WOW! What took me so long to try Gorkha Palace??? After literal years of waking past, we finally decided to get our Indian food fix here. And my only regret is that my stomach can't fit more. We started with the savory raisin naan- amazing! For entrees we had the pea tofu and the chicken tikka masala - PERFECTION!! For a side we had garlic naan - superb! Take out from Gorkha Palace was tasty and done right. During COVID, it is order online or by phone and pick up curb side. Ready on time, and they allow you to select your spice level - 1 for no heat and 5 for spicy. The Chicken Biryani with vegetable, cashews and raisins was very tasty. The Lamb Sekuwa, was marinated in yoghurt and spices. The accompanying lentil soup was delicious. Choyla Lamb was spicy-delicious and served with an interesting and flavorful soy nut salad. Gorkha Palace is affordable, delicious food, when you need someone else to do the cooking. For me it was a rare treat. May become a regular soon. read more

This is now my favorite South Asian restaurant in the metro. A few weeks ago, we went to see our son play with his combo at Jazz Central. My wife and I had some time before the show, and decided to stop by for the first time. We both got Choyla (recommended here on Yelp), and it was AMAZING. She got chicken, I got lamb. The soy nut salad was an eye-opener, and the potato salad was a great antidote to the spicy meat, together with the little bit of raita in the middle of the cute Bento box. It was one of those experiences where you sit silently and just roll your eyes at each other in bliss. The lamb was a little tough, but tasty, and my wife's chicken was perfect. So, for Mother's Day, my son asked where we should take my wife. I suggested Gorkha because we'd had such a great experience, and it's mid-way between our two places. He hadn't eaten there before. This time, instead of what we usually do (which is order the same dish that we loved again), we decided to change things up. She got a curry, and I got a Briyani. Now, the first time I had Briyani it was at a Hyderabad Grill, and it was awful, so I was a little gun-shy, but these guys do such a good job, I thought I'd give it another shot. The waitress asked what heat level we wanted, and both my wife and son got theirs at level 5, which is their highest advertised heat level. When she asked me how I'd like my Briyani, I said "as hot as you make it". She said "well, we have a 'secret' super-hot level 6, is that what you want?". Yup. That's what I want. Level 6 includes a lot of minced Thai peppers. I'm a fan of heat, and have never been blown away by the interpretation by Indian/Nepali restaurants in town. Too many Minnesotans who think mayo is too spicy sending their dishes back, I guess. THAT was a very tasty Briyani. And it was nicely hot. Still not burn your face off hot, but plenty of heat without sacrificing flavor. It's a pricey spot. For the three of us, I spent about $110 before tax. But the food was totally worth it. And both my wife and I brought home leftovers, and it turned into three meals. So, ~ $30 apiece? Not awful, but not McDonalds. It was extremely busy that night. Place was pretty much packed. Yet, our service was awesome. It was really impressive seeing the servers and other wait staff just whizzing around the floor. So, definitely recommended when you're looking for South Asian food (especially if you're looking for spicy food). You'll pay a premium, but you get what you pay for. I will be back. I highly recommend the Kashmiri naan, it has nuts and dried fruit so I love the contrast between the soft savory naan, the crunchiness of nuts and the sweetness of the fruit. Last year we ate at this restaurant, everything was good. 18% service charge was automatically charged to our bill. We understand that. Normally we gave 20% tips anyway. This time we ate here, we saw the bill and a tip option. We gave 20% of the tips. We didn't realize that our bill was already charged 18%. We called the restaurant that we didn't mean to give 38% for the tips. The only reason we picked this place(was visiting friends in MN) is to get some Momos and I was utterly dissatisfied. Service was nice but as for the food goes, I'd call it below average for my personal preference. We've ordered a sample of few items to check how the food tastes first. Bhatmaas(appetizer), veg momos, garlic roti(since garlic naan is common in most places) and mixed vegetable curry. Bhatmaas was the only item that had tasted decent, garlic roti was half cooked on a side, Momos tasted so bland. We didn't dare to order any other items and walked out half hungry. read more

There are a lot of Indian restaurants in the minneapolis area. Most of them have similar taste and menu items that cater to the general taste of what Americans think should be on the menu in an India restaurant. That's great, gives people a consistent experience and exposure to variations of similar dishes. Gorkha palace has some of those items and also some unique tastes and flavors that I am a big fan of! For snacks they have roasted soy nuts called bhatmaas, momo's: yummy dumplings! For entrees they have goan shrimp which has a lovely curry flavor to it. Choyla gives you a little bit of lots of yummy things. They also have one of my favorite mango lassi's that has a nice hint of cardamom. Check out this NE gem! read more

