We were in town for Sping break and wanted something local. Came for breakfast and my husband had the chiliqueles with chorizo, which was soon good. I had the tom's scramble which also very good, loved the kick of jalapeño in there. My son had chicken and waffles which he loved. He is younger and didn't mind they were not bone in. Perfect portions and the staff were the absolute best. We liked everything so much we came back for dinner. Ordered the calamari appetizer which was a bit on tbe rubbery side hard to chew, but the rest of our meal was absolutely delicious. Chicken club sandwich, pesto chicken sandwich and the kids cheeseburger with bacon. All the food was very flavorful and again the staff were great. False advertisement the price on their own website is different than the price they're charging in restaurant of 1550 French dip cost 2199 in the restaurant that's a seven dollar difference and when I explained to the worker, they said well it's only seven dollars. Well it's the 2nd time back, this time we tried dinner and for Brits the danger zone of fish n chips where we have high high hopes.. As you can see from the photo (no editing in case you wondered), the fish was overcooked and looked more like hot wings than delicately battered fish .. The oil tasted like it was reused and fish was dry as a result. to say we were disappointed would be an understatement .. I truly hate giving anything but positive reviews but where was the love and attention, the restaurant wasn't even busy !.. not only the worst fish n chips we've had in the area, I am seriously scratching my head to think of somewhere I have had worse ! Awesome diner close to hotel. Can walk from various hotels in the area. Ambiance is cool. Arrived for lunch on Thursday and was not too busy, which was fine with me, since the food was served hot and fresh. Burger was top notch, fries were piping hot, and tortilla soup was decent. What a gem! We were heading out of Monterey and came across this delightful restaurant...I have never been to a place where I couldn't decide what I wanted from the menu because everything on there I wanted. As it was past 1pm I opted for lunch and got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. It was so good! But their menu is extensive with breakfast/brunch items and every dish that came out of the kitchen I wanted to eat. Service was great and the ambiance was very welcoming and warm. Prices are great too and fun fact, the restaurant name 'googie' is named after an architectural style. Pretty awesome! read more

Food? Excellent renditions of diner breakfast classics. The portions make it an outstanding value! My partner had the Hailey's Comet Special with eggs over easy, sausage, French toast, and hash browns. He added onto the French toast with the carmelized bananas and pecans for $2.75 extra. He ate it all even though it was a large portion! I had a bite of the bananas and pecans. It was hot out of the kitchen and a taste sensation. I ordered Querida's Corned Beef Hash with one poached egg instead of two, and no toast or potatoes. Oh, my little pony! It was the best corned beef hash I've ever eaten! The corned beef was in 1.5" chunks; tender and not salty! The red potatoes were also chunky and tender. There was an abundance of nicely cooked onion, and green bell pepper. The hash was topped by the egg, and then dressed with a delicious Hollandaise. Again, I've never had better! I took home half as the portions were huge! You must have the coffee! It's rich and flavorful. Loved it! Service? Exceptional, professional, and super friendly wait staff! When I asked, after the meal, if I could have the hash without green bell peppers, she said, "Of course!" I also asked about ordering the Frikadeller for lunch. She said that it would probably be available but that I should not be afraid to ask for anything! So sweet! Ambiance? It's a cute, Googie-style decorated diner. Even without my hearing aids, I had no problems hearing my breakfast partner. The restaurant is neat and clean! My dad was a health inspector. He told me that if the back door leading to the dumpster was clean, then the place was sano! The back door was cleaner than my kitchen/garage door! We've lived in the area for 28 years. Googie has been an underwriter for our local NPR station, KAZU, but we never made it over there. This was our loss because it's an amazing restaurant! I can't wait to go back! read more

Friends had been to Googie Grill for lunch and it came highly recommended, so we went in for an early supper. There are so many amazing comfort food items to choose from, we had to order a few in order to have a little taste of everything. A huge positive for this place is that the portions are large, so there was no problem with going family style with most of our choices. Hands down, my favorite was the fried chicken. Breading was flavorful and crispy, while the chicken itself was very moist. The ribs came in a close second. They were tender, but we should have asked for more bbq sauce. Service was on point and attentive. We already had a carafe of water on the table, but sodas and iced teas were refilled frequently as well. Super nice, and homey spot. read more

