For months, I kept trying to give the other salon a chance, hoping it would eventually get better. It never did. I left every appointment frustrated, disappointed, and honestly, a little defeated. That's when I realized something important, Heidi and Claire are the only ones who truly understand me, my hair, and exactly what I want. They get it. They get *me*. And that's rare. When I finally decided to go back, I reached out, and they responded right away with so much warmth. They even booked me for a consultation the very next day. I already felt relieved before I even walked through the door. When I arrived, they welcomed me with such kindness that I instantly felt at ease. Even though they were extremely busy that day, they still made time for me and ended up installing a topper, completely unexpected, but they did it anyway because they genuinely care. Claire placed the topper so perfectly, and then Heidi worked her magic in a way only she can. She knows I never want the topper to show and that I want everything to look as natural as possible. She knows my preferences so well that she didn't even need me to explain, she just *knew* what to do. And she did it flawlessly. When they finished, I actually cried a little. Two stars. I went in for a wig install and soft glam makeup. I had a lot of questions for the…read moreowner, Caprice, prior to the appointment. She was super responsive and helpful before our session. The hair and makeup looked amazing as I got out of the chair. I tipped generously for a job well done. I was happy as I left the salon. Everything was all good here. I took off three stars because: 1) Within a day, it was clear the braid-down was too tight. It gave me terrible headaches and an outbreak of tension bumps on my hair line (photo). I was taking Tylenol multiple times a day for a week. 2) I texted to let the owner know I was having issues, and she didn't get back to me at all. When I didn't hear from her, I took the install down myself. It hurt that badly. 3) When I followed up with her again a day or two later, the owner denied that anything was wrong with the install. She blamed my week of headaches and rash of tension bumps on me being "tender-headed". The tone of the message was snarky and defensive. In sum, her fees for the lace wig install are high ($435) and I tipped her well for how good the final look was. Later, when I had an issue with my install as a result of overly tight braids/sew-in and asked for help, she made it seem like it was my fault. That felt terrible. Despite paying over $500 to get my hair done, I was very disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service that was demonstrated in my case. It's not normal to have splitting headaches and rash of tension bumps after a wig install. To be told otherwise is just nonsense. REPLY TO OWNER'S RESPONSE 1) Caprice wasn't going above and beyond to by "allowing me" to come in one day after the wig install for a makeup session. She had an opening on her calendar. I wanted a bridal glam consultation. We discussed it. We booked it. A plain and simple standard service for any client 2) Caprice didn't give me a middle part when I saw her the second day. I had already given myself a middle part. But yes, Caprice helped flatten it to lay down. And yes, Caprice also recurled my hair. 3) When I saw the owner the day after the install for the makeup appointment, I didn't mention headaches because I expected some pain and discomfort immediately after a wig installation. At that time, I was taking Tylenol and waiting for it to fade. What I didn't think was reasonable - was for the pain to continue unabated for 5+ days. I also didn't expect to be ghosted for multiple days after I reached out with my concern. Further, there's photo evidence of tension bumps on my hairline. Those are never supposed to happen. You don't get a tension bumps rash from being "tenderheaded". That's a result of an irritated scalp after overly tight braiding. This is how you get traction alopecia. 4) We didn't try multiple hair styles. We discussed the possibility of seeing multiple looks, but ended up only trialing one: curled hair cascading down the shoulders. 5) The experience wasn't all bad, which is why this review is 2 stars - instead of less. Before the appointment, Caprice spent a significant amount of time answering my questions and consulting with me about the hair and getting the wig bleached and plucked. During the install, we had a nice time chatting. The hair and makeup looked stunning. After the install, she gave me advice via text on what products to use. Throughout all this, she was friendly and very responsive. I tipped her 18-20% on the services, paying over $600 in total for hair and makeup. Though expensive, I considered this a worthwhile investment in my bridal consultation process. I assumed (wrongly) that her premium prices would mean that she would be committed to customer satisfaction as part of her brand. 6) My negative experience began when I complained about the headaches and wig discomfort - Caprice did a complete 180 on me. This was totally unexpected, given the prior interactions. She disappeared from text until I chased her down, and she was defensive and dismissive of my complaint - a complaint that was about being in pain - not that something was wrong with the look itself. I've always said the look was great. This complaint was about hair health. As such, I was hoping for a more sympathetic response, and for her to demonstrate that she cared.
