Time for a feel good great service story…read more This past Saturday I had a routine oil change at Valvoline in Alexandria. Upon leaving their facility I accepted a Lyft rider to Manassas. While cruising down I-66 the check engine light appeared on the dashboard. Upon completing the ride, I attempted to call the Alexandria Valvoline- couldn't even get a ring. Penny called, asked to speak to their manager..... nobody picked up. At this point I'm driving winding rural Virginia roads in a full blown panic. Penny then called the Fairfax location and spoke with their manager, Anna. They told me to bring the car into Fairfax ASAP. Within 15 minutes I was at the Fairfax Valvoline. Despite being the fourth car in line, Anna greeted me with the diagnostic sensor remote. After a quick read, it was the catalytic converter which trigged the check engine light. This was a first for my car. She then reset the dashboard. Upon her recommendation, I went next door to Meinecke. The manager there gave me a full blown lesson on catalytic converters and said it was quite possible the oxygen sensors 'got lazy' and gave a false read. Regardless, the current result is the probable false alarm from the dashboard and does not affect the performance of my car. If the light does reappear, the kind gentleman at Meinecke will do a more thorough analysis. Ultimately, it's great to have Penny come through in the clutch and Anna following through on a promise to take care of my car so efficiently in their shop, even though they did not initially service my car!! 5 Star Service!

Firestone Complete Auto Care -- 1431 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA…read more1 star 2018 BMW 540xi. Dropped it for tires and an alignment. They said the tie rods were seized and needed replacement. I looked at the car on the rack. The right-side clamp Torx was intact. On the left the head was sheared off and the stub was sticking out. They first said it was already like that when I brought the car in and that they did nothing wrong. After I pressed, they admitted they broke the bolt and said they used less than 15 ft-lbs. There was corrosion on the head. I would have accepted "corroded bolt snapped on extraction." I do not accept being told it arrived broken. I let them finish the job. Quote was $885 for both sides including alignment; they said they would cover the left side. I had the work checked by my own mechanic. He said the assemblies were over-torqued and that parts they left on the car were ticking time bombs that needed to be replaced. So I paid Firestone, then paid again to make the steering safe. That is why I will not go back.

When I found out the genuine dealer replacement parts (cat converter/resonator combo) were only $1000, Midas suddenly tried to negotiate. When I suggested Midas' $1000+ repair cost was high considering dealer-replacement cat converter/resonator combo was only $1000, Midas became sarcastic and said "you do you", said I should come pick up the car. Then I brought the car to this Meineke who found just a single leak and repaired it for $400, all with courteous service, excellent communication and no up-selling.