Oh man! I used to love this place a lot! Lost 2 stars for me because the price over value makes me think twice about ordering take out from this business in the future. I may still stop by once in a while if my friends insist on hanging out here but that's about it. I was charged $40 for a small bowl of "noodle soup" and some bison momos. See photos attached. I ordered take out means to go/I pick up my own food and they tagged an extra 18% surcharge to my order!? They seemed to have already raised their prices on their menu. A small bowl of soup was $19, yes I call it soup because the chicken thenkthuk that they claimed was an entree, was not. Their claim of amazing homemade noodles were also mediocre since there were barely any noodles in that dish. It was ridiculous that they could not explain to me what the additional charges was for, especially since I was doing a takeout. The cubed lamb was overcooked, although generously portioned. My wife had a vegetarian curry dish and she liked it a lot. Otherwise, I think this place is generally unremarkable, especially when you consider the price. They add an automatic 18% surcharge, which our wait person said "goes to the house." Not what I expected. I am on a search for delicious, authentic Indian food in the Twin Cities. My husband saw this place on Yelp. It's not too far from us so my husband picked up take out. I had palak paneer. My husband ordered matar paneer. We both had fresh kashmir naan. The palak paneer and matar paneer were both decent. Not great, but fine. We ordered spice level 6, but it wasn't very spicy. Kashmir naan was not sweet. It didn't even taste like naan. Just a plain baked bread. Not a bad spot, but not fabulous. Tried this place while visiting Minneapolis as this is one of the top places to try for indian Nepalese cuisine. We ordered their masala tea, samosas, combination platter momos, chicken tikka masala and nans. The momos were really tasty and of the platter, the yak momo was the best. The veggie and turkey momos were just ok. I found all the other dishes just about average to my taste. Probably should have tried something different from the menu. Had a friend recommend the Friday lunch buffet and he was not wrong! Oh, boy; we arrived hungry and left fat, dumb and happy. The setting was so cozy with so many pictures and accents. The owner even stopped by our table twice to thank us for coming in! The food was outstanding, especially for a chilly fall day. I could not stop eating the sweet potato fritters and would love the recipe for lentil soup. The lamp was perfectly spiced and tender. The vegetable curry accompanied everything on the plate very well. I also liked the sauteed broccoli. The curry is $18 for not a lot of curry but tasty, esp with the garlic naan. Pakora came with a tamarind chutney and a cilantro mint (im guessing here) that were both nice. The server asked what spice level for the curry and I said 3 (out of 5) thinking it'd be medium spicy but it turns out 3 means not spicy (like literally not spicy and I'm not even that good with spice) which means anything less is negative spicy?? Simply the best, this place sets the bar for Indian/Nepalese food. Excellent service, clean and delicious. A large enough menus to tempt and to satisfy the vegans and the carnivores. Food here was fine - I am not super knowledgeable about this type of food, but it was tasty. I thought it was a bit overpriced, however. We were lucky enough to get a couple things off the happy hour menu. The chili chicken was tasty and the right amount of heat (level 2). The garlic roti left a bit to be desired. Bland and dry. This is not necessarily a reflection on the restaurant - but I was seated near the door and my wallet was stolen right out of my purse while I ate. New favorite Indian food restaurant in Gorkha Palace, we have gotten 4 dishes in the two times we have been here during this pandemic for takeout. First, great takeout experience both times. They gave us a time, both times and it was exactly that timeframe. I liked that you call and the. They bring it out front and set it on a chair with your name on it. We got veggie samosas that are just perfection with the yummy mint and tamarind chutney sauces, I could easily make meal out of just those. Our 4 dishes were Chicken Tikka Masala, best I in the twin cities, the only better I have had was in London. Chicken Coconut Curry, I recommend a spice 3 on all the dishes, as Indian spice build and your Mouth will be on fire at a 4(out of 5). This is my favorite dish the chicken is so tender and I love the veggies in this dish. Lamb Sekuwa - we had never tried this dish before now and took a chance, and glad we did! This had a ton of veggies in it and the most tender meat you will ever eat. Yum! Chicken Biryani was last, this was good, but our other dishes were out of this world, try them first. "Their naans are the best naans in the world." --Hunter, age 6 We stopped by on a whim on a Friday night with two kids and they were very accommodating. The food was incredible. We had one vegetarian, one carnivore, and two picky kids and we were all happy. The only weird thing was that the menu said the 18% service charge was a replacement for tipping, and yet the server said the service charge didn't go to him at all, so tips were at our discretion. This place is a hidden treasure in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis! I've been to this place on a few occasions and I absolutely love it! The staff is incredibly friendly, the food well seasoned and flavorful, and the ambiance intimate and inviting. When you go here you have to order for veggie pakora! It's so delicious. It's kind of like veggie tempura but with more flavor! It comes with two different types of sauce a sweet and a savory (I prefer the former) and heats up really well for leftovers! Another amazing appetizers is their momos. No matter which one you get they are all brimming with flavor! As for entrees you really can't go wrong! I suggest going on a Friday during lunch, as they have a buffet set up during that time where you can try so much food!! Also they label everything so well! Whether your df, v, vg, gf, etc they have you covered!! This is a great place for a date night or a night out with a friend! I don't recommend this place for a spontaneous night out with a big group but if you call ahead they'll make arrangements for your party! I tried the chicken, bison, and veggie momo and my personal favorite was the chicken but they were all really good. They also have outstanding sauces that went with all of their appetizers. I came here for lunch with a group, which is the best way to experience the restaurant, since that way you can share and try many different dishes! Unfortunately, I have to compare this restaurant to other Indian restaurants in the twin cities, and for the price, there are better options that have more flavor and variety. This is probably my favorite Indian/Nepali/Tibetan food in Minneapolis ATM. I highly recommend. We had the mo mo sampler - it didn't live up to my expectations but it was still good as a starter. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb vindaloo, as well as the garlic naan. The garlic naan was probably the highlight of the meal- the bread was soft and full of flavor but not overwhelming. The chicken tikka masala was the best I've had. It was prepared well - high quality with fresh ingredients. It goes really well with the garlic naan. The lamb vindaloo was ok - I had better elsewhere. The fiancé and I decided to try this place on a Friday night - it was actually pretty busy. They have a small parking lot outside, but it fills quickly. They served us a little complimentary diced apple side dish which wasn't very good - just didn't taste fresh. I wish they also served complimentary Naan - there are several kinds to order on the menu, but a little starter would have been awesome!