Great little friendly restaurant. Food is tasty and generous servings. If you're staying at the Embassy Suites, consider taking a short walk and having a great meal here! First time trying this restaurant. It's a very bright, clean locale and I was seated right away. The restroom was very clean and they do have high chairs for the kiddos. They do have outdoor seating for those beautiful coastal sun-shiny days. They also have wine options. As for the food, they do have vegetarian options. I got the veggie patties. They were the Morningstar variety. I got the Huevos Rancheros. It looked brilliant, but upon diving into the dish, there was a film of oil all over the top of the dish (see photo). Not good. Couldn't finish even half of the dish. The iced tea was spectacular. I'd come back because this is the closet restaurant that has vegetarian options, but never the rancheros. What a cute café in the area. We ordered a French dip and a veggie sandwich, and of course had the beignets. Everything was spectacular and the service was wonderful too. I also ordered a bloody Mary to wash it all down, which was fantastic. Definitely give this Grill a five star and would highly recommend it to anybody in the area or even those visiting Seaside. Best kept 'secret' in Seaside, CA for sure! We've come ever since they opened up - stayed with them even after the kitchen and rebuild. You can come; breakfast (yes - try their homemade jam - yikes!!) , lunch or dinner and the food is consistently amazing. I'm picky and this place nails it time after time. YOU have to try their breakfasts (wow), their pork shops are killer and best burgers anywhere around! The seafood is great!!! The chicken parm... yummy! Then if you want to splurge, or have room after all of it.... their home made warm beignets are oh so good. We drive from Salinas to eat here. Our 'table' is always waiting! The chef can't manage first-in, first-out. The food had no flavor. Low-quality ingredients. Today is Mother's Day, how can you not be on top of your game today?! :( We were the 3rd table seated, and it took a long time for our meal to get to us, about 45 minutes. The worst part, a couple that was seated about 15 minutes after we got there received their plates before us. We had high hopes for good food after that screw up. Unfortunately, that was not the case. :( Had a veggie scramble that had no flavor and was greasy. My husband's meal wasn't much better. The French toast tasted like it had been sitting for a while. We couldn't tell what they topped the French toast with. It looked like custard, but we think it might have been fake butter. No yummy French toast flavor there either. I've passed by Googie Grill many, many times over the last almost 10 years since it opened its doors - finally tried it... and was alas not impressed. Interesting interior, very mid century modern vibes. Odd viewing to the wait staff's prep area through large slanted windows. Felt cozy enough on a rainy night with the Christmas decorations up. We effectively had the restaurant to ourselves, and did end up with some expedient, polite, but kind of perfunctory feeling service. Food all came out promptly. The crispy brussel sprouts were oily, not very crispy, and effectively not seasoned at all. Needed salt, but there was some on the table. Not a memorable app. My saffron risotto with butterfly shrimp was a mistake. The risotto had a soapiness to it which I'm not sure if it was a clash of the saffron and something else but it was the worst risotto I've ever had. The shrimp were well seasoned and prepared. But, 80% of the dish was the risotto itself - the server didn't ask us how our meal was, so I passed on letting them know. The pomegranate sauced pork chop was cooked perfectly, but again was very underseasoned. Sauce had really nice flavor. Veggies were blanched and served cooked well - still a nice crunch to them. For the price point I definitely expect more. read more

We went to dinner tonight at Googie Grill. When we travel to Monterey it's always on our list to eat there. We went early and they were not busy. We both ordered the Sand Dabs. I got mashed potatoes and my husband got French fries and fresh vegetables. The fish was lightly grilled with a lemon caper sauce and served with the most perfect mashed potatoes and beautifully cooked fresh vegetables. It was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. We ended our wonderful meal with bread pudding topped with ice cream and an ice cream sundae for my hubby. The service is always excellent and the atmosphere is nice and casual. You go here for the food and It is always spot on. I don't know who the cook was but our meal was a ten.. we will return I have to have my Googie fix. read more

I ordered a Ceasar salad to go. I received a "dead" salad. The lettuce was not fresh. The lettuce was dry like it had been in the cooler a while. The lettuce was covered in Parmesan "dust", I'm not sure that this was ever actual Parmesan cheese. The dressing had a bitter flavor. A Ceasar is a simple item, but when well done it is very satisfying and enjoyable. This salad was the opposite of that. The menu online shows the price to be 9.50, I was charged $14.50. We always worry a bit when we arrive at a restaurant within a certain window before closing. Both of us having worked restaurants, we know that sometimes we've wanted customers to ask whether or not we're still seating, even when we are, of course. So, we asked, within a half-hour of closing, if there might be a chance of getting something quick. The host and wait staff assured us that they were eager to serve us whatever we ordered. Steak for me; fish-and-chips for my date. Both relatively quick, in our experience. And the folks at Googie Grill were efficient and prompt, but they also, clearly, did not skimp on the expertise and time necessary to put together such extraordinary food. "Extraordinary" fish-and-chips? "Extraordinary" steak? Yes. In both cases there were lovely surprises. We traded bites and guesses at what had been included in the coating of the fish, and at what had been included in the sauce for the steak. We came up with some possibilities, but ultimately decided that the best solution to the mystery was to abandon our detective work and simply plan a return trip to Googie Grill. You're likely to do something similar, and so will we - with some other menu selections in the near future. read more
