We had reservations and once everyone was there we were seated at 2 tables. The server set up the iPad and explained how to order from it. In order to get the bogo deal everyone has to order a drink. So we ordered drinks on the iPad and sent the order. Then we started going through the Japanese BBQ items and sushi rolls. We ordered about 6 sushi rolls and 8 meats for round 1. The meats came out quickly. The bulgogi and brisket were enjoyed by everyone. Also pork and beef belly were quite tasty. Soon after the sushi rolls came to the table. We sampled crunchy California rolls, Hawaiian, Alaskan, rainbow, and shrimp rolls. We filled the barbecue with the rest of the meat and dug in. Round 2 was more brisket, bulgogi, pork and beef belly. Until everyone was nearly stuffed. Finished off with some smores and Gelato. Total came to $38 per person, for food, drinks, tax,and tip. A fantastic deal for AYCE Japanese BBQ and sushi. Highly recommend you try this restaurant. We had a good time.

For sides we tried the mapo chili, sesame slaw, spicy cucumber, and coconut rice. Personally, I'm a big fan of the coconut rice. The flavor is mild enough to let the meat shine, but has a very distinct profile that is still enjoyable to taste. As a good side, it acts as a nice complement. The sesame slaw is also very crisp and refreshing, which is much desired for me (typically not a heavy meat person). I don't particularly enjoy the spicy cucumbers texturally, as I usually prefer a fresher crunch. I also wasn't the biggest enjoyer of the tallow fries, which reminded me of a frozen crinkle-cut fry texture. In-house sauces are an appreciated Asian-spin, not your "traditional" hot sauce or barbecue. Service has always been accommodating and expedient. A past order mix-up was handled very professionally and smoothly, with an extra pandana (pandan banana pudding) for the hassle. If you're going with family, seating and ambiance is very pleasant. I always hear lots of children running around, with plenty of well designed spaces for socialization. Tents lined with stringed lightbulbs, outdoor bar seating, or traditional picnic/table seating are all available options. There's big restrooms, outdoor washing services, and multiple water dispensers. I went around 6:40 PM on a Saturday. Parking lot space is limited, so we've never considered it personally. Expect more street parking nearby in the neighborhood across the street or in that area.

Unfortunately, our experience at Gooyi last week was extremely disappointing. My husband called ahead because we had a party of 7, including four children and my father-in-law. He was about 45 minutes away and, knowing it was dinner rush, specifically wanted to make sure we wouldn't arrive with four hungry kids and an elderly parent only to face a long wait. A very kind male employee answered and explained that there were no tables available at that moment, but if we arrived in approximately 45 minutes, a table would be available and ready for us. He never specifically said "reservation," so we assumed he was putting us into the current wait time. When my husband arrived, however, a female who appeared to be a manager or person in charge immediately spoke to him in an unnecessarily aggressive and disrespectful manner, telling him he needed to wait like everyone else. Instead of calmly explaining that there may have been a misunderstanding or that the employee had given incorrect information, she continued speaking to him rudely--in front of our four children and my father-in-law. That is what bothered me most. If your restaurant has a policy against holding tables, I completely understand. If an employee made a mistake, I understand that too. What I do NOT understand is why a customer needs to be yelled at or spoken down to over a misunderstanding they didn't create. My husband also noticed a larger table already set up, and after our family arrived, the settings were removed. I can't say with certainty that the table was intended for us, but given what we had been told over the phone, it understandably added to the frustration. I arrived shortly afterward with my mother-in-law. After hearing what happened, I went inside to calmly speak with someone. The restaurant looked busy and possibly short-staffed, so I patiently waited for the male employee to become available. While I was explaining the situation to him, the same woman approached, and her behavior basically confirmed everything my husband had told me. She was visibly upset, spoke over the male employee, and then WALKED AWAY while I was still speaking to her. No apology, no acknowledgment of the misunderstanding, and no attempt to have a respectful conversation. I was honestly shocked. We had eaten at Gooyi before and had a good experience, which is exactly why we wanted to return and bring my in-laws. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed our impression of the restaurant. Even afterward, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was overwhelmed. Maybe they were understaffed. Maybe she was simply having a terrible day. I understand that everyone has bad days. But being stressed does not give anyone the right to disrespect customers--especially in front of children and elderly family members. We ended up having to quickly find somewhere else to eat and went next door. Completely different food and atmosphere, but the difference in hospitality was immediate. We were welcomed, the employees were attentive to our kids, and they made sure our family was taken care of. It reinforced something for me: restaurants can be busy, mistakes happen, policies can be misunderstood, and food doesn't always have to be perfect. But the way you treat your customers matters tremendously. I sincerely hope management takes this review as an opportunity to address how customers and apparently employees are spoken to during stressful situations. I do want to recognize the male employee who initially helped my husband and later spoke with me. Despite being put in an uncomfortable position and being spoken to harshly himself, he remained calm, professional, and kind throughout the entire interaction. He was the one positive part of an otherwise extremely disappointing experience!! read more

