rolls or given any other options for those amazing rolls. It was pretty sad looking. So I said so. I said, that's not really a good substitute for the home made rolls Goodson's is known for. She just kinda blew it off. So she left, and we started to eat. I was not happy with TOAST. :( Went to get the gravy out of the bowl for the CFS and it was disgusting. Looked like last minute, thrown together by someone who had never made gravy before. It was lumpy and flour-y and tasted like eating flour. DISGUSTING. The vegetables were pretty good (we had squash and okra, my wife had mashed potatoes that she didn't like at all). Anyway, Waitress never checked on us, never got a refill on our drinks...just terrible service. The place wasn't super busy but it was super LOUD. As a foodie I've had chicken fried steak all over TX and Goodson's if not my favorite is top 3 (again may be the best in TX). Foods always good. Friendly service. All you want in some good country cooking not but 30 minutes from downtown Houston. AND don't forget dessert because the pies and banana pudding are worth your time as well! read more

The hostess is very inhospitable. From telling us to calm down to CLAPPING at us and yelling "Ok!" Multiple times she was unpleasant.
