Nothing to write home about. It's just not at all worth the price. I got the lox bagel with chive cream cheese on an Asiago bagel. They barley put any cream cheese on and the bagel was tough. The lox were good, but overall the flavor of the bagel sandwich was dull. I did like the spicy pickle! I also got a London fog latte that was meh. Overpriced for the wait and price. I realize that they are busy but the quality isn't what it was prior and the time that you have to wait is always worse than you are told. Every time I go I tell myself I'm going to keep it simple and just get a bagel and cream cheese or a BEC and every time I get one of their specialty sandwiches because like, why not. Where else can you get pastrami on a bagel? Exactly. Be warned - it is expensive especially compared to your other bagel options (hence the 4/5) but it's soooo good that I'm ok with it. These are the best bagels I have had so far in Chicago. However, the reason for the 4 and 5 stars is the salt bagel was, for me, entirely too salt encrusted to eat. The texture was crisp and chewy and if you love, love salt, this is the bagel for you. Salt that was the devil to scrape off on both the top and bottom. Yummy variety of bagel breakfast sandwiches. I got the Yellow C.A.B. (cheddar, avocado, bacon, arugula, tomato, mayo) with no mayo. It was good and the bagel tasted fresh. My only note is that there was a lot more bagel than toppings--the layer of toppings seemed pretty thin. This could be because I have pretty high standards for bagel sandwiches and am used to NYC bagel sandwiches, which are stuffed to the brim with toppings. It also came with a spicy and sour pickle! My friends got the "V" sandwich: scallion tofu spread, poblano salad, tomato, arugula, avocado. This was sooo good and although messy, the toppings were way more plentiful. I hate having to give this review, but their quality has declined such a substantial amount since my first visit. They used to have the best bagels in the city in my personal experience, but they've continued to lower the quality of their product. Bagels themselves have become overcooked, and they've reduced the amount of cream cheese substantially and no longer even cut the bagel with cream cheese in half. I don't appreciate the only being able to order online, but it was never an issue with the product itself. Overall, hardly feel I want to continue to visit them for the foreseeable future, and I've been dozens of times since moving here from nyc a couple years ago. Disappointing, truly. read more

Wow! Had my 1st trip her last weekend and have been overdue to write a RAVE review. I'm a hard-core lover of Bagels and worked in NYC for ~ 6 years. I think these are the best bagels I've had in CHI and can absolutely compete w/your favorite NYC bagel! I ordered a 1/2 dozen and tried Sesame, Plain and Everything...all of them were just delicious...the right amount of outer crust and inside just wonderfully soft w/just the right 'chewy' quotient. I also ordered the 1/2 lb Lox box and this was the 'OMG' moment. The Lox were 100% melt in your mouth! Again, fresh as can be and a perfect amount of fat for a wonderfully marbled flavor. I asked Gotham to hold the Arugula and instead give me extra sliced tomatoes...I have not had a more delicious tomato in any restaurant in recent memory. The portions of Tomato, Onion & Capers were also very generous! So happy to have Gotham Bagels her in Lincoln Park/Lakeview in Lincoln Ave. Go check 'em out...you will NOT be disappointed! read more

Hands down, this is the BEST bagel place in the area! I recently moved to Chicago and have been on the search for a great bagel, only to be disappointed each time. Gotham Bagels are what I've been looking for, a traditional NY style bagel - chewy on the inside with a nice crisp exterior. They even have Egg Everything! If you're from the DMV area these very similar to Bethesda Bagels I've only had the bagels and cream cheese so no comment on sandwich options. ORDER & PICKUP: Currently, due to COVID, they're only open for pick-up and you need to order online in advance. Their online order site is very easy to navigate and pick-up is a breeze. It took about 20mins for my order to be ready after ordering ASAP option. There is street parking out front so it was easy to pull up and run in quickly. It's looks like they have a patio out front with picnic tables (or maybe it's part of the restaurant next door?) so hopefully when the weather is warmer they will offer outdoor seating. CREAM CHEESE: This is the only area for improvement is they are very limited with their cream cheese flavors. I had the scallion which was delicious and actually had scallion flavor, however this is the only savory flavor at the Lincoln Park location. They have TONS of flavors at their Madison location (Jalapeno Garlic, Chimichurri, Smoked Salmon, Caper! and so on.....) so I'm hoping Gotham adds some of these flavors to their Chicago locations! read more

This is actually nice as you know exactly when your order is ready and how long it will take. My personal favorite is the honey whole wheat everything bagel with scrambled eggs. We grabbed bagels from Gotham yesterday (after placing an order online--super easy!) and they were SO DELICIOUS. Seriously, some of the best bagels we have ever had. I got an everything with plain cream cheese and my husband got an everything bagel with chive cream cheese, tomato, and cucumber. The bagels were perfectly cooked! Slight crisp on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside. The everything seasoning was also very nicely balanced. We ate our bagels out on the patio in front of the restaurant/ cafe and it was so lovely. We also ended up also taking home a half dozen for future enjoyment and I am currently writing this review while chowing down on a sesame bagel with cream cheese. YUM!