We came here for lunch on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of a wait. Their lunch specials are very reasonably priced at $11.92 per dish, which is a great deal. This way we can order a variety of items to try even though there was only two of us. The service was commendable--our waiter was the only one working, yet he was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The food, however, was a mixed bag and left some room for improvement. The stir fry pork was decent, but the flavor profile was one-dimensional--just sweet. I wish it had more char and the onions could have been grilled a bit more to add depth. The Steamed Egg with American cheese on top sounded intriguing, but the execution fell short. The cheese didn't melt properly and ended up separating from the egg, plus it tasted overly processed and didn't complement the dish. The Kimchi Cold Noodles were refreshing, but I missed the usual mustard and vinegar that typically accompany cold noodles. The noodles themselves weren't as chewy as I'd hoped. The Beef Tofu Soup was the highlight of the meal. It was flavorful with just the right amount of spice, making it my favorite dish on the lunch menu. Unfortunately, the Cream Udon was a complete miss. The sauce was watery and tasted like boiled milk, with no discernible flavor. I would definitely skip this one. On a positive note, they serve five different banchans, and the cucumbers were a standout--reminiscent of the cucumber salad from Din Tai Fung. We visited this restaurant for lunch today, and unfortunately the service was extremely disappointing. When we walked in, there was only one other table and one server. We stood at the entrance for a while without being acknowledged, even though the server and kitchen staff clearly saw us. During the meal, the server accidentally dropped a piece of onion onto my child's seat. My son picked it up and placed it on the table. Shockingly, the server later picked up that same onion and put it back onto the grill, without any apology or comment. This raised serious food safety concerns. To make matters worse, after grilling our meat, the server brought the entire plate to another table before returning it to us, again without explanation. We were also not given any dipping sauces until we specifically asked. The food itself was flavorful and well prepared, but the restaurant had only two tables at the time, and this level of inattentiveness and lack of basic service was unacceptable. Gooyi92 is a new Korean bbq place in Irvine that below me away with quality of their meats and their intestines. We got one of set of the meat that had tripe, small intestines, large entails and it comes with steamed egg,(cheeseeeeee!) and soybean paste stew!! And I've been a huge fan of small intestine recently. the steamed egg comes with cheese and is the best!! We also got some meats to cook in our own grills prime ribeye cap steak, of which they only allow five orders per day! It's considered by some to be the best part of the ribeye. Some other must tries include the beef Tartare. Unfortunately they're currently open for Togo. But you can enjoy their Togo food at the patio. read more

That's when they offer more affordable options at $11.92 like stir-fried pork, etc. No beef options for their special though Pretty much everyone at the restaurant were ordering the lunch special, which makes the most sense/value here. I made the mistake and ordered the Prime Ribeye $51.92, which was not worth it at all. I think they need better dipping sauce options for the meat. The tripe fried rice was $9.92 and it was very super spicy, but also small portion. The banchan was not as impressive; there were no pancakes. This isn't your typical BBQ place where you cook it yourself; the server does it for you. I can see people come here for the lunch special, for the most value, but I don't find the other choices worth it. read more

Gooyi is our go-to KBBQ spot in Irvine when we're craving a luxurious dining experience with top-notch beef that's cooked right at your table. What sets this place apart are the unique side dishes, like white kimchi, vinegar onions, and chive salad--definitely not your typical KBBQ sides. Fantastic bbq place. GOOYI92 is now open in Northpark plaza. Wait time was 30 min on Saturday night. Very polite stuff and servers. They check my temperature at the beginning. They use a lot of tricks to serve people during Pandemics. I wish I could try everything on the menu. The quality of the meat was premium and it melts in my mouth. It was the best Beef Tartare I've ever had. You must try this place! 10 Stars deserved. Definitely will come back again. read more

This place gave a slight fancy atmosphere with its elegant and neat presentation of dishware which are refillable. The wait was about an hour during dinner hours since there are only about 10 small tables inside. The manager and staff were also very attentive to refill water or side dishes. The tofu soup was excellent and perfectly seasoned. Would recommend and come here again. Worth the wait.

