I got an egg bagel with an egg, he got a bagel with cream cheese. 30 minutes after we ordered he got a text saying they were out of Asiago bagels (which he ordered) and needed to choose another. I'll take some responsibility as I was willing to pay $28 to get a BEC and an iced latte delivered. But my iced latte never showed up. I had to play phone tag with the restaurant to get a refund. Bagel was dry, added toppings were ok, pickle was eh but the bacon was good. Below average BEC especially at it's price point. The bagel sandwiches are quite good, but the overall experience has a lot of room for improvement. I ordered the Lox & Cream Cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. The bagel is on the dense side, but the ingredients and sandwich were very good overall. Now for the "not ideal" part - I asked for the bagel to be toasted dark. It wasn't toasted at all. Maybe they don't have a toaster? - I added tomato, cucumber, and capers, pretty standard for a lox & bagel sandwich. It turns out you're charged extra for each individual item, so I ended up paying about $15 before tax & tip. I'm happy to pay for good food, but itemizing each vegetable seems like a bit much. - I was hoping to grab a soda and maybe some potato chips with my lunch. No such luck. They don't offer either. So, if you just want a bagel, and you happen to want it their way, this might be a great spot for you. These are hands down my favorite bagel in the city. The bagels alone are so good you don't even need anything on them.. BUT their cream cheese (both vegan and reg) are also so good. Great bagels terrible experience. First, let me share the bagels here are great, and the staff is friendly. If you are planning to go here, make sure that your orders 40 minutes in advance. Even if you're a walk-in, you must order online, and then it takes...wait for it....40 minutes for your bagel, which is fine. They have a beautiful patio, and it's in a lovely location in Lakeview where you can wander through the neighborhood. Since I know, this is not a reflection of the host or kitchen. Operations/management at Gotham, get your shit together. You have a great product, you have a great atmosphere, you have a great location, but your process and kitchen efficiency was a cluster fuck. Since waiting now over 1hr, I've seen dozens of your customers walk in and then walk out without an order or the patience to wait 40 minutes. OK folks, I am going to save you alot of time and effort finding the best bagel in Chicago and I am going to add an extra tip. First off, there are alot of places in Chicago that claim to have excellent bagels, but they are all garbage. I am not going to call any bagel place out by name because frankly, they all suck - with one exception. Gotham Bagels has the best bagels in Chicago. They can go head to head with NYC bagels any day. So if you really care about a great bagel, please don't waste your time going to any other "bagel in name only" place becaue you will be disappointed. Now here is an extra tip for those who actually care about everything else that goes with the perfect Sunday bagel brunch. While Gotham has excellent cream cheeses and everything else on their menu is excellent, their offerings cannot compare to Kaufman's Deli in Skokie. Skip Kaufman's bagels, but if you want to get amazing nova, whitefish, smoked salmon, salads, baked goods, and so much more for the perfect brunch, head to Skokie (about 20 minutes away from Gotham Bagels).