I would never make this at home because I'm the only one who enjoys this in my family of boys. Must add some vinegar and mustard to give a tang. Portion size is huge. Don't forget to ask for complimentary hot broth. It's the best thing ever. In the H mart Alton food court. Love the ease & other options for other people. There is always parking & a seat in here. As much as I want to love this place (like I used to), I can't do it anymore. We usually get naengmyun and their set meals with bulgogi. The last several times, the bulgogi set meal has been a disappointment. Today I took to-go and the quality of their food has seriously gone down. It's like they have no quality control. A few of the banchans were old (sour radish, mushy cucumbers, kimchi was sour but also did not taste good, as I know even sour kimchi can be good - this was not). They gave me a whole ton of lettuce under some banchan and under the bulgogi (which I don't get because the lettuce ends up being wilted/soggy with the hot bulgogi on top). Why not just leave that out? There was a tiny amount of Japchae and a couple gyeran Mari (which looked a mess and was unraveling). The soup was so bland and smelled like rags. In the past, the meal sets were so good, fresh, and such a great meal all around with proper amounts of each banchan. Over time, the portions have gone down, they started serving old rice and banchan and lots of filler lettuce. One time I had found a piece of metal dish scrubber in my bulgogi. Also as I waited for my food today, I received a cup of their beef broth (yuksu) which I've had numerous times from there and other naengmyun places. Upon first taste I noticed it was sour and smelled pretty bad (like wet rags again). Never has it tasted or smelled like that. I recall in the past it had a strong beef dashida smell but definitely not today. I told the cashier girl it tasted funny but I don't think she understood that I was telling her it tasted "off". I'm giving this place a couple extra stars because their naengmyun usually tastes good (although it's never consistent). In the future I'd stick to only eating naengmyun here (when they are busy so I know quality may be better due to more turnaround of ingredients). Never again will I eat anything else from here. Gave them too many chances. I really hope they figure out how to better their quality of food and keep things consistent.

Service is a bit slow but we were able to get everything we need in terms of cooking the delicious meats within 10 minutes of sitting down period during lunch hour, you get the choice of a few selection of beef and chicken. The meat for the Shabu is thinner than for the barbecue here. Meat quality is pretty up there, and you can't go wrong with any of the options. The Shabu also comes with vegetable and noodles, either Ramen or udon. But wait, there's more, once you're done, the lunch special comes with different types of ice cream as a dessert, including mochi ice cream. Our server was extremely helpful and prompt. Interior is pretty sizable and each of the table comes with a grill and a hot plate for the hot pot. Can't wait to return!

He asked for chopsticks, spoons, and forks, and the employee told him they normally don't provide utensils for takeout orders. Honestly, that makes no sense. Not everyone is taking their food home where utensils are readily available. After asking again, they only gave him two forks and three chopsticks. We ordered spicy jjampong and didn't even get a spoon, which is kind of essential for a soup dish. The food is still great, but the lack of basic utensils for a takeout order was frustrating and disappointing. The employee who took the phone order wasn't friendly either.

It still feels like a bit of a hidden gem--never overly busy when we come in. We usually get here around 5 PM when they reopen after lunch, and it's the perfect time. My daughter is a tough food critic and doesn't like a lot of places. Her rotation is pretty selective : Din Tai Fung, Sup Noodle, In-N-Out, just to name a few so the fact that Momo Paradise made her list says a lot. It definitely feels worth the money every time we come. Fresh food, great experience, consistent service. And Anderson is the man!! We got the AYCE Waygu Experience for $54.95 x 2 adults and got two kids' meals for FREE with the Star Student deal. If you know teens, they can eat like adults, so this was an amazing deal for our family of four. The AYCE experience included the waygu beef, two broths of our choice, fancy sodas, teas, bobas, jellies, and access to the salad bar. There were plenty of options to keep everyone happy (esp the ramen & udon). We chose shabu shabu and tonkotsu for our broths. Next time, I definitely want to try the sukiyaki. Another fun surprise was the ice cream at the end. It was the perfect little treat to top off a great meal. Everything was fresh and clean. We left super full and would definitely come back again.

The service was noticeably unfriendly and not very attentive. After waiting about 15-20 minutes between giving us plates of meat, our server finally returned, and when I asked about the delay, he said he was busy with other tables. During our wait, we also noticed cleanliness issues that were very concerning, including German cockroaches crawling around us. The food was also not up to the usual standard. We received two plates of meat. One was fine. The other arrived looking partially frozen and discolored, and after cooking it was very tough. The atmosphere was also unpleasant due to a constant beeping sound that became very distracting and even gave some of us headaches. When I raised these concerns at the front counter with someone who identified themselves as a senior staff member, the response was only an apology. We were told they were aware of ongoing pest control issues, which was very concerning to hear. There was no compensation offered for the experience. Overall, this visit was far below the standard we've come to expect, and unfortunately it has made us question whether we will return in the future.
